Learn Dota 2 - How to counter Ursa

How to counter Ursa

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 02:50 PM PDT

Greetings from 400 MMR. Recently my friends and I have been getting demolished by Ursa. I was wondering how to counter him. I realize that items like ghost scepter and heaven's halberd can be helpful for right clickers, but they do not seem to work great. Do you have any suggestions for us?

Why is Chaos Knights winrate on the rise?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 05:43 AM PDT

Right now his winrate is 54.45% and it's on the rise. I know they increased his strength (20 to 22 and 2.9 to 3.2)but his phantasm illusions now take way more damage (200% to 260%). What is it that's putting Chaos Knight in a good spot right now?

How to stop a losing streak?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 03:54 PM PDT

I'll start by saying this has been over a week or so, not a dozen games over a day or two. I generally play like 1-2 games a day, maybe less if I've had a busy day or trying Siltbreaker. I went from 3.7K down to 3.3K over this period.

At first I tried taking breaks, playing Siltbreaker instead. Then I tried going back to my better heroes like Clockwerk, QOP, and so forth. Then I tried picking simple supports like CM, Treant and picking early to help my team pick later or counterpick. It's also compounded when I see that we have clearly the better draft and I lose my double down.

I'm not saying I'm blameless here as well, I make a few mistakes as well but I've never had a losing streak for so long before! Anyone have any similar experiences?

How do you ward?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 02:29 PM PDT

Like, not where do you ward but I literally mean how do you ward?

Too often do I spasticate out trying to place a ward whilst under pressure and accidentally putting down 2 sentry wards on top of each other because I haven't double tapped my ward button to change to observers.

Is there an easier way to do this? Can I bind a separate button to switch ward types or do I just need to take my friggin' time and ensure I switch wards before placing them?

My 1.2k mmr brain can't work this out.

How can I win more games when teammates random?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:44 AM PDT

After a rough 1-6 rough of Dota, I once again felt that I was unlucky with teammates. They randomed a lot and it didn't work well. Easy -125, right?

It's easy to say "I always get the shitty teammates" and "I'm unlucky", but is that the case for me? So I wanted to check numbers and see if my teammates do random more than others. Statistically the other team should random more than my team (assuming that I never random).

I took a sample size of 76 games (since after that OpenDota didn't seem to be tracking it).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17gRihhz4vLGkM-hKf_6-J-eH_PFVqABLcd1_ikfcMNs/edit#gid=0

Here's what I found:

Teammates random 24 times, opponents random 17. Statistically opponents should random 29 times.

Games where teammates random is 21, games where opponents random is 13. Statistically should be 26.

When my teammates random, win rate is 28%. When opponents random, their win rate is 54%.

It's a pretty decent sample size, so I am going to go with it. Yes, my teammates random a lot more than the other team, which a statistically anomaly. That's something I can't change though.

The important question is "How can I win more games when teammates random?" Are there heroes that are better at mitigating this, or a certain role that I can play to do so? Should I pick more flexible heroes like Necro/Omni/Bloodseeker/WK that can fill multiple roles to help mitigate the damage done by a bad random?

Are there any good arcade modes to practise near-constant teamfighting?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 02:34 PM PDT

I've identified that teamfighting, and fighting in general, is one of my big weaknesses in DOTA.

So I want to practise that - but in games of DOTA teamfights are infrequent.

I know there are various arcade mods in DOTA with lots more fighting - what's the best one to improve teamfighting, ganking, fighting etc skills?

Lets talk about Gyrocopter carry.

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 06:01 AM PDT

Recent patches have seen Gyro get buffed more than nerfed, and the buffs were quite significant to gyro's role as a carry.

