Are we still getting one more DLC or Halo 5 or are those totally done?

Posted: 03 May 2017 03:45 PM PDT

There was supposedly a tier 3 grenade launcher, plasma launcher and some scopes that may have been coming. Has there been any indication that they're done or continuing with DLC for Halo 5?

Instead of going back to the roots, how about growing new roots along with the old?

Spartan Charge, certain maps designs and other gameplay elements can be modified or tuned. Why can't we just improve instead of remove? Some people hated Sprint in Halo 4/Reach until Halo 5 brought a true balance to it. This resulted people to love or be neutral with Sprint. Let's fix stuff.

Fixing Spartan Charge:

  • Remove Aim Assist so that it requires more skill to use. This will punish players who use it recklessly when they missed.

Balancing Clamber and Crouch Jumping on Maps:

  • Certain fans wanted Clamber to be removed because it weakens crouch jumping on specific ledges of a map to enhance their strafing. Increasing the speed of the jump would make it as competive as Clamber so players have 2 choices of scaling Mobility. With the increase in jumping speed, players can jump and land faster. I think Clamber should stay as a common way of moving smoothly around maps but skilled players can use their crouch jump for more ways of moving.

Map designs:

  • Halo 5 has not much memorial maps compared to Halo 4/3. Maps need to be more creative and forge with a mindset of jumping and art style. I personally do not want to see remix count as a new map in 343i's Eyes.

I've heard plenty say that Halo's dip in sales numbers is solely due to the introduction of new mechanics, yet Gears of War 4, a game maintaining classic gameplay, sold significantly worse than any other entry in its main series.

Posted: 03 May 2017 06:21 AM PDT

One argument I constantly hear on this sub is that Halo's sales numbers have fallen solely because of the changes bungie and 343 have implemented into the series since its peak of Halo 3. While I don't doubt the sales numbers have decreased, I do not think they are significantly less than other entries in the franchise except for 3, which sold a whopping 12 million. The other entries sold around 6-7 million. We don't have exact numbers on Halo 5, but we do know it sold around 5 million in the first 3 months. The argument continues by saying that if Halo returned to a more classic style, sales would drastically increase. I don't buy this.

Microsoft's number 2 franchise, Gears of War, demonstrates why I don't accept this argument. The gameplay in Gears of War 4 is, for all intents and purposes, just a refined version of the gameplay we saw in Gears 1, 2, and 3. Despite this retention of a classic styled game, Gears 4 reportedly had sales figures closer to the spinoff Judgment than it did to to others in the main series. Despite having a larger install base, Gears 4 sold roughly one third as many copies as Gears 3, the least selling game of the original trilogy.

Now I know what you are going to say. "But /u/pvijay187, Gears Judgement was the game that changed everything and it was the worst selling!" Well that's true, but Judgement was also on the same engine, with a B team, and was never meant to stand toe to toe with main-line games of the series in the ways Halo Reach or Halo 5 were. I don't think it is fair to compare Judgement, which was an admittedly smaller project, into the same conversation as the true bigger budget entries in the series.

So why did gears sell so poorly (in comparison to previous entries)? Was it the microtransactions? Was it series fatigue? Was it the evolution of consumer tastes? The changing gaming landscape? To be honest, we don't know, but in reality it was probably a combination of several things.

Using Gears as a foil to Halo, I think it is clear why blaming Halo's decline (although less than Gears) soley on new mechanics isn't fair or realistic. I wont deny that the new mechanics probably turned some off from the game, but just like with gears, things like series fatigue, evolution of customer tastes, the changing game landscape, as well as dozens of other factors played a large roll in the resultant figures. Also just like with gears, I strongly believe that returning to a more classic style of gameplay won't result in a magical increase in sales, otherwise GoW 4 should have sold just as well as others in the series.

Now I am NOT saying that it isnt prudent or worthwhile to talk about changes we want or dont want to see in Halo, that is a discussion that always NEEDS to happen. What I am saying is that don't use sales figures as a justification that your argument is right or your opponent's argument is wrong, because it is clear that sales are far more complex than just one issue.

I am also NOT saying you should or should not enjoy a game based on how much it has sold. It's funny, I NEVER EVER see the GoW community talk about how much a certain game in the series has sold, or how high ranked GoW 4 is on the most played section, but I see that constantly in the Halo community.

