Overwatch youtubers are encouraging people to throw games in HotS for the Nexus Challenge!

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 10:05 AM PDT

Some Overwatch youtubers are telling people to throw games or stand afk in HotS and I heard that what they're doing is against Blizzards TOS. I'd suggest that you either try to reason with those people who throw or just report them because I've heard that this way they're not getting their Overwatch rewards.

I don't think that encouraging people to throw is acceptable as it'll make the game much more toxic and no one wants that. If you ever get paired with a person who's there just for the skins please try to reason with them at first. If they refuse to understand report them so Blizzard can take care of the problem.

If anyone wants to know who the youtubers are they can just PM me because I don't wanna get banned for witch hunting.

Edit: Yey front page! Also it's getting hard to PM everybody but I'll try and PM as many of you as I can.

Edit2: I'm going to sleep because where I live it's getting late so no more PM's for a few hours. If I'm free tomorrow I'll eventually PM a few more people.

Blizz please give the overwatch skins on VICTORY, so people stop AFKing

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 12:54 PM PDT

As the title suggests, giving skins for participation alone isnt a viable tactic when the people coming to get the said skins AFK and try to throw off a game.

Maybe Decard as a hero is too much to ask. But I think he is the top candidate for a new anoncer.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 01:34 PM PDT

Just imagine that iconic voice in your games, giving them a flavour of an epic journey! He will also fit pretty much any character since he is a storyteller and a sientist, wich allows him to describe whats happening in a more impersonal manner.

Please allow us to play all the maps already.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 07:23 AM PDT

I know we have newer players and we want people to get used to the new map. But I want to put on my eyepatch and hear the great captain yell at me again. Or just play tomb of the spider queen cuz its like the only map that matters in competetive.

Please allow everyone above level 100 or smthng to just play all the maps already? K? Cool.

I don't want to wait for it. Just do it already. Only new players get something out of this. So just put a level gate on it or something.

Why don't heroes banter in pre-game anymore?

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 02:27 AM PDT

Haven't seen much discussion on it. Not sure if it's unintended, but it's sad not hearing the heroes talk to each other anymore as the game is setting up.

Nexus challenge has changed my blizzard game alliance.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 04:31 PM PDT

It started with a second chance to get the Genji Oni skin. I didn't get it the first time because HOTS was too complicated for me understand and I hated tutorials. But this time, I decided to buckle-down and get the skin. It turns out, I really enjoy HOTS. LIKE REALLY ENJOY HOTS. I never was a fan of LOL, or any of these types of games, but for some reason, HOTS captured me. So! Now I'm no longer in the Overwatch Alliance, and I'm in the HOTS Alliance. Thanks Blizzard. Thanks Nexus Challenge. You have saved me from the Overwatch curse!

Legendary Chest Every 100 Levels

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 02:23 PM PDT

How about a LEGENDARY Chest every 100 levels? We have rare every 10, epic every 25, how about a legendary every 100? It could be made available after level 300 since getting to 300 is approximately level 5 on all heroes which can be achieved relatively easy.

Sorry if this was discussed before.

Blizzard Lore as Fast As Possible - Diablo Edition

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 03:59 PM PDT

Here I'll attempt to tackle the lore of each game and how each hero fits into it as succinctly as possible. Warning: There are bound to be 1000 inaccuracies and oversimplifications. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am in the comments.

EDIT: SPOILER WARNING, IDIOTS

Diablo

Since basically forever, Heaven and Hell have been at war. Demons can't be killed, so Diablo was captured and sent to sanctuary (Earth) to be imprisoned in a soul stone, but he managed to corrupt King Leoric and used his youngest son as a host to become compete again. Leoric and The Butcher the First were defeated by Aidan, Leoric's eldest, who also beat Diablo and lobotomized himself with the soul stone to imprison him. This didn't work and now Aidan is Diablo. Adria the Witch jumped Aidan's bones before he set off to conquer Sanctuary again and had Leah. She becomes important later.

Diablo II

Diablo is back, and he's organizing a family reunion. He invites all his brothers (except Azmodan and Belial) and slutty sister to kill everyone, but a bunch of adventurers show up to ruin his picnic, including the Necromancer Xul and Amazon Cassia under the advice of Tyrael. The heroes chase the misunderstood demons back to hell and kill them once and for all. Oh, and Tyrael blows up a big rock after Diablo's brother gets his stank on it, which makes Sonya angry.

Diablo III

Remember Leah? She's all growed up and ready to host the Lord of hell help the nephalem (Sonya, Valla, Li-Ming, Kharazim, Nazeebo, and Johanna) defeat the demons. Tyrael throws a hissy fit because the rest of the angels won't help kill the demons and gives himself genitals, plot amnesia, and books a ticket on the Meteor Express to humantown. The nephalem find an African American soul stone and use that to trap the souls of the demons once and for all. The Butcher the Second is retconned into being a bunch of different demons and subsequently killed. Azmodan the brilliant general of Hell snapchats all his battle plans and is defeated by the ARROGANT NEPHALEM and trapped in the dark grey soul stone. Leah turns out to be Diablo's Tiny Rick and with all the family in the soul stone (aaaaawkward), becomes Bootylicious Prime Evil Diablo. (S)he invades heaven and Auriel gives a speech. Diablo is defeated yet again and the Black Souls Matter Stone is sealed away once and for all. Some more stuff happens, but no other heroes are from that expac.