Significant buffs:

  1. Flak cannon radius increased to almost the size of exp range (allows for better lane harass and jungle efficiency at certain camps)
  2. Movement speed buffs and talent make it possible for a late game 6 slot gyro without boots (with lvl 20 talent, its 360 ms without items, 418 with SnY)
  3. Jungle was buffed with stacking times reverted back to normal (tho exp and gold is nerfed a little)
  4. Some of gyro's usual items are cheaper now (SnY, Demon's edge)

Questions for discussion:

  1. Has anyone been spamming this hero recently? If yes, is it as a carry or as some niche gyro support? What do you think are the flaws of this hero from experience?
  2. What were the reasons that this hero was almost picked back in 2013-2014? Is it because PL was a good hero back then? Is it because jungle was stronger back then?
  3. What are the strengths of current meta carries that warrant them to be useful enough for a pick?

Rephrasing question 3,

Carries usually are picked based on what a team needs; gyro has amazing teamfight, decent creepwave clear for push and doesn't need one amazing item to start being relevant. Kinda like a luna. So why is this hero not considered as a carry over other current meta carries?

Best Dragon Knight talent tree?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:52 AM PDT

Is there a best? I usually build:

10: +10 Strength - I take the stats early as opposed to the +30 attack speed because it seems like it will help my mid game. I'm not sure about this one. I could be wrong.

15: +40 Damage - The +40 damage seems to make DK really scary at this point in the game vs the +40% XP gain, especially if he got solo mid lane and already has a decent level advantage.

20: +300 Health - Improve tankiness vs +120 unreliable gold/min. Again, I could be wrong about this one.

25: 2x Dragon Blood regen/armor - Take this over the +75 movement speed because DK will probably be tanking stuff anyway, not chasing, so the armor seems the better choice.

Thoughts?

How to get more active on the map as Invoker?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 08:41 AM PDT

So, I've landed on Invoker as a favorite hero for the time being, as his skill ceiling is extremely high, his gameplay is rewarding, and he scales better into the late game than the mids I normally play, like Zeus (plus he can actually hit towers, unlike Zeus).

However, I find that despite usually having the space to farm an Aghs before my team starts to group and fight more, I still don't have an idea of what to do when the mid/late game comes around. Take, for example, my last game with Invoker. I was up against PA, Leshrac, SD, Bristleback, and Meepo. If I'm split pushing and run into two or more of those heroes with detection, I'm basically dead, in my mind. So I tend to stay more on my side of the map, but that leaves me to AFK farm with the rest of my team, which has little impact besides getting items on my hero. It's also super difficult to coordinate smoke ganks or get deep vision in the low/sub 2k bracket, so when I'm pushing I'm nearly always blind to where the enemy is.

What should I do besides sending a meatball, tornado, or FS pair down a lane to take objectives? I'm too passive and play scared on a hero that has nigh-infinite potential for most all situations in the mid/late game, but I don't know what to do otherwise.

HP removal

Hi guys,

How do you make it so that health is removed instantly like some streamers have? I think this will be good for team fights etc.

Thanks in advance

Honestly you should get to a point of playing a hero where you think for yourself

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 11:02 PM PDT

You want to play enough of a hero that you can on the go think of what items you build to meet the situation rather than blindly following a guide. In fact turning off guides was one of the things I did early in order to force myself to be more flexible.

Spamming a few heroes and concentrating on your mechanics and item builds is a fast way to learn more about the game and expand your skill when you don't have to worry about your heroes abilities too much. For example as a Lina player there are a ridiculous amount of options, Euls, Bloodstone, Aghs, Silver Edge. You want to get yourself to a point where it's almost intuitive what you build next to meet your win condition

HotD on Sven?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 02:21 AM PDT

Is it worth to buy domi on Sven on games that have no support to stack for him? Or just rush all the core items without relying on stacks.

TI4 era 4k~ player looking to update on hero builds and roles

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 01:29 PM PDT

Hey guys,

I started playing Dota 2 during the closed beta way back when, and played roughly ~1200 matches between that time period and about the end of 2014. I've recently found my way back to the game, and though I've been keeping up with general patchnote stuff like Dota 2.0, map changes, etc. I'm pretty lost on the power levels, roles, and builds of a lot of heroes (roaming Pudge was a real shocker, not gonna lie).

