Why don't 2-handed weapons count as 2 set pieces?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 04:31 PM PDT

Just an oddity that's bugged me from the start. If player uses dual-wield or 1h/sheild, they have 12 set piece slots available. That's enough to run a monster set and 2 full sets of any type. Yet, if you use a staff, bow, or 2H melee, you only get 11 set piece slots, and there's not a way to close the gap.

Since 2h weapons take up two slots, why don't they count as 2 pieces so that they can also use monster set + 2 5-piece set bonuses? AFAIK the difference isn't made up for in raw stats anywhere else, since using two 1h weapons provides the same enchant/trait bonuses that using one 2h. Even if the 2h base damage is marginally better, that's not going to compete with, say, having Hundings + Spriggan's both active, when compared to having Spriggan's and 4 pieces of Hundings. What gives?

From a newb to a newb - Advice

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:58 PM PDT

So today, after a month and a half, I hit CP160. I wanted to make this post because I've quite a few newbie posts asking questions and advice. This is stuff I wish I had known from the start, so hopefully if you're new you'll read this and take something out of it.

  • Don't follow builds Like most of you, anytime I'm playing a game with customizable builds (basically any game out there), I Google builds and set ups as soon as I start, to get an idea of what to do. In Elder Scrolls Online, don't do that. At least not from the start. When you jump into the game, play it, and build your own character. Don't dedicate yourself to that 'Number one DPS' build you found on Google. You can always pay to have your attributes and skills reset, so have fun with it. Find out what you do best with and what works for you.

  • Crafting By all means, you do not have to craft in this game, so don't feel obligated too. But, if you do want to craft, or think you might be interested in it later, start off young. Don't wait until you hit level 50 then start crafting. As you quest, run dungeons, and level up, you acquire gear that you can break down and while you roam around questing you can gather materials. Believe it or not, gathering materials while questing adds up. Deconstructing or gathering are both great ways to get materials, and they're very easy to do while leveling. Sure you could cram it all at once, but why not craft as you go? For you ESO+ members, you don't have to put all your crafting eggs in one basket. Your supply bag is shared amongst your characters, just like your bank. So if you don't want to waste skill points on your favorite character because you want to max out all of the crafting skills, spread out your crafting. Me personally, I use my main DK tank as a master blacksmith/wood worker, and my stamblade as a clothing/enchanter. If you obtain a piece of medium gear on your character that's a blacksmith, throw it in the bank and use your clothing skilled character to take it out and deconstruct/research it. The con to this is motifs. For example, my blacksmith/wood worker main has the Daedric motif, which makes some bad ass armor, but my clothing character can't use that crafting style.

  • Researching Very important!!! If you do want to craft, and craft yourself a set of armor that provides set bonuses, you need to research traits. If you have an item that has a trait, for example, a heavy helmet with the training trait (which gives bonuses to experience gained) you can sacrifice it at the appropriate crafting station (anvil for blacksmithing in this case) and you learn that trait. So at the cost of that one helmet, you can craft any heavy helmet with the training trait. Training traits are particularly special because it's nice to have a set of 'training' gear, where all of your gear has the training trait and increases your experience earned. For crafted armor sets, you need to have a certain number of traits researched to be able to craft that set. For example, north east of Auridon is a special crafting station where you can craft Death's Wind armor, as long as you have two traits researched for that item. The traits are specific for the piece, so if you're doing a full set of Death's Wind gear, you'll need two traits researched for each piece of armor/weapon. Start researching ASAP if you want to use crafted armor sets, with max skills the first trait takes 4 hours, but the time increases as you research more traits. The 4th of 5th trait takes 1-3 days depending on skills!

  • Leveling up You can level up anyway you want, whether it be quests, farming mobs, or running dungeons. My advice – quest. Questing gives you everything you need in this game while you level. Zone storylines give skill points, and while you're questing you'll find skyshards. Another thing you'll get from questing – gear! I used whatever gear I got from drops or quests as upgrades, and deconstructed/researched whatever I couldn't wear or use as an upgrade. Quests also give gold, which will stack up nicely as you go, though it's not a great primary source of gold. Aside from all of the items, skills, and money you get from questing, questing is an enjoyable experience in this game. They have interesting storylines and you won't get bored with quests like you would with farming mobs.

