Destiny 2 will NOT suffer from the long gaps between DLC packs and expansions that the first Destiny game experienced, Activision have revealed

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 10:49 AM PDT

Quoted from an article today:

The gaming giant's boss Eric Hirshberg spoke about the content droughts that affected Bungie's first Destiny game during a revealing interview.

He said that Activision got "a lot right" with Destiny but they will make sure they keep up with demand for new content in Destiny 2.

Hirshberg's solution is to pool together a number of internal studios at Activision's disposal for Bungie to use for Destiny 2.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, Hirshberg said: "I have not been happy with the cadence [of new content].

"We got a lot right with Destiny 1, but one of the things we didn't do was keep up with the demand for new content.

"One of the things you'll see post the launch of Destiny 2, is that we have got additional AAA developers from inside the Activision ecosystem working with Bungie on Destiny content, including Vicarious Visions and High Moon.

"That will allow us to keep an even more robust pipeline of content in the ecosystem."

The Activision boss also spoke about the Destiny 2 release schedule, and compared it to another one of the firm's mega series - Call of Duty.

He said the decision to develop a proper sequel, instead of doing regular DLCs and expansions, was a calculated one.

He said: "Destiny 2 is a sequel, a hard reset, and that choice was not a casual decision. It was something we really debated, because if you are in a persistent universe, then obviously people's investment continues to have value in perpetuity. However, it can also become intimidating for new players to join.

"If you have an annual reset like we do with Call of Duty, you run the risk of people not coming back because that investment didn't carry over to the new game.

"But certainly the annual release has been a big contributor to what has kept it fresh for so long.

"We have been able to bring in new ideas in a way that I don't think we would have been able to do if we were still building on a persistent universe that started 10 years ago.

"So what we've found is that there is more than one good way to do it. We have a winning formula on Call of Duty.

"It is too early to tell, but having Destiny 1, followed by three years of expansions, and then hopefully Destiny 2 doing even better, will mean we have another winning formula."

EDIT: Errrrr, Hi Mum, Hi Dad?!

Trickle - The worst modifier ever?

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:19 AM PDT

Does anyone like having Trickle on any activity, do you feel it adds a challenge, making that activity interesting? Or is it just anti-fun, time killing, and the worst modifier ever?

Just curious if ANYONE actually likes Trickle?

[NSFW] Sex, Sexuality, and Romance in Destiny

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 11:33 AM PDT

So, I don't know about the rest of you, but a question that has increasingly occurred to me as the lifespan of Destiny has continued is: what about the rest of our Guardian's (and others') lives? What is there besides shooting things, traveling to different places to shoot things, and preparing to shoot things?

Now, of course, since we are canonically 'the' Guardian, it could be argued that we simply don't have the time for 'other' things. Our home would be our ship, our downtime between killing interplanetary threats maintaining our gear, our closest companion our ghost (more on that later). That's a perfectly good argument. But there are at the very least several hundred Guardians–and not all of them are constantly consumed with god-killing.

As I was writing this post, I realized a great deal of it was simply just questions. I think may be a indication that Bungie really doesn't mean to explore this side of the universe, but I maintain that they are interesting questions nevertheless.

So what's that spare time look like–and more to the point of this specific post, what's romance, sexuality, and sex look like for Guardians, look like for the average person in the 29th century?

Humans

We'll start here, because it's really the only race we have a reference point for.

A good jumping-off point is the physical changes that are described with the coming of the Traveler–the changes that really sparked the post off. In the opening cinematic, human lifespan is explicitly described as "tripled", so we get a basic human lifespan of 200-300 years.

