| Feedback Poll: Image Macro Memes Posted: 10 Jul 2017 10:43 AM PDT An image macro is a type of meme made using a picture with superimposed text (think Advice Animals, although that's not the only type). Here's the wiki article on what an image macro is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_macro Right now, /r/pokemongo prohibits image macro submissions of any kind. However, we are considering changing that rule, and we'd like your feedback on it. Specifically, we'd like to know whether you prefer the sub entirely without image macros, if you'd like all macros to be allowed, or if you'd rather see some middle ground. Give your feedback here! https://goo.gl/forms/GV0ZcmXmbnecSCco1 The survey is just one question long, and there's a nice Vulpix gif in it for you at the end!(Note: Our subreddit has had difficulty with bot manipulation of our polls in the past. To prevent that this time around, you'll have to sign in with Google Forms to respond. Rest assured that your response is still completely anonymous.) [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 10 Jul 2017 03:49 AM PDT TL;DR - HERE IS A SCREENSHOT OF THE CODE FOR INCENSE. IF YOU GO MORE THAN 200M/MINUTE YOU CAN GET ONE PER MINUTE. I'm posting what might be "known information" to a lot of people, because many more people have joined the sub since the early days when it was talked about more, and I believe everybody deserves to stop wasting their incense. Okay, so let me start with a screenshot of the code for incense just to get the "primary source" out of the way - it's the computer code for the game itself. Doesn't get more primary than that. EDIT: special thanks to /u/omnialord/ , whose screenshot this probably is - but I no longer remember for sure, I'm sorry! Would love to give credit where credit is due! http://i.imgur.com/fQwswDH.png Okay so, What this says basically is that incense should pop one pokemon every five minutes for you when you run incense UNLESS you move 200 meters or more in one 60 second time period, in which case pop a pokemon at the end of that minute. If you bike ride fast enough, or longboard, or rollerskate, or whatever you may choose to do that goes fast enough to trigger it, included but not limited to perhaps having someone drive you around at like 10-15mph you can easily get one pokemon per minute the entire half hour. In previous comments where this was discussed on other threads, I was informed that one cannot jog/run this speed, however the comments to this thread already suggest this is not strictly accurate - apparently one can run this fast, which is great! I was likewise uncertain if people could bike fast enough to make this work, but the comments have already suggested below that biking will also work fine for this - great news! I do it regularly and have for a full year now. If you go faster, the incense will still spawn pokemon once per minute but when they spawn they get left behind in their little pink/purple ring of smoke. Yes, you can ask your friend to turn around and drive back, and you can still tap on it and catch it. But if you tap and suddenly accelerate you're risking it popping out and running because you've moved too far/too fast from the spawn point. So I have someone drive me at about 15mph down rural roads and I catch for half an hour, then trade places and they catch for half an hour while I drive. If incense "never works" for you, make sure your phone's date and time are set to "automatic". EDIT: I'm ultra rural. We have to go into town to grocery shop or do banking or whatever other errands, or to see the in-laws/kids' grandparents. It's an hour round-trip, so we combine our incense runs with the necessary outings. It costs far too much just living like this and HAVING to drive that far to accomplish anything, I would certainly never voluntarily waste gas just to use an incense/play pogo. I admit I used to occasionally take half hour back roads' drives, when the game was newer and I was trying so hard to get to level 20, but not for a long time now. edit 2 - people are asking why I"m sharing "known" information - because many of us are now joining raid groups and finding that a majority of trainers aren't on reddit and many don't watch youtube videos about the game, so we have to tell them about things like this. Instead I've started to refer them to the reddit subs that pertain to the game, and so I figure if I"m doing it then probably others are too. Which suggests that we have had an influx of new users recently and will probably continue to do so. So, I thought this might be something that new users might find useful. For those who are not wanting to see this thread title on their "hot" / front page of this sub, you can click the "hide" button under the thread title/under this opening post and then it won't appear anymore. Sorry for any inconvenience. Just trying to be helpful. [link] [comments] | ||

| I heard you guys like themed gyms... Posted: 10 Jul 2017 06:20 PM PDT My wife, a friend, and myself set this up a short while ago. Say what you will about the new gym system, but seeing these three together is totally awesome. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 10 Jul 2017 02:12 PM PDT Raids just seem off. A two star raid hardly takes 2 Pokemon, while I tried a Vaporeon the other day and time ran out before my second Pokemon died... that's just so wrong. I would have beat it... I'm level 32 for reference (casual-hardcore-ish). If I start a raid by myself, why does a timer need to be there? I have 6 Pokemon, let me use them! Especially if I had to wait 2 minutes to set them up! [link] [comments] | ||
| PLEASE remove revives from raid loot table Posted: 10 Jul 2017 01:21 PM PDT Its been said before...but seriously. Getting revives from the raid boss feels like such a slap in the face. This week I did 6 raids in a row without getting a single TM. I blame the revives for taking their places lol [link] [comments] | ||
