My one problem with Serana and the Dawnguard storyline

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:31 AM PDT

I recently finished the DLC for the first time and loved all the new locations, different characters, new items and spells. And I had no major problems with the story either (imo it was a lot better than the Main Quest). But the only thing that bugged me was Serana, or rather the dialogue options when speaking with or about her. My issue is that the game expects every player to immediately like Serana and want to protect her and such. What if my characted (I) disliked her (which he (I) did). Dialogue options like "I would never hurt Serana!" or "She's too important to me!" or "Now do you trust her?" really bugged me. There was never an option to not trust her

Frostfall and Live Another Life gave me the most memorable start of a new game...

Posted: 04 May 2017 02:13 AM PDT

From time to time, I start a fresh new game. But I never used Live Another Life since yesterday, so the start to a different playthrough was all the same (Helgen etc.).
First off, confronted with all the possible options, I thought about the backstory of my character in detail for the first time.
Usually, he/she got caught in Skyrim, for whatever reason and it goes from there.

But in this mod, I know thought Well, ok. The character is shipwrecked. I'll have to think of her motives to go on that ship in the first place... But decided to think about that during the start of the game (to see where the playthrough actually starts):

So after lying down in the bed, my character regained consciousness floating in ice-cold water within an upside-down ship. With Frostfall enabled, she had to get out of the water as fast as she could. So she snatched up some things and made her way out of the ship. Standing on top of the upside-down wreck was more than disencouraging. Ice-cold water everywhere. Just there at the south-east the silhouette of the College of Winterhold.

That gave me the idea: Yes! She wanted to reach Skyrim to go to the College of Winterhold. So she is a magician (to some extent).

In an act of desperation, she casted a (lousy) pillar of flames in the sky, seconds before she fainted. I really did not know what happens in Frostfall if it gets too cold, so that moment was kinda shocking.

She regained consciousness (the second time that day) at an abandoned fireplace with a letter from her saviors. Some pilgrims rescued her, and on that occasion took a good amount of her money.

But although just having miner clothes and an iron dagger, she was ashore and warmed up. But reaching Winterhold would be another adventure. For example, she had to run from "imperial soldiers" (the dead bodies around those "Imperial soldiers" spoke another story) who were asking her for 100 Gold "toll", which she did not have.

This got way longer than I expected, but I just wanted to share why those two mods gave me (literally) chills and immediatly gave the playthrough (and the player-character) a unique feeling. I guess, I'm totally into roleplaying now.

I would like to recommend the 'Forbidden Legend' quest, its amazing!

This quest was triggered for me by collecting a book, but there seem to be other ways to trigger it.

In any case, this quest involves a great backstory, visiting multiple dungeons and without spoiling too much, the final boss fight felt like a great Dark Souls moment, really unique quest!

Something I thought should have happened at the end of the dawnguard storyline (spoilers)

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:47 PM PDT

The ending seems so abrupt and it's even worse if you play as a vampire. I think it would have been a neat idea to make the dragonborn decide at the end between his friendship with serana or the dawnguard. Have Isran attempt to attack her at the end and you get to decide wether you kill serana or save her. I'm sure most people would save her but it would've added something more to the ending. What do you think?

I just started playing Skyrim again after a few years. Though it's one of my first screenshots, I think it'll be my favorite for a while.