Why is that interesting? Because it raises a great deal of questions regarding what the sexual life of a human looks like. It would probably be too simplistic to say, 'oh, since lifespan is tripled, every stage of human life is correspondingly tripled'. Simply put, I don't think it would work that way–as life expectancy has gone up throughout human history, the point at which we reach sexual maturity: puberty. As the Wikipedia article points out, this is on average around thirteen for both men and women–when the first ejaculation occurs for the former, and when menstruation starts for the latter. Surprisingly (or not, I'm not an expert), the average age of puberty has actually gone down since the 19th century. With no extra information, we can only assume that it has stayed the same for the purposes of Destiny.

However, the point of sexual maturity obviously is not the point at which people start having sex. While the exact number varies, most of the current world seems to agree that the arbitrary number of eighteen is an appropriate time for people to start making informed decisions about who and what they want to do with their bodies.

The traditional cap on the ability to childbear is the point at which women hit menopause, which usually happens about thirty years after puberty–around age fifty. Therefore, most women are fertile and able to bear children for about half of their life, give or take a few years–and it is culturally acceptable to for a bit less. So from 0-20, society says it's not okay to have children, and from 50-80, it's probably no longer possible. Therefore 30/80 = .375, or what we'll call 40% of life.

But we're not dealing with normal lifespans. If we assume puberty is the same, should we also assume that the range of fertility remains the same? Can one bear children for the first third of life, then followed by two hundred years of menopause? Or is the fertile period correspondingly extended with lifespan, to (50/80) = (x/250) ... x =156.25. In the Destiny universe, do female humans stop being able to childbear at fifty, or 150? We do know that there are children and parents, but that's about the extent of it.

Getting past the basics, what does parenting look like in the world of Destiny? Is it still the traditional two-parent, x children household we're used to today? Is it more 'it takes a village' style, where responsibility is shared? What do relationships look like? We marvel now at marriages that go past thirty years–what about ones that go two hundred? Even more basic, is marriage still a thing? Are exclusive, monogamous relationships the norm? How long is the span of parenting? Twenty-five years seems like an okay point to describe as a childrearing period (though I've heard one never really stops being a parent)–how would having a child and taking that time to raise them affect someone's life at different points? What if you and your parents have a baby at around the same time–a child with an uncle the same age as them? Or perhaps even younger, considerably so, than them? What does life look like? After the collapse, are we still in a post-scarcity society, or do people have to work for food? What problems does the last city have, and how does that affect the people living in it?

All of these questions are compounded and magnified by the almost-wholly-unexplained Guardians. All we know about them–all we know about our player characters–is that they are really really good with guns, laugh at death, and literally dance on the corpses of their enemies. Even the Guardians we know slightly more about–actual characters like Cayde, or Eris, or Zavala–seem one-dimensional, laser-focused on the work of perpetuating humanity and The Last City.

Guardians are effectively immortal. They do not age, sustain any lasting injuries or are otherwise rendered incapable by any normal means, up to and including other Guardians. If we had questions about what relationships for normal humans look like, the area surrounding the extracurricular life of Guardians can be summed with, '???'. I mean, returning to the top of this section, can Guardians conceive? Can they have normal relationships? How would the child of a Guardian and a non-Guardian differ from normal, if at all? Are Guardians discouraged from building relationships with non-Guardians, because the non-Guardians will inevitably die? Are there families where the Guardian is the great-great-great of the current generation? Is it okay to have sex with your great-great-great-grandson? Or do Guardians simply not exist beneath the waist, as a side function of being resurrected? Is that part of the process, removing the drive to have sex and have children? There are already ethical issues with the Ghost 'choosing' the Guardian, what if you add in fundamental changes to the sexuality of the resurrected? What does a Guardian remember of their past life? Is it possible for a Guardian to still have living descendants? Eek, what happens if a pregnant Guardian is killed and then resurrected?

And to complicate it even more, Guardians are, by definition, already in a permanent relationship–with their Ghost. It is not something they choose, not something they can escape, and cannot 'get rid of' their Ghost for an extended period of time, unless under a great deal (usually fatal amount) of duress. Therefore, any relationship that the Guardian would have is contextualized by their relationship with their Ghost. Do Ghosts get jealous? Do they have a sexuality? As far as we know, they have full personalities and functions. Why would sexuality be excepted ('because they're robots?' See "Exos", below).

