I pre-ordered Destiny 2 on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store or Blizzard Shop. How do I receive Beta access?

If you pre-ordered directly on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One you are already automatically enrolled in the Beta.

Quote from Bungie:

You will automatically receive beta access on the first-party store account that you pre-ordered with when the Beta launches.

I pre-ordered at a participating retailer and received a Destiny 2 Beta Redemption code. Where do I redeem my code?

Edit: You can now start your pre-loading of the Destiny 2 Beta. See next question for how to do that.

Go to https://Bungie.net/redeem and follow the instructions on the page. You will be required to log in with a valid Bungie.net account, verify your accessible email address, and enter your Destiny 2 Beta redemption code. At a later date, you will be contacted via your verified email address when you can return to the Bungie.net site and retrieve your Destiny 2 Beta download code. Codes may only be redeemed once, and redemption cannot be transferred or recovered to another account.

When will I get the Beta code to redeem on my console?

You can do that now. Please see this comment for instructions on how to redeem the code and start downloading and installing the Destiny 2 Beta.

Where do I redeem my PC beta code? Bungie.net only takes console accounts!!

Bungie.net now allows Blizzard account linking with their site. You may now create a Bungie account linked to Battle.net, which should allow you to redeem your PC Beta Code. Please see THIS ARTICLE for information on how to properly link your account.

Is a Playstation Plus or Xbox Live subscription needed for the Beta?

NO! Players are not required to have an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Subscription to engage with the Destiny 2 Beta. It will however be needed for the actual game release for most activities.

I have a question not listed here. What do I do?

  1. Check the Bungie FAQ
  2. Check the comments in this thread. If you don't find your question, make a new comment and ask it.

Beta Known Issues:

As this is a Beta build, some issues will be present and may impact gameplay. Please note the following:

Networking

  • Players may experience a variety of networking error codes when attempting to play the Beta
  • Bungie will be testing server stability throughout the Beta, which may cause error codes to appear periodically

Crucible

  • Location names sometimes do not appear during Crucible gameplay
  • Players sometimes are Kicked to Orbit after witnessing a black screen when entering a Countdown match

Strike

  • Players may sometimes be placed at the beginning of the Inverted Spire Strike Activity when joining in progress

General

  • Sandbox balancing is still taking place: Some weapons or abilities may have higher or lower damage than intended
  • Not all content has been localized in all languages

If you encounter any network related issues during the Destiny 2 Beta, please follow Bungie's Network Troubleshooting Guide to ensure proper network settings for Destiny gameplay.

Reporting an Issue

When encountering an issue, players are advised to post a report to the #Help forum with the following information:

  • PlayStation Network ID or Xbox Live Gamertag
  • Time in which issue occurred
  • Activity in which issue occurred
  • Description of what happened

While players may not receive a response, issues will be forwarded to the appropriate teams for investigation.

D2 Weapon 'Intrinsic' Perks, Mods and Shaders

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 06:10 AM PDT

I attended the Virgin Media D2 Beta Experience this morning in Central London. Got a chance to play through everything a day early which was nice. Game feels awesome and looks great in 4K.

We got to play around with the load outs and of course were able to inspect the weapons and armour to change perks. The interesting bit... Bottom left of the inspect weapon page, below the perk tree, were a line of 3 boxes.

  • Box 1: 'mod' box with a load of empty slots
  • Box 2: 'elemental' box if it was an energy weapon
  • Box 3: 'shader' box with a load of empty slots

These weren't exotic weapons, all legendary, so it seems we will have multiple mods and shaders available for legendary guns.

The weapons also had an 'intrinsic' perk associated with it. So one Better Devils hand cannon could have an intrinsic perk for better all round use, another Better Devils hand cannon could have an intrinsic perk that boosts range.

You'll all be able to see for yourselves tomorrow but thought I'd share a day early.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong on some of this! Didn't have much time, just from memory. And apologies if any of this is already known.

Enjoy Guardians!

Edit: Photos from the event - https://imgur.com/gallery/FxChh

Edit: Here's a photo the the weapon inspection screen - https://imgur.com/gallery/78uS8 (Courtesy of @SBirkhoff_snp on Twitter)

Under where it says 'Weapon Perks' the square light grey box is the intrinsic perk that can role differently. The rest is the fixed weapon tree that will be the same every time. Under where it says 'Weapon Mods' the bottom left black box with yellow is any equipped weapon mods. The white/light grey box with a red stripe through it is the shader slot. If it was an energy weapon the element would show in between these two mod boxes as I mentioned.

Today's Penny Arcade comic regarding Guardians in a world without light...