Believe it or not, that's the least convoluted story.

Oldies and 1.0 players: please don't get mad when people call our game easy.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 12:23 PM PDT

Yo,

Been seeing a lot of posts along the lines of "x MOBA player here, loving HoTS so far, it's pretty simple/casual/easy" followed by some oldies getting defensive about it, or feeling the need to explain why HoTS isn't in fact, easy.

Don't do this. Easy is a good thing. Ease of access and simplicity are pretty much vital to the growth of any game.

A well-designed game worth their salt is crafted to be engaging at all levels. Simple to the newer players with no experience, but grows increasingly deep as knowledge and skill grows, all while keeping the engagement curve steady.

Popular sports are evidence of this. You can be a complete casual and enjoy American football for the excitement and big flashy plays, but continue to stay interested as you learn more about strategies, personnel differences, and the more complicated rules of engagement.

Or, if you want a video game example, take the Super Smash Bros. series. What works as fun party games are also some of the most successful and enjoyed eSports because of how they works and create interest on every single level. Smash Bros. being "easy" is literally the reason why it's so popular.

We should want HoTS to be easy. We should want players to feel like they can enjoy the game and compete (at some level) with no knowledge, but get even better and more equipped as they learn from experience. Easy is not a con, an insult, or a bad thing -- it's good game design. To be honest no one should have to read several wikis, guides, and manuals just to get a foot in the door. A good game should teach you as you play, and help you learn from the experience. I feel like HoTS accomplishes this pretty well.

So yeah, when people come to this sub, or twitter, or the forums, or wherever and say HoTS is easy, agree with them. Because this is the thing that will propel our game to the top.

Abathur now literally 11% more playable

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 11:13 AM PDT

So I don't know if anyone else noticed, but it used to be that Pallid Swarm Abathur, the pink (former) Master skin, breathed green Zerg gas instead of the fittingly color coded gas as was the case for the other basic and Master skin tints, making it literally unplayable.

This has now been fixed. Thanks HotS team, for fixing something that had been bothering me ever since I first unlocked Master Abathur.

(In case you're wondering about the math, Abathur currently has 10 skins total including his base tint, so this makes him (10-9)/9 = 0.11111... = 11% more playable than before.)

Edit: as pointed out by u/SerphTheVoltar, there are actually 13 skins as Skelethur and it's variants aren't currently visible. This makes the actual increase in literal playability 1/12, or 8.33%.

I have played 50 games since 2.0 launched, and have reported 61 people for intentionally feeding, AFK, or toxicity. Something needs to change.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 07:37 PM PDT

I am a veteran Heroes player, I have been playing since the closed beta and have always loved the game. In the two years that I have enjoyed playing, I have reported a handful of people, no more than ten. It was very infrequent that I came across someone who bad-mouthed their teammates or cursed at new players for not understanding how a map worked. In my first five or so games, I encountered too much of this. In the sixth game, I began reporting people immediately and kept track.

Something. Has. To Change.

I have seen plenty of posts on this subreddit already about the flaming veterans, and the feeding Overwatch players. Now, there is nothing we, as a community, can do against the Overwatch players other than report them. Report them and inform Blizzard over and over again that they're throwing free things at people who don't care about their generosity.

As far as the toxic veterans go, this is where we step in. Do not engage them. The minute someone says something remotely offensive, especially to a new player, block and report them. Blizzard gave us the awesome capability to do this in game (just make sure you're in base when you do!) so that we don't forget. Then step in and offer support and advice.

I pride myself on being a helpful, friendly veteran who encourages people to try new heroes and new builds and discover on their own what works for them. This allows players to find their niche and fall in love with the game their own way--almost guaranteeing that our community and player base will not only grow, but those players will stay. I will take the time when a new person announces themselves and explain them the ropes of a map or a hero, if I understand them well enough myself. These new players are often so grateful that I make a few friends this way. Helping people to learn, especially when a huge influx happens, is vital to maintaining our friendly community.

Please do not toss aside new players! We are better than this. Not everyone who just opened Heroes for the first time, whether they come from League of Legends, Overwatch, Smite, or what have you, will understand how Heroes of the Storm works. Offering assistance and support is an easy, friendly way to encourage these players to stay.

tldr: Report toxic players immediately, do not encourage them. Help the newbies so they are more inclined to continue to play. Our community will strengthen in number, camaraderie will grow, and hopefully Blizzard will take notice. We are an amazing community, let's show the new players that!

