Bungie, if we import a character, can we still change their appearance?

Posted: 23 May 2017 04:14 AM PDT

Importing a character imports your character's appearance, but apparently also gives you some rewards for your activities in Destiny. Probably some emblems or something I imagine, still, I would like those. But to be honest, I would still like to change my character's appearance. I'm hoping there will be some new options to mess with.

So, Bungie, yay or nay?

Edit:

"We know that, just like us, you have grown fond of the Guardians you've created, so we do plan to preserve your character personalization," Bungie said. "We are going to recognize the dedication and passion you've shown for this world. Specifically, the class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward. We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments."

If taken literally, we have nothing to fear because the 'accounts' get the rewards. But given the context, it could also mean it is tied to importing your character.

Hey, DTG. Remember the guy who asked for help getting a job?

Posted: 23 May 2017 10:24 AM PDT

I didn't get it.

Not your fault obviously, you guys were a tremendous help. Here's the original post. It was down to me and two others, and one of them delivered something that resonated more with the intended audience.

I'm now stuck with a trailer and nowhere to put it. That is; I have a short trailer for Destiny. And instead of it just sitting on it, I want to share it with you guys. Fellow fans and gamers of Destiny. Hopefully it will resonate more with you.

I'm not asking for views, likes or feedback (although your opinion is yours to do with what you will; should you choose to share it, that's your prerogative.) I do hope, however, you get something out of watching it. If you do, that would be fantastic. For every person who does, the project will be worth a bit more.

Still here? Cool. I want to preface the video a bit. Just so you know what you are watching. I had some guidelines and some restrictions on the video, for instance it had to be no more than 1 minute long. I might have been better with, say 20 seconds more, but 60 seconds was max length. It was also supposed to function as a kind of launch-trailer. With a game that's been out three years, that's an odd position to be in, so it's part nostalgia, part launch hype, part love letter to the past three years.

Also. Any good trailer (imo) gives you some story stuff. You need an anchor, what's the story about? What's cool? Who do I care about and identify with? This was a problem going into the trailer. What story do I sell that's representative for the whole experience? We all know Destiny has had some story issues, so the solution to this I am actually quite happy with. Who's the story actually about? Who's been there from start to finish, through all our adventures, becoming legend? The answer, to me at least is this: A ghost and his guardian. It's their story and it's our story.

Thusly I've named the trailer "The Chain", partly after the song, partly because of the ghost/guardian bond, and partly because I'm just a pompous non ironic kind of guy.

Ok, I'm done now. Here it is.

Lastly I want to extend my thanks to the many wonderful guardians who were willing to help me with video (and audio) material. There were a lot of you and I would spend all night writing thanks and even then probably forget someone, so I just collectively thank you all here. Thank you.

TL:DR: Made a trailer for Destiny for a job I didn't get. I hope you guys like it.

Edit: The song used is "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac. Some observant souls might notice it being used in another trailer, far cooler trailer for something else. I decided to use it anyway, it being damn cool and all.

Use your chest piece for Arc Burn reduction, not extra armor (Nightfall)

Posted: 23 May 2017 06:31 AM PDT

I know this is obvious to some people, but a lot of us just select [subclass elemental extra armor] on a chest piece. But +1 Armor does not mean that much in PVE, and in the case of this week's Nightfall (Arc burn) it's much better to select "Arc Burn Defense" (don't confuse with "Arc Recovery") -- this will stop these pesky shanks from one shotting you.

Note that "Arc Burn Defense" can be present on non-Arc armor, e.g. my Days of Iron chest piece is Solar, but does feature the perk.

Of course, the wisest is to just melt the boss with Arc Chaos Dogma or something (four burns: Arc + Primary + Fallen + airborne) -- but just in case have that reduced arc damage handy (can switch to it just for the boss fight).

The biggest problem with Destiny 2

Posted: 23 May 2017 05:40 AM PDT

[Discussion]

The biggest problem is that we are all looking for different things. We played Destiny 1 so much that we formulated our own vision of what we want for the game and ultimately what I want is not the same that you want.

