Like this.   It's not just about the free pack. 70% of the games I play are Tavern Brawl. I have no interest in competitive play and I enjoy playing with fresh rules every week.

EDIT: I see alot of people talking about money for some reason...

"Hey look, I'm a rank 15-10 guy and I will pay 10$ to play heroic brawl. Oh wait, they moved the heroic brawl to another button ? nvrmind then I'm not playing."

This is not how it works. If you were willing to play heroic, you will play it even if we had a normal taven brawl with it, running at the same time.

Why doesn't the murloc eating crab glow orange?

Posted: 03 May 2017 06:32 AM PDT

The murloc eating crab doesn't glow in orange when he has a meal available unlike his brother the pirates eating crab ... Huge inconsistency , game is unplayable now. THANKS BBRODE.

This set proves that Blizz does know something about making their game, but the lack of features is still disheartening.

Posted: 03 May 2017 04:49 AM PDT

Last night, one of my Shadowverse friends said he's fed up with the meta there (it's in a horrible state right now), and I suggested to him to try Hearthstone, despite the prejudice, because the meta right now is really great. And it was a slight struggle, not because of card acquisition, only stuff like:

"I can see only 8 cards a page?"

"How do I see what a card summons?"

"No deck codes?"

A ton of features which Shadowverse and other competitors have, but Hearthstone lacks.

Blizzard. With Un'Goro you've show that you can design a good set. The meta is at its peak point of the entire history. But a lot of the game still looks like it was in beta.

If heroic tavern brawls are becoming more common, please make them a separate game mode so they dont replace normal brawl

Posted: 02 May 2017 05:50 PM PDT

heroic brawl appeals to a very small minority, the small percent who have gold/cash to drop on this can play it, but i would like to play normal tavern brawl as well. so why cant we have both, shouldn't take away normal brawl to appeal to such a small portion of players

The Explore Un'Goro card should lower the cost of cards discovered by 1.

Posted: 02 May 2017 05:11 PM PDT

Explore Un'Goro is a fun card, and while I can't imagine it being viable in ranked for awhile, it would at least have a use if the cards discovered were lowered by one, since you're overpaying by 1 mana each time you choose a card.

If this has been stated before, I apologize. I also understand a large portion don't like the rng cards as well, with renounce darkness being the only other card that has more rng than this card. I don't intend it to ruin ranked, I merely want to see a card that makes sense to use, otherwise it's just a waste.

EU Top 100 Legend Data

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:59 AM PDT

I took the post from a couple days back where some random dude flamed he was 25 times top 100 legend on EU as an inspiration and wondered who were actually the top performing ranked players and how often they reached top 100 legend on EU since the release of Hearthstone.

Ranked by the number of appearances:

(player name, # of top 100 finishes, average rank)

first place: Kolento, 19, 23.42 Lucky, 19, 51.37 Casie, 19, 58.26

second place: Maverick, 18, 31.33 ШтанУдачи, 18, 31.5

third place: Xixo, 17, 14.11

So as you can see nobody actually reached top 100 legend on EU 25 times since the release, but three people managed an impressive score of 19 top 100 finishes.

If you want to look at another ranking, the best performing players in terms of average rank (for people who reached top 100 legend on EU 5 or more times):

first place: Naiman, 7, 10.43

second place: Pavel, 9, 10.66

third place: Juristis, 5, 12.8

It was a tedious work to copy all the rankings from the blizz blog, so if anybody wants to do other rankings, or maybe some graphics with the data here is the raw data for you to use: https://pastebin.com/MwtKR1Ae

The data contains the name, the rank and a date, but the day does not mean anything, so 01/03/2017 is the March Season 2017 (I had to choose an arbitrary day to fit it in a date format). Unfortunately by the time of writing this post the April Season 2017 rankings have not yet been posted.

TLDR; Nobody actually reached top 100 legend on EU 25 times (yet), but Kolento, Lucky and Casie managed impressive 19 times!