Here are some sources I used. I realize VGZ is not the most reliable source, so I included other articles as well. MS doesn't release sales figures for anything.

Genuine question for those who want a return to classic gameplay

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:12 AM PDT

Hey there r/halo! I'd like to preface this with saying that I am just here to ask for some answers from the community for my own (and possibly others) edification. I would like this to be a very wholesomememe-esque discussion about the desires of the side of the community that wants a return to classic style gameplay for very valid reasons.

Now my actual question: To what extent would you like the next Halo game to return to classic style? Would that revert ALL multiplayer back to classics, maybe even the entirety of the game (campaign, multiplayer, warzone), or would just classic ranked, social, and warzone playlists be acceptable?

I myself love Halo 5 and all the spartan abilities (spartan charge and sprint included) because it simply makes me feel like a badass and It's fast paced and, when my aim isn't absolute shit, the abilities allow me to pull off some really cool plays. And I know that it has been shown that Halo 5 is not as fast paced as past Halos but how it FEELS is more important to me than that. I completely understand and respect the complaints of the community, I have some myself (heavy aim, smurfs, and the game shipped in a incomplete state). However, I'd like to know more about the ideal gameplay mechanics in future titles for this discussion and how 343 could theoretically accommodate both sides of the aisle.

If you see a comment you disagree with, please be courteous and offer a kind rebuttal. Everyone here has valid opinions so please do be respectful to your fellow r/halo-ers.

Very noticeable difference in aiming going from American servers to ANZ servers.

Posted: 03 May 2017 05:31 PM PDT

Not sure if this has been brought up before in regards to the 'heavy aim' discussion, but I'm an Australian player who was playing expanded on the HCS playlist yesterday (All American servers) and the aiming felt really good! I got a bit bored of playing laggy games though so I joined an ANZ custom and found the aiming to be horrible - it felt really 'loose' in a sense. I'm not sure how the aiming itself is tied to the servers but there is a very noticeable difference going between servers.

When I say 'loose' I mean it feels really off - like there's some input delay looking around. It's actually really bad. If any 343 employee would like to join one of my games later on to see what I mean then please contact me.

I was discussing with some friends about how do you piss inside the Mjolnir armor, one of my friends argued that the armor has some kind of filter for body fluids, however, how do they cope with poop? Does the official canon states something about pooping?

Why does there continue to be a lack of proper Halo on PC?

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:59 PM PDT

I am an avid PC gamer. I love Halo. Therefore I own an Xbox solely for Halo and no other reason. I understand that Microsoft and 343 has been "trying" over the past couple of years. 2 mobile games, a very very limited version of 5 for free, and the Halo Wars series have released in the past decade to PC. Arguably the most well received out of this group would be the Wars series. The first actual console versions to make their way to the PC since Halo 2 was used for Windows Live on Vista.

I believe that there is a common misconception by some that due to sales and downloads of some of the above games that there is not a demand for Halo on the PC. If anything, this is a half truth. There is not a demand for what Microsoft has been giving us on PC. The community would happily eat up any mainline FPS they decided to release.

2 obvious examples that there is a demand for Halo FPS on PC come in the form of the original Combat Evolved and the now dead Halo Online. I got back and play Halo Combat Evolved from time as it is the only Halo game we have for PC and there are still active servers filled with players, and the mod community is stronger than ever working hard to bring the main console experience to PC using the only game that we have available to do so. Stuff like SPV3. Real high quality stuff. Then there was Dewrito. This was the community rising up and saying we want Halo and we will get it any way we can. The fact that people were willing to spend all that time and effort to bring a shoddy free to play FPS version of Halo into working order for the rest of the world should speak volumes to Microsoft about the demand for this type of gameplay. Now there aren't as many players on this version as the original game, Combat Evolved, but there is an active player base. Dewrito is also likely an embarrassment to Microsoft that they would want to do away with and can with the release of another Halo to PC with proper MP.

Now I know that we are supposedly getting 6 when it releases. I am not holding my breath on that one to be honest. This is so far out still, and Windows Store could simply die far before this becomes reality as no one really likes it. I also understand that they don't want to decrease console sales. But on the flip side, we are years in the life cycle of this current console generation, so I don't really see console sales as a relevant excuse any more. Anyone that wanted an Xbox One already has one, but there is far more money to be made with the software releasing on multiple platforms that Microsoft owns.
