Heroes of the Storm - [META]Flair, Improved. Update, Required.

[META]Flair, Improved. Update, Required.

Posted: 07 Jun 2017 12:33 PM PDT

Hey everyone!

I'm sure you might be wondering why it seems like Abathur has taken over the subreddit flair. I promise we haven't been captured and "improved".

We've been updating and organizing all of our flair from the backend, breaking it up into categories so we can stay within the image size limit. It's finally done, but that means that everyone's flair was broken as a result (Abathur was the first image, so it defaulted to him). So please, take a moment to update your flair on the sidebar!

Quick reminder that we've started verifying pro players on the subreddit with a little green check. If you're a pro player who's interested in verifications, please check out this post.

If there are any broken or missing flairs, please let me know in the comments and I'll try to fix them ASAP. Malthael flairs should be live in a day or so. Live now!

Suggestion: Make "Random Hero" a permanent exp boost instead of during only dead hours

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:07 AM PDT

As a still learning player, I find it fun to hit random and force myself into playing a hero I don't always play. I was just hoping that the incentive to do so would be more permanent.

Also, randoming gives you more flexibility to fit into all kinds of roles or heroes needed for balancing in QM (assuming you check off all the roles and not just your favourites or one category)

It was to my surprise one time that when I played random, there was a green arrow indicating an exp boost since there were few players during that particular time (I assume)

EDIT: Technically, "Auto-Select"

EDIT2: Sooo, 94% general approval, PM Blizz mods?

Midseason brawl is the best heroes tournament to date

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:04 AM PDT

Seriously, this is fantastic viewing. The teams are competitive, there are massive upsets, the meta is interesting, it is just a delight. Estar alone is the best to watch, every talent choice is unexpected and the fights are wacky.

Check it out if you haven't!

ESports organizations being impersonated

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 05:46 PM PDT

Hey everybody,

Earlier today MiST, a grandmaster streamer most known for being on the UTA Heroes of the Dorm team last year, announced on his stream that he was joining a team sponsored by Luminosity Gaming. This team was supposedly Luminosity's attempt to rejoin the Heroes of the Storm scene and try out for a spot in the HGC, but Luminosity confirmed on their official twitter that the "representative" speaking to Mist was an imposter:

https://twitter.com/Luminosity/status/874404849949036544 https://twitter.com/Luminosity/status/874405158968537091

Mist left Team Freedom's stream team for this false opportunity, and was very excited to be possibly realizing his dreams as a pro gamer. This situation is unfortunate all around, and it serves as a reminder to properly verify people in interactions such as this. If any streamers or others hopeful for HGC tryouts are contacted by individuals such as this, they would do well to be extremely cautious.

EDIT:

Mist just accepted an offer from Selfless Gaming to be on their stream team, it is not a Jebaited this time though :)

Major bug with Tyrael death counting twice and making double explosion damage happened again in DK vs SPT series today.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:16 PM PDT

2 weeks ago there was a thread about this bug in crucible games: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/6drtl2/is_vs_naventic_tyrael_death_counting_twice/ . Tyrael's explosion made more damage then intended and his death also counted twice which you can notice looking at announcements at the top ("Red team hero killed: Tyrael") and xp bar.

Today the same bug happened at MSB in game 2 of DK vs SPT, here is the clip: https://clips.twitch.tv/TastyVibrantTrollEleGiggle (thanks to /u/Foxtrot434 who posted a link here). I think it is a serious bug which might influence the result of one of the future games at MSB considering that Tyrael is quite popular in competitive. In the last clip it killed a hero and dropped another one to almost zero hp. If Blizzard is unable to make a hotfix during a tournament, Tyrael should probably be banned from now on, what do you think?

Skin Idea: Wisp Probius

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 12:10 PM PDT

I like to imagine Probius as a Wisp. I think theres some cool night elf potential there.

Pylon: Could have like a mossy rock ring with a watery crystal to represent a moonwell

Photon Cannon: Could have a moonwell base and a stone eye could come out of it

Null Gate: The ends could be trees and in between some moon energy

His other abilities would just be moon energy looking.

The early years of HotS casting was hit or miss (usually miss). Now with Dread, Gilly, JHow, Grubby, Trix, etc. etc. the matches are just a joy to watch.

Suggestion: for Uther and Morales healing statistic, count the damage prevented by the armor they give

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:11 PM PDT

Providing armor to allies is a crucial part of the Uther's and Morales' kits and can help mitigate a lot of damage. We have a 'healing/shielding' stat block in the table, but preventing damage by giving out armor is nowhere reflected in the statistics. I think it is an unfortunate omission. It may give a wrong impression that, for example, if healing numbers for Uther are lower than for other hero, he had done a worse job as a support. The addition will also make things more consistent, since healing stat already counts Medivh invulnerability and Zarya's shields despite them not "healing" anyone per se.

Tassadar and Zeratul Announcer previews are literally identical minus 1 word

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 08:47 AM PDT

As someone who hasn't played any of the StarCraft campaigns all the way through, I decided to watch a play through of all of the cinematics to get the lore / background information related to the HotS characters. For those interested, link below. I am still working on the SC2 video. Shout out to JaKaTaKtv!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j3X3EuCf98

After watching the SC1 play through, both Tassadar and Zeratul became infinitely more badass in my eyes... As such, I decided to check out their announcer packs and realized that the previews are virtually identical... Like there is literally a single word difference when playing the previews in the shop. Obviously the voice actor is different, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem like these two announcers are very different...