Some people are happy with the more simple Skill tree while others expected the game to go in the complete opposite direction. Some people are mad at the crucible change to 4v4 while others think it's great. Some people don't care about fps while others hate that it's still 30fps. Some people don't like that there is no Grimoire while others couldn't care less and I could go on...

Bungie is never going to please everyone and while we can discuss and show them what we like and dislike we have to accept that not everyone shares the same vision and ultimately is Bungie's vision the one that we will be playing.

This doesn't excuse Bungie for their shortcomings but at this point there wont be fundamental changes made, all we can do is keep an open mind, wait to see Bungie's vision for the game and pray it doesn't suck.

If you have the Exotic Chaos Dogma, this is THE week to use it!

Posted: 23 May 2017 06:04 AM PDT

After eight weeks of waiting, Age of Triumph has finally given us a Small Arms/Burn Nightfall. Now I understand if you'd rather use Fatebringer/Fang/Nechrochasm/Zhalo, there are loads of Arc Primaries out there, but this is Dogma's Week.

Fallen Strike and more importantly, Fallen Boss=Dogma does bonus damage Arc Burn=Dogma does bonus damage Small Arms=Dogma does more damage Airborne=Dogma does more damage if you can manage it (Sunsingers/Empyrean Bellicose)

TL;DR Exotic Chaos Dogma is a Sniper, this week

The one thing that disappointed me most about Age of Triumph.

Posted: 23 May 2017 06:08 AM PDT

The generalist ghost shell never became a legendary so we could infuse it to 400 light. That would have completed the full circle of the game by bringing back the original ghost that said "Eyes up guardian" at the beginning of our lives

Slower Gunplay in Destiny 2

Posted: 23 May 2017 10:34 AM PDT

[misc]

I apologize if this has been mentioned already, but I wanted to point out that not only have the times to kill seem to have been lengthened (enabling less twitch reactions and more engaging gun fights) by the new weapon category system, but with the changes to armour, every guardian seems to have more "health" but much less recovery. In the PvP videos I have seen, guardians take shots, run off for cover, and full seconds pass before their shield regens. This means that PvP will be a LOT more fun, at least for me, and that Bungie really is returning to a slower, more calculated risk type environment. I hope that it maintains that players cannot run off and return with a full shield before they can be pursued.

Also, whatever changed graphically seems to have been a huge improvement for me. I read something something wood looks like wood, metal looks like metal, but it really brings Destiny into the current gen for me, framerates aside

Biggest D2 Disappointment: Absolutely zero change in how the D-Pad is used.

Posted: 23 May 2017 11:11 AM PDT

How many times have you really needed to switch to another weapon during a Raid?

How many times have you really needed to pop a synth during a boss?

How many times have you tried to do something in the inventory screen only for it to take forever to load?

If D2 is meant to improve on D1's formula, it's really missing a step by not finding better use for the D-pad. Currently in D1 and D2, 4 emotes are mapped to the D-pad. In other words, 4 extra buttons are wasted on emotes. Now, I love emotes, but as Dark Souls shows, you don't need to (nor should you) have 1 emote own an entire button.

In DS3, for example, you press an emote button (left side of the touchscreen for PS4), which pulls up a menu of 8 possible emotes. It's just a simple and smart way to do it. And because DS3 does it that way, the D-pad is freed up to switch weapons and swap inventory items. I wonder what game could seriously benefit from that.

IMO, this is how it should be:

  • Up: Open Emote menu and select emote
  • Left: Use a pre-selected item
  • Right: Use another pre-selected item
  • Down: Swap to 2nd pre-selected weapon (based on the weapon class you're currently holding)

For example, I could have the following loadout:

  • Up: My 8 favorite emotes
  • Left: Power synth
  • Right: Energy synth
  • Down: If I'm wielding a Solar Handcannon, I can swap between my Solar Handcannon and my Arc SMG

It's possible that not allowing you to swap weapons and use items during combat is a design choice, and I understand that. But, there is still much, much greater potential for the D-pad. Perhaps we could have multiple emotes assigned to each direction, or possibly chat options (such as communicating how charged your super is with just a button press).

