Heroes of the Storm - [Announcement]Special Flair for the very best!

[Announcement]Special Flair for the very best!

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 08:02 PM PDT

Are you a pro Genji? The very best, like no one ever was, like /u/Beg_For_Mercy's Lunara, and want to let people know about it? Well, you've come to the right place.

I'm looking to give a small bit of recognition to the first players who hit level 100 with a specific hero with some special flair. Thought this would be a fun way to commemorate the incredible achievement of the individuals.

If you've hit level 100 with a hero and think you're the first to do so, please post a photo of your level 100+ hero page with your reddit username, like so.

I'd prefer to give the flair to only one person, but if there's no conclusive evidence either way, I'm willing to give it to 2-3 people, or give it to the highest level.

Hopefully this will be a fun little display! ^_^

Let me know if you have any questions/comments/concerns.

EDIT: Also, remember to update your flair! If your flair is currently a blank box, just set your flair again in the sidebar!

EDIT: Here's the list of granted flair:

Mega-bundles should be a permanent thing for new players.

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 12:54 PM PDT

Now that we are into August, I think it would be great if Blizzard brought back the free mega bundles before summer ends for those players who missed out on the opportunity when HotS 2.0 launched.

I personally found that a limited hero pool really limits your enjoyment of the game, as well as your ability to evolve as a player (and obviously you learn more about heroes by playing them...).

The Mega bundle changed all that, and gave me a huge pool to work with, and a ton of heroes to level up for coin to get more heroes.

I know that the free hero pool rotates weekly and that falls inline with their free-to-play model, but in all honestly I think it would much better if the Mega Bundle (or X number of free heroes) was offered to any new players upon account creation. But if Blizz is intent on keeping it as a limited time thing, I know at least 5 people that missed out and would play more if they had a chance to get the mega bundles again.

Obviously, players who already picked a mega bundle earlier would not be allowed to pick another one.

Quick Match will now prefer not to make mirror matches

Blizz added this section after initial release and dont mark it in orange, so many of players (including myself before my friend pointed that to me) can miss this.

Players that accept whispers only from friends shouldn't be able to whisper other players

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 10:36 AM PDT

Even if we ignore obvious toxicity issues, sometimes after match, a player can whisper you a question or just say gg and you are unable to respond (without adding a friend which feels weird in this situation). And said player most likely even forgot that he set this option before and may be wondering why others are ignoring him.

Or even better option if you concern about privacy: if such player initiated a whisper with someone else remove this restriction for target player.

Please scale Garrosh up 10% or so

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 05:48 AM PDT

He just looks so stout and dwarf-like, and with him throwing the entire Heroes cast around it looks comical instead of impressive. Garrosh has always been a giant of an orc and yet he looks smaller than even Gul'dan. His kit works great if he had the size to accompany it.

And yes, I know HotS doesn't scale Heroes accurately, but Garrosh is a frontline warrior and is known as a big lumbering beast and being even marginally larger than he currently is would make him look less silly and more imposing.

EDIT: Here is a visualization provided by you beautiful people down below of what a 10% increased model scale would look like - http://i.imgur.com/DcaqTPv.jpg

I don't know about anyone else, but that's a vast improvement to me. Blizzplz.

My problem with trolls isn't the HL loss, it's the time they have taken from me

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 07:16 PM PDT

Recently I started working a full time summer job before I head back for my final semester of college. My free time has diminished significantly since starting work and now I only get 3-4 games a day (maybe). I've learned to cherish the free time I have and what I choose to do with it. My desire to play this game really shows how much I love it.

Now to my point. I know people are having problems with trolls in HL. I read about it almost daily in this sub. I've just had 2 games in a row with a troll and the losses hurt (both times we were ahead which made the trolling worse). BUT instead of raging I had a different response. I was disappointed. These trolls wasted about an hour of my free time and I wasn't mad, just extremely disappointed.

I can take a loss. They happen often. But my time is precious to me and my love for the game may not be able to outlive these players. I hope this strikes a chord with some of you and helps pin point the struggles that some of us face.

When can we get another Tauren?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 07:24 AM PDT

We have ETC and I was watching some video about Garrosh, then I saw Tauren and wondered "When are we going to get another Tauren, because we already have a lot of Orc. We need to add 1 On the Bloodhoofs or other Totem fighting humanbulls to the game to smash and rock their way to victory. Like check out this wikki art that I found http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Baine_Bloodhoof - How legit is that!?!?! I think they should be on that list with Deathwing, Kel'thuzad and Reinhardt.

What other Tauren should be in the game?

bilibili.com, a Chinese video website recently started an event inspired by /r/place. It has concluded just now It seems still going on and this is the current canvas: http://imgur.com/a/avoV2

The Heroes of the Storm logo in Chinese is on the top right.

BTW, maintaining the 2 characters at the center is one of the requirements of this event.

