Posted: 12 Jul 2017 06:14 PM PDT I am currently playing Invoker right now, he's a really fun hero. But I think my problem is that if I want to cast spell, I usually cast them by casting the whole combination, when in reality, you can just chain them. For example: Tornado > Meteor > Deafening Blast = wwq, eew, (cd), qwe,, when in theory you can just replace 1 of the combination (in that case being one of the e) to cast deafening blast. But sometimes when I try that, it replaces the other combination, like the w into q, making it not a meteor, but a forged spirit. Sorry I'm suck at explaining this thing, hope you guys can help. edit: by combination I mean the combination of the orb, not spells. [link] [comments]
Somebody please break down Hand of Midas for me Posted: 12 Jul 2017 08:52 AM PDT My team mates had a panic attack last night when the enemy invoker got one at ~25m. If I'm reading the item description correctly, midas pays for itself after roughly 15-20m, which would have been the end of the game anyways. Is there something I'm missing about midas? AS on an invoker doesn't seem as scary as aghs, and midas from the 25m point doesn't seem scary because of the 100s CD. Gp5 items were always unreliable and trash tier in league. Please break it down for a Dota noob. [link] [comments]
What hero requires the most diverse set of knowledge? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 03:06 PM PDT Not necessarily the most difficult heros, just ones that require good overall game knowledge. Rubick comes to mind for me because knowing what ability to take from what hero requires a lot of foresight and generally supports have more to worry about than other roles (stacking, pulling, warding, etc). I was also considering Mirana because she can be played in basically every role, the timing on her arrow is very precise, and she needs good map awareness to know when the right time to ult is. A hero I don't think fits into this very well is Viper. He's tanky, hard to punish, doesn't really need to worry about mana and has an easy time last hitting and getting solo kills. He also doesn't require very much mechanical skill with abilities or items. What do you all think? [link] [comments]
Self casting with quick casting on Posted: 12 Jul 2017 06:46 PM PDT In an attempt to improve my game, I've been trying to learn how to use quick casting. However, I've noticed that I can no longer self cast some items/ spells. For instance if I want to use omni's q or w on myself and double tap it, I get "no taget". Is this functionality not available with quick cast on? Thanks for the help. [link] [comments]
Winrate of 20% in the last 20 games and estimated MMR is going up?? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:50 AM PDT Hello, my friends and I just got back into playing Dota and we really suck lol. It's very rare that we win a game, and if we do, it's because someone really good on our team carried us there. This would be okay if our ranking was going down and our matches were becoming more even, but this isn't the case at all. Our matches seem just as hard if not harder, and on open Dota my estimated MMR went up 400 points after two huge losses. https://www.opendota.com/players/47625482 Why is this happening? We're playing against players who in general seem to be way better than us almost every game. They buy wards, are organized at team fighting, and play really well in lane. Meanwhile, I'm struggling to break 200 gpm as the designated carry lol. Since we almost never win, my friends are getting discouraged and may quit :( Is there any way to play against worse opponents? Is the matchmaking as bad as it seems? Also a side note, any good carries that are easy to last hit with? I'm much better with viper than drow or phantom but my friends want me to hard carry, despite my atrocious last hitting. [link] [comments]
What's the best item to kill creep waves late game? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:47 AM PDT I spam WD and have plenty of gold late game and have difficulty pushing back creep waves defending base. WD is soft and squishy and its difficult to get out of base after the 50 minute mark and not get one-hit ganked by heros like PA. [link] [comments]
How to see what I'm actually doing wrong vs toxic players? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 01:40 PM PDT I've started playing recently and I've found I actually really enjoy playing support heroes, at least ones that I feel like I am contributing to teamfights somehow (Lich, Bane, Skywrath Mage, and the like). I've read purge's guide and many others along with playing a good chunk of bot matches. So at this point, the best way I figured for me to improve and learn the game is to play. But my problem is its hard getting constructive criticism. I'm fine with being told what I did wrong, hell even being blamed for a loss, if its actually my fault. But I'm having issues getting that, I get "gg report veno, no wards" when I always tried to buy and place wards every point I could (unless I was not far from arcane boots or something). I ask for more info, and am given none. I know that this game has a rep for toxicity, but how am I supposed to improve when I cannot see which are actually my mistakes and which are just flamers looking for a scapegoat? Thanks for any tips. [link] [comments]
Dealing with Bristleback as a support Posted: 12 Jul 2017 01:25 PM PDT I play most of the time as a support so I'd like to ask how do you deal with Bristleback as a support to help our safe lane core because when BB is owning the lane, our carry cannot farm efficiently. Or any recommended support heroes that are very good against laning with BB. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How to have more map awareness and be more careful? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 04:16 PM PDT hi, I came from playing competitive CSGO (high level) towards Dota for fun, been playing it for about 4 days now and I know the basics, but what i've seen is that I have really bad map awareness, i am trying to look @map as much as I can during a match but it just doesnt help and I usually get ganked, so my question is how can I have more map awareness and being more careful before getting ganked? I usually go back towards the tower but sometimes its just not enough. I am usually playing Chaos Knight and I seen that if there's a good witch doctor against me he just does some kind of thing that makes rockets being shot at me lol. Sorry for all the rough explanation but I am really, really bad. Also how can I be more helpful to the team? I am trying to not feed as much as possible but sometimes I am getting again - ganked :( Thanks for the help in advance. [link] [comments]