I guess the overarching question is, 'do Guardians still have a sexuality?' Are Guardians attracted to people (of whatever flavor)? Do they want to have sex with people? Do they want to have romantic relationships? Are they allowed? It is not answered by the game.

Awoken

As far as we know, the Awoken are essentially human, but fundamentally changed by a cataclysmic interaction of the Darkness and the Light. We don't know of any physiological changes (besides different skin colors and what may be a more attuned awareness of the Light), so for the purposes of this post, it's best practice to assume their sexual characteristics are essentially unchanged from the human baseline.

Therefore, a lot of the questions surrounding Awoken are in relation to humans. Are interracial relationships okay (for the record, I can't imagine they wouldn't be, but considering how long it took everyone to get on board with different skin tones, I can't imagine what it looks like for actual different races)? Can a human and an awoken have a child? What does that child look like? Are the reproductive organs of Awoken unchanged (again, I can't imagine why they would be, but the question remains)? Does the matriarchy of the Reef change the context of relationships, and does that conflict with the (presumable) patriarchy of the Tower and City? How long do non-Guardian awoken live?

Awoken are definitely different, but I don't know if they're different enough to really warrant the same level of questioning that Exos do ...

Exos

Okay, so Exos are possibly the most complicated question, sexually speaking.

Just a some context. Not all exos are Guardianssource as we also had confirmed in Age of Triumph. Moreover, we also know that, "Exo minds are Human. It is incontrovertible." That same card asks a very important question: "Why does a war machine have emotions? Why should a war machine have awareness? These are not useful traits on the battlefield. Don't flatter yourself. They are not useful. So why should the Exo mind mimic the human architecture so closely?"

Exos have emotions. We can discern this from just the gameplay, but also from the Grimoire. Ergo, Exos must have a sexuality, right? Unless I was correct about the resurrection process removing one's sexuality, how does an Exo's sexuality manifest? How long does a non-guardian exo live? How do they sexually mature? Do they have sexual organs? How does wiping (just for those who might not know, all exos have numbers after their name indicating the number of times they've been wiped (their memory 'reset')–e.g., Cayde-6, Eriana-3, Lakshmi-2, etc.) affect their sexuality?

What does exo sex look like? Can they only have sex with other exos? Can they reproduce? Are there 'children' exos? Or is there a limited number of exos like the limited number of Ghosts, and once they're all gone, they're gone? Are new exos being created? What does an exo look like immediately after they've been wiped? What do and don't they remember?

If they can't have children, how do they integrate themselves into normal society? Clearly, as we saw from Ghost Fragment: Shaxx 1 and 2, they are part of the process of raising children. Are they just like metal uncles and aunts? And if they don't have sex organs, do they still have fulfilling romantic relationships with beings who do?

If exos are created without a sex drive, doesn't that seem incredibly immoral to the human that the exo was created from? Most people consider their sexuality a fundamental part of their being–why would exos be any different?

Exos are certainly the most confusing entities in terms of sexuality in Destiny.

TLW; sexuality in Destiny is confusing and largely unexplored. Bungie probably doesn't want to explore it too deeply. But can Guardians, uhh, 'activate their supers' with someone else?

Finally hit this goal right before the Beta! Bring it on D2!

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:14 AM PDT

http://i.imgur.com/COSLB6a.jpg

I know this isnt a big accomplishment for many but this has been my goal to see this at the end of D1. I now consider myself having completed everything in Destiny! Now the lighthouse is excluded because I'm not that good at PvP but I think I'll be taking this last month to give it a try. I ordered my AoT shirt last week and can't wait for it to get here!

Im so excited to see this progress in my game and I cant wait to continue our adventure in D2. I'll be able to show all this off with those 7 emblems and I'm sure even more ways and I'm so excited.