Pace of the Meta: Un'Goro vs. Gadgetzan - 67M replays analyzed

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:01 AM PDT

Hi /r/hearthstone, im back with another large-scale replays analysis. Again, big thanks to the guys over at HSReplay.net!

This time, we analyzed the pace of the meta across the last 3 patches (7.0 - MSG, 7.1 - MSG and 8.0 - UNG). Many have speculated on the pace of the current meta. With the dominance of pure aggressive decks like Pirate Warrior and Aggro Shaman during MSG, you might be forgiven for thinking its slowed down with Un'Goro (I know that's what I thought going in).

In reality however, we found the complete opposite. Fast decks are little slower but slow decks are getting much faster due to "game ending" mechanics like Jade and Quest.

For the full analysis, check out the write-up. Article: https://hsreplay.net/articles/14/pace-of-the-meta-ungoro-vs-gadgetzan

My friend just got Legend just by playing, never read a thing about the game.

Posted: 03 May 2017 02:20 AM PDT

I've found this pretty fascinating and inspiring. He is only been playing for two months and he never heard about terms like Aggro, Control, Midrange, Meta, Topdeck, Lethal, etc. He just played.

He stuck to mage and already got the golden portrait. Just used other classes for quests because he does not have alot of cards.

Here I am reading tips, trying different type of decks, lurking /r/CompetitiveHS, etc. While I should just play 1 class and stick to it.

Note: He got his decks from HearthPwn, but I really doubt he read any guides associated with the decks or else he would of known what "meta" or "aggro" means. I asked him the day before he got legend: "how do you deal with aggro druid". He was like: "Aggro? What's that? I hate all the trees, I know that". I was bamboozled.

TL;DR: He picked mage, never read, just played, got legend, bamboozled me.

Edit: Got legend last season. f2p btw.

Just played my first hour long game and it was the most fun I've ever had playing this game

Posted: 03 May 2017 01:29 AM PDT

TLDR below.

So much happened in this game that I can't even begin to explain. Like it was honestly absurd and it was such a relief from the heavy aggro decks I've been facing. I've been playing for about a month now and I feel like more thought and process went into this game than all the other ones combined.

By the end of it, each player probably played 50+ cards and I had to have healed for 60+. I was a Quest Priest - I have some experience of playing it but tonight I crafted N'Zoth, so I looked up online, and came across this deck by Trump:

http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/773044-trumps-ungoro-theorycraft-quest-nzoth-priest

And what did I see on the other side of the battlefield? A Golden Warrior, perhaps the first one I saw. I was like oh man, this is it for me.

Turn 1 passes and he doesn't play anything, so I start to wonder what's going on. By turn 4/turn 5 he had close to 30 health+20 armor. All this guy played was +armor, taunt minions, "deathrattle: shuffle a card" etc. It was clearly meant for fatigue because this guy was not dying anytime soon.

I knew I was in for a long one, because I figured I was drawing decently enough to sustain myself, and he wasn't even trying to clear board or hit face. Interesting I thought, just armor up like crazy and play a taunt minion here or there, while I skiddadle around trying to finish up my quest.

Turns are well thought out at this point around turn 6-8, things are picking up.

I don't remember exactly what happened, but I ended up putting a very good board out and he cleared it with Brawl. It was 6 minions of mine, 1 of his. And he kept his minion.

No worries I thought. Now here is where I have no idea what the hell happened. Somewhere along the line, I think it was my Crystalline Oracles, but I picked up Elise the Trailblazer from his deck. Cool I thought. I noticed it was now in my hand. Pretty awesome.

At this point he was starting to pick up serious momentum and I dropped to around 11 health, and that's when I cast Amara. Things were looking good again as I was up to 40 health, was looking good overall.

Couple small skirmishes went back and forth and I ended up casting Elise. Things were relatively even at this point, and it started turning into a longer game.