I've been looking for a fairly simple place to update my knowledge on builds without painstakingly poring over multiple sources or watching pros/Purge. Ideally, I'd like explanations for why things are done, and I haven't really been satisfied with Torte de Lini's guides in this aspect. To date myself, I originally got most of my knowledge from the old PlayDota guides, which obviously no longer exist; are there alternatives?

I've tried DotaFire as the sidebar suggests, but it seems to be outdated and often inaccurate, does /r/learndota2 have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Unsinkable quest

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 07:06 AM PDT

"Die 5/3/1 times in a won match."

I'm a mainly semi-support player, and even when I tried out a WK I got 4 deaths (and we lost because lack of carries and supports), but is there a sure way to do it on "full synchronization"? I suppose the team has to be stomping, and how not to die when creating space as support?

Because if you don't wanna be focused as support you have to stay way out of the fight, which mostly reduces the chances of winning.

And many supports which can help the carries to "tank" have low range - not to mention enemy can be suspicious of having 0/1 deaths (not killstealing = no streaks?)

TLDR: How to die max only one time in low mmr as support?

As Safelane Support, Should I zone off the offlaner or stack and pull if I faced Solo Offlaner at 00:30 to 1:00?

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 11:21 AM PDT

  1. Title. With the new patch, that makes creep equilibrium further from the Safelane tower, I found that if I dont pull then the next creep equilibrium will be around next to Hard Camp. If I zone the solo offlaner, there might be a chance that I missed the pull, if the solo offlaner decided to trading with me until he was low on hp. I usually proceed to stack and pull if I am against dual laner, then harass safely behind the tree to check if there is ward nearby based on their reaction. I didnt block the first wave much because I am trying to back up the Safelane rune taker in case enemies tries to contest rune.

  2. I have seen fews of past post in this subreddit stated that they would like to farm the hard camp when the creep is pushing in stated they get their items faster. I have seen few carries in my pasts games just farm the stacked hard camp when I pulled. I thought pulling creep and maintaining it just slightly outside of the tower range is the correct play.

  3. Is there a good suggestion for hero that can be played as semi-support or solo offlane? I am usually the last picker in games and fill up the necessary position required (mostly hard support, sometimes offlaner). But when I played with other last picker that insists on being last picker, I have to pick one to avoid getting my gold reduce. There is a chance that I get a last picked Offlane Core when I picked Tidehunter and was asked to go Jungle or I get last picked Jungler when I picked a Semi Support and unable to get much from the Offlane. I like to have a suggestion in picking a hero that capable to be semi support but can be played as solo offlaner when required, is there any other suggestion for me?

If you were going to only spam PA and LC

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 11:16 AM PDT

If you were going to only spam carry PA and LC (low 2k mmr) what would be some general rules or things to follow/look at?

For example what would a perfect team comp look like for each, and what are a few heroes/comps to definitely avoid with each? Assuming you get to pick 4th or 5th and need carry.

In search of party of 4 people to play captains mode, 2k Gods only.

Posted: 20 Jun 2017 01:54 AM PDT

Hi, i am searching 4 people to play in captains mode 2k bracket. We could just play for start to feel whats it like on CM. Later we would play serious games, every game different role for every player, then we can disscus which role certain player will play, also we would talk about strategies, and some combos, maybe we will need to try same startegy/combos more than once. I only need You to be calm and polite, don't rage or flame, remember it is only a game and we are learning. It is on EU servers, east/west, doesn't matter. Anyone interested, messege me your account link, and I will add you and contact You on Steam, when I can, which is usually after 4PM, CEST.

EDIT: 2k God is considered to be players of 2k mmr skill dedicated to improve, You are not supposed to be Miracle- of 2k

Self cast items with quick cast?

Posted: 19 Jun 2017 09:42 PM PDT

I play on quick cast for all my abilities and items. However, I have to hover my mouse over my character to self cast even though on the item it says to simply double click to self cast. Doesn't seem to work while on regular cast too. Any ideas on how to configure self cast?