I hope others are feeling this sense of completion that I am or feeling that their time in D1 was well spent. I have never spent more time playing any one game especially over the course of 3 years and I can't wait for the years to come! It has been a fantastic journey... So far!

Fixed perks on D2 weapons could mean a kiosk rather than another vault.

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 01:58 AM PDT

The plus side of having weapons drop in D2 with fixed perks, we could get legendary weapon kiosks which could hold all the available weapons, if a larger vault isn't possible or no vault exists.

If Bungie do do this, I hope when purchasing you have the option to pay the materials upgrade cost so it is fully levelled when you check it out.

Leveled a Titan from 0 to 40 playing only Defender in Crucible. Learned some things about Crucible along the way.

Posted: 03 Jul 2017 07:05 PM PDT

The Titan in question: Prisha How far I got in the Defender class using just the first mission, Crucible Bounties, and an assload of Supremacy/Clash/Rift/Control matches: Almost there Proof I didn't get help from the Vanguard: Ignore that 50 points of Vanguard rep, that's a friend I made on the journey misinterpreting what I meant when I said 'Crucible only' with him winging a yellow bar in a Eliminate the VIP public event

Things I learned:

Hand cannons, even crap ones with no perks, are much better than I thought.

Slow-firing Scout Rifles need something to help them out or they are hot garbage at basically any range.

People do not understand how Suppressor grenades work, and they really especially do not understand that you can bank them off walls.

Everyone challenges a bubble Titan until they see TWO of their teammates get punched to death in my sphere of Purple Perdition.

Not getting a heavy weapon until you hit level 10 sucks a lot. On the plus side, no hope of getting heavy makes the decision about what to do when heavy rolls around super easy.

You get accused of being a cheater, a LOT, because leveling up resets all your cooldowns, so there were some matches where I got a bubble every two minutes, and I could practically give away complimentary magnetic grenades whenever I rounded a corner.

Getting a Triple Down without a heavy or a damaging super is difficult, but not impossible. Especially when a cluster of three enemies fails to understand how Suppressor banks work, and you can gun them down when they scatter like roaches in a suddenly much brighter room.

I love the Cauldron and I hate Anomaly.

So anyway, now that I've hit 40, time to sashay my way to Mercury. Anyone want to help with Trials of Osiris? Pretty please?

Don't forget to do the Nightfall before Iron Banner goes live!

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 02:44 AM PDT

Most people are aware of this, but for those that aren't, and with the final Iron Banner fast approaching next month be sure to complete the Nightfall to get the Nightfall buff (+25% to rep/xp) as it counts towards Iron Banner rep when you win, reducing the amount of games you have to win, well by 25% I guess!

Now go out there and get that Rank 5, Guardians!

EDIT: Made my point a little clearer!

Exodus black, Malahayati, and the AI on Nessus, Failsafe (x-post from r/DestinyLore)

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 06:10 AM PDT

I'm going to hit a few points about Nessus, Exodus Black, and Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 4. Most of it will be speculative, of course, but not all.

I'm going to start with attempting to debunk the popular theory that the AI Malahayati is the speaker in Old Russia 4. The root of the theory is the opening line, which states (emphasis mine):

I can feel the mites buzzing, pushing against my sub-mind

Since Mala is referred to as a "submind" of Rasputin in Old Russia 3, the natural assumption is that they are one in the same. But read that line again: my sub-mind. Meaning, a sub-mind of the entity speaking in the card. Mala is a sub-mind of Rasputin, so it would therefore mean that he was the one speaking in the card if the word 'sub-mind' there meant Mala. It obviously isn't him, so my conclusion is that the one speaking in the card is a colony ship AI.

If that is not enough, consider a few lines lower (again, emphasis mine):

Where once my cargo holds were full of tools, and weapons, and material

Only the actual ship AI would use that syntax. Unless Mala was a colony ship AI all along (which would not make sense in the context of Old Russia 3, much less the historical origin of her name), again, that's not the identity of the speaker.

