Posted: 04 Aug 2017 05:54 PM PDT I'm sure I'm not the only one that was really disappointed not to see any info about build templates once again with the PoF announcement. Why is this such a big deal? Well, first of all it's a convenience thing for most of us, but now with the release of second elite specializations, flexibility is being promoted to us. Let's take for example a Ranger. On some content you may want to be Condi Ranger, Magi Druid, Condi Druid, and let's say 1 or 2 Soulbeast build variants. Right now you have to remember every build first of all, that means gear, skills and traits. It can take 1-2 minutes every time you want to switch builds and if you're doing it in a hurry there's a good chance you'll mess up. Maybe you'll forget to swap a piece of gear or a trait, maybe you'll forget to change the stats on your legendaries, etc. Besides having to do all that, it also sucks for your group if they have to wait for you to swap to a different build for different encounters. This tedious process makes switching builds a pain and a lot of people will just stick to 1 build most of the time because of it. Isn't that the opposite of the direction ArenaNET are taking their game? Having one character have tons of options instead of being locked into 1 role? With build templates, all you would have to do is click 1 button. Boom, there you go. All your gear is swapped properly, your traits and skills are ready to go right away, and it took you a single click. What a difference. Now you only need to do the annoying process once and save the build and every time you want to mess around with that spec it will be quick and painless. If you want to quickly swap in group content (out of combat obviously) to optimize different encounters, no one will have to wait for you now. I'm honestly not sure why ArenaNET have never even talked about implementing build templates... They want to promote flexible professions but give us a system that discourages that very aspect of their game. [link] [comments]

The best thing in the upcoming expansion Posted: 04 Aug 2017 08:44 AM PDT I was the last one. All my friends stopped playing this game. After some time I had to accept that this game has run its course and we will never play together again. After the announcement of the new expansion my friends got hyped and reinstalled the game. They want to play together again! I don't care how amazing the new elite specs are, or how beautiful and engaging the new maps will be, the best feature of this expansion is having my friends in Tyria again, and quite a lot of adventures ahead of us! I also got an urge to complete my first legendary, and I shall have Nevermore by September. Are your friends returning to the game as well? [link] [comments]
Request: Please let me gift Living World episodes to friends! Now more than ever! Posted: 04 Aug 2017 12:14 PM PDT With the upcoming Path of Fire, those of us who held out for Guild Wars 2... those of us whose friends mostly left the game, leaving much of our time in the game soloing... well, PoF is bringing back a lot of friends! It's really amazing how ArenaNet designed the game too, that Heart of Thorns isn't necessarily "required reading" for them to join alongside me. As someone who never left, I got all the Living World episodes for free. But I'd like to use gems to gift those episodes to friends. One friend in particular loves gryphons AND owls and I want to show them the non-hostile owl gryphons from Bitterfrost Frontier. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that in many ways, Season 3 of LW was almost an expansion onto itself. I got more play out of it than I did actual expansions in some MMOs. I want my friends to be able to easily see that too without having to commit. [link] [comments]

(spoiler) Soulbeast in a... ಠ_ಠPosted: 04 Aug 2017 03:50 AM PDT
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 11:51 AM PDT In the past 10 days, we saw many new updates to the game and plenty of announcements of more updates in the next couple of weeks. Last week, episode 6 went live, we saw 2 new legendary weapons introduced , which appeal to many players in game and also a new legendary trinket, that appeal to every player regardless of main class choice. These introductions created alot of demand for some materials needed to craft them, most notably mithril and elder wood. This week, PoF was announced, and plenty of new and returning players are starting to log in, wondering how and which gear to get. With a balance patch announced for next tuesday that also includes major changes to food and nourishment balance, I expect plenty of players to acquire new builds and gear in the coming weeks, especially because ascended armor acquired via grandmaster tokens and the pvp/wvw vendors will also get a big QoL buff too. So I thought it might be a good idea again to have a look at current crafting costs, as plenty of common and ascended materials have seen some wide value swings in both directions lately and will probably continue to do so in the coming weeks due to the announced changes. In order for players to find the best method for them personally, I will provide some general tips and guidelines so you can determine yourself, which acquisition method is the best for you because it depends on several factors:
