Matches in the HGC league are best-of-5.

Each team bans one battleground. Then, the "home" team chooses a battleground for the first game. In the following games of a match, the losing team of the previous game will have the choice for battleground selection or first hero pick in the draft.

Just because there are better characters, don't assume your allies can play them effectively.

Just played a game where someone complained about every pick.

Needed a mage, so someone went Chromie. He complained about Chromie.

We needed a tank, someone picked E.T.C. He complained.

We needed a backline diver who could survive Kharazim and Valla, I went Illidan. That one set him off.

Each time, he insisted that there were superior characters for each role. Sometimes I go Medivh when when we need a sustained damage mage, even though Gul'dan is the superior sustained damage Mage.

As long as your allies cover the roles needed, let them play their characters. force someone off of a comfort pick, everything should be fine.

Oh, and he also went Valeera after I already had backline killer covered, so...

So, let's go through the universes. I'll give at least one example each:

Diablo:

  • Humans (Valla, Nazeebo, ...)
  • Angels (Tyrael, ...)
  • Demons (Diablo, Azmodan, ...)

Starcraft:

  • Terrans (Tychus, Raynor, ...)
  • Zerg (Kerrigan, Zagara, ...)
  • Protoss (Tassadar, ...)

Warcraft:

  • Humans (Varian)
  • Orcs (Thrall)
  • Dwarf (Muradin)
  • Undead (Sylvanas)
  • Night Elf (Tyrande)
  • Tauren (E.T.C.)
  • Gnome (Chromie - debatable, I know. But shapewise, she is a gnome)
  • Troll (Zul'jin)
  • Blood elf (Kael'Thas)

But Draenei are still missing from the picture. We have no prophet Velen (would make a greats support!), no Yrel, not even the broken Akama. Clearly, a gap that is just waiting to be filled.

What if Nova had no AA, but instead used Snipe (with adjusted cooldown/mana/damage) as her primary source of damage. Every shot is a skillshot, making her truly a sniper with a unique play style

I have been a hotslogs user since its conception. I am grateful that Ben decided to build it when he did, during the dark ages of HotS, with a tiny player base and basically no meaningful in game statistics available on anything.

However, even putting the whole ad debacle aside, hotslogs is simply lackluster in its execution. I appreciate how hard it is to build something of this scale and to do it well, but I also know that it can be done a lot better. I got a group of talented people ready to work on this. Also I think now is the time to gather the community support needed to get this off the ground. So let's give it a go.

To get this going as quickly as possible, we will start off with a small set of features that I believe will cover most needs, work on steady data acquisition (we are not gonna wait for an API to be released) and take it from there. While I have thoughts about what those features need to be, I wanna hear from you guys: What hotslogs feature is most important to you? What functionality do you not wanna do without?

I mean, I could understand that some event brawls have to go, and that they take up the space, but I think some cool brawls should stay, for example ARAM maps should be always in Custom Games (Silver City and Braxis), then we have some other cool brawls like Pool Party, it should stay whole Summer IMO there, and when it ends they should make some other version that can always be accessed (less summery)?

I don't think all brawls should be there because space reasons but some should be there for sure, especially ARAM maps and some interesting ones like Pool Party.

Hit GM as an Illidan main - Small Tips on Climbing Hero League

Hello guys,

I don't post that often but I hit GM this morning and I am very excited. Proof and stats:

So looking at these, I realized that I may actually do better as a Diablo main, but Illidan is more fun and requires less brainpower. Anyway, I read this sub a lot and there seems to be a lot of people that I think would benefit from a short write up about tips to climb HL.

General tips: - First and foremost, don't be negative. Negativity doesn't help anyone. Additionally, be prepared to play heroes you don't like if it helps the draft.

  • Second of all, if you cannot defend a push, immediately do something else, eg start pushing another lane or steal camps, so you at least get something out of your opponents' push.

  • It is usually worth dying for an early keep. This stops being the case if there is an objective up/spawning soon or if the other team can get a keep or more from your deaths. On a similar note, there are many times when dying for either multiple heroes or a strong pushing objective is worth it.

  • When dying, either try to waste as much time as possible or deal as much damage as possible without using ultimates (unless the ultimate can get a kill or you are in a team fight.)

  • A lot of people seems to watch replays and tournaments and just assume that the losing side was bad or stupid. This usually isn't the case, particularly in pro games. Try to find out the reasoning behind why the losing side did their action and why it did not work. Additionally, figure out why the winning team won and what they did right.

Illidan Tips: - On a high level, Illidan is in a pretty good spot right now. Try to draft him when the other team has no CC. Also, Illidan is very good at split pushing with hunt and is really good at punishing late game teams as he is very good at pushing early if left alone, ie after winning a team fight. In lane, generally Illidan is either in a solo lane or with at least one support pushing. At some point, if illidan is solo, someone should take over his lane so he can merc. (Timing of this depends on map). Note, I almost always want to draft Illidan on Blackheart's Bay.

  • Always take battered assualt if you can get it off. Battered assault simply increases Illidan's damage potential to an absurb amount. I generally always take it if they have more than 2 melee or if they have heroes that tend to clump together.

  • It is commonly stated that you should try to save your Q and engage with your W if possible. This is not always possible. Additionally, if you can Q to get into a position to proc battered assault, you should almost always do so if it is safe.