I can ping my Abilities Cooldowns - can we get the ability to ping our Fountain Cooldown aswell ?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 10:38 AM PDT

Its just a small thing but sometimes it can be important if an ally can use the fountain or not - Also let us ping the right amount of stacks for stuff Like Bribe - i hate it that it only shows " you have 1 charge of bribe " which means it can be 20-39 stacks of bribe. I think allies should be able to see the right amount of stacks + how many bribe stacks you have exactly something like

1 Bribe stack ( 25/80 ) instead of only 1 Bribe stack

Captain’s Scouting Report: Clash in Kiev

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 09:00 AM PDT

Most ridiculous and absurd thing that I have seen so far in Hero League, and little suggestion.

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 10:51 AM PDT

It looked like another one sided hero league games. Tomb of the spider queen, one team was overextending and feeding whole match, second obj for my team, and we were doing core attempt with 3 lvl lead. Our Leoric pinged enemy xul on toplane and went to kill him, while my team stayed on mid and igored him. He failed to do so, and he said that he don't want to play with noobs and make us win so he is going afk.

And he literaly went afk under enemy core and died like 9 times, because we were boldly trying to win 4v5 so he had time to do so( we almost won btw). But game was eventually lost. Just WTF?! Why would anybody do something like this? I used to play with peaple who tilt when they are loosing, but this was first time when somebody decide to threw one of easiest possible wins.

I was tilted a bit so i quit looby forgetting to report him. I looked in lobby for a list of people who played recently with you, then on website for an option to send a report with replay for guy who needs some special treatment from Blizz and didn't found one.

Can we get possibility to still report somebody after leaving post-match lobby, some list of "players from your last game" or sth. Because I actually forget to report people quite often.

Or this option exist but I didn't notice it?

P.S It happened at plat 3 lvl.

[Fan Art] Greymane worgen emoticon

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 09:56 AM PDT

I drew a worgen emoticon for Greymane.
All emoticons for comparison.
Artanis, Chromie and Illidan have different forms in their angry emoticons(purifier, dragon and demon form) yet in Greymane's he is in human form, he should've been in worgen form imo.
Enjoy!

TIL: You can drag the 1-9 skills around

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 11:30 AM PDT

Not sure if it's well known, but just a few days ago I found out you can change the order of skills you get from talents etc. Especially useful if you get passiv skills before active ones. Thought I can as well share it here, as I never thought about even trying it.

Outdated hero qutoes and greetings

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 04:57 AM PDT

With release of Garrosh we have another not-so-much problem revealed - there is no new qutoes for older heroes toward the newcomers. Jaina really have nothing to say to Garrosh? No hello for Stukov from Zagara or Sarah? I just wonder, if there any plans about updating quotes someday?

Communication is key, the guide to pinging correctly.

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 06:16 AM PDT

Until voice chat will finally make its way into the game the only true quick communication method we have is pings and it's incredibly important to know how to ping correctly especially when dealing with teams that.. well... need some assistance.

Why Ping?

Pinging is the only method of fast communication we have and we must learn to use them to express the situation properly. Typing is never a good thing to do in the middle of the action, and even where there is no action there is always something better to do than to type. Keep typing to a minimum.

Assist Ping

The Assist Ping (Yellow color, pull down on the ping wheel) is the primary tool you have to express what it is you think the team should be doing next. See that word "next"? The Assist Ping is not useful when expressing what your team should be doing now. You must Assist Ping prematurely, not when it's too late.

The Assist Ping is most useful when you and your team are mid travel, and not currently already at their chosen destination doing their chosen objective. If you just killed an enemy in bot lane, and everyone is mounting up and going to do their own thing, now is the ideal time to Assist Ping this mercenary camp that you think your team should do. If you ping after the team already got to their chosen lane and dismounted and started doing whatever it is they are doing, your Assist Ping is now much less effective.

Assist pings should not be used when you wish to gank an enemy hero in a lane or when an objective spawns and you want your team to go and get it. The reasons why will be listed under the On My Way Ping category.

Danger Ping

The Danger Ping (Orange Color, pull up on the ping wheel) is the best tool you have to prevent your allies from getting ganked but it will only work if you know how to use it correctly. If your specialist is solo pushing a lane while an objective is in another lane and you noticed an enemy is moving down to gank your specialist, the common reaction would be to spam Danger or Retreat pings on your specialist when in fact instead you should ping a single Danger Ping on the border of the fog of war where you suspect an enemy will arrive to gank your ally.

Example

Pinging this way will divert your ally's attention to the areas in which he can be cornered from and will put him in a mindset that someone will soon arrive from that fog of war. If you were to ping on the ally itself with a Danger or Retreat ping it would imply that you think that ally is in danger or that you think the ally should leave that lane entirely. If you ping on the fog of war as seen in the example, it expresses more of a fact of danger, rather than an opinion of danger.

Another very important use of the Danger ping is to alert your allies that you spotted the location of an enemy stealth hero. In this situation it is usually okay to spam this particular ping on areas where you see the stealthed enemy. Important: Do NOT use Retreat pings to alert your allies of stealthed enemies, only Danger pings!