Grandmaster Mark System or Traditional CraftingThis is probably the most asked question and the hardest to answer because it depends on the factors mentioned above and as I expect mayor price swings in the needed base materials in the coming weeks, the correct answer can vary. So I think its best to first tell you, how to determine yourself, which acquisition method is cheaper in terms of materials. Comparing material requirementsIn order to determine the differences in material costs between these two methods, I use 2 3rd party apps that many players are probably familiar with, gw2efficiency and gw2bltc. Usually I use gw2bltc to calculate the material costs for the grandmaster marks and gw2efficiency for traditional crafting. Personally, I find the overview of the shopping list on gw2bltc easier to read and customize because its way more compact than the one from gw2efficiency, which is hard to display in one screen and you will be scrolling up and down alot. The big bonus of the gw2efficiency crafting calculator is that you can add several different items to your crafting list and display a shopping list for all of them, which isnt possible with gw2bltc.com ** Grandmaster Marks/GW2BLTC** To calculate the material costs for Grandmaster Marks with gw2bltc, simply click on the mark you need for the ascended gear you want (Weaponsmith mark for a greatsword, leatherworker mark for medium armor), which will bring up the Acquisition Tab that gives you several customization options:
If you click on the shopping list to expand it, you already see, which materials you need and how much they will cost you. In the top left corner you can customize the amount of grandmaster marks you want to craft. Depending on the gear you want, this value might change. But in general, a full set of armor costs 20 grandmaster marks (4 marks for chests and legs, 3 marks for the other 4 armor pieces) and 13g (plus other untradeable currencies/mats, which i will cover later), a weapon costs 3 marks and 5g plus other mats and currencies. So set the value at the right amount for whatever you need. While the price on top will still show the price for only 1 mark, at the bottom of the shopping list, you will find the total amount of gold needed for the marks you want to craft. If you are unsure about the amount you need or want additional info on the grandmaster marks or vendors, simply click on the "W" link right to the mark name in the acquisition window to open the corresponding wiki page. At the time of writing, 20 grandmaster leatherworker marks for a full set of medium ascended armor cost you 311g for the tradeable mats on buy order, plus 13g of vendor fees and other account bound or tradeable currencies and items. Traditional Crafting/GW2EFFICIENCY Most players will be interested in comparing costs for a full set of armor, as most players can cover their demand for ascended weapons via other sources, like elite specialisation collections , Reforging Caladbolg etc. You also need 6 pieces of armor per build but only 2-4 weapons, so demand is lower. While comparing mat requirements for single gear items can be done with gw2bltc without hassle, I prefer gw2efficiency for comparing them for a group of items because you can add different items to the shopping list (6 different armor pieces of the same weight and stat). To do so, open the gw2efficiency Crafting Calculator for ascended gear. Now you need to know the prefix of the stat combo in ascended version. Again, the corresponding wiki page for ascended armor is a great ressource to find out the exact names of the 6 armor pieces you need. On the left you see the prefix names for each stat combo and on the right you see the 18 names of the individual armor pieces of all three weights. If you want to know, how much a medium set with Berserker stats costs with traditional crafting, simply type in zojja (for zerker stat prefix) and the selection below it will adjust accordingly to just show ascended gear with zerker stats. Click on one of the medium armor pieces and you will be directed to the crafting tree and shopping list of that armor piece. This screen will also give you several customisation options:
If you done everything I asked, you will end up with a screen like this, showing you the 6 ascended items, their recipe tree which is customizable the same way as on gw2bltc.com, the shopping list and crafting steps. Another downside of gw2efficiency i just discovered is that the shopping list isnt sorted by value like it is at gw2bltc, so its it takes some more time to find out, which materials you should focus farm or buy. But you can export the shopping list to excel, which is a nice feature for veterans or traders that would like to utilize the functionality of excel to sort stuff for them. Anyways, it seems like at medium set of ascended zerker armor currently costs 385g with the same preferences set as the grandmaster leatherworker marks, so grandmaster marks are a bit cheaper. This concludes my guide on determining which mayor acquisition method (grandmaster marks/traditional ascended crafting) is the cheapest in terms of material costs. Up to this point, this guide isnt influenced by current market values and as a general rule of thump you can say that the grandmaster mark system is cheaper but it might not be the best option for everybody. Other acquisition methodsAscended Armor pieces and weapons can be acquired via different faucets than traditional crafting and the grandmaster mark system, the main other faucets are achievements/collections you can work towards and are usually limited per account (or character?) and rng drops in different game modes, like rank up chests in wvw, fractal reward containers, tequatl chests or precursors from raids. As a trader, I dont know too much about those methods as I hardly play pve and already got all the ascended gear i need several years ago. But I could imagine that this method would be preferred by plenty of new or returning players that prefer to play open