When do I acctually pick Elder Titan? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 12:04 PM PDT Elder Titan is one of those heroes I don't see often and have no idea why. Pretty good counter to basically every agility hero that are very into stats. As all there agility based armour simply gets removed when you are near them. And all there base magic res is also gone to, soo bye Meepos 35% base magic res. And lets not forget that his ult deal % dmg based on there max health. If you get lucky and get 5 man wombo combo stomb and stand near them when ult is activated, pretty much half there hp gets deleted. Even more if Veil and medallion/solar crest is casted onto them. I havn't played much Elder Titan, but i see no direct counter to him except heroes with build in BKB (Lifestealer, Juggernaut) or Clockwork becaus I can't do nothing if he activates battery assult. Except them, what acctually make people hinder him? [link] [comments]
How do evasion and magic resistance stack ? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 09:26 AM PDT i've seen that there are some types of stacking, "additively" "diminishingly" "multiplicatively", what do each of theese mean, and for example how does evasion stack for butterfly and heavens halberd? [link] [comments]
| Posted: 12 Jul 2017 01:59 AM PDT Hi, I need some tips for the offlane. Currently my strategy picks are:
I know that there are much better picks for this believes, but these are the heroes i like. Even though i am still suck at Underlord, I want to be good with him. How to win games coming out of the offlane? I am failing offlanes at my MMR (2k). I mean, most of the time I got full XP, but lasthitting is quite hard under pressure and under the tower. Sometimes I die with Underlord early, but I think it's because I don't know his limits. If the enemies pull, I have issues getting XP or contest the pull without the fear of dying and most of the time actually dying. When to do the side camps as offlane? Shall I leave the lane every 2 Minutes for the Bounty Rune? What should be the general gameplan with these offlaners? What and how to transist to the mid-game? Is there another Offlane for specific situations, which is worthwhile to learn? Is my pick strategy bad or need it improvement? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jul 2017 10:21 AM PDT I never see this in pubs, but it just seems a good early item. Provides little attack speed and damage, but most importantly mana substain and a little more thankiness. I think this is great for jugg early because he is squishy and lacks mana to farm and use regen ward often. Also, never find yourself without mana for a spin out. Am i missing something here ? Of course 2nd item i go straight manta. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2017 10:16 PM PDT I just found out you can actually heal people with treant's skill by clicking the hero icon ontop of the hud. Idk if this is a well known thing just wanted to share because I thought it was interesting. [link] [comments]
A bunch of questions from a returning player Posted: 12 Jul 2017 12:10 PM PDT Hello, Context : I still have more hours in WC3 DotA than in Dota2, which I tend to play "intensely but not for long". I briefly played Dota2 during the original Diretide event (aka not normal Dota, yet that thing's probably at least a third of my hours) as well as in 2015 from the end of TI5 up to about the Fall Major. So my idea of "the meta" and general knowledge is a bit all over the place, a mix from TI5 and the much older metas. (I played a lot, way too long actually, during the "Chinese farmers" meta where supports would literally have nothing but boots and wand at 30th in pro games and you'd have Dusa/AM/PL all the time. I missed HOHO, HAHA + Troll meta at least). Trying to get back into the game for the TI season, I've read the patchnotes and played a few dozens games to get back up to speed and now I have a bunch of questions from builds to general strategy. I'll number them trying to go from most general to most specific questions, knowing I intend to play offlane as much as possible with supp and core as fallbacks (in that order, except I need to win some games as core for some of the Battle Pass quests, e.g. BKB or Manta ones. I think I want to do both with Luna, maybe WK for the BKB one). I want to avoid mid if possible, which shouldn't be hard since "me mid pls" is still the prevalent attitude from what I've seen. 1) It looks like roaming is pretty popular right now at least in unranked pubs, which I won't complain about since it means supports are picked more often than what I remember. (I'd say at least 80% of my games so far have had at least one, sometimes two supports in both teams. Maybe ranked's worse than unranked for that though, especially around 3k) In terms of position, is your roamer usually considered as pos 4 or 5 ? Do they leech xp off their lanes after a gank whether successful or not ? When not roaming, how good are trilanes ? I've seen a few, going from a complete crushing of the opposite dual lane to epic fails that end with several deaths for the trilane and a likely short game. Offlane context : I enjoy offlaners who can fight back and capitalize on my opponents' mistakes (which are bound to happen seeing as I'm nowhere near the top skill bracket for unranked, and for ranked I calibrated at about 3,3 or 3,5k in 2015 and didn't play much ranked afterwards, so if MMR doesn't deprecate that's where I'll end up). So far I've had my best results with Centaur, pretty decent with Queen of Pain, pretty bad with Tidehunter, atrocious with Broodmother and NS (both played only once though). Trying Weaver at the moment, seems worth getting better with him. On the other hand I absolutely don't understand how you offlane with Bristleback, seems too easy to bully early if he's not supported. Had pretty bad results with him as offlaner, maybe I should've maxed his namesake skill ? I went W-E-W-E-W-R-W-E-E-Talent-Q with him I think, but even with maxed Bristleback I'm not sure he can get the needed farm as offlaner. 