Diablo - Since Necro. fixes aren't happening, how about an easy one? Remove reflect damage from Shield pylon.

Since Necro. fixes aren't happening, how about an easy one? Remove reflect damage from Shield pylon.

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 10:28 AM PDT

In the current state of the game, the most dangerous enemy you're fighting in high GR is not the rift guardian or its minions, it's LAG.

We all know where the lag comes from by now, but for those who don't know: Lag in Diablo 3 (in high density environments) comes from the many sources of DoT and damage going on in the rift.

In other words, lots big numbers make big, big lag.

The lag is so bad that Shield pylon is an issue in high density GRs. It's almost not worth taking a Shield pylon because your game will lock out and by the time the server catches up (if it does), your party will have already wiped.

Shield pylon should ONLY make you immune to damage. Please REMOVE the reflect damage from Shield pylon. The damage is so insignificant. I would understand if it actually did anything.., but all it does is cause lag. It doesn't kill anything.

Here you can see a popular EU streamer's game get completely locked up due to: HIGH DENSITY + SHIELD PYLON. Before anyone comments saying "He probably has a bad PC," this is not the case. Lag in Diablo 3 doesn't care about your PC specs.

There are many more examples of this and I'm sure most of you have probably noticed it at some point in your D3 careers.

TL;DR: Remove reflect damage from Shield pylon to make it viable to take in high density environments in GRs.

I completed GR70 for the first time ever (in time)

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 04:02 PM PDT

I'm a pretty casual player, I've got a kid and work full time. I decided to go DH this time around as I'd never really played it before. I almost exclusively play solo too.

I love the UE set, I was MS for ages (I have a near perfect Yangs) then tried out grenades and finally pushed to 70 on it. Only my belt and bracer are ancient and I'm not even P500.

I was convinced I was going to fail after my 4th death but kept going. If vengeance was off CD I was getting hit to 50% health from trash mobs. I was hoping for any RG apart from Agnidox...guess who I got?

I downed him with 3 seconds remaining. Still can't believe it.

EDIT: thanks for all the support, for those of you still trying I believe in you. It CAN be done.

Temple of the Firstborn influence

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 08:07 AM PDT

I was playing through Temple of the Firstborn last night for the first time with my wife, and commented to her that I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bloodborne had been a big influence on it.

We walk into the next room and encounter a demon literally called "The Blood-Born" (Axabra, in the Ascension Ritual event).

Nicely done Blizzard!

Anybody know what sword the Diablo 1 Falchion is based off of?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 07:00 PM PDT

When you compare the Diablo 1 Falchion to the Diablo 2 Falchion, it's quite the different weapon... Plus, real Falchions look much closer to Diablo 2 Falchions.

I looked up some curved swords and couldn't find any that fit. Anybody here know?

Some thoughts on what Blizzard could do to help improve the community perceptions of this game

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 06:31 AM PDT

Warning: This is a wall of text. This is my wall. The TL;DR is this--if we as a community knew more about the diablo 3 team and some of the decision processes at Blizzard, it would help us understand why decisions that look odd to us made sense to Blizzard.

Okay with that out of the way, the other day I posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/6qwnwd/thanks_for_nerfing_upper_realm_goblin_run_it_was/dl29ja2/

I'm reposting this separately for visibility and to help explain my thoughts.

If you browse this subreddit, you see a lot of posts that are concerned with the state of the game, why various classes feel ignored, why some things get fixed and others are seemingly not, and often the idea that Blizzard is 'anti-fun'.

Personally I suspect that the last one is just flat wrong, but arises due to differing ideas of what is actually fun.

Overall, I think most of the perception issues that arise from the community are due to what I said in my link--the feeling that the game is being starved for resources, and seen in that lens, it makes sense.

What follows is what I'd like to say to Travis Day and Blizzard leadership in general about Diablo 3 if I were able to sit down and have a frank conversation.

First, I love this game. It's great. I've put in a LOT of time on it. I'm pretty casual, mind, and will never break top 1k. Why? Because of a whole host of reasons. But I love the game. Everything I say here is said from the perspective of love.

