Creation Club is micro-transactions in a full price single player game. Mod author's perspective. Posted: 12 Jun 2017 08:25 AM PDT I'm a moderately successful Fallout and TES mod author. Using a throwaway for obvious reasons. When Creation Club was first announced, I was on the fence about it. On the one hand I know first hand that for most of us donations happen once in a blue moon. The only authors that are regularly rewarded are those that have a Patreon. But most of us don't mind, we do this because we want to and we enjoy it. So a curated store where only the best quality content is available for reasonable fees doesn't sound like a bad idea. Especially if existing content can't be retrofitted for it, so no mods disappearing over night. But then I thought, when TES 6 comes out we'll be buying a full price game, no doubt with season pass and "expansions", and then a micro-transaction store on top. In a single player RPG no less. Creation Club will have content made by both Beth and "independent contractors". How long before the best items in game are on the store instead of in the game at release. Things that they "didn't have the time" to complete or just poorly developed. A developer infamous for letting us fix their games will then be charging you fun-bucks for the privilege of having a complete game. I think this sets a dangerous precedence for developers triple dipping, all in the name of "rewarding content creators". Double whammy because people can then accuse you of being against supporting mod authors if you don't like the idea of paying 3 times for a complete experience. It's the perfect cover. It's a commercialization of what was for most of us a hobby with a tight nit community. We all know each other and help each other out. How long before that stops in favour of maximizing profits. Free mods won't go away over night, but when they're not making Beth money, what incentive is there to provide us with what little tools we get when you could sign all the Club members to an NDA and only give them the tools. Maybe I'm just paranoid or fear mongering, but this wouldn't have flown 10 years ago. Horse armour didn't go down well either. Please feel free to ask questions. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:18 PM PDT Did they not learn the first time they tried to fuck with the modding community? Bethesda what are you smoking over there? Vote with your wallets folks. Don't let this slide. [link] [comments] |
Paid Modding: That Chinese Stealth Suit is not ours. Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:32 PM PDT At the beginning of the year, my modding partner and I made a free mod of the Chinese Stealth Suit. Just to let everyone know, that we have been in zero contact with Bethesda, and Bethesda is indeed releasing a paid version alongside ours. I don't know the functionality of this new armor, however I noticed a paid Pip-Boy mod with only five repaints - as opposed to the dozens and dozens of repaints that is available in the free version. Just wanted to clear that up. As for the real nature of this Creator's club, it's rules or even who the Creators are - beats me :P Just wanted to clear that up. [link] [comments] |
Obsidian-made Official DLC is now possible and it's the worst thing that ever happened Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:51 PM PDT Come on guys, read the official FAQ. This is not "paid mods", it's Bethesda willing to hire someone who has a good idea and Beth will guaranty can follow through, or else they cut it. [link] [comments] |
Creation Club's just a facade to promote paid mods Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:16 PM PDT We as consumers should not allow this, the modding community for Fallout 4 has already existed for nearly 2 years at this point, to put paid mods in now is a travesty. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Jun 2017 03:26 PM PDT REMEMBER!: You have to get the other guys caps or money out on the trading menu before offering. also hit ENTER to end combat once all enemies are dead & the skill dex is how you use lockpick, repair etc. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2017 03:02 PM PDT DISCLAIMER: I enjoy every fallout game, I'm not trying to start a flame war this is just my opinion and a discussion as I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts. The reason I believe this is because there is no 'right' answer as to the faction you should pick. For example in New Vegas I think it's seen from the offset who is good guy (NCR) and who is bad guy (Legion) Then you have yourself or House which have their own arguments and kind of the 'middle men'. However in Fallout 4 I've seen all types of arguments and reasoning as too why people have chose their faction, whichever one you choose will have a huge impact within the Commonwealth. Minutemen: Very loosely organised but the supposed 'good guys' although are they capable of running the Commonwealth? BoS: These guys to some are seen as giant dicks, however some people agree with their principles and views, and believe they are the best answer to running the Commonwealth, others believe that they lie and have other intentions. Institute: Again some people believe these are the best hope for humanity, as they have built an entire civilisation underground and live in superb conditions. There is also the added sentiment as you find your son is their leader. Others however believe they're crazy and that they should be blown to pieces as you were just being used by them. RailRoad: Again some people see these as the good guys because they have good intentions for the Commonwealth, but others think that they're crazy trying to save rogue synths and that if they get control will not care about humanity just the synth population as they seem obsessed without actually knowing what synths are capable of which could see disaster in the future. Overall they are the most controversial faction choices (IMO) as everyone has different opinions on what is good and what is bad. [link] [comments] |