| This PokéStop name in Italian is just hilarious Posted: 10 Jul 2017 02:56 PM PDT It translates correctly to this: "Engraving of Holy Mary with below a very nice sign of someone's name I don't give a shit to look at" EXACT WORDS. It's funny how this was even allowed.... [link] [comments] | ||
| [Discussion] Bring back spins for XP even if your bag is full. Posted: 10 Jul 2017 07:06 PM PDT This was how it was in the beginning of them, is there any reason why Niantic got rid of it? It's not a problem for me to discard some useless Nanabs and Revives and less-than-Max potions, but I'd rather not have to do that every time I reach my bag max. [link] [comments] | ||

| Collecting and leveling up Gym Badges has given me a new end-game Posted: 10 Jul 2017 08:13 AM PDT First off, I like the new gym system a hundred times better than what it was. I have way more coins now than I ever had, gyms don't take half an hour to bring down (I'm a solo player), the vast majority of players aren't beaten down into submission by the minority of top-tier players, and the gym line-ups and battles are way more interesting. Also, raids were a brilliant move. But the biggest reason I love the new gyms, is the incentive to collect badges and level them up. I'm big into traveling, and the gym map (which I'm sure will improve over time), has become a travelog of sorts. I love seeing where I've been and remembering the stories associated with each gym (like, "oh yeah, that's where I raided the Lapras with 15 strangers", or "that's where my Scizor somehow stayed in the gym for a week", etc). My new goal in the game is to get as many gold gym badges as I can, in as many different cities/states/countries that I can. And to build up my badges I'm incentivized to raid, fight at, and defend gyms as best as I can. I find myself excited to play again. I love going out and spending an evening building up my current badges and collecting new ones. If at some point I have a Gold badge in every gym within a 20 mile radius of my house, I'll then feel like I "beat" the game. But even then I'd still enjoy beefing up my "travelog" of gym badges every time I traveled. Level 40 has little appeal to me. Collecting all the mons is still a goal for me too, but it isn't one that you can actively do much about. I know that everyone plays the game for different reasons and enjoys different aspects of it, but collecting gold gym badges has finally given me the end game that I've been waiting for. | [Story] awkward work encounter today... Posted: 10 Jul 2017 09:47 AM PDT TIL my Mystic rival who I have been diligently kicking out of the gym that is my workplace for weeks is..... my boss. I heard her talking to another coworker (who I didn't know played) about gym drift and I swooped over and discovered she's the one I've been battling with. I expected my rival to be one of the other interns, so I'm laughing but also embarrassed because now we both know how much time we spend playing this game instead of working....... Anyone else have awkward/funny/great stories about work and PoGo? [link] [comments] | ||
| So far, the one year anniversary has been a total letdown (at least for me) Posted: 10 Jul 2017 07:36 PM PDT I'm going to get straight to the point so here goes. So far we've had:
After an entire year of grinding and making Niantic's pockets fatter, we get this as a thank you for our continued loyalty. And no, I don't think we should have to attend a paid event (Pokemon Go Fest) to experience a proper anniversary celebration which is what we all expected I'm sure. I don't mean to sound whiny or negative but I'm just frustrated that nearly everything we've looked forward to this summer haven't turned out to be as we've expected. With that said, I'm really hoping the coming weeks turn out to be a lot better than we've experienced so far and that Niantic has something better in-store for those of us who won't be attending the Pokemon Go Fest event. This was supposed to feel like an anniversary celebration but so far it hasn't been and I hope that changes soon. Edit: Added an extra bullet point. [link] [comments] | ||
| [Idea] What if Raid Passes had charges? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 10:46 AM PDT I've been looking through several ideas about raid passes, but I felt like making it go to "per usage" kinda makes people more "conservative". People who wants to make the full use of the couple of uses would spend them all at tier 4 raids, and leaving tier 1, 2 and 3 raids empty. However, I've thought of having charges would perhaps improve this system. Let's say you're given 10 charges on your Raid Pass per day. Tier 1 Raids use up 1 charge. Tier 2 Raids use up 2 charges. Tier 3 Raids use up 3 charges. Tier 4 Raids use up 4 charges. This gives the user more versatility to how to use them up efficiently, they can go for ten Tier 1 raids, or two Tier 4 raids and a Tier 2 raid, and so on. The combination is endless (not really). Niantic could perhaps add 5 charges per day, and to gain more charges on top they could complete certain activities in-game, such as the first Gym fight of the day would replenish 2 more charges. Premium Passes could be abolished for something as simple as a raid pass full charge. Hopefully this would encourage all trainers to spend their raid charge tactically and feel that it's not of a waste to challenge lower tier raids. Of course this idea could be further improved on, the above example is just an example. TL; DR