But it really feels like the dev team and the players are like a town where the citizens (players) feel like we are in the middle of a water shortage, and the town council (the devs) keep doing strange things. As citizens players keep asking for water to grow crops and things like that, but then the council builds a new community swimming pool, and we're all wondering why. This is a resource scarcity model. As I said in my post, "Nobody wanted the pool, and that's now water that could have been used for something actually beneficial to the community that's being wasted."

This was in reference to the nerfed goblin spawn rate in Upper Realm of Fate, but could have just as easily referred to the proc rate changes for Inarius that essentially killed the bone-storm w/Mirinae build. It's still a strong build, mind you, but we as town citizens are wondering why we are getting new swimming pools when there's a shortage of water--that shortage of water being developer time.

See right now the perception is (right or wrong) that developer time and numbers for Diablo 3 specifically are very limited. Is it? I don't know. But that's the problem. See I suspect that while the community believe there is a drought and are therefore understandably upset that the devs are building swimming pools, the devs themselves have different picture of what the water situation is.

So that comes down a communications issue, and I think i have some ideas on how to help with that:

  • Let us know how many people are actually on the team. Right now many are guessing it's 3 interns, Travis Day, and a couple of devs borrowed from WoW that used to be on the Diablo team but got 'stolen' for Legion. In this instance it's like the community thinks there is a water shortage, but only the town council really knows for sure and they won't tell us.
  • Publicly list bugs, their status (acknowledged, reviewed, confirmed, in progress, testing fix, fixed), an estimate of effort needed to correct, a severity rarity (mild, moderate, severe, critical), and a frequency rating (rare, moderate common, very common, ubiquitous). By using a weighting method, you then come up with a priority system that is used to determine what's worked on next, even to the point of severe/critical bugs that are only moderately common taking priority over less sever but more common bugs. By making this public (even if exploits bug reports have to be given a vague descriptor to avoid promoting abuse), it alleviates community concerns about developer silence.
  • Post patch notes & information about why things are being changed more publicly. Why did they feel that reducing the spawn rate was both needed and worth prioritizing over something like re-buffing Inarius post mirinae 'fix' (among other bugs).
  • Openly discuss future plans and philosophies. By stating and publicly tracking design goals and plans, they again alleviate concerns of abandonment and disinterest (assuming that that isn't what's actually happening). Again this is like the drought where the town council holds a town meeting (reddit/bnet fora), but the council never shows up and rumors start going around that half of them have retired or gone on vacation, and worse, they won't tell anyone why they build a swimming pool. Three weeks later they release vague plans about a possible waterslide being installed, but won't say why. Then two months later they build a new courthouse with no announcements. Essentially what it comes down to is that for the most part the community often feels like we have NO IDEA what the team is planning or why. If they could open about plans--or even about a situation in which they are just waiting to see what happens--then a lot of the community problems would be alleviated.

These aren't everything that could be done. These aren't even all necessary in my best guess.

Again, I love this game. I think that, overall, it's a well-polished and good game. But when we see hotfixes for things that no one in the community is complaining about as an actual problem shortly after the issues with the frailty exploit and people are still upset about how that impacts the Era leaderboards PERMANENTLY, it makes us wonder what's happening.

We need--both players and Blizzard--to talk to each other better. More openly, with greater trust. We need this.

I get that plans change. I also get that online communities and players bases are fickle. We tend to hang on every idle statement as an ironclad promise.

And get upset when it's not delivered in 36 hours.

But that would actually be ameliorated by communicating more, not less. Jeff Kaplan is on the official Overwatch forums frequently. Other senior Overwatch folks are on reddit quite often. We don't see blue posts here much more than once a month, if that.

A bit more in July, but not a lot. All of which affords a mindset of resource scarcity. And starvation mindsets aren't healthy. It leads to anger, distrust, and lashing out, and eventually moving on.

By all means Blizzard, /u/TravisDay, and the rest of the Diablo 3 team, keep building swimming pools. People like to swim and have fun. That's not the problem. The problem is that the town folks believe there's a drought on and we'd like to have the crops watered, the bugs squashed and so on. So tell us. Is there a drought? Are we starving for dev time as much as people think?

Thanks for reading, if you've made this far, you deserve a cookie.

