| Centaur Warrunner starting items and a larger question about PMS vs Vanguard Posted: 13 Jul 2017 04:58 PM PDT Hello friends I'm and mid to upper 2k player and I was looking for some advice on here. Generally speaking Centaur is one of my best heroes 65 percent win rate, I consistently win solo lanes and I am well versed in his itemization with one exception, my starting gold and the first items. No if I went with the standard build for Centaur in the guides I would start with Tangos and a PMS however against physical line ups Crimson Guard is one of my core items and considering that in my MMR it is not uncommon to face a team that includes PA, Sniper, and Lifestealer I normally pass on the PMS and go for vanguard after my Tranquil boots. right now my starting item build is tango, salve, and windlace with 140 gold remaining, with my first last hit I fight my way to the side shop and pick up a stout shield. Which lead me to my questions,

| How should beginners improve themselves? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:27 PM PDT I don't mean newbies but beginners with around 100-300 hours put in. What resources are available online to get better? How did you learn when you were a beginner? [link] [comments] |

| How to farm is team is composed of 3 or 4 farm-heavy heroes? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 07:48 PM PDT https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3308522829 Had this game where I did pretty horrible at. One main reason I could think of why we lost is because I didn't farm fast enough. So here's what happened: I was laned with juggernaut in lane. (I know, not the best lane. I wanted to lane with shadow shaman.) And so, we began competing for last hits. The problem with that is Sven's attack animation has a delay while Juggernaut's is quick, resulting in him taking most of the last hits. After 5 mins or so, Juggernaut went to jungle. This was supposed to be good for my farm, because I get all the last hits. The bad part was, my enemy in lane was a gyro and AA, causing me to die a couple of times (I got too desperate to get last hits). Eventually, I started to jungle when I couldn't defend the T1 tower anymore. While my farming quickened a little bit when I got MoM, I still got a horrible GPM due to the enemy being really, really farmed, and I got ganked while jungling (since they got control of most of the map by then). I also think that my lack of farm is because we competed for the lane and jungle creeps. How do you get good farm with a team composed of 3 or 4 farm-heavy heroes? And how do I get last hits with an allied carry in lane? [link] [comments] |
| Efficient spell usage as supports? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 06:41 PM PDT I know a large part of it is using the correct spells on the correct targets. But I always struggle with the timing. For example if i play lion I usually just run into a fight stun there damage dealer randomly when i get a chance and then hex. I think i understand silences better since you just use it to prevent certain reactions, but with spells like stuns and hex i kinda just throw randomly out here. Is there like a guide or anyone that can help me out? [link] [comments] |
| What are heroes that you think could fit any lineup? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 06:34 PM PDT What are some of the most versatile heroes in the game which fits every draft. For support Lion, Venge, CM, and Shadow Shaman comes to my mind. For carries I can only think of Jugg, and maybe Bloodseeker. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 05:00 PM PDT Basically the title, but I don't mean time of day. When is the best time for a new player to calibrate in ranked? After learning and getting comfortable on one or 2 heroes? What type of game knowledge should you have before you calibrate your MMR? [link] [comments] |
| Considering trying Dota again after ~8 month break, have some questions. Posted: 13 Jul 2017 03:38 PM PDT Hi everyone, So around 8 months ago I stopped playing Dota, mainly because I was getting too salty about my low MMR (~1.5k), but also because I had some other priorities in life. I'm now willing to start over with a clean slate, but I have a couple of questions.
If you come up with anything else to mention, feel free to as well! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 05:23 AM PDT I'm a sub 2k mmr player that plays support a lot. I feel like I'm decent with my wards and when to roam or babysit but I have really no clue when to use smoke the only times I have ever used it is to go into rosh. Any help on when to use smoke is appreciated thx [link] [comments] |
| Is it worth making a new account? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 02:25 PM PDT Back when international ranked came out, I calibrated at 900mmr. I played and won a few games, got to 970, and then I was forced to abandon a couple of games (bad internet and getting suddenly called into work). Since then, I have not been able to go on a winning streak and gain more than 50 mmr without losing it instantly, and have dropped to 500mmr. Now I'm playing in 300mmr average games and constantly get feeders and flamers who single handedly lose games for me. I tried spamming lina mid to carry games, and I would carry but we would still lose. I'm now spamming phoenix support because no one ever plays support, and its not worked. Should I just recalibrate with a new account? thx [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 10:00 AM PDT Hey guys is this mek lich/kotl a really old build I'm not aware of? I've been getting people in my trench who just play lich or kotl, build mek but never use them cuz apparently they claim they never have the mana to cast them in fights. This triggers me quite a lot frankly because that 2k gold could be used for so much better items like forcestaff glimmer or faster aghs. Same reason like why OD used to have mek in his build? Just having mana to use it? [link] [comments] |
| Could I have done anything to prevent these game losses Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:43 PM PDT Recently, I am been able to be really consistently good with two heroes (viper and sniper) but somehow it is still not translating to a higher than average win %. | Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:13 PM PDT A recent post regarding Echo on Jugg vs Tiny some people were discussing IAS vs BAT. This reminded me of a game where I slapped a Hyperstone on Ursa, and didnt recognize any difference. Thinking it comes down to IAS vs BAT - but dont really understand the application. Anyone care to explain? [link] [comments] |