  • Dungeons Dungeons are a great addition to do alongside quests, because they also give you gear, money, and skill points. But for new, low level players – be cautious. If you can run them effectively and not drag your group down – great! I started when I was level 10, and even though everything scales, gear and lack of skills will make you a liability. Don't be that guy. Don't be the inexperienced, low skill/geared tank or healer that can't get through one boss, or even the mobs. I realized that my groups in dungeons were failing because I lacked DPS, or wasn't a good tank. It's ok if you can't do the dungeon, just don't queue up and go quest to get better gear and more skills. This is important for tanks and healers, if you're a bad tank or healer and you can't make it through a boss, you're screwing the other three over. Be mindful and have a sense of situational awareness, know when you're the weak link and accept that you're not ready to do the dungeon. You'll understand this more once you're a higher level and see low levels come in and cause you to get wrecked.

  • PVP Same as dungeons above, don't go into Cyrodiil thinking that because it 'scales' that you'll be fine. Unless you're ok with being useless and dying over and over again, avoid Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil is my main reason for existence in this game, and when I was new I thought I'd 'live' there and level up/gear by doing nothing but PVP. I learned quickly that I was useless, it wasn't fun, and it wouldn't work. If you're ok with that – go for it! Have fun, play the game as you want! But this is my advice, since I did it. Side note this is a game, have fun no matter what. I absolutely love Cyrodiil but holy hell, some of the people in this game are cancerous. This is where I stray away from game advice and give life advice, be happy. This is all pixels on a screen, don't rage over one person on the other team to 23 other people over comms because they're better than you at a video game. I've ran in multiple EP groups and I usually end up leaving because the NA PS4 EP people are so angry. I switch over to my AD character because the thought of those raging nerds makes me sick. I've never understood raging over a game. It's pixels, if you die, smile and say 'DAMNIT' or something, no need to rage.

  • Mounts Train your mount!!! Every 20 hours you can upgrade speed, stamina, or carrying capacity, do it!! I'm not saying set an alarm, because I totally didn't do that [;)] but don't forget to train your mount :)

This is all I can think of right now. I'm sure more will come, but this is all stuff I wish I had read or learned about earlier. I'm totally down for anyone to disagree and counter argue, nothing beats a healthy debate! It's all opinions, if any of my facts are wrong please let me know!

TL;DR Build your own playstyle, don't start off chasing a websites suggested build. Craft as you go and research (research ASAP) if you're interested in those. Quest and run dungeons to level up, but don't be the guy that causes your group to not be able to run dungeons. Level up/gear up more if that's the case, then re-try dungeons. Don't try to live off of Cyrodiil as a low level unless it makes you happy, then go for it. Also – don't be a raging dick.

Can someone help clarify this please? I want to become a vampire for the mag and stam recovery, but I'm not sure exactly how it works? How do I get to the different stages? If I get to a stage, how do I stay there? Any help would be great.

[advice needed] What's the cheapest way to buy all 4 DLC's?

Posted: 28 Jun 2017 02:32 AM PDT

Hi guys,

As a casual on/off player of ESO (so subscirption isn't really an option, i have periods of weeks without logging in) I started thinking about buying all 4 DLC's and in the future the Morrowind expac.

What would be the cheapest way to buy them?

  • pay the 5500 crowns for the pack?

  • can i buy them separately from other websites for cheaper?

  • can i buy the gold edition with all the DLC's and add it to my account or it'll ask for a new account to be opened? thanks for the helpers !

What in the world is going on with chain CC?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 10:05 PM PDT

I noticed in a duel with a stamblade tonight that he was able to stun me and then immediately follow up with Fear after I would break free, well within the immunity window. The two could be applied back to back consistently, regardless of whether I would break free or not. Is this a known exploit or did I just experience some latency/server hiccups?