Found this funny and thought I'd share: https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic

Gabe and Tycho seem to be lapsed Destiny players... Hopefully the sequel pulls them back in so that we can expect more funnies regarding Destiny.

Destiny 2 Massive Breakdown Weapon Stats Spreadsheet - A Call to Arms

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 06:09 AM PDT

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_6zsM7kzvg0aUT8YtM_-Wg_5K1gKDOlrwfVzutEjq-s/edit?usp=sharing

This is what I've got so far. Since I'm an Xbox player, I won't be able to play the beta tomorrow, which means I'll need y'all's help. If you could simply make note of how much damage each gun you play with does at close range in PvP (for crits and body shots) and either message me or comment here, I'll be able to get the blanks filled in that much faster. Please note that the displayed damages in this game are seemingly inconsistent. I've experience multiple times weapons doing one extra damage on a random shot or burst, even when other shots from the same distance don't do that amount (for example Nightshade doing 22 per crit instead of 21 for one random burst, or SMGs in the 900 RoF archetype doing 11 per body once when all other shots from the same distance are hitting for 10), so try to make sure the numbers you pass on to me have occurred multiple times. I'm unsure if this is due to a perk that I could not see activating, or something else, but it's just something to be aware of.

Most of the listed RoF's in the tool-tips seem to be correct and fit with existing weapon archetypes, but if you could film clips of you firing each gun at a wall as fast as possible (please do three full magazines, so I can have a large enough sample size to eliminate errors) it would also help me confirm them.

Third thing I need will be screenshots of each weapons tool-tip (like these examples). I need these so I can measure the lengths of each stat bar to provide comparative numbers until the D2 API comes up and I can get actual numbers from the DB.

On to the spreadsheet, and what I have so far. Basically, I've examined as much gameplay as I could from the DRE, E3, and IGN reveals to gather info on the weapons we've seen so far. I'm doing this on the (possibly incorrect) assumption that the beta will be a similar build to the DRE and E3 examples, and thus may have the same weapons available. All numerical stats besides damage come from measuring the length of each stat bar in pixels, and then displaying the percentage of the stat bar that is filled. RoF numbers come mostly from the displayed RoF in-game, but I have also counted frames for some weapons (like Riskrunner and Sweet Business) to verify correct values. Times-to-kill that are displayed are assuming a Guardian has 200 health total, which is roughly equivalent to 9 armor. In some cases (particularly for low damage weapons) one or two extra shots may be needed to kill due to rounding errors in the way damage numbers are displayed. I will do my best to discover which of these weapons need more shots than are listed and will correct the values as I can.

The reason I'm again using 200 health for the TtK calculations is that I measured the length of shield and health bars in the videos we've seen, and calculated what percentage was taken away when set amounts of damage were done. It appears to me that all Guardians have 70 health (the red bar) and between 116 and 131 shield (the white bar). 116 was at 0 armor, 126 was at 5 armor, 128 was at 7 armor, and 131 was at 10 armor. This is basically the same as what we currently have in D1. There was one instance where it seemed like Luminosity killed a 10 armor Titan with three headshots from an Adaptive archetype HC (189 damage total) but when I examined the footage frame by frame I found that the Titan was actually hit in the body by a shot from one of Lumi's teammates, which put enough extra damage on him so that it seemed like he was three-tapped.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. Likewise, if you see any numbers you think are wrong, you can mention them to me here or in a DM. Thanks in advance for all the help!

New Bungie Podcast! - 17 July 2017

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 10:05 AM PDT

tl;dl (Graciously provided by u/WalkerDontRunner):

•(4:54) The progression of the Black Spindle mission and how it inspired loadout consideration and planning. The mission was inspired by Mile High Club from CoD modern warfare.

•(10:08) Reinforced parts of the 'carry culture' where people would seek help and give help. How carrying creates an alliance/community even if just for a night.

•(11:35) Mark's relationship with Destiny and co-workers (Pretty funny anecdote).

•(14:10) Locked loadouts. How they will force the players even more-so to consider their loadouts and pre-plan again or 'pack for the trip'. It was mentioned that it felt freeing once you're in the mission to not swap anything and focus on the misison. Also that it can create a sense of hyper-awareness of every perk, etc. selected. Locked loadouts will be applied to some of the weekly rituals, none specified.

•(16:55) Mark on specialization and how locked loadouts can enforce roles among groups.

•(17:25) Noob Titans will block your rockets with their wall causing you to kill yourself.

•(21:16) They are essentially finished with the 'build' and are now starting to focus on bugs, language related issues, etc.

•Minimal activities in beta for emphasis on player discovery upon release. But enough to test their systems.