Please for those responding--I am hoping to engage in CONSTRUCTIVE dialogue here, NOT bash Blizzard. There are plenty of threads and places for that. What I'd like is to see if we can't make some progress on understanding what's happening.

Public Bounties Etiquette

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 11:21 AM PDT

When doing public bounties, are we expected to each do a separate act, or is it ok to do bounties from any act as long as you do your fair share? I've always been doing the latter, but stopped playing for a year, and then just got kicked from a game for "stealing someone's bounty", when there are more bounties to do anyway.

New to the game, been picking random stuff to train my people (blacksmith, jeweler, etc.). I just realized, should I be paying more attention as to what I'm picking?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 01:23 PM PDT

I have a seasonal hero and have been trying to level everyone up to level 10 so for my blacksmith for example, I've just been picking random stuff to train him in, should I have been paying more attention to what I was picking? Have I screwed myself over?

Second question, what SHOULD I be paying attention to? Since I'm new to the game I'm not sure what decisions will come back to haunt me if I'm not careful. I've just been casually playing and not paying much attention thus far.

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 04:15 PM PDT

haven't played Diablo in a while and need help from all of you experts. SO I have rolled a necro and played the campaign on Expert, as well as hard core. But after looking at some forums, people are saying that seasonal gear is the best for the necro. In terms of pet strength.

So my question is, can I restart when I finish the campaign and play seasonal? I dont want to have to re roll and get ALLL the way back up to lvl 70...

Diablo 3 Hero Tracker App (Android)

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 01:47 AM PDT

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd post a project I've been working on here in an attempt to get feedback so I can improve the application.

I've recently released a Diablo 3 Hero tracking application on the Play Store, that allows you to search for your Battletag (PC only) and view all of your Heros base statistics and items. Although there are apps like this on the store already, I've tried to make it a bit different by giving it a minimalistic feel.

I've also created a GitHub repository to track any issues/suggestions you may have for the app so I can address them. I'm still going to be actively working on this application, so don't worry, your suggestions and issues wont be ignored!

It would be great if I could get some feedback/reviews, I hope you all enjoy the app. Be nice, it is release V1.1 after all!

Links: Play Store or search for 'D3 Hero Tracker' (This was causing a few problems earlier), GitHub Issue Tracking

Edit: Just a quick note, i noticed a pretty small flaw with the hero picture lookup. This has been fixed and the new APK is being uploaded currently. V1.1.1

Elemental weapon damage & elemental buffs

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 08:12 AM PDT

I am currently building out my WW barb in seasons and I have a question regarding elemental damage. I am using the WW rune that changes the damage to lightning and generates fury, and I also have an amulet that boosts lightning damage by 20%, which I know makes my WW hit harder.

My question is as follows: Does this 20% lightning damage boost also affect my weapon if its 1000-1400 lightning damage on there? I'm asking because I am currently working on a Little Rogue/Slanderer combo and I wan't to make sure I get lightning damage on there (over holy, arcane, etc) if this is how it works. Thanks!

WD T13 farming?

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 03:59 PM PDT

Im still trying to figure out which build is the best to farm T13 kinda efficient. Jade seems to work but isnt fast. Helltooth/Gargutan is meh. (DMG okayish but can only handle elites so Rift takes a while, also struggles with gobo Rifts). Cant try out SB build either since i dont have all the items i need. I also checked D-fans but they all suggest Helltooth so i dunno what to do now

Where do I go after my Multishot build? [xpost from /r/diablo3]

Posted: 04 Aug 2017 03:52 PM PDT

Fair warning: This is the first time I've ever taken late game seriously.Okay sooooo

I finished the armor set, got an ancient Yang's bow and a few other pieces to it.

That being said, now at 400 paragon, I find myself grouping way more often, and according to what people have said, it's not the greatest group build out there.

So what is? I had a full Natalya's set but got rid of it just because.. Well it's not even a tier on icy-veins. As for the other sets, I have a few pieces of shadow, and a few maraurders. I just don't know where to go for the rest. Should I be spamming grifts until I get the set?

And if I get a full set of Shadow, do I make the jump over even if it has a lower dps? I have no idea how set swapping works, up until now I've taken what is in the best interest of multishot, and basic stats.

Thanks for any advice.