Note: I only own the Zeratul announcer so there are probably additional differences once you start playing a game... I just thought it was weird Blizzard decided to create two similar announcers (or at least that they made them so similar in the preview) when they could have scrapped one and created the much desired Alarak announcer!

Regardless, kudos to you Blizzard! Literally every game you've made has been a joy to play and even the ones I don't like to play have such an amazing story that it's worth it to watch a 1hr+ long video detailing the lore... In the case of SC2, 4hr+!

EDIT: To clarify, these announcer packs are probably very different in game... I just thought it was comical that the previews are so dang similar. And I only own one of them so I couldn't do a detailed comparison.

Also, this post has the dual purpose of sharing JaKaTaKtv's hard work to anyone who also is interested in StarCraft lore and to also thank Blizzard for their work. This is my first HotS reddit post so sorry for the clickbaity / triggering title. Lesson learned lol.

Suggestion : Give Some Loot Chests As Reward At The End Of The Season

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 03:11 PM PDT

Like :

  • 1 chest for bronze

  • 1 rare chests for silver

  • 2 rare chests for gold

  • 1 normal and 1 epic chest for platinium

  • 2 epic chests for diamond

  • 1 veteran chest for master

  • 1 epic and 1 veteran chest for grand master

Don't know what you guys think about that but in my opinion, it would be a motivation for some players.

Tetcher appreciation

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:04 PM PDT

I hadn't seen too much of his in-game casting, particularly more recently. He can sound a bit flat compared to other casters, due to that British stiff upper lip.

But I just noticed during DK vs SPT, he's actually really good at play by play. Crisp, clear, and fast. I'm really impressed. Very well done!

Grubby's Analogies: 6.5/10

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 07:12 AM PDT

In a ranked game if 8 or more players report a player for AFK/Intent feeding there should be some kind of immediate action.

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:03 AM PDT

As the title says it is really frustrating in ranked to have someone intentionally feed from 3 minutes onward for the next 20 minutes, then confirm with everyone in the game that they reported him, and see them queue up next game like nothing happened.

This game is very harsh on "Abusive chat" violators and they can receive immediate punishment and you can sometimes see the effects of your report immediately. Which is a good thing.

However there is almost no punishment for afkers/feeders and that to me is literally ten thousand times more bothersome and has a much bigger negative impact on my gaming experience and my willingness to play.

There was a wave of bans announced what? like 4 months ago? maybe even longer than that and nothing mentioned since then. I could be wrong about this but i frequent this sub and typically stay super on up date on info about this game.

If 8 people report someone for the same thing, its fair to say its not just a group ganging up on someone and they actually did something that deserves being report.

tl;dr need more swift and serious punishment for griefers.

Mid Season Brawl: Elo and Statistics Update - Post Day 3

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:33 PM PDT

Short post today, have to get some things done.

Hey guys, post this one directly to reddit since it usually takes a day for things to get published on GFE.gg, so it's easier for me to just post this here:

Previous Posts

Pre-MSB Post: https://gfe.gg/news/post/dbsmileys-hgc-update-6-1-17
Post Day 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/6gi94c/mid_season_brawl_elo_and_statistics_update_post/
Post Day 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/6gns3k/mid_season_brawl_elo_and_statistics_update_post/

There was actually some pretty big Elo changes as a result of day 2. For teams in the Mid Season Brawl, here are the current ratings:

Elo

MSB Rank Team Rating
1 Fnatic 1828
2 MVP Black 1803
3 L-5 1803
4 Team Dignitas 1746
5 E-Star 1745
6 Roll20 eSports 1635
7 Tempo Storm 1564
8 Super Perfect Team 1474
9 Nomia 1457
10 Soul Torturers 1382
11 Deadly Kittens 1346
12 Red Canids 1342

Group A Odds

Using Elo odds to simulate each group 100K times, I get the following updated odds

Team Points Winner's Bracket Loser's Bracket Elimination
MVP Black 10 97.0% 2.9% 0.0%
Fnatic 9 99.1% 0.8% 0.0%
Roll20 esports 4 3.8% 95.9% 0.4%
Nomia 3 0.0% 90.6% 9.4%
SPT 1 0.0% 2.9% 97.1
Deadlykittens 1 0.0% 6.9% 93.1%

Note that MVP Black and Deadly Kittens have played one more series than every other team.

Group B

Team Points Winner's Bracket Loser's Bracket Elimination
E-Star 9 90.6% 9.3% 0.0%
L-5 6 43.4% 56.8% 0.0%
Team Dignitas 6 65.1% 34.9% 0.0%
Tempo Storm 4 0.9% 93.5% 5.5%
Soul Torturers 1 0.0% 5.2% 94.8%
Red Canids 0 0.0% 0.3% 99.6%

Very little changed today for Group B. A bunch of expected 2-0s. The top 3 are clearly leagues better than the rest.