| How is the combat system still unplayable one year on? Posted: 10 Jul 2017 02:48 PM PDT I LOVED raids. Me and my family had a great time taking down a Tyranitar with a bunch of strangers, getting to know them, working together, only managing at the last minute to finally take it down... at that moment I thought that I was going to stick with Pokemon Go for real this time. I have had a real love-hate relationship with Go. I want to love it as I love Pokemon so much and the idea of Pokemon integrated with the real world is what I've always wanted. But the poor way the game has been handled has put me off time and time again. However, when I tried out raids I thought, you know what, this might actually keep me around for good this time. It took a matter of days for me to realise that nothing has changed. I think it was a Dragonite we were trying to fight in a raid. We fought hard to beat it but the game kept glitching, doing the death loop, lagging, crashing... doing everything possible to stop us from winning. We would have won had it not been for all the problems that are currently in the battle system. I haven't played Pokemon Go since. I want to play this damn game so badly but I can't because with the combat system as it is both gym battles and raids are unplayable. The game lags so badly it's unreal, firstly, and that's so simple to at least help I cannot believe Niantic hasn't done it already - just don't have to map loaded while gym battles are going on. You can see the map laid out beyond the confines of the gym and I am confused as to why because all it's gonna do is lag the game out, which is a massive issue. The game also has so many glitches which make it impossible to fight in half of the battles. But the underlying system is just dull. It's just tapping. And occasionally swiping. They could make a tap based combat system that actually has some depth to it, that's not impossible. So why not? They could make the game FUN. Is that not desirable, Niantic? This battle system needs a massive overhaul. I thought they were doing that when they said they would give the gyms an overhaul. Sure, the gym system wasn't fun before but even if they HAD made the system better, it would have still felt unplayable because of the awful combat. They targeted ENTIRELY the wrong aspect of the game. I don't know how PVP is gonna work with this system. It just won't. Something needs to be changed. They need to make the damn combat better, with less lag (some is acceptable, it is a mobile game), none of these annoying glitches, a system that would not be heavily hindered by a little lag, some sort of strategy or tactics, even if it's basic (throwing Vaporeon or Dragonite at everything does not constitute tactics) and just something that is enjoyable. We are a year into this game. How is this game's combat still as bad (in fact, probably now worse) than it was when the game was released? TL:DR - The combat system is laggy and full of glitches, as well as being just bland and unfun even if you manage to avoid the lag and glitches. How is it that the combat is still so terrible a year in? [link] [comments] | ||
| [Idea] Gym Badges showing Raids Posted: 10 Jul 2017 06:25 PM PDT What if when you looked at your gym badges, they could tell you which gyms have raids currently occurring in them, and maybe what difficultly level it is. This could really change the play rate in raids in more rural areas as its not uncommon for local gyms to just be out of range to see what Raids are occurring, and actively going out every 2 hours to check if one is happening is somewhat tedious. If the badges told me which Raids were happening around me without me having to actually be able to see the gym on the map, it would make it a lot easier to take part in raids, as its not uncommon for me to miss good raids when travelling to a different gym, being completely unaware that the raid is happening. | [Screenshot] My First Pokemon GO outing Posted: 10 Jul 2017 06:49 PM PDT I've always really wanted to try out Pokemon GO ever since it's release but I'd never had data which what I thought was a requirement. Now however I recently got data (a promotion from my company) and decided to try Pokemon GO out. So far I've biked to my gym and around the neighbourhood to nearby PokeStops, I've caught a good load of pokemon (or so what I think lol) and have reached level 8 (Chose Mystic because of Peer pressure). Here are the pokemon I've caught so far, how do you think I did? http://imgur.com/a/eSZ9B [link] [comments] | ||

| [Discussion] Pro-Tip If you're extended gym ownership falls, be courteous, don't attack Posted: 10 Jul 2017 09:24 AM PDT If you have your pokemon in the same gym for 5+, 6+, even 7+ days and it finally gets knocked out, be courteous to the one who just defeated your pokemon, be thankful. Don't attack the gym and re-claim it immediately. Maybe wait 8 hours, let the guy get his coins worth, and then re-claim it. I mean.. the guy just did ya a massive favor, the least you could do is say thank you :) Plus, retaking it right away is not going to encourage that guy to come back to that gym ever again, which will decrease your chances of getting that gym defeated again. Just a helpful tip for friendly play with the new gym system. [link] [comments] | ||
| [Photo] Poliwhirl looks awfully creepy in this gym orientation... Posted: 10 Jul 2017 08:40 PM PDT https://i.imgur.com/KPl6NP5.png I love the new gym system but the orientation of Pokémon definitely leaves something to be desired. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 10 Jul 2017 10:12 AM PDT Open I am hoping that next year Niantic puts out Pokemon holding gift boxes so when you catch the little guys you'll get a little notification saying it was holding a gift box click to claim. I really WAS hoping that's what the Santa hat and party hat Pikachu's all meant, when you caught them they had something for you. I'm really hoping by next year that Niantic has eenabled a few of the more interesting game capabilities like Pokemon holding items, battle items, fighting wild Pokemon, i didnt forget PVP and trading of course.