7) I see people max Mana Drain second on Lion. Why ? I mean, I see that you double the drain amount from level 3 to 4, but isn't it better to have the maximum disable duration possible for the first big fights (which should happen way before you get to level 14+) ? I always thought that was the main reason for a Lion pick. When I've played him so far I put two points in Mana Drain (at levels 4 and 8) to help with the sustain but still maxed Hex before. Maybe it's related to why I sometimes see Lions draining instead of autoattacking during a gank, which I'd understand against AM or WK but sometimes the target also simply walks away with 30 hps... Slightly related to those : I remember in 2015 there were people on this subreddit who'd do "replay analysis" as a YT video to help players see their mistakes, mostly regarding decision-making. Is it still done ? That was very useful and if I actually stick around I'd like to submit another replay to such a person. (Not right now though, no point trying to improve on minor things when I haven't gotten my mechanics completely back-up and am still doing very blatant mistakes, such as dying wayyyyy too much) Thanks in advance to anyone who read this wall o' text, figured it's better to just play for a while and make one big questions thread than spam the sub with smaller questions. If noone answers, well I'll be proven wrong. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:38 AM PDT Hi guys! Wondering what I could've done to kinda not get stomped this game? I was the CM and went offlane with Jugg solo with a roaming Pudge and Invo went mid against PA. Axe went jungle and Naix was forced to go 1v3 (at times) with Ogre, Necro, and the roaming Pudge. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Match ID: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3309539236 Edit: Added match ID [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:15 AM PDT Recently I have been trying to get better at the game, by watching different guides over general tips which improve your gameplay as well as listening to some coach's advice. So far in the "theoretical part" I have learned a lot! Am gonna put a small list down here: 1) I know that I have to be aware of the mini-map most of the time 2) I know that I have to check my team-mates lanes every so often to see how they are doing. 3) I know that I need to check my enemies items and my team-mates items to have a better judgment over my own build 4) I know that during a game, I should assign priorities to all the enemy heroes so I understand who has the highest threat to my team. ... And the list goes on. I know all of these things and yet, while I am playing, I know nothing. As soon as I start the game, I have this "pressure" building up on me to perform good. And this "pressure" causes me to play nervously. I never focus on the things that I should. I have a complete brain fart during the game, and when I die in the early game and then I check the mini-map with 2 empty lanes, I feel embarrassed. I am certain it is all because I play while feeling under pressure, because in some rare days, when I am calm and I don't care (this is especially when I am on a party game), I perform really good, and do every single thing that I have learned. So that's all. Do you guys know how I can get rid of this feeling of being under pressure. I really feel like a retard for stressing out in a game. [link] [comments]
Looking for a quick recommendation Posted: 12 Jul 2017 08:37 AM PDT Haven't played much since the big talent tree update partially because it was overwhelming and partially because college has been overwhelming. Is there a handful of characters you'd suggest for getting back into things? [link] [comments]
Can someone convince me why I should pick QOP mid over Lina ? Posted: 12 Jul 2017 07:20 AM PDT Having played both heroes a bit, I feel Lina does a far better job at most things compared to QOP such as - 1: Low CD, relatively low mana nukes 2: A proper Stun, which is almost always better than a slow (LSA vs Shadow Strike) 3: Personally I feel QOP feels a bit weak entering the mid to mid-late game phase. She doesn't have a great attack speed, without items like maelstrom and Mjollnir, and those aren't really cheap considering you would go for other initial items like Veil, Treads, Orchid, Linkins, etc before something more pure damage and attack speed oriented like the previous two I mentioned. Also flash farming with her feels more costly considering the 140 mana nuke Scream of Pain, and even then you have to right click the creeps either before or after to get all CS. With Lina you can flash farm so bloody well as Dragon Slave and Light Strike Array clear a whole wave of creeps if you pick the damage talent for Light Strike Array. Lina also has an inbuilt attack speed steroid, and so can dish out way more damage from nukes and right clicks then a QOP, right through early game to late game. 4: AOE pure damage is awesome. And that's all I got on QOP over Lina. Then their is blink. So that's two. But nothing else. 5: I really feel QOP hits this huge power spike with the level 25 spell lifesteal talent. But that's at 25. I know Lina gets 4 fiery souls at 25 herself, but in most occasions 3 fiery souls +50 damage at 15 and maybe some item like maelstrom already make Lina a physical dps and Magical nuking machine, way better than QOP in any case that is.. Can anyone that plays both heroes and are experienced tell me what am I missing ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jul 2017 08:16 PM PDT At my MMR (2K), every game lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour which is excruciatingly painful for me because I hate long games. The losing team always turtles under tower so how do we counter that? There is roshan which is great for forcing a teamfight but any other choices? [link] [comments]
