| Civ 6 still feels incredibly unfinished Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:14 AM PDT So I picked up Civ6 at launch like a potato, having apparently learned nothing from the civ5 launch. I struggled to get into it and figured I'd give the game a while to get patched up and maybe see some DLC releases. Anyway these last two days I've been trying it out again and I'm still incredibly frustrated by the state of the game. Rant follows: -AIs are as nutty as ever, meeting me and denouncing me literally the following turn. -My allies can attack my city states seemingly free of reprisal, and my only way to defend them is to launch a protectorate war? -The UI is still garbade. Why are there not hotkeys for all unit actions? Do I seriously need to select every unit and manually click on ALERT of all things? Is there no alert hotkey? No fortify until healed hotkey? WHY IS THIS STILL MISSING FROM THE GAME? -Why can't I select unit promotions while a unit is fortified, sleeping, alert, etc? Why do I need to wake them up first? -Why is so much city information still hidden in awkward extra menus? It's so hard to get into micromanaging cities when so much clicking is required... -The AI is still 100% dumber than rocks. I know a lot of people like 1 UPT but the AI simply CANNOT handle it. There's no "tactics" with 1UPT. You're beating a dog in checkers with this system. No great strategy feels satisfying when the AI is so utterly incompetent. The AI will suicide its entire army into you one at a time. -The religion game is so horribly micro-intensive. It's fine early game, but come late game I can't be bothered to micro every single missionary/inquisitor individually, especially when carpets of AI units continually block their paths. -Carpets of AI apostles cause hilarious traffic jams in your territory. And heaven help you if you make the mistake of allowing an AI open borders. Your units will never have a free space again. -Tile improvement system feels incredibly weak. Farms and mines, and then unique resource improvements? No cottages, windmills, watermills, or great people buildings? -The air combat system is actually pretty well implemented, but I don't think I've ever seen the AI build a single plane. Again, not that they would use them well anyway, but like a navy they just don't even bother. I dunno. Some of these are clearly design decisions that were made regarding the game. And others just feel like the result of a rushed mess. I get attacked by swordsmen in the modern era and then when I get to the other guy's capital, it's because he has unimproved iron/niter just sitting there. I play at Monarch in civ4 and I feel like I need to play on immortal or deity to have a challenge in civ6. And it's not like I've magically gotten better. The AI is just dumb as hell. I've got like 2k hours in civ4 and almost 1k in 5. I'm not even past 30 in civ6 so far and after my very first game I haven't been able to finish one T_T. There's so much potential. So many fascinating ideas that just feel half-assed. It feels like BE in a way. You see all these cool systems and you can tell what they were going for, but the implementation is just awful and frustrating. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 04 Jul 2017 10:37 PM PDT I founded a religion. On the same turn, I purchased a Missionary. I immediately sent that Missionary on a bee-line for the nearest Kongo city (and they happened to be my nearest neighbor). Before the missionary arrived, Nzinga pops up on my screen pouting about my lack of conviction. It was literally physically impossible to get you the religion any faster, you impatient jackass. I don't mind the AI having their own agendas (with a few exceptions), but it feels like they are tuned way too sensitive and impatient. I shouldn't be losing relationship with them when I am moving as fast as physically possible. I even tried to get him the religion before I spread it to my own cities! Is there a mod that just turns it down a little? I don't want to eliminate it, or drastically alter it. Just tone it down to a reasonable level. [link] [comments] | ||
| A Civ of Ice and Fire...Winter is Coming to Civ. Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:49 PM PDT Hello everyone! My new Civilization VI mod, A Civ of Ice and Fire is out now on the Steam Workshop, it is a Game of Thrones themed mod for Civilization VI and includes new leaders, new city-states, new religions, new continents, and new maps! Eventually I plan to add more leaders and civs, more maps, as well as scenarios so that you can relive your favorite moments from the series! Before anyone asks, custom models aren't a thing yet, so no, the dragon is not actually a dragon, but it will be eventually!