•(27:50) Beta is a 'test' for systems, but also testing Bungie's internal processes, INCLUDING closing and launching a game properly. Also PvP balancing, duh.

•(37:40) Destiny 2 reset day has been confirmed to be on Tuesdays. (credit: u/miloshk)

•(38:55) Chipotle life-hack.

A Clutch Trials Play That Would Make Saint-14 Proud

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 09:49 AM PDT

"The odds were against him. His fellow guardians down. Three guardians with heavy ammo, closely guarding the cap point. Time running out. This guardian put all his faith in the Light and leaped toward his enemies..."

At least, that's what I imagine the Grimoire for this play will someday read like. Great way to send off my last Trials run as a Defender. Enjoy!

Bungie's Lars Bekken on Crucible changes: 'People internally were asking why would you change this?'

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 04:56 AM PDT

Destiny 2 Crucible design lead Lars Bakken speaking about Crucible changes. A couple of choice quotes below, full interview on link underneath.

"There's a lot of people that internally were like 'why would you change this thing that people obviously enjoy' and the answer is it's not as good as it could have been."

"when you need to make a change, sometimes there are bones that needed to be broken and that can be painful but if it's the best thing for the experience"

"Even though we created something that you know millions of people loved, I was never happy with what we created"

A MASSIVE thank you to the good Samaritan who capped off my Destiny 1 career with a trip to the Lighthouse.

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 02:15 AM PDT

YEEEEEEEEES! NSFW: Some excited swearing haha

OK, I know these posts appear regularly and never though I would actually be writing one. I came to PVP late but love it. I'm a Titan main so will punch everything (Picture a wasp stinging a brick, you get the idea) and as such missed the mythical days of playing a card with the possibility of matching against random teams just starting their cards for the full 9 rounds and an easy trip to the LH.

I've tried with my clan, randoms, carries from streamers and sherpas, who have all been very, very kind and super helpful but for one reason or another got as far as 8-0. I just want to big up everyone who has helped me so far, your time and experience has been very much appreciated and I thank you for it.

However, after commenting on a similar post to this one last week I had a reply from /u/ANSIFlange saying:

"Playing on PS4 by chance? If you're chill I will try my best to help, not a trails god by any means but always fun helping out. "

Love playing with new people so set up a run for the coming Friday. We get on and get sorted with a friend of his and spawn down. 1st 5 games cruise by, i'm getting kills, we're winning, its all good. Hit game 5 and finally meet some Gods, we had a 3% chance of winning and I think that may have been kind (Big up for Guardian.gg, see you in D2). Stomped 5-0. At no point did the guys sound bothered or stressed. It was the least salty round of trials I have ever played all down to these amazing, selfless chaps.

The next few games go past without real incident and we are 8-0. My arse starts to twitch like a bunnies nose, I've been here before! Could this be the game? I dared to dream and we set off. The game was close and a bit weird, the other team had 2 bubble bros, 1 popped his on the heavy round but we took them out anyway, they won the next taking it to 4-4. Rubber big boy pants time!

You can see the last round and muted commentary in the vid (I have 2 kids under 5 asleep so did not want to enrage the wife by waking them up, she's put up with enough talk of the lighthouse and is also very very thankful to /u/ANSIFlange and Crev (the other awesome dude). I do my best though lol)

These guys tried and succeeded in helping someone out who really, really wanted to get to the lighthouse before D2. They came out of the blue and sacrificed their time and skills for which I am forever thankful. I hope others in the community who haven't been to the LH yet get to experience it, it was amazing (although, I didn't get the cut scene which would have been nice). Thanks chaps.

tl;dr: Random encounter leads to a kick ass experience which ends with me getting to the Lighthouse for the 1st time. Totally Awesome

Edit (linking user correctly as I'm a dumbass)

WOW, Front page, obligatory "Hi Mam" and happy birthday to the one, the only, /u/norsefenrir

Favorite Flavor Text?

Posted: 17 Jul 2017 09:40 AM PDT

So with the flavor text post that went around a couple days ago, I got kinda curious: what's everyone's favorite bit of flavor text? This game has some really great bits of flavor text in it. Me personally, I can narrow it down to three:

Steel Atreus: "Someday we'll dance our little dance to the end, but not today...not today."

Ruin Wings: "In the Garden grows a tree of silver wings. The leaves are ruin, the bark disaster. Of the seeds we do not speak."

Mark of the Six Fronts: "Four orders of Titans held six approaches in the first great battle around the Last City, and not one front broke."

And to be honest that's leaving out a ton of other great picks. Which is exactly why I'm asking this. Lay your favorite flavor text's on me, DTG.
