Why do pro players move a little bit between right clicks

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 04:09 PM PDT

They don't just stand still and auto attack (sometimes they do), they step a tiny little bit between attacks. Why is this?

What is a "Silver Edge carrier"?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 11:34 AM PDT

Tbh, this is one thing that's never made sense to me. Let's say the enemy team has Bristleback, PA, and... I guess Wraith King. People will often say, "there is no natural Silver Edge carrier on this team." What does this mean? You shouldn't build Silver Edge on any carry that "shouldn't" build it? Isn't it more important to say, they have three heroes that have great abilities that could be broken with a Silver Edge?

When you're the safe lane carry and the lane is pretty much free, is it more efficient to push the wave, go farm the hard camp, then go back to the wave and so on and so forth - or go and push the tower?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 05:35 PM PDT

I'm quite torn on this. Obviously I don't know all the bits and pieces of DotA yet (my MMR is proof of that), thus why I'm keen on hearing your thoughts!

I obviously wouldn't want to miss on that sweet, sweet hard camp farm, but at the same time, I could be one step close to getting more than 200 gold off of destroying the enemy tower if I manage to last hit it.

How do you deal with strength heroes in general?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 11:46 AM PDT

You know how people are being like "Bristleback is unkillable this patch"? That's how I feel for all strength heroes in general. I mostly play Storm/TA/SF so heroes that like to burst low hp heroes, is that the cause of my problem or is there still something I can do to counter them?

Why did Luna+Shadow Demon went out of meta?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 04:35 AM PDT

With the recent Shadow Demon buffs, shouldn't it be really strong? Also Luna can farm incredible fast early on, also jungle creeps spawn every minute. Why do pros or even high level pubs don't use it anymore?

How to split-push without dying?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 11:01 AM PDT

So I often play heroes that are good at split push like AM. Say, a fight breaks loose in our jungle. I tp to the other side of the map and start pushing. But 95 % of the time someone will tp to defend. As AM I might easily escape, but when I'm playing other carries with no reliable escape, what can I do? I get locked down and instantly killed, so I guess I am doing it wrong and at inappropriate time.

What's a good offlaner against razor?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 12:57 PM PDT

Been seeing a lot more razor carries lately in my pubs. What's a good offlaner to lane against this hero or ranged carries in general?

Radiance in low MMR games

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 04:21 PM PDT

I've come to realize that this item is hugely OP in ~1k or so matches. If I get one on any hero who it even remotely makes sense for, almost immediately the game starts turning our way. Towers fall, we start winning 5v5 fights that we were losing five minutes earlier, within 10 minutes you've got the highest net worth in the game easily.

It doesn't even have to be a reasonable timing; if you get it at 40 minutes after a couple other things, it can STILL swing the match in your favor unless someone is buttstomping you so hard they're hopelessly far ahead. If Spectre gets it any time before 30 minutes, that's basically game. Now, if the other team gets it, then the same thing happens in reverse, and it sucks.

I've come to the conclusion that this is for two reasons: 1) People in low MMR don't farm fast and Radiance is an expensive item, so if you can get one, nobody can keep up with you and you just get too fat. And 2) There are ways to deal with a Radiance on the other team, but people at this level don't know what those are.

So, basically I'm wondering what the proper way is to handle it when they have Radiance and you don't ... and also at what level enemies start figuring that out too. I feel like I could just play nothing but Abaddon and Spectre and win 80% of games with Radiance builds, but that has to stop at some point.

How do I counter PA

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 08:01 AM PDT

I get rapped by her everyday. Pls tell me all the hard counters. Here at 500 mmr you will have to farm even if you support because no one(including me) is good enough to farm properly. Which hero completely nullifies her?

What could I have done to have more impact in this game as Morphling?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 11:21 AM PDT

Recently had a game as Morphling that I'd like some feedback on. I just felt like I couldn't do much, and got carried despite being mid, getting the most farm on the team, etc.

In terms of build, I skipped the Ethereal Blade because the only person that I thought I'd be able to reliably gank was Invoker.

I didn't really know what to do in teamfights. Usually I'll try to waveform in to initiate, stun someone with adaptive strike if they're low or about to kill a teammate, and shift strength if I'm getting low. But even at 75% agility, I felt fragile while also feeling like I wasn't dealing much damage.

Is there something I'm not getting about how to play Morphling effectively?

Specific questions for higher mmr players (5k and up) for low mmr player.

