Who in the heck is stacking all these cars on top of each other??

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:32 AM PDT

Like I would imagine that the cars are heavy much like modern day cars. So who is stacking them all up together? Like building fortresses and all kinds of stuff. Is it the super mutants?

Attention to detail in New Vegas still blows me away

Posted: 03 May 2017 01:07 AM PDT

The game has been out for nearly 7 years now but I only just noticed that on the radio news report regarding the dispute between NCR squatters and the Kings gang that the King quotes they are "the Devil in Disguise" and that a mass "Return to sender" was in order...both of which are the titles of Elvis Presley songs.

Thought I would post this neat little tidbit as I saw a post a few days ago where someone finally realized the origin of the town name 'NoVac' which produces a fascinating thread of comments.

Happy travels to all you Couriers/Wanderers out there!

Why I think fallout 4 open world is more boring than Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas

Posted: 03 May 2017 05:06 AM PDT

This is not a hate post, it's just my opinion about Fallout 4 world and why I find it much more boring to explore than other fallout titles.

While I played Fallout 4 for the first time I didn't notice it, I didn't know why exploring wasn't just fun for me, but after playing New Vegas and Fallout 3 again I've discovered why (IMO).
There are some reasons why I find Fallout 4 boring to explore but I think the biggest reason is the lack of variety.
There are too many Raiders and Super mutants in this game, as you move through the city, it's as almost each location feel the same, there are just a bunch of Raiders in every corner which gets boring, quickly.
At the start of the game you fight too many Raiders and Super mutants. Yes you get the deathclaw fight at the start but it doesn't feel epic at all, you already know the outcome of the battle.

Now let's talk about exploring interiors.
I don't like it, it's like they gave each interior location a "dungeon" sort of feel, they like took the idea from Skyrim and thought it would fit this game.
You start at the beginning of the interior, you follow the path, fight some Raiders or whatever is in there and then when you reach the end there is some loot and you can unlock a door which back tracks all the way to the start of the interior.
While this is fine in Skyrim, in Fallout it doesn't work, these locations feel really not fun to explore, there isn't a sense of realism in them (not all the interiors are like that but there are a lot like this, there are even main quests that uses them).
I never did know why I liked exploring interiors in New Vegas was so much fun but Fallout 4 thought me why, each interior in NV feel unique and real, they are not designed as "dungeons", they are designed as how real interiors would look.
Want to go out of the interior? there's isn't a "chained door" you can unlock and suddenly you are at the start of it, you have to go all the way back like it should be.

That's just my opinion about things, I just want to say I love fallout, I spent probably more than 2k hours on NV, and god knows how many hours on Fallout 3.
I know this topic about Fallout 4 being less good than other fallout titles is getting annoying and old but I just want to hear other people opinions about the matter and also share mine.

After 20 years, Shady Sands' foundation date is finally known (in other words, Fallout 1's lore is...)

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:10 AM PDT

Fallout 4 gets a lot of flak around these parts for its lore (a sentiment I vehemently disagree with, but that's a separate topic), but many, many users forget that Fallout wasn't in tip-top shape when it comes to lore - ever.

I love Fallout 1 as much as the next person, since I pretty much grew up with it (and NMA), but when you try to make heads or tails of the tremendous amount of cut content or lore, it can be... Ornery. Difficult to reconcile. Or impossible, even. Now:

https://fallout.gamepedia.com/Shady_Sands#History

  1. While the Bible's timeline draft pegs it as 2141, that date is about as incorrect as it can be, given the evolution - and the fact that Jarvis identifies the founder as Aradesh's ancestor, rather than Aradesh himself. Short of there being some weird incestuous relationships in Shady Sands and Aradesh being his own father and uncle... Yeah.

It took cross-referencing the Vipers design document (a primary source by all accounts) and the timeline itself to pin down the foundation date (as Shady Sands' founders left together with the groups that became the various raider Khans; the design doc explicitly identifies the departure date for the Vipers as 2097, 64 years before present day).

It's not the first time MCA is wrong about Fallout Lore. Much as I love him and his works, the timeline and the Bible contradict themselves several times over... Especially insofar the Vipers are concerned - they somehow raid the Hub in 2125, before appearing in the wasteland in 2141. Dennis Allen departs the Glow in 2135, during the Exodus from Mariposa...

Anyone have their own sudden revelations when it comes to Fallout lore? Deep-seated beliefs shaken by facts appearing where you least expect, it such as a shoe buried in a layer of coal or Jet in a sealed Vault? ;)

Before mods were available on PS4, I completely enclosed Starlight Drive-In. It may be crude in some areas, but I consider it my greatest FO4 achievement.

