Nintendo's E3 Spotlight begins June 13th at 9AM PT / 12PM ET Melee Mario

Twitch Stream | YouTube Stream Brawl Mario

Schedule Sm4sh Mario

2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational – Tuesday, June 13, Approximately 2:30 p.m. PT Gunner

For the first time ever, competitors from four different global regions will compete for world dominance in Splatoon 2. The four four-person teams – "Deadbeat" from the United States, "Dynameu" from Japan, "Rising Moon" from Europe and "Blue Ringed Octolings" from Australia/New Zealand – defeated their rivals in local tournaments that occurred in recent months.

During the show in Los Angeles, teams will battle in a round-robin Turf War tournament that will decide seeding for the next round. All teams will play one another and get a chance to scope out their opponents' strengths and weaknesses. In the next round, teams will battle in the game's Ranked Battle modes. The semifinal stage will be a best-of-five battle, while the championship will be best-of-seven.

The winning team of the live-streamed tournament will win global bragging rights and will have their names engraved on a sweet Splatoon 2 trophy. Announcers for the Splatoon 2 tournament will be avid Splatoon player, Nintendo fan, athlete and broadcaster Jordan Kent, Ashley Esqueda of CNET and the Nintendo Treehouse's Eric Smith.

To help kids and squids get the most out of all the tournament action, prior to E3 Nintendo will release video content highlighting the tactics, strategies and storylines behind competitive Splatoon play.

2017 ARMS Open Invitational – Wednesday, June 14, Approximately 3:30 p.m. PT Little Mac

This live-streamed ARMS competition will pit four expert competitive gamers from the fighting game community against E3 attendees who qualify during the event. E3 attendees can visit the Nintendo booth between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT on Wednesday, June 14, for a chance to win a spot in the finals. The top four competitors will be selected to face off against four pro competitive gamers.

The eight tournament participants will do battle until a champion emerges to win the coveted 2017 ARMS Open Invitational championship belt. Announcers for the tourney include Super Smash Bros. broadcasters D1 and VikkiKitty. The participating pro players are Alex Valle of Street Fighter fame; Kelsy Medeiros, aka SuperGirlKels, a professional Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player hailing from Canada; acclaimed Super Smash Bros. player Daniel "Tafokints" Lee; and French Super Smash Bros. player Marie-Laure "Kayane" Norindr, one of the world's most decorated professional female fighting game players in history.

2017 Pokkén Tournament DX Invitational - Wednesday, June 14, Approximately 10:30 a.m. PT Pikachu

The first person in each crew must choose one of the new characters; the other person can choose one of the original characters. Winners will each receive a Pokkén Tournament DX art piece signed by Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, and members of the development team. Casters: Jordan Kent, D1 and VikkiKitty

Dashback is to Melee as Tripping is to Brawl

Full rant: https://twitter.com/PracticalTAS/status/874440590804615168

tl;dr: My response to the whole "frankenstein controller" issue that's come up recently is that modding controllers is backwards, inefficient, and cheat-friendly. Instead, if you're going to make changes, mod the game.

Something really cool just happened in For Glory

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 09:17 AM PDT

So last night I turn on my DS and randomly decided I wanted to start playing through the entire character roster in order.

The very first game was a Mario ditto, which I thought nothing of seeing as Mario is a pretty commonly used character. But then the next game we both chose Luigi. Then Peach, Bowser, Yoshi....

Next thing you know this complete stranger and I had spent 2+ hours playing dittos all the way through the entire roster from Mario to Bayonetta. I have been playing this game since release and never had something like that happen before.

Sorry if this is not the right sub for this. I just thought it was a neat experience and wanted to share.

A healthy critique of the 2GGC Circuit measuring system

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:45 AM PDT

I wanna discuss something about the criteria that doesnt make a lot of sense to me, logistically

For defeating:

Scizor, Ezrael, Fatality, Dabuz, Javi, 6WX, Zenyou, Tweek and Void to finish 2nd at Genesis Saga

Jtails, Zinoto, Rich Brown and Ned to finish 3rd at Midwest Saga

And JK, Phoenix, Captain Zack, Locus, Tweek and ANTi to finish 3rd at Greninja Saga,

Komorikiri amassed 128 Circuit points. A 2nd, 3rd and 3rd place place at A tier events, where he took out a potential of 15 players that may be PR worthy next season

Fatality at Civil War beat Trela, Kome, Komirikiri, Nairo, Kirihara, Captain Zack and T to place 2nd at Civil War. He earned 128 points from this tourney

Does anyone think this is a little wonky? I think the idea of placing emphasis on S tiers and doubling their point value would only make sense if we had dozens of Sagas. I think the monthly format is great and most feasible, but since that means we get 5, its pretty hefty to double the value of two of those tournies. It somewhat invalidates the others

It makes sense to have S tiers worth more on PGR because of how many tournaments qualify for PGR, but perhaps something like this for 2GG should only result in a 1.25 point multiplier instead of a full 2x?