Creation Club isn't really paid mods. Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:56 PM PDT Like I said I don't think this is really paid mods. They aren't made by the community and anything that has already be created won't be included. They seem to be official polished mini additions in the sense they are made to work without disrupting current systems. Plus one advantage I haven't seen anyone address is that this will allow PS4 users to have access to new content in a way that Sony can't fuck with. I have no problem paying for content that may in some ways be superior to current community created mods. That's my take anyway. Feel free to downnvote and tell me how wrong I am as I know you will. OK, which one of you drives a Chrysalis Motors Highwayvan? Posted: 11 Jun 2017 07:40 PM PDT Spotted in a parking lot in front of Harbor Freight tools - where I assume most vault dwellers go for their post apocalyptic tool acquisition. Or Trader Vic's. edit: Typo on the name, it's Chryslus. I was going off memory and apparently my memory is shoddy [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2017 09:58 AM PDT I'm on my first playthrough of Fallout 3 after getting it off GOG about a week ago. Really loving it. Currently I'm in Little Lamplight, the place with all the children. So I asked some kid called Knock Knock for a joke. And the dialogue goes like... - Knock knock. Thing is I actually named my character Noah. At first I thought this was some kind of weird feature ("Wow, the the game actually does a working joke with the player's name"), but checking the wiki article on her that's actually the only joke she's telling. Didn't think I could like this game any more. How awesome is this? [link] [comments] |
Did anyone else cry when they read the story of Randall Clark in FNV:Honest Hearts? Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:53 PM PDT |
Am I seeing this right? We have to pay full price for Fallout VR? Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:43 PM PDT I'm sure some people will wanna hate on me and tell me how expensive developing games is, and while this won't keep you from posting a reply, I wanna point out that I know this and expecting them to put in the work to make Fallout VR work well for free is wishful thinking. But seriously! $60? I guess I naively assumed it would be a free update, like Skyrim SE was for PC, and I wouldn't mind spending $20-$40 but $60? I'm also assuming it'll be the same for Doom and Skyrim which is kind of a bummer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jun 2017 02:35 PM PDT I understand most people don't want or can't afford the steep initial costs of VR, but I can't understand people being upset or totally ambivalent towards Fallout VR. This is literally huge news for VR viability. There hasn't been a AAA open world game yet to come out in VR, and I personally have been dying for one. Imagine wandering the wastelands in first person. If you aren't interested in that, then cool but sounds pretty amazing to me. I have PSVR and even though it's just coming out for the Vive, I'm so excited. I know a lot of people think VR gaming is a fad but after playing it as much as I have I totally see massive potential down the line. [link] [comments] |

Why this solution to paid mods can be a good thing Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:56 PM PDT Basically Bethesda here is offering a quality check, they verify and work with mod developers to fully intergrate quality improvements and features into the game. You won't be scammed for bad DLC like content. Random generic shit wont make it through. Money attracts tallent, now that there is a secure process to generating revenue from creation of mods it will attract better people to giving it ago. This will bring better content in the long run. The content chosen is based of being able to intergrate with the game naturally, allowing players to keep achievements and progression. This makes the experience feel more full. People deserve to be paid for their hard work. If someones spending countless of hours providing you something that is DLC worthy and you really really want it. They deserve to be paid for it. Free moddings not going anywhere. Its purely upto you to support a modder that produces pay level work. You speak with your wallet. [link] [comments] |
Really Concerned About Fallout 4 VR Posted: 12 Jun 2017 01:00 PM PDT I'm about a diehard Fallout fan as you can get, and when Fallout 4 was announced for VR, I was hyped. When I saw the trailer, I was even more hyped But I'm also massively concerned, not because of the locomotion system, but because of the optimization of this game. Everyone knows that the game is poorly optimized, that's not news to anyone. But what a lot of people seem to forget is that you need to be running a game somewhere above 90fps to make it a comfortable VR experience. Now, I have a fairly beefy gaming computer; 1070, I7, SSD and 32 gigs ram. In the outer areas of the map, I can hit 120 fps no problem. But the second I head into downtown Boston, I tank to between 15 and 25 frames, even with optimization patches and tweaks. This would make the game unplayable in VR, and that for someone with a bulky system. Im really worried that this will crash and burn, a $60 asking price combined with terrible optimization seems like it will only lead to disaster. [link] [comments] |
So...high quality priced minimods? Posted: 11 Jun 2017 09:16 PM PDT Is that right? What even are credits and if you have to spend money to buy an outfit prepare to fine knockoff mods with them in it- if im even though understanding this right, sigh. Still hoping for Fallout 3/NV for next gen ports though update: wonder how much they paid to license that song for the switch commercial... just please port the older Falliur games 😩 [link] [comments] |
