True Dota 2 - I don't mean to offend literally the entire subreddit. But where can I go to find quality information that is from reputable sources on DOTA strategy and meta.

Due to the fact that this is, in fact, reddit, it is impossible to know the mmr, general skill, or knowledge level of anyone that responds to question here. I was hoping I could be pointed to a spot where (hopefully without paying) I could find a forum type site that somehow verifies the mmr or skill levels of players that respond to questions.

Chaos Knight, his counters, and overall viability

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:19 AM PDT

I'll start off with the credentials: 2.2k player, dotabuff. I've been playing some chaos knight recently, and I've had great success. I've always played him as a situational pick, particularly when the enemy team doesn't have any area damage (a common sight at my level). I also avoid playing him against OD, Invoker, and PL; theoretically against Naga too, but in my 1000 matches I've played against exactly 2. Lately though I've started to get a little more adventurous. I've picked him against Earth Shaker, Sand King, and Sven, and even they can't seem to stop me--once I have 4 items: armlet, echo sabre, manta, and heart. By that point I am just too tanky and my damage comes too quickly. Someone runs a YouTube channel that pulls matches that the OG players win, and I've seen an awful lot of Chaos Knight games played by N0tail, likewise against traditional counters. He still wins, and often smashes the enemy team. My point here is that my experience isn't simply a result of likewise incompetent players, it still happens at very high levels of dota.

Lategame it seems that CK's traditional counters suffer from the same problem: his damage is too fast. If you reality rift your counter, they simply die before they can use their countering abilities. Even Sven dies too fast, especially if he's hit by a chaos bolt. The only hero I've seen be able to stand up to CK in a straight on fight is Medusa, and that's because of stone gaze and her new (gimmicky) aghs.

So is N0tail onto something here? Do we need to rethink the viability of CK as a whole? Sure he farms very slowly, but he makes up for that in sheer solokill potential with Phantasm, even at level 1. I always finish the landing stage with treads and armlet, and that's all I need to start picking people off with phantasm. Furthermore, do CK's traditional counters fall away when he is six slotted? Can we start thinking of CK as lategame insurance?

How's support alch this patch?

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 09:26 AM PDT

I haven't seen it in awhile, he got a lot of nerfs, but he is a good hero to defend towers, pick up the bounty runes, if you have a stun in lane his follow up stun can be incredible, even on it's own. He can help farm stacks with spray and tanking the damage. I figure he's a good aura carrier since he's so tanky, plus I think atos would be a great item on him. Also he would be great to pair with sven, DS, magnus.

Anyone having any luck with him this patch?

[Scientific survey] What do you need or want when watching esports? Please help to make esports an even greater experience.

Esports Spectator Motivation

We need your support on a current research project examining the needs and motivations of esports spectators.

With esports becoming more popular every day the number of esports providers and streamers is steadily increasing. And therefore, esports has also moved into the focus of researchers and scientists.

But what is still lacking in scientific research is asking the esports spectators what they really want and what they really need when watching esports.

This study is trying to change that. So instead of asking more expert groups what they think would be best for you, we choose the ask the real experts: YOU! The esports spectators themselves. Follow the link below and help us to understand what you really need and want when watching esports.

https://www.unipark.de/uc/esports_motivation/

The survey will only take about 10 min. max and you will help to improve making esports an even greater experience. In addition, this will help to make esports more visible in research and society and therefore help esports in general to be accepted as sport.

The data collected will be anonymized and used exclusively for research purpose.

Thank you very much!

What the hell happened to DotA 2 community over the years???

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 12:00 PM PDT

Hey guys and girls,

First, let me introduce myself a bit. I an oldschool dota player, who started playing DotA 1 back in 2005 or so (I was 11 back then, I am 25 now) and stopped playing at all around 2013. When I was a kid I was pretty good at DotA, we even won a national cup back in 2009~ (dota.sk for the oldtimers, pretty amateur shit back then but still) About a half year ago some of my friends persuaded me to install the game again and play with them from time to time. However I forgot my old account info so I had to create a new one.

Well recently I got to the TBD point of the game. Some games were good, some where bad, I ended up on 2980 mmr. Afair I had around 3500 when I stopped playing but nevermind, I thought I can win it back ez.

Friends I play with have both around my old mmr (3500~3700) so party games are pretty decent quality most of the time. As we always play 3 and more it's alright even if there are idiots in team.

However today I played some solo games on these 2900-2800 solo mmr and I gotta say I am more than disguisted what the fuck happened to DotA 2 .

I shit you not guys, in my last 10 solo games, 8 of them had a guy who fed and abandoned and all 10 of them where full of totally retarded flame from at least 3 people in team from literally minute 0, where overall they wrote twice more than they actually played.

Don't get me wrong, I do not have a preferable role in DotA, I am trying to be an universal player so I always wait for lastpick if possible and take what the team needs. I can hardsupp easily while stacking camps and usually I have decent farm even though I supp whole game solo. If I play carry, I always have 600+ gpm/xpm even if we loose. (These are my party games)

But seriously no matter what I did, what I played, what score I had, how much I ganked n shit, there is always completely trashy flame in every single solo game I play (not saying on me but still), followed by some throwing and abandon.

Let me remind you that this were 2900~ mmr games, which I thought should have at least a bit of decency in them. But what i found disguisted me so much that I won't play solo games anymore at all and I'll only occasionally join friends to play a game.

So for all of you 3000~ and less mmr players, remember this:

  1. Flame demotivates others to win and the more you flame be bigger chance you loose.

  2. Everyone initially do the best they can even though it may not seem like it. I guarantee you that demotivated we all play twice worse than motivated.

  3. Team play is the road to win. Solo farm forest when opponents are obviously winning is condemning your whole team to loose. In nowdays dota you gotta group up and gank them as 5 few times to catch on net worth, that's the only way if you're seriously loosing (like 26:8 in 20. minute let's say)

  4. If you really want to be pro player, learn to play support and core heroes well first. Then carry is ez.

  5. Everyone who calls others "trash" "noob" "retard" etc. is nothing but mirroring himself. Remember this before you write something to others again.

  6. When you die a lot, don't blame others. Rather think of different tactic on how to approach the match.

  7. The only difference in skill between 3700 average mmr games and 2700 avg. mmr games is the teamplay capability.

  8. Think before you pick. (!!!!!!!)

  9. Don't insult others, rather motivate them when they die a lot if you really want to be a winner in most games.

  10. Watch minimap every few seconds, grow this habit as much as you can.

If you really wanna ever get out of shit tier mmr, these should be your 10 commandments.

GL&HF, even though the having fun part seem to died in solo games, at least in my eyes.