TL;DR: Simple QoL request begged for since D1 got ignored. Wasted opportunity.

The Unspoken Potential of the Arcstrider Super

Posted: 23 May 2017 03:33 AM PDT

So, I'm seeing a lot of talk and disappointment about how the poledancer is a re-skinned Arcblade, and I feel like sharing a more positive view.

Firstly, watch this. Notice that it deals it's damage in an AoE instead of targeting just one enemy per hit like Arcblade does, slowly plinking away at a group of trash. It appears to wipe through mobs of adds in the way we all wished Arcblade would.

Secondly, well... that's all I have, nice.

Unspoken potential

But seriously, while it's not wildly different like the others are, I'm happy that it at least looks a lot less shit.

If there isn't a reference to HALO when we first get to use the tank, it will be a serious missed opportunity.

Even a simple 'Tank Beats everything!' would suffice.

Seriously, the HALO games had the best lines in regards to tanks.

Digital Foundry D2 PS4 Framerate Test

Posted: 23 May 2017 10:09 AM PDT

Here ya go...

Edit: I feel i need to complement the post, this is a just a share not a prof, we all saw the interview from Bungie 30fps on consoles / uncapped on PC, this is not a fps flame wars, on a personal note, i'm fine with 30fps or i wouldn't have 2k+hours on the Destiny, my personal opinion if anyone on Xbox is waiting for hopes on 60 fps on Scorpio don't get your hopes up, console parity is the main reason (even if they had the power on the 10% extra cpu), between legacy Xbox and Scorpio the advantage on PVP would be always on the maxed fps, and Sony marketing the game...

Bungie won't separate PvP and PvE, but the weapon slot changes look good enough to listen to what they are doing.

Posted: 23 May 2017 04:05 AM PDT

I see many people frustrated, like me, by the design decision of keeping the same balance between PvP and PvE, because every nerf to PvP means that weapons get less viable in PvE. However, having seen the changes to the weapon slots, the problem might become largely moot in future.

As we have seen, Bungie changed the weapon systems by letting us handle two primaries or primary-like weapons: one with kinetic damage, the other with elemental damage. In the power slot (the old heavy slot) now will go every single secondary that is able to one-shot people, and probably this means that at last fusion rifles will finally be un-nerfed.

It's a new system that in turn brings a new meta: a meta that turns bottom-up the problems that plagued crucible and allows for different load-outs. This means that at least for launch (and at least one year) Bungie won't probably separate the balance PvP and PvE, because the previous nerfs will be rolled back. However it carries more benefits. By having the old special weapons to rely on less ammo, but by letting them keep their "one shot" ability it means that we will be able to keep our shotguns, fusion rifles and snipers strong enough to feel powerful but situational enough to not pollute crucible again.

I think I will love the new system: raid elemental primaries should not be exotics just because they are "primaries with elemental damage". People who love to snipe will start using scout rifles (the good anti-sniper weapons) either in kinetic or the elemental version. You will not have team of snipers at the edges of Skyshock or First Light. However Crucible Gods will still come at you and open a window with their shotguns.

In PvE the choice of secondary and heavy is situational: if you need rocket launchers for a part of a strike or a raid and a shotgun for another part you won't run every single part of a mission or a strike with the same weapon. Maybe it will also mean that people will have to serve different roles with different loadouts, I really love to think that some people will DPS raid bosses with the new Sleeper Simulant and others will have to clean up the floor from adds with a rocket launcher.

I think we can give Bungie the benefit of doubt, at least until June 2018 (should be plenty of time for Bungie to publish that second expansion).