  • Illidan wins lane against almost every hero if you are good with him after hitting 7 and taking thirsting blade and can hold his own against most heroes before that. Don't be scared to just W or Q into whoever you are laning against or pop evasion just to trade (If you are winning lane, try to save evasion for tower shots). Notable exceptions are Alarak and Sonya, in which you have to simply be better than them to beat them.

  • Always be counting your opponents' stuns and try to wait for your opponents to use them. If your opponents are good though, at some point, you will have to go in anyway in which case you need to try to dodge their CC and trust your support if you mess up. Additionally, when you go in, try to have enough HP so that if you do get stunned, you live and can then start life stealing. Note that you steal life steal off protected heroes, so if you get battered assault off and varian taunts you and protects himself, you can sometimes end up with more hp than you started off with.

  • When going in, ideally you have a way out, ie friend or foe. Either that, or try to make sure that you can get a kill(s).

  • If you take hunt, if possible, try to make sure that you are in range of your team in case they engage on someone or get engaged upon. If you take meta, you want to either save it to dodge cc/ultimates or to secure kills running away. Note, it is almost never a good idea to take hunt when your team is down in levels as you will probably better need to win a team fight at some point to come back.

  • Always be mindful of things you can dive to. There were many times where i would dive walls, towers, forts, flanking enemies, minions, etc to survive ganks or team fights.

  • Finally, practice finding your limits. People here seem to think feeding is the worst thing ever. Its not. You won't get ever get the fullest potential of a hero until you know the exact line in which you can go in without dying. And yes, at some point you will have to practice in ranked and will probably end up dying a lot (I'd start in TL with a 5 stack first).

Just Got Matched with "The #1 TL GM" in my Gold game and was trolled all game. Blizzard why

"Proof"

So I just got matched with the self-proclaimed "#1 GM in Team League" with me (Gold 1), and my two friends (Gold 2 and Gold 3). He was "On his Smurf because his main is silenced" (Diamond 3) playing with his apparent friend (Silver 4).

We proceeded to get trolled by the Medivh (YourColor)and his friend (will not be named). There's so much wrong with this but honestly, why does the MM system:

1.) Allow Diamonds to queue with Silvers and 2.) Match Golds up with this insane disparity in ranks?

I expect to get some downvotes but honestly, I don't even know where to go to vent this frustration. Hopefully there will be some sort of constructive feedback.

EDIT: He later added me on his "Main" account but it's not on my realm so I cannot confirm. The name did have a capital Yourcolor so perhaps.

EDIT 2: As an additional note, we were trolled harder with some abhorrent bans to which he informed us he "didn't care about bans on his smurf"

it won't gain stacks from corpse spider(neither the jar impact nor spider attack) if it kills the minion, even if the minions were already affected by voodoo ritual. and zombie wall and Naz's auto attack are the same.

First week winners - Any news on the non-ingame prizes?

So it's been almost two days since we got confirmation from both the community and Blizzard that the loot boxes and the legendary skin prizes went out (let's ignore the fact that the EU winners are having some problems) and they also said they need a couple of days for the other prizes - 50 Winners will receive Digital Copies of major Blizzard PC Titles and $250 in Battle.net balance - 10 Winners will receive a 24-inch-tall collectible Illidan Statue - 1 Winner every week will receive a Legendary top-of-the-line PC - Any news on these? Anyone got an e-mail yet? I know there won't be such a buzz as with the loot boxes as not many people have won these, but still I'm just waiting for the coup le grace from someone.

Blind pick should be a thing

Seeing how people have 3 random characters in brawl and come up with somewhat decent compositions (definitely better than QM), this made me want to have a blind pick mode, which would be something between QM and Unranked draft, it will be much faster than drafting (30-60 seconds to pick), no heroes are banned, both sides allowed to have same heroes, and you can no longer blame blizzard for pitting 3 support, xul and abathur vs 1 support, 1 warrior and 3 assassins. Downside is like in draft, you are not guaranteed to play that specific hero you want, but chances are higher than in draft anyway.

Mainly for two reasons:

  1. When your hero levels up, the upper limit of your charge will increase, so basically your talent will become unusable. BUT the icon obvisouly didn't update at the same time. I can't remember how many time when i jump into the enemy crowd and ready to give them a nice claw, and then just found out that the upper limit has just increased.

  2. Even you fix the icon bug, the design of this skill is still quite annoying, because it will change from usable to unusable in a blink second when you level up. I suggest a re-design of this skill, it will grant you one charge once you store a required amount of damage, and this requirement upper limit will not be altered unless you use up your current claw.

I am pretty sure if this is fixed, the popularity of this talent will ris e at least a little bit.

Once captured, mercenaries count as minions for damage multipliers

Random example: Malfurion's level 1 Moonfire talent, Moonburn

Your Moonfire deals 75% bonus damage to Minions

❢ Reward: For every 5 nearby lane Minions killed, increase this damage bonus by 1%. After hitting 25% additional bonus damage, the bonus damage is also applied to Mercenaries and Monsters.

Moonfire damage to captured enemy mercs is affected by the minion damage bonus, not the merc damage bonus (i.e. you don't need to finish the quest to benefit from bonus damage to mercs that have already been captured by the enemy team).

Not sure if there are exceptions; the game is often inconsistent with details (for example, certain root abilities will prevent the rooted hero from being displaced by abilities while other root abilities do not).