On My Way Ping

The On My Way Ping (Green color with a directional arrow, pull right on the ping wheel) is the best way to create playmaking in your team. It will provide your allies with the minimap information that they might not be able to notice themselves.

If an ally is 1v1 in a lane and he is pushed behind his walls, you may ping on my way to tell your ally that he will soon have backup, and he can try and bait out the enemy to over extend. If an enemy team is pushing up against your forts and then starts to retreat you can use the On My Way ping on the retreating team to let your team know that you are ready to chase and have the cooldowns needed for it. If an objective spawns and you ping On My Way to a specific lane you let your team know that you are staying to soak. Alternatively, you can ping On My Way on the spawning objective to let your team know that there is reason to go there as the team will be there.

When pinging On My Way try to do it in a place where you think the ally that you want to see the ping, will actually see it. If the ally is in lane, try to do it in the middle of the lane, on a clear ground that is not covered by minions, so that he can see who is coming to help him and from what direction. Also do it in what you think is the center of his screen. Try to quite literally shove the On My Way ping in your ally's face (not in-game hero face, but the player's center of screen).

Defend Ping

The Defend Ping (Purple color, pull left in the ping wheel) is one of the most blaring pings in terms of sound, and is likely to always snap your allies out of tunnel vision with it's abrupt noise. The Defend ping can be used when you wish to call more allies to your lane from a different lane when you feel that you are starting to lose that lane. Just as with the Assist ping, do not just do a Defend ping when what you want to defend is already being attacked, do it as prematurely as you can.

The Defend ping can very much be used as a rally ping for your team. Want to group up at boss? Defend ping it. Want to group up at your base to defend it? Defend ping it. Want to group up and go to the mines to collect skulls? Defend ping it. It is very much used as a "we need to work together on this location ping".

Retreat Ping

The Retreat Ping (White color, defaults to V on your keyboard) is the most important ping to use correctly and to acknowledge correctly to win the game. Every Retreat ping must be taken very seriously and if you spot an ally that is abusing it and using it not seriously I highly recommend you mute his pings.

Retreat pings can mean many things and you must never immediately shrug them off and think "why retreat? we got this". An ally support might ping Retreat when he runs out of mana, an ally Tank might ping retreat when his active abilities are used up. Any ally might use it when their ult is not ready or when they generally spot a glaring disadvantage. Retreat pings can be used when fights that are only beneficial to the enemy team occur and there is nothing to gain from them except risk.

It is crucial to not spam this ping as it will devalue it completely for the rest of the match, and the power of the retreat pings will simply win you games you might otherwise lose.

Additional uses for the Retreat ping in the early game is to ping it once on yourself when you are hearthstoning back to base for health/mana. Also in a 2 lane map such as Braxis, if you are 4v4 in the bot lane and you are choosing to move to the top lane, you should ping On My Way to the top lane and a single Retreat ping on yourself as well. Your team needs to be notified that they are now going to be 3v4.

Voiced Ping

The Voiced Ping (No color, middle of the ping wheel) Is when you ping on a specific objective that will trigger a voice line from your hero. This can be used when you believe a team might be diluted to the sound of pings and are repeatedly ignoring them. Pinging a Voice ping on a mercenary camp will create a voice line such as "We should capture this mercenary camp" or pinging an enemy hero can imply that you wish to gank him. You may ping on an enemy fort that you wish to destroy. The Voice Ping carries less weight than the rest of the pings but it can sometimes stand out when no one seems focused and will snap people back to reality amidst the chaos.

Please learn to ping correctly.

Sincerely, the Kael'Thas that died to the approaching Zeratul because my ally pinged Retreat instead of Danger.

Thank you.

Hearthstone Deathknight Skins?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 07:29 AM PDT

In Hearthstone's upcoming expansion "Knights of the Frozen Throne", each of the game's heroes are re-envisioned in death knight form. I, for one, would love to see these corrupted heroes (and Gul'Dan, because this is really just a side-grade for him) as skins in Heroes of the Storm.

Deathstalker Rexxar has a focus on stitched together "Zombeasts". Maybe he comes with Bearshark Misha? Sharkbear?

Why is Uther considered to be the best support in the game?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 06:30 AM PDT

I've been hearing, both here and in game, that Uther is an extremely good healer, and that, even after recent nerfs, he's still the best support in the game. Personally, as an unrefined Quick Match scrub with no competitive pedigree whatsoever, I can't seem to grasp what makes him such a great character. Whenever I play him, I spam some good heals, quickly run out of mana, and embark on the epic quest to either the well or the spawn, because I can't seem to figure out a sustainable way of casting his spells. I also haven't played with or against any Uther who would blow my mind in Quick Match, hence my total lack of understanding.

So, here's my question to you experienced, hero and team league folks: what exactly makes Uther so great a support?