I'm hoping the SIVA Fallen aren't just reskinned Fallen in Destiny 2, if they appear

Posted: 23 May 2017 12:30 AM PDT

So apparently the SIVA Fallen are back. I'm not sure if they're back, but a mission description (likely for a strike) in the livestream says they're back, so I'm assuming that they are back.

Personally, didn't like the SIVA Fallen. They were worse versions of the Fallen. Fallen without the Space Viking aesthetic, without a lot of the sympathy too, and with nothing to really replace those aspects.

So, if the SIVA Fallen are returning, I hope they go in a different direction with them. What direction is that?

I want them to be abominations. Creatures built by a bunch of mad scientists. Things that have not only distinct gameplay, but really distinct appearances. A Dreg that looks like a Floater from XCOM. Fallen captains that have Aksis style spider legs. Things that should not exist, not just fallen with spikes glued on.

I wouldn't mind if the Splicers weren't included either, but if they are, hoping they make them more than a reskin. If they are just a reskin, then honestly, they probably weren't worth including, at least in my eyes.

Admittedly those are the eyes of a sleep deprived canadian moron with the username of u/BadIdeaBloke, so maybe don't put much stock in them

Just some of the things I am most hyped for in Destiny 2

Posted: 23 May 2017 04:46 AM PDT

  • European Deadzone. Probably the thing I am most excited about. I love MMOs and this huge zone full of nature and greenery, lost sectors, NPCs giving quests, the social space and other stuff looks very promising.

  • Clans. Finally this feature will be integrated in the game. There will even be clan progression. Never play alone again.

  • Raid Matchmaking. I love raiding, but I hate spending an hour looking for people. Now, there will be matchmaking and even the 'Clan LFM' thing, that lets groups matchmake with solo players for raids.

  • Lost Sectors. These dungeons occuring in the open world sound extremely promising and look like yet another step in the MMO direction for Destiny, which is great.

  • Minimap. Finally a minimap will be integrated in the game when you're patrolling. I heard it even shows public event timers. This is a game changer, very happy about this!

  • No forced Orbit. If you liked transitioning via Orbit, you can still do that. If you just want to go somewhere without 2 additional load screens, you can now do that. Great improvement.

  • Adventures. Basically series of quests given out by NPCs. Destiny 2 sounds like there will be a lot more to do in open MMO-like spaces.

  • New and improved Story. Yes, the story in D1 was lackluster. This time, we will have more cutscenes and a longer story. This is great news. The single player story in Destiny is a wonderful thing to have besides the constant MMO grind.

  • New PVP maps. The PVP maps in D1 were really cool and well designed. Reminded me a lot of Halo. Can't wait to see those.

  • Graphics. From what we've seen in the reveal, there has been quite a nice overhaul of the graphics compared to D1. And I already loved the D1 visuals!

  • New weapons and armor. This is an obvious point, but still one I am very excited about. The guns and armor sets in Destiny 1 were beautiful, and players were happy to find and collect the various excotic items. Can't wait to see what they have in store this time.

  • Grimoire in-game. I generally just hated the concept of having to use your phone/PC to access lore and info that should be inside the game. Finally, this will all be integrated this time around. Thanks Bungie.

If you have anything you're excited for, let us know in the comments!

What is the first thing that you're going to do when you log in on release day?

Posted: 23 May 2017 07:06 AM PDT

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing all the negative posts. I can't wait to log into a Destiny game that I haven't literally explored inside of the walls because I was so bored.

Given that I really enjoy exploring, I really hope lost zones and patrol are done well. I plan to spend a lot of time in there.

What is the first thing you guys are looking forward to seeing?

Artifact Stat Rolls from Tyra Karn (Weekly Reset 2017-05-23)

Posted: 23 May 2017 02:04 AM PDT

Preface: This subreddit is now floated with topics and discussions about Destiny 2 and rightfully so. I'm too hyped AF! But for those of you who are still curious what Artifacts are worth your visit in the Iron temple here we go again for some disappointment.

Memory of Gheleon: 31 Discipline, 38 Strength.

