Free Talk Friday - July 14th

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 01:54 AM PDT

Heyo /r/leagueoflegends! It's that time of the week once again, and our weekly Free Talk Friday thread is back! Hope it's been a good week :)

The reveal of our favorite crab-legged abomination's update dropped unexpectedly earlier in the week - what do y'all think? His new ult looks straight metal - what do you think of the Urgod's new looks?

Kayn's also been out for a few days now - how have y'all been farin' with him? I feel like the Darkin form is super good, that healing is awesome. Shadow Assassin seems kinda weak, but only time will tell, right? cough Ivern cough

And finally, this week we're headed back to Westeros for some more Game of Thrones hotness. AHH I'M SO EXCITED. I need more Arya in my life!!

End of the line for this week, yo! Y'all know how it goes on the regular: chitchat, play nice, and chill out! And as always, have a good weekend, yo!!

Lethality was introduced to make armor pen less snowbally and prevent high level solo laners from abusing stacking armor pen, but the recent patch just completely changed this. What is the actual idea of lethality supposed to be now?

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 04:38 AM PDT

From the http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/preseason-2017/assassins article where they introduced lethality for the first time,

Flat armor penetration's been changed to Lethality. They're pretty much the same thing, but the bulk of Lethality's penetration scales with your opponent's level. This makes it less snowbally, meaning we can give Assassins more of it than we could flat armor penetration!

Also from the same patch notes,

Assassins have a snowball problem. When ahead, they're really ahead, but when behind, they're pretty underwhelming. In part, this is the nature of a 1-on-1, outplay champion. But for physical assassins, flat armor penetration is exacerbating the problem. Mages and marksmen—the assassin's natural prey—don't typically build defenses early on, so the bulk of their armor in lane comes from levels (Zhonya's Hourglass is the main exception). So, if assassins start snowballing, flat armor penetration punches through a significant portion of their target's armor, continuing the snowball. But if assassins fall behind, their threat is mitigated by their targets' innate stats alone. To give attack damage based assassins more consistency, we're reworking armor penetration to be more consistently impactful late game without being overbearing early on.

But from the latest 7.14 patch notes here http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-714-notes,

But, with mobility removed, the Dirk items need a different way to help assassins carry advantages forward. Changing lethality from enemy-scaling to self-scaling fills this gap while advancing our original goals by pushing it further away from bot-laners (who tend to be lower level).

SCALING Lethality grants armor penetration based on your target's level ⇒ your level

I thought the point of lethality was to prevent snowball and to allow bot laners to stand a chance against high level AD assassins. Lethality was to prevent armor pen stacking to shred ADC's low armor before they have a chance to buy into armor items/level up. I know Guardian Angel is now a much more convenient item for ADCs to purchase now but that wasn't the case when the idea of lethality was introduced. Now a solo lane Riven/Zed/Talon or a jungler like Kha'zix or Rengar can power farm through to a high level while stacking lethality and get a 3-5 level advantage of armor pen amongst previous other stats, which sounds pretty broken to me. What is the actual idea of lethality now? Has it's identity changed? Has Riot's stance on snowballing through armor pen changed? Is lethality and AD assassins being weak a reason to change the concept of lethality to what it was supposed to prevent?

Hey all, this is Carlos 'ocelote', founding CEO of G2 Esports and former scarf wearer. I made a very casual, short video about our League of Legends team's recent slump and it would mean the world to us if you guys would check it out and keep supporting the guys in these tough moments.

The players and whole coaching team are working insanely hard to get back on track and are immensely thankful and honored for your support and encouraging words. We will keep looking for every improvement to make you guys proud moving forward. MSI is not supposed to remain as our peak moment internationally. Please keep trusting us.

As an adc main, idk what it is, but I just love support mains.

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 09:49 AM PDT

Is it just me? Like i look into people's profile post-game and in general if I see they're a support main.. I instantly like them.

I guess it impresses me that someone would dedicate hours of time to see to it that others excel. I don't understand it at all, but I appreciate it and it's a wholesome thing to do.

And even then, if they just pick a legitimate support and do their job properly I feel obliged to honor them even if someone else did well. It's almost like a nurturing bond.

TIL Sion's Q does only 80% damage to monsters and it is NOT noted in the tooltip

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 04:30 AM PDT

For example Gragas Q has this noted in the tooltip for minions, shouldn't it be added to Sion's tooltip too?

EDIT: because some people do not 'believe' me (because it's not written on Sion's Wiki page), and I am unable to upload a video now (I'm at work), I searched the whole internet and the only written evidence I can find is this patch note where it gets nerfed from 90% to 80%: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-56-notes

Dopa/Apdo has finally gotten back to Rank 1 on the korean server, currently with a winrate of 63%. His two most played champions this season are Kassadin with a wnirate of 64% in 231 games, and TF with a winrate of 69% in 170 games. His main account is called "Naist", if you want to look it up. Why Riot is still not adding LP Gain/Loss in Match History? If it's a private thing, then make it only visible for the summoner in his own client, and invisible to the others.

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 02:26 AM PDT

Hi guys.

I have seen this request for years now without any answer from Riot. While I agree that MMR & LP Gain/Loss should be private (you can only imagine the flame that would go in game to someone who gets very low LP gain as a result of a low MMR), this does not explain why Riot is not adding it privately on the summoner's client only.

