It's weird how 1 out of every 4 miners sounds like Nazeem

This Skyrim Confession is really old, but every time I rotate an object on the loading screen, I think of this.

Why do so many people hate Lydia?

Aside from that sarcastic comment she makes when you ask her to carry shit, I always find myself loving her tank-y nature as I stealth archer (of course) from afar.

Skyrim removed from Steam library

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 02:29 AM PDT

Hey, I was wondering. Has Skyrim been fully removed from Steam? I remember buying it and playing it on Steam a year or two ago and now it's missing from my library and I searched it on the store and now it's a special edition. Is Skyrim just permanently gone from my Steam library now and I won't get a refund?

Gosh, after over 1k hours on XB360, 1000 on ps4, and 500 on PC, this game still sits at the top of my favorites list because of moments like this

Skyrim main quest shallowness (Spoilers for TES:IV and V)

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 05:44 AM PDT

I've played TES:V since 2011, and I played TES:IV before that, and something struck me today when I was thinking over their main quests.

In TES:IV, the big bad is Dagon, who is narratively kinda boring, as he's the god-demon of destruction, revolution and change, and is inaccessible to the player character. However, the narrative connects the absolutist and nigh-unbeatable Dagon with the player character through Martin Septim and the Mythic Dawn cult led by Camoran. In this way, Dagon has a human face that can serve as a coherent (albeit insane) mouthpiece. With Camoran, the big bad is a lot more accessible, and the quest line is a lot more compelling, featuring all out battles, rescues, espionage and deceit on both sides, as you mainly deal with the Mythic Dawn and the killable Dremora forces until the final push.

In TES:V, the big bad is a similarly inaccessible god-demon, Alduin the World-Eater. From here is where TES:IV narratively succeeds and TES:V fails. The enemy in Skyrim's main quest is the dead - Draugr in the crypts and Dragons in the skies. Apart from the loose-end Thalmor (who add little to the quest) the enemy are relentless, unable to be bargained with or beaten without excessive force. There is no espionage or deception against them.

This is fine until you consider what could have been. Various parts of lore (including 9 all powerful priest masks) point towards there being a history of the Dragon Cult having inhuman powers. I think the main quest should've included the Dragon Cult as a resurgent faction, the priests already called back from the dead by Alduin, whereby the player character infiltrates the cult, deceiving and fighting to collect the priest masks to get Konariik, whose power it is to open a portal to Sovngarde to destroy Alduin.

As there are 9 masks, that's at least 9 varied and awesome mission chains, each which could include sneaking, spying, stealing, fighting, rescuing...all the things that make for a varied experience. It could even include rallying the living against the forces of the dead, presenting a quest to get troops from each hold, rather than one dialogue option for each Jarl asking if they're prepared for a dragon attack.

Instead we got endless Draugr, a very short Thalmor quest, and IMHO a very unfulfilling experience.