Noob-ish questions

Posted: 28 Jun 2017 01:29 AM PDT

So I've finally hit 50 and only have 100 CP and now I have a ton more questions than when I started.

It seems that gear is really hard to keep up with? It seems that the stats on my gear decrease as I gain CP? I feel weaker now than when I hit 50. I assume if this is so, it's because of the 160 CP cap and will stop? How do you keep up with gear? I stole a plain-ole white staff from a woodworker that had more damage than I had...

How do you find a guild? I wasn't too worried about it previously as I really didn't have anything to offer. Playing this game like solo like Skyrim is getting old though. I'm on Xbone. Do we have a general chat like other MMO's?

Guides I have found to get CP fast say to get a training set. Is this the crafted set? Am I going to run into the same issue of outleveling it too fast and not being worth finding a crafter?

How do you find players to group or grind with? I guess that relates to the guild questions. I've gone to a couple of the "grind spots" I've found online and might find a player but they don't want my invites. :-P

Edit additional question:

If I were to try to buy gear it would be at the guild trader stations? Usually I can find anything at them. I assume it's because people don't stay in the pre-160 range very often? Or do I just suck at trying to find items?

As always thank you for your help. This subreddit has been super helpful and it has been greatly appreciated!

[Discussion] When does Naryu recognize you?

Posted: 27 Jun 2017 04:00 PM PDT

So I've met Naryu (who is an awesome character) in the base game, although not completed the quest chain involving her. I recently got the Morrowind chapter, and ran into her in Balmora. She didn't recognize me at all despite our interactions in the inn and at the farm in Mournhold.

I've read that if you meet her in Mournhold after doing her questline in Morrowind she's supposed to reference your earlier meeting and actions, but does it not work the other way around? Does it only happen if you get all the way to the end of the Mournhold questline first?

Tl;dr - When does senpai notice me?

Help with builds and morrowind

Posted: 28 Jun 2017 12:25 AM PDT

Hey so after looking for a new mmorpg i saw Milk Viper streaming this game and it looks very good-very good streamer btw !

I also figured that i have an old account from 2014! And because of lags / delays in release i stopped playing and forgot about it

So i installed it again and have some questions

Mostly about about builds - Like which ones should i go for as a new player? Does weapon swapping is a must in the game ? I dont really like that but played like that b4

Also , if i make some wrong calls about stats and skill points im screwed? If yes , then i need a specefic builds to follow by

Looking for DPs fun builds , dont really care which class

Now Regardig Morrowind , i dont have it , as a new player does not having it affects me in some way ? Or its only for late game content

Also , why Twitch stream only PS4 users ?

I thought this game player base is only around 13k because Steam stats But now i realise there are also standalone launcher players on PC Ps4 and Xbox so thats great to hear

One last thing, can i play this game casual? WoW forced me to be in raids , do weekly and dailys and i felt slaved to the game , im not looking fir another MmO like this _^

Sry for typos(using my iphone ) and thanks for any help!

Question for the vets. Thief or Shadow.

Posted: 28 Jun 2017 03:59 AM PDT

See This is not for trials just running with group with guildies in vet dungeons and stuff. Character stats for my stam warden are self buffed is 4120 weapon damage 64% crit. 5 piece hunding and 5 piece spriggans two hand on front and bow on back. Ok my question is I was reading in some post from awhile back that if you are over 47% crit chance Shadow will out do the thief mundus. When I take the thief off I'm at 48% crit chance and my crits go from 26k to 32k. There are times when I can go a couple swings and don't crit. So which is better critical chance or having my crits do more damage. like I said this isn't for competitive trials or anything that's what my sorc is for and my tank...will I truly out dps crit over crit damage...thanks forgot to mention I'm a redguard.

Question about buying ESO on Steam if I already have a Non-Steam ESO Account.

Posted: 28 Jun 2017 03:57 AM PDT

I already have a Non-Steam ESO Account without the Morrowind Addon, but what happend if I buy ESO again on Steam + the Morrowind addon when my Steam Account uses the same Email as my Non-Steam ESO Account. Will that upgrade my already existet Account because of the same Email or will that create a complete new ESO Account?