It does not seem to be very hard to develop (technically speaking). Is there any reason Riot does not want us to access our own LP Gain/Loss that I would ignore? Thanks

After 300 hours of work on a school project, I present to you RealTimeLCS

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 06:36 AM PDT

I watch the LCS every week. I also read twitter all the time while I watch the games, to check out comments from the analysts, the players, the coaches, etc.

My project is a unified platform (website) that combines Twitch TV, Twitch Chat, and real time tweets, all on the same screen. You can close the chat or the tweets whenever you don't want them or don't need them, but personally, on a big enough monitor (I have a 28" on my desk), I keep everything on.

You can use it to watch any stream, doesn't need to be LCS games only. On the main page I show the online streams from Riot (EU/NA LCS + RiotGames channel for events), and the top channels currently online on Twitch based on viewers.

The latest feature that I just implemented are Replays. Basically you can search for one of the VODs from an official stream, and launch it. When you do, tweets will load almost at the same time that they were tweeted with respect to the stream (basically, I save the tweets on a database and synchronize them with the VOD). As this is a new feature, you can't go too far back for the replays, as I don't have the tweets from months ago. However, I watched the Rift Rivals finals this way and had a blast, getting "NA sniper" tweets soon after Doublelift arrowed people across the map. One last thing: no Twitch Chat for replays, as the feature hasn't been officially implemented by the Twitch API.

Anyway, I have no current plans to make money out of the website. There are no ads or anything. Feel free to use it as you see fit. I use the website every week and I probably will continue to do so as long as people use Twitter. However, keeping the website online costs money, so if I see that no one besides me uses it I will probably end up running it on localhost.

I hope you guys will give it a try for today's games. It's a fun and new experience in my opinion.

Please note that I focused on developping a working website for Google Chrome on desktop. It might work on other browsers/devices, but I haven't tested them.

A few links:

Main page

EULCS (now offline)

NALCS (live)

EDIT: From what I see, the replays are having some problems loading the tweets on page load. Sorry for the troubles, this is a great stress test for the project. The live streams are working fine though!

EDIT2: Get ready for NALCS (live)

Is the black screen on load up on the list of things to be fixed?

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 07:09 AM PDT

I know it's not anything big or game breaking but I think it would add a bit more polish(EUW has plenty already) to the game.

Kayn's ultimate has probably the most laughably low damage of any damage-dealers ultimate I've ever seen.

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 10:33 AM PDT

I recognize its power budget leans toward the untargetability and usefulness of it following an enemy around, but has there ever been a single target damage ultimate with damage that underwhelming ever? I've seen it do less than 200 damage on a support Karma.

ARAM needs heavy re-balance of mastery points earned during the game.

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 06:01 AM PDT

Currently the emphasis of killing minions is way too high, meaning that you either have to leave your life steal team members out in the dry or just never see the light of an S or higher. This has been brought up and posted many times and we still have no reliable response from Riot. It encourages teamplay but does not reward it properly, win is a win, but it never reflects your "mastery" of certain champion. Not to mention the KDA (heavily favoring kills) which means anyone who wants to go supportive role is doomed.

Shaclone Inting Once Again

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 06:23 PM PDT

What a surprise, shaclone at it again. Some people never learn...

https://clips.twitch.tv/GentleImpartialPancakePhilosoraptor?tt_medium=redt

Edit1:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_XemnkIYN8

Some people are saying this is a witch hunt and some even accuse me of collaborating and receiving RP from Shaclone, let me refute all the allegations. I have 0 things in common with him, I just happened to stumble across his stream last night. From that single game I could've made at least 10 clips like this!

People that support this kind of behavior are no better than him, how can you even support toxic behavior like inting, it ruins the game for your whole team, just because "your team didn't help you". Do you even realize how stupid that sounds? I don't like saying cancer lightly, but that's exactly what this guy is to this game. A slow spreading cancer ruining the community that needs to be removed as soon as possible, yes, it's a sad thing to say, but that's what it is.

Edit 2:

The guy does it while streaming, without any regards to other people. Let me repeat, while streaming. If Riot doesn't do something about this, they're basically setting an example - hey, this is ok, keep inting while streaming without any repercussions. There are numerous reports in the last week alone about his trolling and inting, just read through the comments and enlighten yourselves. Or you can simply check his op.gg if you do not believe me.

The exposure he's getting is a double-edged sword, on one side he will get more exposure, which I'm perfectly aware of, but on the other side, people can finally see what he is doing and perhaps a similar treatment to that of Tyler1's will occur in the near future, hopefully. Therefore you can all stop commenting about this topic, I'm fully aware of what it will do and I made this topic to shed a light on his nefarious actions.

Shouldn't Twitch's W be called "Poison Cask"?

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 12:15 AM PDT

There is a difference between "Poison" and "Venom".

"Poisonous" is "capable of causing death or illness if taken into the body". Taken into the body, be it breathing it in, or eating something poisonous.

"Venomous" is "capable of injecting venom by means of a bite or sting". Let's ignore the "by means of bite or sting" here. The important thing here is "capable of injecting".

Twitch's W is, at least on Mobafire "Twitch hurls a cask of venom that explodes in an area, adding 1 stack of Deadly Venom, leaving a cloud of toxic gas..." Leaves a cloud of toxic gas". A cloud of toxic gas is a "Poison" and not "Venom", but his W is "Venom Cask".

You get the point. Unless the broken glass cuts your skin and the venom is injected that way, it should be called "Poison Cask".

Edit: u/robizzle89 pointed out that it's not "Venomous Cask", but "Venom Cask", which could mean he's throwing a cask that is filled with venom. STILL! Rito, pls fix.
