[Civ 6] Why is the city range attack icon so hard to click on?

Posted: 03 May 2017 02:44 AM PDT

Havent played civ 6 in a few months and just hopped into a game after like 4 patches, everything looks great and love all the new civs but disappointed to see that the city range attack icon still requires the precision of a ninja to click on. It takes me on average 3 to 4 clicks coupled with a lot of zoom to get it, and this is for each city.....

Is there a work around? Or did i miss an option somewhere that fixes this?

I set a Small Continents map to low sea level/high world age and got this wonderful monstrosity

Yesterday I wrote a program that turns any image into a Civ 5 map. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:24 AM PDT

I wanted to be able to create maps of real world locations quickly so I created a program that turns a picture of a map into an frame for a civ 5 map. It is fairly limited, but I though this subreddit would find this interesting. Here are two examples, one of the middle east and another of the northwest passage. http://imgur.com/a/CXFPY Any suggestions for improvment?

I played a game of total war, declaring war on everyone the turn I met them. This is how it turned out.

Why isn't there a Restart button?

Posted: 03 May 2017 06:20 PM PDT

I know there is a Mod for it, but this seems like a huge oversight that has bothered me a lot.(before i got the Mod) Does Firaxis have a reason for not Implementing such a simple yet important feature?

Civ VI: Cultural Victory Discussion

Posted: 03 May 2017 01:00 PM PDT

I've had three games now where I've made it my goal to go for a culture victory. First game I was attacked early and lost a city and gave up due to a bad start. Second game I changed to science half way through while still pushing culture and tourists to fend off a chinese victory (while sabotaging their space projects) and then won by science. In my latest game, I am playing as France and am solidly in the middle of the pack, before turn 300 but it's looking like the other civs will take a science victory before I have a chance at making a cultural. I'm going to play it out and just see how it goes though.

Discussion time: I have read some guides online after the fact and see that as much early culture generation as possible is important, meaning theater squares etc. This puts me at odds for other strategies where you want commercial hubs, campus's, and industrial zones prioritized, so my question is where you make sacrifices? I don't want to get teched out but should my early game strategy be capturing as much territory as possible, settling as many cities as possible, building up troops for defence, then focusing on Culture over science?

What has worked for you? I'm currently on Emperor difficulty and am enjoying the challenge so far compared to the lower difficulties.

Dedicated Civ 5 Pitboss server

Posted: 03 May 2017 11:09 AM PDT

Me and my friends love civ 5, except for how unstable it is in multiplayer. So we are trying out a dedicated server for it. I have this running on an older AMD FX 4130 that I overclocked, but it's still slow. Now my guess is that Civ 5 is very single threaded due to it being pretty event driven, so my assumption is that an overclocked Pentium G3258, that offers two very strong cores will be the best price/performance. Is this right, anyone have experience with this?

EDIT: see this comment for a quick test I did

TIL Conquered cities keep the original Civ's Unique Ability(?)

Posted: 03 May 2017 10:35 AM PDT

I had just knocked Victoria off of her home continent when I built an archaeological museum in London, not thinking about it at all. I then looked in my great works screen and saw that the archaeological museum had six slots for artifacts. The reason for the question mark in the title is because I'm unsure if this is intentional or just a bug, or perhaps it has something to do with a mod I have installed (though after looking through my mods I find that unlikely). Has anyone else experienced this?

Question: Mid-Late game Eureka/Inspiration Explosions

Posted: 03 May 2017 11:58 AM PDT

Okay--this has happened a number of times now and I can't figure it out because Civopedia remains garbage. I was well into a multiplayer game with Frederick the other day (~turn 180) when I flipped a turn and spontaneously got 6/7 Eurekas/Inspirations at once.

I hadn't popped a Great Scientist, taken an opponent's city or done anything else that would've triggered any one, much less all of these boosts in that turn. I can't remember all of the specifics, but Flight, Chemistry, Radio, Civil Engineering and Opera & Ballet were among them.

Can anyone help me get to the bottom of what causes this? Is it moving into a new Era? Something related to a tech/culture advantage (I had a slender Science lead and a roughly top 3 Culture/Tourism position)?

This has happened a number of times in the past and I'd like to know what is causing it so I can try to sure that it happens more often. Many thanks for any help.

Stonehenge seems like an awful investment to me. Is there something I'm not seeing?

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:34 AM PDT

Stonehenge is always snatched up by the AI just a few turns after you would have finished building it if you rushed astrology and began producing stonehenge immediately. You can even lose the rush if you don't have much production.

