You guys need to calm down. The java edition of Minecraft isn't going anywhere. Posted: 12 Jun 2017 08:19 AM PDT I am and have been for many years, a map maker. After the release of the unifying update trailer today, all of these inanely confused and misguided players are screaming about the death of the java edition and how we are forgotten. You are the death of the java edition. Stop. Look at the recent update the java version received. I know that on the surface everything just looks like basic content with a few colors added here and there but under the hood the java edition went through a monumental change that is laying a new foundation for the modding community. Functions, Advancements, and Loot Tables. These three things are merely the beginning of a greater shift toward a fully supported internal system to be used by mod and map makers. I can only imagine that using the json format, we will see custom blocks, items, effects, animations, and entities within the next update. If you are unaware of the FULL power that functions and advancements have on the game, then you should either take a moment to learn about it, or pipe down and keep your misguided opinions to yourself. This game is far from dying and is taking huge leaps forward with every content update, leaps that the "unified" minecraft version will never see. I think that a lot of people need to understand that the Unified version is the equivalent of a PUG server on an FPS game. They are meant to be quickly accessible, easy to pick up, and a simple experience to the core gameplay of minecraft. They are not and likely never will be what the Java Edition is. They will never be an openable and modifiable .jar file with resource packs and a powerful command architecture. Why on Earth would the developers put so much effort into making resource packs, functions, advancements, and loot tables for a version they are planning to dump in the trash? That's an awful lot of work for something that will never see the light of day on the unified version. Also, it's not an "Us vs Them". I know that concept is really hard to wrap your head around, but the faster you do the better you will feel about every step this game takes forward. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jun 2017 03:25 PM PDT Short rant. I know no one cares but I have it in me to write this out and where else would be better? I hope these Sony motherfkers see this. I've been with you dicks since Oddworld Abe's Odyssey in '97. I've defended you in SO many arguments with gamers from other platform origins SO many times over the years repping Sony like I was a biblical crusader or something. I've had one of every generation of station ever, never breaking or losing one. How dare you have the audacity to refuse Minecraft's open hand to unite gamers across platforms because of your fear of Microsoft smudging you out with its thumb drive? -_- And then on top of that not even getting the 4K update? Fck you guys, I'm becoming a PC gamer and making big Billiam Gates my wallpaper on that sh*t. tl;dr - F*CK YOU SONY [link] [comments]

[Concept Suggestion] A way to optimize terrain generation for long lasting exploration after 1.13. Posted: 12 Jun 2017 04:32 PM PDT This idea is going to be long. But you can skip the italicized section if you want and just go straight to the idea. I just want to let you know first that idea that I'm about to propose is something that I talked about back in february in a post titled "The Problem with Terrain Generation and a Solution that could Create Diversity within Biomes Themselves". I since deleted that post for reasons but I was inspired to recreate it because a youtuber Jragon pitched a very similar idea. He then made a response video explaining that its just an idea and the game's current code might not be able to pull it off. But with rumors going around that 1.13 will focus on game optimization and perhaps changes to the game's core code, I thought, why not bring my version of the concept here to Reddit and see what I can add to it in hopes that Minecraft's code could pull it off after 1.13. So without further ado, here it is. The Idea Minecraft's terrain generates using a Perlin Noise map. It is only used to generate the shape of the terrain. Not the biomes, or anything else. But with this current system, the terrain is just very repetitive. And I think the source of the problem is that every forest looks like every other forest. You've seen one biome, you can't expect anything new if you come across that same biome again in a new area. So my solution is to implement several other noise maps to the terrain generator that change lots of other different variables in the world. Small things such as the following.
Straight forward. Some areas have a lot of grass and others have a lot of flowers.
Trees spawn closer together. We can have jungles as sparse as savannahs and savannahs as dense as jungles.
Trees spawn taller or shorter. We can have forests with ten block high trees or forests with shrubby thickets. A nightmare to travel through.
The difference between a very smooth landscape and a very annoying one... Fishermen would be happy though.
Changes the basic shape of the terrain. Jragon experimented a bit in his video so i think it's worth a watch to get a good grasp of what it could mean.
Currently we only find stone exposed in extreme hill biomes and dirt exposed in Savannah Ms. But it would also be nice if other places could possibly have stone for a ground or coarse dirt. Realistically the entire planet isn't covered in strong fluffy grass. Just imagine what the generator can create by mixing and matching so many values and variables. This could satisfy the demand for unique terrain for a long time without even adding biomes because it has the potential to create a world of variation in one single biome alone. Now imagine the system being applied to 36 biomes. Even in a customized world where only one biome is selected, the world could still come out amazingly different. And thats why I have confidence in this idea. So give your thoughts on this. Could it work? Lets get the discussion going. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 10:25 AM PDT Sure their great. Dogs help you fight and scare skellies. Cats scare creepers and parrots.... look cute. But its annoying as all hell when I spend an hour arranging my parrots on a tree or i tell my dogs and cats to sit in a specific out of the way spot, only for a zombie to give me a love tap and suddenly I have 8 cats 7 dogs and 15 parrots getting in my way cause for whatever reason they move to you every time you get hit. its not even remotely useful. In fact all these parrots flying in my face mixed with sweep attack actually caused me to kill some of my pets while killing on mob. Why was this even added?! Mojang seriously remove the stupid thing pets do where they run to you to "help" in a fight. it just causes more trouble than its worth. [link] [comments]

Regarding the future of the "Minecraft Java version". Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:54 AM PDT Yesterday's announcement kind of messed me up. Up until now, I thought that Java Minecraft was the "leading/reference" version for all other Minecraft versions. Now, it seems consoles + win10 versions are getting shiny new stuff while Java version begin to miss features added to the other versions. There's some talk about a marketplace to cash in for mods and other extras, a new mod API for the new (Windows 10 + console) systems, cross-platform play, and the new graphics thing. I haven't been able to read anything about actual, solid, statements about who gets what (or who doesn't get what) So here I am asking for what is known: There's any kind of official statement about how they are going to support the Java version versus the "new" versions and what are the current differences between each version? I'm starting to worry about the community being splitted between a potential "legacy java" version and the other "synchronized", closed, version. Some of the threads in this same subreddit are also pointing towards a "gentle forcing everyone to the new versions" movement, and the latest announcements aren't exactly reassuring. (Yeah, I know there's a "free win10 version" for everyone who has the Java version, but that's not what I'm asking about ;) ) [link] [comments]

I have created a tool to update your commands to work in 1.12! Posted: 12 Jun 2017 11:48 AM PDT https://mrgarretto.com/convert-1-12 Simply paste your 1.11 command in the top input, and it will convert it for 1.12 and display the output at the bottom. I also made a video which shows it in action. [link] [comments]