  • 91% overall. Elemental Perk: Orbs on precise void kills / Orbs on precise Kills on Fallen enemies

Memory of Skorri: 59 Strength (hidden Discipline Bonus).

  • 78% overall. Elemental Perk: Orbs on precise void kills. Orbs on precise Kills on Fallen enemies

Memory of Radegast: 35 Intellect, 36 Strength.

  • 93% overall. Elemental Perk: Orbs on void melee kills / Orbs on melee kills on Fallen enemies.

Personal Opinion: There it is our 90+% Gheleon! Also that is a pretty good Radegast roll!

Recommended Picks: I consider two Artifacts worth your tokens, Gheleon and Radegast!

A perfect roll would look like this:

  • A Int/Dis Artifact: 38/51.

  • A Int/Str or Dis/Str Artifact: 38/38.

Is moving snipers and shotguns to power slot another example of PVP negatively influencing PVE play?

Posted: 23 May 2017 05:59 AM PDT

I am a predominantly PVE player and throughout the entirety of Destiny I have grown a hate spot for Bungie changing my PVE looter shooter's mechanics because of broken situations in the crucible that I never play. Examples such as ammo economy changes and making my fatebringer worse are reasons why changes to the crucible made my PVE experience worse.

Now we have Destiny 2 which was supposed to be a new beginning and I legitimately felt enthusiastic that these changes were behind me. That is until they revealed Power weapons.

This is a slot that Rocket Launchers and Swords now share space with Snipers and Shotguns. I get why they did this, with the power ammo economy in the crucible being scarce (if someone else pops it, ammo isn't shared, so on) they want to drastically change the mindset of shotgun warriors and snipers in trials and so on.

However, this negatively affects me though because I try to use the same setup in all of Destiny PVE activities.

  • Primary: Hand Cannon
  • Secondary: Sniper
  • Heavy: Rocket Launcher/Machine Gun/Sleeper

This is not a possibility now in D2. Now I know I haven't played the game yet and I haven't tested new loadouts as of yet, but isn't this just another example of Bungie making sweeping changes to the way their PVE game plays by reacting to the PVP?

TLDR: Just read the title

Become Legend - Weekly Guide [2017-05-23]

Posted: 23 May 2017 10:41 AM PDT

INTRO

This is a weekly guide to help you sort out the easiest and best ways to Become Legend as Destiny winds down and Destiny 2 approaches. Yes, I've changed my reddit username to match the rest of my brand.

WEEKLY STORY PLAYLIST - THE TAKEN WAR

Modifiers

  • Heroic
  • Lightswitch
  • Airborne

Lightswitch means Thralls are going to be absolutely vicious along with any sword-wielding foe, do not get meleed. Airborne means you can float, use Empyrean Bellicose and Angel of Light (Titans and Warlocks) to maximize that damage.

SIVA CRISIS HEROIC

Modifiers

  • Heroic
  • Void Burn
  • Brawler
  • Ironclad

Nothing overly interesting here. Void subclasses do best in PvE and it synergizes here, take advantage of that and use what Void weapons you have.

NIGHTFALL - THE WRETCHED EYE

Modifiers

  • Arc Burn
  • Small Arms
  • Juggler
  • Airborne
  • Daybreak

Arc subclasses are an obvious choice. In terms of weapons, Adept Fatebringer or Fang of Ir Yut should do nicely while Zhalo Supercell is also a viable option. Titans can use Empyrean Bellicose to float and get huge damage without sacrificing the Arc subclass, Warlocks can use Sunsinger for the Angel of Light perk to make Airborne easier but Stormtrance is just too powerful to pass on this week. Overall, this should be a pretty fun one.

CHALLENGE OF ELDERS

Round Boss Enemy Type
1 Seditious Mind Vex [Taken]
2 Noru'usk, Servant of Oryx Cabal [Taken]
3 Sylok, the Defiled Hive [Taken]

Modifiers

  • Specialist: Special Weapon damage is favored.
  • Trickle: Recharge of abilities is significantly reduced.
  • Super Kill Bonus: Super kills are worth more points.