Once I got around to that shuffled Un Goro pack, I played it... got another Elise. He ended up playing N'Zoth and took serious board control, maxing it out... but just as luck would have it, I ended up taking a Brawl from him earlier on. Once again the momentum of the game shifted in my favor, but I had no clear cut path to victory just yet.

That's when I played my N'Zoth, and low and behold, it got countered with another Brawl. He must've figured out I was going to play it eventually and he held onto that Brawl all game.

I played a ton of my Un'Goro pack cards and then eventually the second Elise, and things started getting down to the wire. I had like 8-9 cards, he was sitting around 3-4, cards, but kept picking really good cards that were 6-9 with taunt.

Fatigue was hitting me hard and stacking up, hitting for 4, then 5, then 6. And I was down to about 22 health. What happened next, you say?

I played a card which I never played before, it got into my hand via the Un Goro deck. It was... Kalimos, Primal Lord. Boom! Just what I needed. I had no idea what an elemental invocation was so I couldn't wait to cast it. Boom! 12 more HP. Just enough to survive and keep pushing through.

After what felt like eternity, I finally bested him, with it coming down to the wire.

TL;DR

Trump's N'Zoth Quest Priest (me) vs an extremely heavy fatigue armor golden taunt warrior. Game lasts an hour. He has tons of +armor, +draw, +new cards in his deck, etc. I somehow luckily draw 2x Elise the Trailblazer when I don't even own the card. After 60+ healing against his +30 armor, I won after fatigueing down to 15 health, healing up with an elemental invocation which was also not in my deck. Moves were well thought out, game lasted close to an hour, loads of fun.

I just realized why I love this game so much: it's 1v1 so no one starts blaming me if I make a mistake

Posted: 02 May 2017 11:33 AM PDT

Really. It's that simple. Even with all the problems Hearthstone is still my fav game. I recently started playing Overwatch and HOTS and in both games if something is wrong more or less someone will start flaming me: "you are doing this wrong", "why did you pick this hero", "you lost because of you" etc. I guess everyone knows what I'm talking about.... In Hearthstone I can only blame myself if I lose. Or the RNG. But that's still better than getting flamed on your very first match by some random other player.

Players

Team China

Chinese Team Picture

OMJasonZhou

Jason Zhou has recently won the 2017 Gold Super Premier Spring (which gives him the ticket to the next HCT Champs); he is also the winner of the 2016 Super Premier Summer. Jason was also among the top 4 in the 2016 BlizzCon and did well against North America players in the CN vs. NA back in Jan, 2017. So it's suffice to say that JasonZhou is a decorated veteran and have ample experience in both domestic and international stages. Jason will have the chance to face Pavel who defeated him in the BlizzCon last year. His quest for revenge will be something that fans will be very interested.

OmegaZero

Omega won the 2016 Super Premier Fall season and that year's Gold Hearthstone Grand Final. Despite faltered in the group stage of BlizzCon, Omega's skill hasn't seen any diminishing. Most of the EU players have said that the CN player that they are most impressed with is Omega.

LovelyChook

A fan favorite in China, LovelyChook has never ceased to bring excitement to the local HS fans. He won the 2015 Gold Hearthstone Final at the age of 17, and defeated Kolento (or "K God" a nickname coined by CN HS fans) in last year's CN vs. EU to bring home the Ferrari. In the Winter Champs in the Bahamas, LovelyChook also made it into the top 8, but defeated by ShtanUdachi who later became the tournament winner. With Kolento and Shtan both on the EU roster, whether LovelyChook can defend his title and bring home another Ferrari is what fans are intrigued about.

OMXHope

A grass-root player who emerged from the Stone League (an open-to-all grass-root event where players played in local internet café, and gradually progress from city level to provincial to regional then national. I.e.: Detroit → State of Michigan → North East region → All America), and eventually find himself playing on the international stage. 3rd in the 2016 Super Premier Summer; 2nd place in the 2016 Gold Hearthstone Final; one of the top 8 in the 2017 HCT Winter Champs and runner-up in the recent 2017 Super Premier Spring. Hope has proven himself that he has what it takes to become an elite HS player, and he has also stated several times that he really looking forward to win a tournament.