| my idea for a Venice civ in civ6 Posted: 05 Jul 2017 04:34 PM PDT it's only a base but here we go: always starts on an island or ocean coast can build districts on water, but must be connected to another district they get the Japanese district adjacency bonus but boosted i'm not sure who to have as leader or what unique unit/building/ improvement. | Please change the denounce spamming from AI Posted: 05 Jul 2017 02:57 AM PDT I can't be the only one tired of that. I think denouncing should be reserved by the AI only when they're about to declare a war. And only then. Not because I went against their agenda, not because I did something they don't like, but because I did something they don't like AND they're gonna do something about it. A subtle difference, I'm sure you'll agree. And besides, if I've destroyed a civilization to the point where they are reduced to a single city in the middle of a desert, why would I or anyone care about their words? Sorry if this has been said before, really wanted to vent a bit. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 05 Jul 2017 02:28 PM PDT I'm playing as Australia in my current game. There is a lone barbarian outpost near my city that keeps pumping out horsemen and horse archers. I'm not able to make troops fast enough and I'm getting overrun. What is a good strategy to holding off barbarians in the early game while still being able to expand? [link] [comments] | ||
| Making peace with city states immediately after AI civ's DOW. Bug or working as intended? Posted: 05 Jul 2017 01:31 PM PDT I noticed that I can make peace with city states aligned with enemy civs almost immediately after they declare war. I don't mind this "feature" because it's obviously advantageous to me, but it doesn't make sense... Is it supposed to function that way? What's the point of being a suzerain to a city state if your enemy can just make peace with them right away? I've never seen the AI take advantage of this, but again, just seems like a broken feature. Haven't tested it in multiplayer yet, but I imagine it may function the same way. [link] [comments] | ||
| Alpha Centauri versus Beyond Earth Posted: 05 Jul 2017 09:56 AM PDT Hey everyone! I a long-time lover of the Civ series but ran out of time to play regularly a few years back. I played everything from Civ I - Civ V:BtS and enjoyed it a lot. I dabbled briefly in Alpha Centauri but never dug in very deeply. Now I see that there is Beyond Earth, though it is (overall) rated a little lower than other Civ games. In a nutshell, what are your thoughts on these two titles? Pros? Cons? Comparisons? Opinions? | Civ 6 Crashes after 'Firaxis Crash Reporter' Screen, Worked fine before. Any help? Posted: 05 Jul 2017 06:05 PM PDT I have a GTX1060 and i5-6500k processor (although I don't see how that would matter). I was playing a game of Civ 6 and it randomly crashed after I pressed end turn. I wasn't that upset because my game just started and I didn't really like how it was going. Anyways this happened one time a while back and I just restarted and it worked fine so I wasn't stressing it. I go to relaunch the game, and the "Firaxis Crash Reporter" screen pops up. Whether I press send report, don't send, or even if I press nothing at all, the game crashes seconds later. I did not know what to do, so I looked it up online and I disabled Windows Defender and I even resinstalled the game but it keeps doing the same thing. I don't know what to do. If anyone has any help or ideas, please comment. TL;DR Game keeps crashing after Crash Report Screen. Reinstalled/Disabled Windows Defender. Any help? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:17 PM PDT I just picked up Civ 5 and all expiation packs on steam for 12 bucks cause it was 95% off (thanks Gabe). However, I'm kinda disappointed so far; doesn't seem like there's much to do. How long do I give it till it gets interesting? Or am I forgetting something? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:12 PM PDT What would happen if you were able to fill up literally every tile in the game with a unit then build another unit? Where would it go? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 05 Jul 2017 02:34 PM PDT This is my first match. Its one of those tutorial matches. The top one. I killed the enemy (atztec). Im in control of my capital and his (and all other of his cities) and all I destroyed all City-States and took their city. I killed every single Barbarian on the map and destroyed their camps. And I searched the whole map. There is nothing more. But I dont win. Its still going. Whats up with that? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:46 AM PDT So I drunkenly challenged a cousin to a civ 5 2v2 and he is bringing his deity level friend as his second. My chosen friend is playing Iroquois what should I pick as a strong early game civ. A range of civs is preferable as we are playing no duplicate civs. Standard settings and Pangaea type map I will be unable to answer immediately but can view suggestions tomorrow morning! | Someone pls help with linking my 2k account Posted: 05 Jul 2017 02:16 PM PDT I bought the game yesterday and it said to link a 2k account so I made a 2k account and when I try to verify the account, it says to enter a password, confirm it, then enter a username. I do that and hit the button and I get this error: "Sorry, but we are unable to accept your registration at this time. For more information, please view our Privacy Policy." [link] [comments] |