Point System

Method Points
Kill +25
Melee Kill +35
Grenade Kill +40
Precision Kill +45
Super Kill +100
Assist +25
Orb Generation +20
Ultra Kill +500

* Super kills are normally worth +50 but this week they are doubled.

The modifiers are absolutely horrendous, Trickle with Super Kill bonus means you may as well just go for your 30,000 points and be done. Even better, just skip it this week because Trickle is the worst!

WEEKLY FEATURED RAID - CROTA'S END

Deathsinger Challenge
  • Kill all enemies to open access to Ir Yut.
  • Ignore Ir Yut and kill the two Knights nearby.
  • Head back outside, and kill all the enemies that spawn.

SHAXX BOUNTIES

Shaxx Bounty - Taking Control

Objectives:

  • Complete 7 Matches
  • 30 Advantage Kills
  • 15 Captures
  • B-Line

The hardest objective is going to be B-Line. This requires you to capture the B Zone first, you must be a participant in the capture to get the medal and complete the objective so you can't just go slaughter the enemy and keep them off it while your buddies capture. This means everyone will be doing it, my suggestion is to just go quickly to B and hold your grenades until the enemy starts to capture or push to the point and starting capturing while throwing grenades at choke points to keep the enemy back long enough to capture. Remember, it takes 3 players to have the fastest capture speed so get at least that many on the point.

Advantage Kills aren't incredibly obvious in what that requires of you. Your team must have more capture points than the other team when you get a kill, most commonly in the form of 2-1 but it can occur on 1-0. Finally, 15 Captures should be easy across 7 matches considering you get homebase first on every match for free.

Shaxx Bounty - A Hunt for Glory

Objectives:

  • Complete 7 Matches
  • 50 Primary Kills
  • 30 Kill Credit
  • 20 Crests Denied

The hardest part of this weeks bounty is going to be Primary Kills for most players. Supremacy is built around CQC (close-quarters combat) and that warrants a lot of Shotgun and Fusion Rifle play. Use a Hand Cannon to help combat some of the rushers and players wielding their Pulse Rifles/Auto Rifles, you'll succeed much more at a short-mid range this way and can also collect crests. If you're struggling still there's always Universal Remote. It's still recommended to run a Shotgun, a Machine Gun with a good roll can go a long way here too. The most important facet of Supremacy is sticking with your teammates. Most versions of 6v6 game play promote this but it's much more important in Supremacy because if your teammate dies you can deny the crest. Collecting crests is the second most important thing here, but that doesn't mean get reckless and sacrifice yourself to nab one.

Shutdown supers work well (Voidwalker and Striker) but you'll probably see a lot of success with a well-timed roaming super (Bladedancer, Stormcaller, Sunbreaker). Be smart when using your super and you'll score very well, it's easy to nab 2-3 kills per super use and score 6 points for the team.

WEEKLY ELITE BOUNTIES

The Dawning brought some new bounties for strikes to accompany their recent changes. These bounties may be picked up from Zavala.

  • Strike Elite: Earn 9 Medals in Strikes (Bronze/Silver/Gold Tier)
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Armor, Legendary Marks +10
  • Sunrise: Earn a Gold Tier Achieve Medal in the Nightfall before time expires.
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Weapon, Legendary Marks +10
  • Merciless: Get 9 rapid enemy kills to earn Rampage Medals in SIVA Crisis Strikes.
    • Rewards: 10000 EXP, Vanguard Rep +200, Legendary Armor, Legendary Marks +10

You can farm kills for Merciless at the beginning of the Nexus Strike or on the bridge during the Sunless Cell strike, best done with a fireteam.

Gallery.

They had life-size figures of all classes there, plus life-size guns. Also some of the new and existing merch was on display. The venue itself looked amazing!

Not many shots of actual screens (photos focused on the screen only were not allowed), you can see that stuff from all the gameplay videos on Youtube anyway.