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 11:03 AM PDT

I am around 2-3k mmr. Used to be 3k - 3.5k. This days having a losing streak mostly playing supports (mostly cm, lion, sk). Though I know I need to play better, pub stompers like pudge, riki, axe will wipe most of my team mates too easily. Again people will say I may be blaming my teammates or I am not doing well etc etc all that zen. I don't, i want to improve, but the way things are now it seems like i am getting worse.

I always hear higher mmr players will 99% win when playing in a lower mmr bracket. So my questions is on higher mmr (5k and up) players when they are playing to lower mmr (3k and down). BTW i am in SEA mostly playing position 4/5. I am good at positioning even in position 5, wards most of the time, sometimes least dying before my teammates. Mostly just prioritizing getting advantage early then trying to make my teammates stay alive and farm mid game.

  • How do higher mmr players make decisions before game, do they counter pick specifically or they can use any hero proficiently to the point they can even negate counter picks to them on lower mmr games?

  • Do higher mmr just spam snowball/pubstomp heroes in lower mmr? i wanted to improve much in 4/5 position and really raise my mmr in that position.

  • What do you do when you are in a 5 position and enemies are very aggresive, pudge, tinker, meepo.

  • In worse case scenario you have 4 cores that is all right click heroes, mostly squishy heroes, you are solely a support, enemies have pudge and riki with snowball potential. Lanes weak as fuck. What will you pick and how realistically you can win.

Basically the secret of most high mmr players who always say you just need to git gud. Those godly people who if played on the lower mmr bracket, will surely win no matter how stupid or brainless their teammates are, in any position.

Puck in late game

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 05:36 AM PDT

I'm still relatively new to the game. Many pros seem to like puck on offlane or mid, but I don't quite understand his role in late game. It seems like he doesn't have the spell damage other, similar heroes might have and people do not seem to build much attack damage/speed on him.

Is his role therefore limited to trying to land good ultimates, using his spells and doing a few autoattacks once a minute? Then you could also play him as a support, since he doesnt need farm for that. Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Is AA actually a hero now?

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 04:03 AM PDT

So with the level 1 change to his stun and the rework to ice vortex, is AA viable? I have been seeing him more and more in pro games. How do you play him now? Still Midas? Also what skill build do you go now?

Harass or CS mid?

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 08:43 PM PDT

Say if I'm a ranged hero mid and my opponent is a melee hero. Should I go for easy right clicks and potentially mess up my creep equilibrium or solely focus on my CS?

How do I improve as a mid/core player?

Posted: 09 Jun 2017 10:23 PM PDT

I recently started playing dota after a massive break from HoN and came back to a game that I no longer recognized so decided to start playing dota instead.

For the last month or so I have been trying my best to improve on the heroes that I like to play and do well with however one of my issues I feel is that I win ranked games that I have no business winning (because I either am not familiar with a hero in general or in the context of the drafts) but also lose games that I feel could have a different outcome depending on my itemization or choices during the match.

I believe this negatively impacts my learning experience because I don't get "punished" for my mistakes as much as I feel like I should. (example of this is a recent PA game where I got completely dominated by QoP on mid lane, but rest of our team held them off from pushing until I got my BKB up. (https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3231526514)

A different game where I tried slardar offlane and had absolutely 0 impact yet my team carried me so hard im sure their back must have been aching. (https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3207092092)

I am currently sitting at 3.4k solo mmr~~ calibrated at 3k (international ranked, havent played normal ranked yet) and still calibrating party mmr. I play mainly mid lane (if im solo queuing, or a safelane carry when i play with friends)

Most of the time I struggle hard if the enemy team puts a lot of pressure on me when im either mid/safelane vs multiple roaming supports making it hard for me to last hit and putting me in this "catch-up" mentality where I retreat into farm-frenzy until I finish up one of my items before going for any sort of offensive (most of the time it ends up being a bkb so I can at least try and help my team hold of pushes)

This usually ends up with the enemy team either deathballing us for and the game ends right there or my team ends up winning by just waiting for them to make a mistake (basicly playing around them being bad instead of us being good) which gets us wins, but doesnt make me better as a player.

What areas should I focus on and practice to improve as a player?

Here is my dota buff and I think ranked games are more relevant since I spend most of time in normal mode just dicking around practicing certain ascepts of the game instead of just focus on winning.

https://www.dotabuff.com/players/30571619/matches?lobby_type=ranked_matchmaking

Sorry for the wall of text.

TLDR: im bad, how do i git gud