As a foreigner living in the USA for the last 4 years and a fan of Fallout, I usually read Las Vegas, NV, as Las Vegas, New Vegas.

What is your most useful, albeit uncommon survival mode tip?

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:43 AM PDT

Something atypical you normally do that helps but wouldn't appear on those, "10 survival mode tips!" you always see online.

I've got two survival accounts, one is nearing 80. Just wanted to hear tactics from other seasoned players.

Successfully help me fix my modded game, get $10

Posted: 03 May 2017 02:26 PM PDT

I completely re-installed New Vegas, installed 30 less mods than before, have no conflicts and all dependencies in the right order, but my game crashes right as the music starts on the intro, compared to crashing unplayably often after loading in before I restarted from scratch. Work with me to make my game run without crashing for at least 30 minutes at a time, and I'll give you money (via paypal or messenger, your choice.)

If obsidian were to make another Fallout, would you rather them make one in a new area, or give New Vegas a proper overhaul?

Posted: 03 May 2017 11:36 AM PDT

Looking back on New Vegas, it's obvious they didn't have enough time to complete it in the time frame they were given. There were, and still are, loads of bugs, along with content that needed to be removed for the sake of getting it onto shelves in time. A big example of that is the legion not having much of any depth to them other than "we're the bad guys and we know it" sort of mantra. It's been said that they were initially supposed to have an actual background to them more than that, with even their main camp being explorable just like many of the NCR camps and bases. But we never get to do that though until the end of the game.

Would you like to see them take a stab at doing New Vegas the way they originally intended, with a decent time frame (I would think at least 2 full years of development time, plus any time before and after to work out paperwork and physically making and shipping the game for selling) or would you like to see them focus on a new area we haven't seen before?

Biggest argument against this would be mods, since the modding community for NV is large and has a plethora of choices to make the game how you want, but to me seeing the game as it was originally intended is always the best in my opinion.

Obviously this is all for the sake of conversation since we have no evidence that they're making another Fallout game, but it's nice to discuss nonetheless.

Why did the resource wars happen in the first place?

Posted: 03 May 2017 11:30 AM PDT

Fallout lore states that the exhaustion of fossil fuels was the main driver of the resource wars which caused the nuclear holocaust. I only see one problem with this... Nothing in sight in the Fallout universe uses substantial fossil fuels prior to the bombs dropping?

You don't see any gas powered cars littering the landscape. Airplanes are nuclear powered. Plastics are not as heavily used as they are in our modern world. Nuclear power plants are likely the main source of electricity for much of the US meaning household heating isn't handled via natural gas or oil. Other than Mr. Handy fuel, flamer fuel, and gas canisters you don't see much fuel in Fallout.

So this begs the question, why did everyone care about fossil fuels so much?

Holstered Weapons in Fallout 4, or the lack thereof.

Posted: 02 May 2017 11:41 PM PDT

Why can't you see your Holstered Weapons in Fallout 4 like in New Vegas Or 3? I know it isn't engine Limitations because Skyrim was also created on the Creation Engine and you can clearly see your weapons on you in that game. So what gives? Does anyone know the reasoning for this?

Places in Fallout New Vegas Actually Exist in real life

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:49 PM PDT

I was helping my friend plan a trip to Las Vegas and I happen to accidentally pan to the southwest and I seen a town that is very familiar to every New Vegas player, Goodsprings.

So I was like lets pan around some more and see if any other locations from the game exist in real life and I found some more: Nellis AFB, Sloan (aka Deathclaw valley), Searchlight (Camp Searchlight in the game), Primm, Nipton (have to zoom in), Nelson (i believe its camp nelson in the game), and Boulder City.

And on top of all that nearly every location is somewhat geologically correct from the Pip-Boy map in game.

I just found this to be too cool. Now time to do Capital Wasteland and Boston area.

FO4 New Player Tips?

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:35 PM PDT

I'm fresh out of New Vegas and bought FO4 for PS4 to start tomorrow. What tips would you recommend and what adjustments am I going to have to make or get used to?

I usually play a female character, ST 5, PE 5, EN 8, CH 2, IN 10, AG 7, LU 2 after a few perk dumps and bobbleheads.

Spoiler free, preferably.

Turns out they are also part cannibal!

I ate it and I got the dark craving notice, holy shit!

It also made my hunger go to full from starving!

Which is cool for survival

Found a free copy of Fallout 3..

Posted: 03 May 2017 08:19 AM PDT

Just realized there was a download code for Fallout 3 in my Fallout 4 copy. Fallout 4 is the only Fallout game I have played, but I have experience with other Bethesda games including Oblivion and Skyrim.

