Originally wasnt going to put this on reddit but figured since this might have an impact on our scene and relations with top players in melee id post my inbox convo with Armada. Figured I would reach out to Armada due to him being one of the players I have a lot of respect for. I hit him up on the video I saw could be damaging to the scene. The message I sent him is as follows-

Curious if your open for a lil back and forth discussion on this video. If not I wanted to just kinda give my personal perspective as a player focused on pm.

Im currrently Ranked 25th in the world in PM and 3rd on Socals Local PR - "Venom" Falcon main.

Just a little background of myself. I started Playing competitive melee in 2010. Im a Falcon main. Friends of westballz / s2j / lucky / fiction and most of the socal players in melee and it was my home for smash from 2010-2013 until I decided to give PM a chance.

Since 2013 its been my game of preference due to lot of the friends in the community as well as a more extensive roster.

Its pretty disheartening to hear some of the opinions that feel super outdated or misinformed.

0 Top level pm players consider themselves better than their melee "counterparts". TBH its not even a thing thats brought up or discussed in any circle of top level players ive been in.

We view them as two seperate games and dont even give it much thought.

Melee players practice their game. PM players practice theirs. Results should follow where you put your hard work and dedication into.

I think the issue stems a lot from the melee players in 2013-2014 coming in for "free money" due to the lack of development of the pm meta and the fact it was a new game.

After years of the games progression and top players focusing on pm ,melee players can no longer do this. Lucky sometimes to locals and doesnt place top 8 due to lack of interest and efforts in the game. I think the only statement any PM players at top level ever state now is that if you want to do well in PM you have to put in the time to learn the game and MUs. You cannot just show up and win without owning the game anymore.

Vast majority of pm players have huge respect for the strides you guys have made in your own game. A good portion of us watch most melee events and love the game just dont have the resources or time to invest into both pm and melee. Im personally a huge fan of yours and super invested in seeing the progression of melee as much as any melee dedicated fan.

Simply put I feel the video is going to hurt the scene ive called my home for 4 years. With 16k views thats a lot of players that can be discouraged in our scene or turn away players that could potentially give our game a shot.

I haven't been following the scene for very long, and like a lot of people, much of my knowledge of the pre-Brawl days comes from the documentary. It's a great primer on competitive Melee, but I wonder what it may not have gotten entirely accurate (I know Blur and Hugs think Isai is overrated in it). Thoughts?

Off the top of my head, we have Kameme and JK playing in JK's round one. In a tournament with 10 PGR players and seventy-seven others, that's two of the top 50 playing round one. Chanshu, a top Ryu from Japan, is playing KEN round one. Earth vs. 9B, takera vs. Umeki, and komo vs. ikep are a few matches that could be played round TWO. Meanwhile, StAr | Frawwwg is seeded number one. Now, I'm not questioning Frawwwg here. I have no doubt he's a great player and a great guy. But this seeding, especially for a tournament that will likely come out to be B-tier on the new TTS, is a little... half-baked.

Anyway, this will result in at least a few losers runs more extended than necessary, but at least it's something interesting. let's go Frawwwg, prove me wrong!