| Am I crazy or is Aether Lens on Lina a very good first item? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 08:48 AM PDT It gives her everything she wants: Mana regeneration Increased cast range (allows you to take LSA damage talent which helps with wave clear) Spell amp (allows DS to instantly clear the ranged creep beyond 15 minutes) It has a great build up too with arcanes. Convince me why I shouldn't get Aether Lens after bottle and boots? [link] [comments] |
| Farming Help - Lane vs Jungle and Jungle Efficiency Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:22 PM PDT I am having trouble with farming, I find that as a core/carry, I cannot get enough farm. I know that improving my farming will go a long way. My trouble isn't with last hitting - that is simply mechanic thing and practice (yes, its not the best, but practice practice practice). The trouble I have is knowing when to leave the lane to farm jungle (if your hero can) or to rotate for kills. I also have trouble with maximizing lane farm by pulling etc. With jungle, I struggle as I find killing the neutrals slow, and feel like being in the lane would be better for gold/xp. Often times I find myself sitting there waiting for my hero to hack away at the neutral - this can't be efficient. As far as pulling goes, it doesn't exist in my books of tricks, as in I don't actually do it, I know how to do it, but I don't really know WHEN it is a good idea to do it and when it is not a good idea to do it, thus why I never actually do it. For the rotating part, I find it hard to determine what conditions make a rotation efficient. I find I rotate, and we get the kill, but sometimes I feel like it could have been secured without me, and now I sit in a lane with three people waiting for my TP to come off cooldown. I also find myself rotating and not getting the kill. Again, these are two scenarios that are not efficient. Even if I am need, and we secure the kill, it seems like the measly 300 gold or so wasn't worth the rotation, as again, I am now sitting in lane with a TP on cooldown waiting to go back to my lane. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks so much [link] [comments] |
| How does a high mmr player learn with games? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:22 PM PDT Might sound like a stupid a question and it probably is but recently i feel like i dont learn anything with games.I might win most of my games, might stomp my enemy but it seems like i dont improve myself. So, when people say that you need to play to learn, what do they mean? Just improve their farm or how they build their hero? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 12:01 PM PDT Hey all, quick question regarding a bizarre problem I've had for the last few months. A lot of times when I use the courier to deliver my items, the courier ends up traveling to the location where I was when I issued the "deliver items" command and doesn't deliver my items. This is particularly problematic when I'm playing mid and I was in the river or something when I issued the command, and the creep wave pushes to my high ground and the courier just runs straight past the creep wave to the enemy hero. Am I crazy or have other people noticed this as well? The weird thing is that it doesn't happen every time, only some of the time. I have been working around the problem by quickly selecting it and issuing the "deliver items" command again before it goes too far, but it has caused a couple courier deaths over the past few months. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 01:33 AM PDT Tonight I played a game with antimage which I thought may be educational to some lower mmr players on this sub. I often see people complaining about picking a fragile hard carry into a tough game, and I think that while this wasn't my best game on AM (I have around 20~ games), it could certainly be a very educational one for many players. | Bloodseeker mid, why is it not more common? Posted: 13 Jul 2017 11:10 AM PDT Bloodseeker has crazy sustain with his q, can basically skip regen, and a very fast level 6 helps him immensely. Why is he not played mid more commonly? Though I am a low me, so he may fall off a lot at higher mmrs, just wondering if I should stop doing this because it's a bad practice. [link] [comments] |
| Offlaner wanting to become Good Mid Posted: 12 Jul 2017 09:36 PM PDT I've played mainly offlane since March to great success. I like the lane, but I realized I loved mid after having recently played a successful Invoker game & want to become a much better mid player. Back when I was a much worse player (this was like a year or two ago), I would spam Pudge mid and I didn't learn all the much. I know plenty about creep aggro and stuff like that that an offlaner should know, but I'd like to learn the goal of playing mid and how to control the lane. I have enough experience with the easy mid heroes, as well as Invoker, Ember, Storm, SF, and some Tinker to get me by. Just need to know how I should play the lane as opposed to how I'd play offlane, which is essentially fuck with creep equillibrium, harass the carry, and keep the support on his toes. Need to also know where to keep the creeps at a given time + when to push & take the t1. Also want to know what heroes I should try/might like. Thanks. For reference, my favorite offlane heroes are Void, Axe, Bristle, Timber, Centaur, and SB. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 13 Jul 2017 04:40 AM PDT I am stuck at this Bracket for months although I feel like having so much impact as pos 4/5 in the early game. However me and my team are often not able to use our advantage to end the game properly before the 30min mark. Some tips would be awesome and already sorry for my bad english :) [link] [comments] |
| I want to start learning Meepo Posted: 13 Jul 2017 10:25 AM PDT I'm a 4k MMR (international ranked) player that typically plays mid Invoker most games. I like more complicated heros and high skill cap heros and have yet to give Meepo a try in a ranked game. I have a few questions: 1. When I make unit specific hotkeys such as binding "E" or "R" to a Meepo will that change my other hotkeys for other units? 2. Is it better to have a hot key for each Meepo or just to Tab through each one? 3. Should I change my items to quick cast for this hero only? I'm on mobile so sorry if the formatting is off.