Anything I should know or keep in mind before I dive into the game? Any major pro tips that won't spoil anything but are important to getting a full experience? Thanks in advance.

FO4 No Settlement or Storage Run Help

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:00 PM PDT

I am currently level 5 and just made it to Diamond City. I am using a melee build with high strength, endurance, agility, and just a little luck. The other stats are at 1.

My main goal/rule in this run consist of two things. 1) actually finish the storyline, and 2) keep things feeling "real." Here is a list of rules I'm imposing on myself. Please comment with additional rules or tips and hints on how to complete the game.

1) No settlements or storage containers. I will wander around carrying only what I'm actually going to use. That means not picking up any weapon unless I drop my current one. Same with armor. I won't even hoard food if it becomes unreasonable. 20 steaks is too many to carry at once. This will allow me to keep weight down as the only ways to lighten the load are to abandon items or sell them. I am trying to save my son, I don't have time to grow communities or build relationships.

2) Limited crafting. Crafting some wacky melee weapons is too fun to ignore. Also adding serated edges to my knife doesn't sound unreasonable. Crafting armor is a little bit outside of my roleplay so I will buy armor if I need equipment. I'm not using guns besides a single backup pipe weapon.

3) Limited looting. Stealing weapons off newly deceased corpses is OK. Taking their bloody clothes is not. Gross. Also I don't mess with bodies that have been dead a long time as that's definitely disgusting. I don't loot ammo for selling because the zero weight feels like cheating.

4) Misc. I will try to eat food before taking stimpacks. I will try not to heal mid combat. I will probably get addicted to all the drugs. No fast travel. Avoid using sneak. Avoid exploration unless I'm right by a new area or it advances the main quest. Keep thieving to a minimum.

I'm always on the run using only what I find while trying to collect high value junk that I can sell at the next merchant to buy better gear. My charisma is low but a suit and alcohol can fix that. I also try to pick the most confused options in speak checks and always ask for more money even though I know there's no hope.

That's basically it. A big, loud, dumb guy with no settling, no storage, and always pushing the main questline. I want it to be hard but not impossible or unreasonable.

Does anyone have any other rules to add to the immersion? Anything I should be on the lookout for? Tips for dealing with groups in open combat? I could try survival mode which I like for the food and water but I'm definitely dying a lot so I'm not ready for the no saves quite yet. Thanks for reading!

Differences in item values from Fallout 1 to Fallout 4

Posted: 03 May 2017 12:16 AM PDT

I have tried to find a conversations about this topic from Reddit and other forums, and it frustrates me that no one has touched this topic - or I just haven't used correct search terms. Anyway, I cannot find a discussion about this.

The thing which bothers me, are the values and pricing of weapons and armor which differ a ton in the east and west coast (prices from The Vault/fallout wiki, not considering Charisma or things that effect barter). For example, the Plasma Rifle: In the original Fallouts, a Winchester P94 Plasma rifle would cost around 4000 caps. In New Vegas, it´s renamed to Plasma Caster (it´s the same one), but the price is very high - 7000 caps. In F3, the model changed to one made by Repconn and the price dropped below 2000 caps. Fallout 4 removed plasma rifle completely and was basically a modded plasma pistol, which you could purchase for around 100 caps, then scavenge some tatos and telephones to mod it into a rifle.

The same goes for the basic 10mm pistol. In F1 it was 250 caps, in NV its price climbed to 750 and in F3 (sure, the model changed, but it still is the "main" low level pistol and shouldn't matter) dropped again to 225 and to 50 caps in F4.

But what bothers me the most, is the Power Armor. Why a T-51B in F1-2 would cost a whopping 12000 caps, but in F3 only 1120 (helmet + armor). They still need a lot of work to acquire and the one in Capital Wasteland is the only one. New Vegas has more PA´s available, but the price is elevated back to around 7000 caps for both the helmet and armor. This time Fallout 4 fixes the price a bit - you could purchase the basic T-51 power armor pieces for under 800 caps and the frame for 4500, although there are several available to be found.

I could go on comparing, but most of you has probably noticed these and other differences yourself.

So, my question are: - Are the caps more valuable in the east coast, than in the west coast? More bang for your cap. - Did the Brotherhood - NCR war affect the prices of high-tech weaponry and Power Armor? - If the Gun Runners manufacture new weapons in the west coast, shouldn´t that lower the prices? Same goes to east coast; If no one makes new ones and you have to scavenge the parts, shouldn't they be a bit pricier?

I wish someone offered me a plausible answer to this, without just blaming Bethesda for not caring about canon.

Thank you in advance!