Another example. T (Japanese Link Player) got 64 points for his 3rd place finish at Civil War. Captain Zacks 32 for 3rd place. Both got 3-0d by Fatality, but since T lost one set later, he got double Zacks points

I also think it doesnt place enough value on top 8s. Zack could have made top 8 at Genesis, Midwest and Greninja saga and would only get 12 points for it. Three top 8 finishes at A tier events would be less than half of what the difference between 4th and 3rd place at Civil War is. Both Zack and T only won one set in top 8, but Zack got sent to losers by Dabuz the eventual Champion. As such, he earns half the points of T

I love the fact that we now have a circuit and also acknowledge we are in its first year so prolly smoothing out the edges. But this system doesnt seem to value #of quality wins, H2H records, consistently excellent placings, or even great placings at stacked events (as HIKARU and Locus got top 8 of Civil War, and only got 12 points)

It just seems to value whether you got top 3 at two specific events. Which i think could use some amending. Doubling the value of point totals at specific events means the the top-heavy nature of the reward system becomes even more exclusive

MANY remarked that getting out of pools of Civil War was like winning a regional and making top 32 was like winning a B tier tourney. Komorikiri made 17th at Civil War and only got 2 points off of it

Not trying to single out or defend Komo, just noticing that hes an excellent example of this systems quirks.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:49 PM PDT

What's up, it's dB | Wisely!

Tomorrow we're hearing from Jose V and StereoKidd on Ness! If you have any questions for either of them, post in the comments and I'll choose a few for the interview. PK Fire setups? Best Ness costume? Send some questions our way, and we'll get you all the info you've ever wanted!

You ever tune into a stream and hear, "Uhhh. I dunno Lucario. He's probably canceling some stuff right now..."? Yeah, that sucks, and I get it. Time to fix that, one character at a time.

In the end, we'll have a playlist full of talks from top players about what they find hype about their character. Maybe not a "How-To-Play 101", but for viewers or commentators figuring out what to get excited about, it's exactly we need.

They'll all be interviewed live on Down B Collaborations' Smashcast, and then posted to our YouTube! See you all tomorrow!

As someone who has never seen PPMD play, what should I expect when he comes back?

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:01 AM PDT

I know he is one of the 5 gods and is one of the best Marth/Falco players, but I really don't know any more than that.

solid proof that ppmd is coming back

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:05 PM PDT

so i went through ppmd's twitter and collected data from his tweets starting from june 2016, and the results i have found have thoroughly convinced me (and soon you) that he is going to return. note that the evidence i have collected here and the arguments i am making is indisputable.

evidence #1:

starting with the number of tweets, take a look at this graph.

ppmd tweet graph

where the x-axis is the date and the y-axis is the number of tweets he has made (starting from june 2016)

as you can see the number of tweets he has made has been dropping over time, which means that he is most likely not on his computer (because if we are on our computers that means we are depressed - just look at me for example) and actually practicing melee. may is anomalous just like how ken placed 9th at tg6 but nobody cares about that.

evidence #2:

now let's take a look at the number of "=)" he made in his tweets

ppmd =) graph

as you can see the number of =) he has made in his tweets has steadily been increasing, which means that he is getting happier. if we ignore what happened between november-march we can clearly see a vast improvement in his mental health.

evidence #3:

last but not least the most convincing piece of evidence is the progression of the tone of his tweets over time.

on july 5, 2016, in response to a fan asking him if he is going to stream, he replies: tweet

on november 13, 2016, in response to a fan asking him how he's doing, he replies: tweet

on february 8, in response to a fan asking him how he's doing, he replies: tweet

on june 1st in response to a fan asking him how he's doing, he replies: tweet

in conclusion, it is clear to see ppmd is steadily improving based on all the true evidence that i have gathered. i predict he will enter a tourney before 2017 ends. thanks for your time