Similarly, the colony ship AI's are confirmed to be the ones who call Rasputin "the Tyrant", as does the speaker of Old Russia 4. They may be one and the same... realistically, there's no reason why the colony ship AI speaking in Old Russia 4 can't be the same one General Lanshu is thinking about in Old Russia 3.

In fact (here goes the speculation part) I think that's precisely the case. Why would General Lanshu be talking to some ship AI personally unless that one happened to be particularly important? And who is this "important" AI?

Failsafe, the AI we encounter on Nessus in D2.

You may ask, well, why are they on Nessus? There's a good discussion about Eris and Nessus in this thread so I will refer you there instead of adding further to this wall of text, oh reader mine.

u/KFC_Just is entirely correct that Nessus and Eris are not remotely close to one another, and Nessus could not plausibly be the destination specified in Old Russia 4. However, all available information points to a colony ship having crashed on Nessus. Meaning, it was not necessarily it's intended destination and therefore the relative location of Eris and Nessus is arguably moot.

Conclusion: Failsafe was a colony ship AI of particular importance, entrusted with taking some SIVA to the edge of the system. As it's name implies, it seems to have been one of Rasputin's backup plans in case everything went all to hell, which of course it did. For reasons unknown, it crashed on Nessus. Failsafe does refer to Nessus as "my planet", so it's likely that SIVA started taking over a bunch of stuff, as it is wont to do, and did all kinds of SIVA business that we are presumably going to find out about later.

Whether the crash is related to Nessus' "disappearance" from the system as mentioned in the Cayde-6 card or something that occurred during the collapse, or if those are the same thing, is currently unanswerable, but we do know that there's a colony ship and SIVA on Nessus, only one Exodus colony ship supposedly got off-world, and it just happened to be carrying SIVA, so...

TL;DR: Malahayati is not the AI in GF: Old Russia 4. It's told from the perspective of a colony ship AI, Failsafe, who we are about to meet in D2.

Artifact Stat Rolls from Tyra Karn (Weekly Reset 2017-07-04)

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 02:07 AM PDT

Memory of Gheleon: 69 Discipline, (hidden Intellect Bonus).

  • 91% overall and 78% out of the maximum possible for INT/Dis Artifacts. Elemental Perk: Orbs on precise Arc kills

Memory of Skorri: 33 Intellect, 31 Strength.

  • 84% overall. Elemental Perk: Orbs on precise Arc kills.

Memory of Radegast: 34 Discipline, 35 Strength.

  • 91% overall. Elemental Perk: Orbs on Arc melee kills.

So, which Artifact does what?

  • Memory of Felwinter: Removes your Super ability but greatly increases your Disciplin & Strength stats.Orbs now regenerate grenade and melee ability.

  • Memory of Gheleon: Gain detailled radar and radar persists when aiming down your primary weapon (Third Eye perk).

  • Memory of Jolder: Removes Sprint cooldown entirely.

  • Memory of Perun: Highlights enemy Guardians with fully-charged Super abilities in yellow and all enemies with low health in red.

  • Memory of Radegast: Gain the ability to reflect energy based projectiles (Supers e.g.) with your sword. Gain more ammunition for your sword as well.

  • Memory of Silimar: Greatly increases resistance against damage over time (DoT's) effects in the Crucible.

  • Memory of Skorri: When your Super is full, each kill will allow nearby teammates Supers to charge faster for one minute.

  • Memory of Timur: Temporarily turns enemy PvE combatants into friendlies when they are melee attacked.

Personal Opinion: hmm, I'm not amused...

Recommended Picks: Actually no recommended pick this time around.

A perfect roll would look like this:

  • A Int/Dis Artifact: 38/51.

  • A Int/Str or Dis/Str Artifact: 38/38.

The Bonus Points added are 43 at LL 400 for every Artifact.