哈姆士郎/ Hamster

Quiet, reserved and very low profile, Hamster has a very unique view to the game and he always play with confidence and determination which won him a lot of support from the community. In last year's BlizzCon, he is the only player who brought Priest and Paladin decks and made it all the way to the top 8. His catch phrase "make friends" has since become a meme in the HS community. So let's see if Hamster can make some new "friends" in the 2017 CN vs. EU.

驴鸽/ LvGe

LvGe made into the 2017 HCT Winter Champs by winning the 3rd place in the Gold Hearthstone Grand Final. He did relatively well and was one of the top 8 in the Bahamas. He also played in the CN vs. NA and helped China won the tournament. LvGe has been very consistent since the end of last year, and have played with a lot of top players in the world. Let's see if he can bring us any surprises in the coming event.

悟空丶特兰克斯/ Trunks

Trunks is a dark horse that has recently emerged from the Super Premier Spring. He is number 1 ranked in the group stage with a record of 6-1. In the Round of 8, he was on top again with 6-2 which left viewers in awe. What Trunks is lacking is that he didn't have much experience in playing on big stages, so when he advanced into the semi-final, against more experienced opponent, he seems to unable to find his rhythm.

ahqDogggg

Dogggg is a journey man but his best performance thus far is breaking into the top 8 in the Grand Open Series in Chongqing. He won the 3rd place in the 2017 Gold Super Premier Spring. For him, able to play on international stage is definitely a career high for him.

Team Europe

Europe Team Picture

Kolento

Kolento, or K-God, won the China Grand Golden Open Tournament last week. He came to china early to participate in this 2048 man open tournament and scout the chinese meta. After focusing on his stream for so long and not competing in many events it seems Kolento is still ready to play at the highest level. All of the chinese team fears Kolento and calls his K-God.

Orange

Orange has had a long standing hearthstone career being one of the longest sticking players in the GosuGamers top 10 rankings. And recently he's really been killing it. With 1st at SeatStory Cup VI, 2nd WESG Qualifier Event, 2nd WESG Main Event. Earning over 85k in prize-money in the last couple of months. This is a player that can adapt to new meta and is always hot when an expansion drops.

Pavel

2016 Hearthstone World Championship. And already a 1st place title under his belt for 2017 with the Kinguin For Charity event. Pavel is definitely a force to be reckon with.

Rdu

A staple in the tournament scene since 2014. RDU is a player that has lasted the test of time. Taking many 1st places and 2nd places a long the way. 2017 he took 2nd in Zagreb Gaming Arena, falling to SuperJJ. Looking to get his 1st place for this year still as he is a player that has a 1st place at-least once a year since 2014.

ShtanUdachi

First real break out performance was 2017 Hearthstone Winter Championship where Shtan took down Fr0zen in the finals. Many players credit their decks to Shtan and such decks a few expansions back as Tempo Mage, Tempo Warrior are credited to him. He does not seem like he is going to be a one and done kind of player. Shtan is looking to show why his peers respect him so much, and become a staple in the scene.

SuperJJ

Although some of you may have heard that JJ has started playing GWENT with his practice partner Lifecoach, he is still in top form. He recently defeated RDU in the Zagreb Gaming Arena to take 1st place. JJ is a strong player, and credits it all to hard work. At times, he practiced 100 hours a week with his practice companion Lifecoach.

Xixo

Recently, qualified to and took 4th in WESG 2016. Xixo is a player that has always been on top of the tournament scene and done well in majors. He is usually shaping the meta with his decks and optimizing them before other players can. He is often credited for discovering secret paladin in the Archon Team League.