To me, it seems like the risk of losing the race for stonehenge, and the massive loss of early game production/growth/settler tempo makes stonehenge never worth it, even with extremely powerful religious civs like Arabia. You still have to get a holy site and shrine before you can even utilize and spread your religion, and rushing these is still almost guaranteed to give you a great prophet.

So it comes down to beliefs, which don't seem to outweigh the loss of early tempo. Why rush stonehenge for first choice on beliefs when you can just pick a slightly less useful belief and rush hanging gardens and an early settler? Also you can get your apostle for additional beliefs sooner if you rush a holy site + its buildings rather than wasting time on stonehenge. Is there a very specific belief synergy that some civs have to where this insane early investment is actually worth it?

What's the best natural wonder in Civ 6?

Posted: 03 May 2017 03:10 AM PDT

I'd say my favorite is Torres del Paine, doubling tile yields around it is massive. For example a hill with forest (1F 3H) becomes 2F 6H, put a city there and it's pretty much going to carry your empire.

City-state quests

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:14 PM PDT

What if instead of only having 1 quest at a time, city states could have multiple? Often you get ones on the opposite side of the map who want a trade route, and there is no way to do any quests for them until you complete that first one. It seems like they even planned for something like this because they have a tab called "Quests" with a number next to it, but currently the number can only be 1 or 0.

They wouldn't even have to all give envoys, there could be a bunch of different rewards similar to tribal villages, such as gold, faith, culture, builders, traders, etc.

I think this would make city states a bit more interesting, what do you all think?

Will a better graphics card help make the tuns go faster?

Posted: 03 May 2017 03:22 PM PDT

Hi /r/Civ! I am considering the purchase of a new graphics card. My card is mid-tier right now, but I want a new high end one. I was curious to know if anyone is knowledgeable to know if a better graphics card would have any impact at all on making turns go faster. My assumption is that to make the turns faster, I need a new CPU, and the GPU won't matter much, but to be honest, I am not really all that sure how this works,

Just to be upfront, turns in the late stage of the game might take about 30 seconds per turn. It would be nice if that could be reduced.

What's your most memorable experience in the Civ franchise?

Posted: 03 May 2017 06:21 AM PDT

I have a number of memorable moments in V, and a handful in Beyond Earth, but the most memorable one for me has to be in VI.

I was playing as Germany (was playing on a huge islands map), back before the industrial district nerf. I knew I could win a science victory, but I wanna unlock the Island Hopping achievement. So, I built tons of nukes in my core cities and nuclear subs in my city with Venetian arsenal. I managed to build everything I needed within 5 turns. What happened next was glorious. After I moved my forces in place, I nuked all the AI's capitals (there was 8 of them who still had their capitals) and I took all of them in the same turn. I never laughed so hard after a civ game before. 😂

AC: Countering Nerve Gas Pods?

Posted: 03 May 2017 08:17 AM PDT

So. I fucked up big time.

I was just about to steam roll over all my enemies (playing as Gaians, Nautilis+Believers allied against me, Planet Cult and Cybernetic just chillin) I had 8-5-X units, they had 4-3-X. Sounds like a stomp yeah?

Well, it was, for the first 20 turns. Then after I solidified my conquests, they sent probe team after probe team after probe team. 10 later I had just researched Fusion and then I start getting attacked by Particle Impactor units with nerve gas that beat the shit out of my chaos units. I've since got to Shard weapons but now they have Fusion.

I can still defeat them if I attack them with my units, but I can't defend against them anymore. I've mostly build infantry but I figure if I start making aircraft and speeders en mass I might be able to save my invasion?

Otherwise, I'm stumped and possibly fucked.

EDIT: Upon reflection I've realised that nerve gas pods don't effect Psi units....GUESS IT'S TIME TO FEED THE WORMS.

Advice for Opening for Military Conquest?

Posted: 03 May 2017 10:18 AM PDT

Hi all. I have recently been trying to do some domination games, which I rarely due since there are no puppet cities in this game [I don't like to micromanage 300 cities haha], but I have been having trouble getting started in them.

For example I have been trying to play Alexander. Any advice on what I should focus on in the early game? Once I get past that I am normally ok, but I feel too often I never know how many early cities to build, workers to build, should I get an encampment with his special building before I build units or spam warriors and go attacking right away? That sort of thing

Any advice on how to get started on a military match? Preferably one focused on an early game domination like Alexander with his early game units.

Give advise to an experienced Civ 5 player converting to the new game today.

Posted: 03 May 2017 09:01 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying Civ 6 today finally. I play Civ 5 on immortal and have kind of run my course with the game at nearly 1000 hours. What do I need to know going into my first game of civ 6? What leader should I start with? What do you wish you knew 6 months ago?
