Anduin's quest could have been the perfect moment to give Saurfang some closure.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:11 AM PDT

Imagine that instead of picking up his father's locket from the bottom of the sea, Saurfang picks it up instead and decides to hand it to Anduin to pay back Varian for what he's done in ICC. It would be cool to escort an unarmed Saurfang and have him talk to Anduin about his father while walking torwards his memorial. I think it would be more than perfect, not only for Saurfang but even more for Anduin's character. It would make his action of picking up his father's sword a lot more meaninful after hearing about the respect even an orc warrior legend had for his father.

Just a thought I had when doing the quest.

AP exploiters keep getting away with it?

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 03:52 AM PDT

From time to time, you would see a certain "pvper" jump up the ladder board of most ap gained. Usually once they are caught, they would stop so no one harasses them. Some even rename and faction change since blizzard doesn't seem to care enough to track them if no one else reports them. At least the smart ones do, but their is a certain paladin up there on the list who doesn't really pvp or do M+, yet already at 52 trait. My assumption is he just bots arena scrims all day, at least based on his armory statistics and wowprogress updates.

Well what I don't understand is people made a big deal with "exploiting ap quest" back in 7.1/7.15 and everyone went on a witch hunt, big guilds got banned for a week etc.

link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/5dbynf/rip_1_day_ban_for_eu_ap_exploit/

and https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/5dotse/ap_to_be_removed_from_exploiters/

Now Pvpers are exploiting ap or scripting arena scrims etc and get away with it. I am not trying to start a witch hunt, but a discussion to how players who don't rbg/arena/M+/World quest get the most AP. If its legit, then I am sure we would all like to know how.

The Zoology of Mages

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 06:32 AM PDT

(Disclaimer: Blink, Blink; English isn't my first language; as always read this with the voice of John Cleese, David Attenborough or Morgan Freeman)

About the project: These articles aim to gather all relevant information about the Azeroth wildlife since the release of WoW. Each class will be analysed and characterised in a mocking review.

Introduction

Mages are the typical caster race in Azeroth. Through the whole evolutionary process they developed quite a few specific habits, which will be covered in this article.

General overview and characterisation:

The Magus princeps corydon is a family of light-armoured caster creatures that populate all regions of Azeroth. Generally speaking, it is safe to say that Mages are the most controversial class, as they are equally loved (by the Devs) and hated (by everybody else).

Mage social behaviour and culture

These little critters have a quite nervous personality, which manifests itself in constant blinking. They also have an advanced social system, as they tend to share 'Cookies', 'Bread' or 'Cake' with their fellow players. Sometimes this relationship can get abusive as larger groups reduce them to this activity (see 'LOL mage, CAKE ffs').

An experienced Mage watcher can hear their mating calls in the urban areas of Azeroth, usually a distinctive "PORTAL X AMOUNT OF G' screech.

Although Mages get along well with other classes, territorial aggression among Mage specs (see 'Interclass-Racism') is prevalent. It's not advised to hold two different Mage specs in one raid (especially Frost Mages, see 'OP entitlement').

Event though Mage specs may vary in efficiency – they all perform decent. This is a result of constant given preference by the Dev-olution (See Natural Blizzard Selection

Early Mage evolution:

Magus princeps corydon vanilla

As the first Mages started to show up in the depths of the Molten Core (and BWL), natural selection determined the whole race to go Frost (see 'Fire Resistance'). This ancient predecessor spent mostly its lifetime spamming 'Frost Bolt' or 'Blizzard' on occasion.

Other specialisations in early Vanilla:

At first, the whole race mutated as 'Frost-only' while its Fire/Arcane capabilities nearly degenerated to supportive subsystems. Later on (AQ Mesozoic), Fire reached a developed state but was quickly dominated by the great 'Magepatch', which turned the whole gene pool to 17/31/3. Nothing more to add because only Mages care.

Newer Mage evolution:

Magus princeps frostus

The dreaded predator of the PVP landscape. Technically it's not a real predator as it constantly escapes its targets, wearing them down in a very long and annoying fight. Although the 'Frostus' primarily deals frost damage, flames in the chat box are a common by-product.

Frost mages were usually found in the wilderness of random BGs and Arena comps in every bracket, causing experienced opponents to sigh once they see them pop up in the enemy team interface. But now in Legion, they also show up in raid environments causing other Mage specs to sigh because of their superior dps.

All other Mage specs hate Frost Mages.

Magus princeps fire ballus

The so-called 'Fire Mage' is a special species among mages. Once reigning supreme over the other specs, they've lost their dominance over the course of the Legion invasion. They now have a good mix of CC, mobility, automatic cleave and crappy ST damage. They also have bad breath.

Fire Mages hate Frost mages.

Magus princeps Arkanus

The red-headed step-child sub species in Legion is the so-called 'Arkanus'. While it sister specimen already found their niche, the 'Arkanus' seems to roam between PVE and PVP landscapes, desperate to find its purpose.

Because the 'Arkanus' is often the subject of class-racism, it developed the ability to go invisible. If you hold your breath, you can hear a hiding Arcane Mage cry.

Everybody hates Arcane Mages.

Watcher on Legionfall Campaign - "Ultimately this rests on my shoulders and content was not planned as well as it should have been."

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 12:54 PM PDT

Q: What was the original plan to time gate 7.2 and how are you feeling about this?

A: Storytelling is a big part - a global narrative, etc. Raid opening is purely gameplay reasons. So then we needed an in-game excuse for that. So we built a series of chapters/events to lead up to that. Originally, we wanted to break up weekly steps between something meaty and some "filler" i.e. kill 10 rares. People on PTR felt broken shore was kind of empty when you were limited in this way. So we sped it up a bit - Sentinax, etc early, class campaign in week 3, etc. The filler stuff now is a bit of back end of progression but culminates with class mount acquisition. Ultimately this rests on my shoulders and content was not planned as well as it should have been. So much of it is that there are 12 class campaign, 7 artifact campaign, etc. Served us well in the beginning but a lot of resources went into that for this patch - which means players don't see a lot of the other work if they only play 1 class.

Full quote above.

I posted in another thread with some frustration about Ion's seeming dismissal of player's criticism of the Legionfall Campaign, and was quite frustrated with that attitude. I think Ion and the WoW team built up a lot of good will during the Legion launch, and were very honest and quite blunt when things were working, and thing were not. Sometimes they could be their own harshest critics, and I respected that ability to recognize one's own flaws and try again when you make a mistake. I think that the team most certainly deserved the criticism about these quests, but I also appreciate a great deal their frankness and honesty about why they made these decisions and acknowledgement that some of them were a mistake.

This isn't a catch-all phrase that deserves forgiveness for any sin Blizzard may have committed, but if we want this kind of communication and openness to being wrong we need to also appreciate when it is present. I wasn't blown away by 7.2, but this quote certainly restores a lot of the good faith that this patch was built on top off. There are more, equally telling comments in this interview and I encourage you all to check it out here - http://www.wowhead.com/news=263131/live-developer-q-a-for-april-27th

Anduin's Quest. Sheltered is not the word I would use.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 05:58 AM PDT

So, if you're alliance, you didn't just have the Kadgar fucking with you quest, you also had a quest of character development for King Anduin. He gets lines and everything, and isn't just a side note like he is in the rogue quests.

Anyways, at one point he refers to himself as "sheltered" and even name drops Bolvar (which should be fun as a death knight, "yeah about that...") and I made a face similar to the one my sister made when our dad said he didn't think she had been parentified.

I mean yeah he's been pretty closed off this expansion but there have been plot reasons (mostly if you're a rogue) and it makes sense that the adults would want to keep the only child of the last king safe in a time of war.

But really, when we first met him he was the ruler in name of Stormwind since Varian had gone off to star in his own Gladiator movie under the "care" of Lady "I am totally not a dragon" Preston and Lord "Wait what?" Bolvar until Varian came home and stole the kill on Onyxia. He helped the PC uncover a plot to do vague and dastardly things in Cata, and a huge plot chunk in Pandaria was about him regardless of what faction you played.

Hardly sheltered. Rather the opposite of sheltered.

Clearly this bugged me.

Also Genn can just shut the fuck up.

AND WHERE IS WRATHION?!

Introducing my arachnophobic girlfriend to WoW. Which starting area has the least spiders?

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:43 AM PDT

For my birthday, I told my girlfriend she has to play WoW with me. she's terribly afraid of spiders though so I want to avoid any zones where she's going to have to run through a field of arachnids. I haven't made a new character in ages so I don't remember anything about the starting zones. Which starting zone will assure the most rainbows-and-unicorns sort of experience?