Stats, in case anyone is interested:

  • Cursed Hollow: 10 games, 11 reports
  • Infernal Shrines: 7 games, 7 reports
  • Hanamura: 10 games, 15 reports
  • Braxis Holdout: 8 games, 9 reports
  • Towers of Doom: 7 games, 10 reports
  • Sky Temple: 8 games, 9 reports

I reported: 1 Abathur, 2 Alaraks, 1 Artanis, 1 Arthas, 2 Azmodans, 2 Cassias, 1 Chen, 2 Diablos, 3 E.T.C.s, 8 Genjis, 2 Greymanes, 4 Illidans, 2 Jainas, 1 Kael'thas, 2 Kharazims, 3 Li Mings, 2 Lucios, 1 Murky, 1 Nazeebo, 3 Novas, 2 Ragnaroses (Ragnarosi?), 2 Raynors, 1 Samuro, 1 Tracer, 1 Valeera, 3 Vallas, 2 Varians, 1 Xul, 1 Zarya, 3 Zul'jins

14 reports for AFK. 17 reports for intentionally feeding. 30 reports for toxicity.

Edit: Formatting and clarity.

Edit 2: Added statistics.

The payloads on Hanamura should have collision detection IMO.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 02:15 AM PDT

I was playing Diablo and tried to pin somebody against the payload with my Q, only to find out that I actually slide up the side of the payload and the enemy did not get stunned. I mean its a solid object that you cant walk through, shouldn't it have collision detection?

Random hero shouldn't mean random cosmetics.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 11:57 AM PDT

Been having fun playing dress up with my heroes from all the loot boxes, thanks Blizz!

However, Been queuing as random for fast queue times, and I don't need to level specific heroes. I just wanna level anyone. I get into games with random cosmetics. Why? I'd like to join a game as a random hero with the cosmetics I set up for that hero. Thanks

Slowly ditching Overwatch for HOTS

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 01:52 AM PDT

Hey guys,

So I used to play HOTS during my high school years, which meant I already had quite a progression on my account, and when I came back to this game for the 2.0 event, damn it was raining lootboxes!

But yeah as said before, I think I'm slowly starting to give more of my time to HOTS rather than OW, there's so much more content!

Anyone else in the same situation? It's just sad that none of my IRL friends wants to play this game... they say it's the easy lol :(

As a Smite player for the past year, it feels good to not be milked for my cash.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 04:41 AM PDT

This is mainly about skins and cosmetics, since I still like the way Smite is played over the normal MOBA style, although this game is waaaaaay more casual and balanced then Smite.

I wont get too in depth into Smite/Hi-Rez getting greedy, but Heroes 2.0 really spoiled me. One of the legendary skins in HOTS is about $5. A skin like that in Smite would require you to buy $60 worth of skins even if you hated all of the skins and only liked the "legendary".

It's so nice being able to have a chance at a really good skin every level, It makes me wanna try new characters more and try to get decent at them.

HGC Europe :: Team Liquid vs Fnatic :: Discussion Thread

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 12:55 PM PDT

Previous match thread: HGC Europe :: beGenius ESC vs Team expert :: Discussion Thread - can be useful if this thread is posted too early.

Fnatic have been on a roll since their loss to Team Dignitas in the Grand Finals of the Western Clash. The team steamrolled through Team expert, Playing Ducks, and BeGenius in their first two weeks back in action.

Team Liquid look slightly less dominant recently. While they remain the only undefeated team in the European HGC, they have been slipping — dropping two games against Tricked esport and Playing Ducks in Week 6. They turned things around last weekend against Synergy, but Synergy has yet to beat any team ranked above them. Liquid have a difficult weekend ahead of them — this match against Fnatic will play out on Saturday, and then they face Team Dignitas on Sunday. They lost to both teams at the Western Clash.

Team Liquid is not a team you can count out though, regardless of their match history. They are undefeated for a reason, and will show up this weekend. The real question is, will it be enough? Can they show us again, as they did in the first five weeks, that they are the best online team in Europe?

New Players: Into the Nexus Podcast made an episode just for you

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 11:26 AM PDT

Been seeing a lot of new players joining in here this week. If you're looking to learn more about the game, the Into the Nexus podcast is one of the best around for Heroes players, and on this week's episode, they dedicated their whole strategy section to basic strategies for starting out and learning this game. It's pretty awesome.

Episode Link: http://amove.tv/news/2017/4/27/163-into-the-nexus-heroes-2gooooo

VOD and Podcast links are there.

Listen to the intro for sure. They do talk about news for awhile in the middle, but the strategy part starts about 2/3rds of the way into the episode.

I've been listening every week for about a year and a half. The hosts are great, and are Platinum / Diamond / Masters players. They also have two regular guests on once a month: Jeff Canata from Slashfilm and DLC and other podcasts who is a Silver player, and Dunktrain who is a pro player / coach / caster. So they really hit strategy and discussion for all levels of players.

If you like that show, also check out Core and Lords of the Storm for your everyday player type of content, and also Town Hall Heroes if you start getting interested in the Pro / Esports scene.

Suggestion: Show player banners on MVP screen

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 06:11 AM PDT

Seems like optimal real estate to show off a part of your loadout that otherwise gets seen so rarely, and would make getting on the MVP screen more special because you can show off more of your hard-earned l00t.

I love the idea and the look of the banners, I just wish they were more visible, and thought this might help.