world pve. If thats the case, I would advice you to check the wiki for acquisition methods of ascended armor and weapons in the Achievements (1.1) and Looting (1.3.) category. In the past couple of weeks I have seen some great public ressources popping up on reddit about all the different ascended gear that got introduced with the last LS season and can be acquired through open world pve, so if you have any links, please post them in the comments and I will add them to the OP. Editors Note I initially wanted to provide some more in depth information about specific game-economic meta changes that have been going on in the last two weeks and possibly might severely influence the best choice of acquisition method but this OP is getting rather long, so I will just provide bullet points from now on just to get a structure for the post, as I might use it as a ressource later on. I guess I will update the OP over the weekend to add more details to the bullet points. Feel free to post feedback. Future topics:

Anet you want us to spread the word but we still don't have a "Refer a Friend" system. Posted: 03 Aug 2017 09:06 PM PDT The last couple of days every content creator is spreading their referral links for the expansion and it reminded me that we don't have a system that rewards normal players for spreading the word about the game. How is that helping the game grow? I think people would be a lot more active and talking about the game if we had a system like that. It could have rewards like weapon skins, glider skins, mount skins or even gems. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 06:27 AM PDT There is a major customer service issue that needs to be addressed. I want to be clear that this is absolutely NOT about bashing ANet, nor about reaching customer service another way. This is a problem people need to be aware of, that needs to be discussed, and that should be addressed. If you get robbed or your credit card, paypal, or other payment provider gets hacked, you report that for your own protection and security. The issue that then happens is that the response of these companies is to perform chargebacks on all purchases in the compromised timeframe. This is where the problem comes in. Current ANet policy is that if ANY chargeback occurs, for ANY REASON on your account, even a legitimate one such as this, your account in permbanned, without the ability to appeal. If you buy gems, an expansion, or anything from ANet and it happens to get caught in the clean up from an identity breach, you lose everything. All your hard work, your characters, your currency, your legendaries, all of, gone. Note that when I say "without the ability to appeal", that means you can have proof of what happened, you can offer to re-pay the transaction, and you can even offer to pay any fees ANet suffered for the chargeback, and still you will not be given back your account. This is unfair and excessive. You should not lose your account because of something beyond your control. The victim of a crime should not be punished further for taking the appropriate action to address this crime. ANet can and should ban people who are committing fraud themselves, but they should not harm the victims of fraud. There needs to be a policy in place for restoring accounts to people in this type of situation. I am not affected by this policy at this time, but I know people who are, and anyone could be in this boat in the future. Everyone should be aware of this risk, and act appropriately, by taking steps with your bank or payment provider to prevent damaging chargebacks. Most places will allow you some method of specifying charges that are correct so they won't be chargebacked. There shouldn't be any consequence to protecting your account, so a lot of people don't take advantage of this because they think consumer protection has them covered. This should act as a warning to take advantage of these services, since there can be added consequences. EDIT: I want to emphasize again that a big reason I posted this is to raise awareness. Just in the first few comments we have people who think you can escalate to get it fixed or that using paypal makes you immune. Neither of these is correct based on information available to me. Paypal does chargebacks just like any other service if you report a breach. [link] [comments]

Remember: Beta lets you make new, temporary characters for basically free! Posted: 04 Aug 2017 09:07 AM PDT What I'm saying is, back in the beta of HoT, beta characters had basically a copy of the original account of them, meaning they had all the transmutation charges, stuff in the bank, etc, all without effecting the main account. With this in mind, you can try out fashion-wars for free basically! During the HoT beta, I recreated Po from Kung-fu Panda as a Daredevil, and Saxton Hale from Team Fortress 2 as a Berserker. Go crazy, re-make famous characters as beta characters and share them with others! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2017 09:48 AM PDT As I was interested about how big the new maps could really be I made a simple map size comparison against core Tyria, Heart of Thorns and an average of Living World season 3. These are all rough estimates by using the world map and comparing bounding boxes, so these are not precision values, but by using the segments of the map shown in the announcement event you can deduce how large the first map will be, then compare it against the ones we currently have. This only takes into map boundaries though so there maybe some wiggle room as there was with HoT maps and their verticality. Here is a 1920x1920 full map version to give some context.
