Tips

Here is a compilation of tips from /u/shiradota last year

  • Make a Ticketmaster.com profile and download the Ticketmaster app if you haven't already: iOS, Android
  • If you have friends that are interested or part of a large group try and buy for the others if you get through
  • Find some stable internet, preferably home internet on a physical connection or somewhere secure like a University or government wifi spot
  • Have your payment method handy - Ticketmaster only accepts major credit card, Ticketmaster gift card, US debit card with a major credit card logo, or Apple Pay on mobile and there is a 15 minute timer to complete your transaction
  • Login to the ticket site at least 5 minutes before the sell times with as many devices as you can.
  • Multiple browsers are a bad idea according to: http://www.ticketmaster.com/insidertips
  • Use More Than One Computer
  • Two fans are better than one – toss a friend your tablet. But don't use more than one browser (or browser tab) on each device, or we'll think you're a bot and cancel your tickets.
  • Try and refresh just before the exact time, the first 60s is critical, if you fail keep refreshing
  • Lots of people mentioned that the Ticketmaster mobile app had a good success rate for past TIs
  • If you get accepted relax, take a deep breath the hard part is over
  • Prepare yourself for sticker shock - there will be an additional Ticketmaster fee on top off the ticket prices
  • You will have to answer a captcha this could be as simple as 1234, click here to confirm you are not a bot. Here are some captcha tips directly from Ticketmaster
    • Don't worry about capitalization or punctuation when typing.
    • Type words with or without spaces between them – either way is fine.
    • If you can't read the security phrase, click "New Phrase" to get different words.

Let's talk about Chinese crowd

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 03:52 AM PDT

There was a thread about Chinese crowd and it was quickly deleted. I don't really know why, as I don't mind having a open discussion about it. There's a lot of interesting things to talk about and since we are waiting for the next patch and Kiev, why can't we have some shitpost?

So, many are complaining, that the crowd at DAC is too biased towards Chinese teams. That's very true, and the reason for it is rather simple, there was not enough fans for western teams present at the event. To be more precise, a) nearly zero non-Chinese fans traveled to Shanghai to support their team, b) nearly zero local Chinese audience supports western team.

For a), it's quite understandable that foreigners don't like to visit China. International travel is quite a headache, and going to China, as your media depicts, is quite deadly. Plus, DAC is not a major anymore, so it is even harder to justify the travel. OK, that's fine. But remember, international travels are hard to local Chinese people as well. For many many local Chinese people, this is the only international tournament supported by Valve they have a chance to watch; this is, China TI. So they will be maniac, especially for the teams and players they love.

Now, if it's only reason a) that's not a big problem at all. There have been international tournaments held at places that doesn't get a lot of visitors. But the crowd seems quite balanced, since there are local supporters for different teams going into the event. However, you rarely see Chinese fans support western teams. And yes there's some nationalism shit going on here but let's turn the table around and think how the western dota community appeals to Chinese fan base. How many western teams open up Chinese sns account and interact with the fans online? How many western teams/talents produces/translates contents for Chinese dota fans? How many players attempt to speak Chinese in interviews? Oh, is that too much? But that's what we Chinese dota community do for western scenes. You get NewBee ama here, you get Chinese meme comics, translated posts here, you get Rotk trying his best to find the right English word for you here. Anyway, it's OK, we can live with that.

Love and support goes both ways. It's really not that hard to win over Chinese crowd. EE was the crowd's favorite in Shanghai Major. Sumail had a decent fanbase after the he shits all Chinese teams at the first DAC.

But more often than not China is depicted as the opponent of the rest of the world. The Free To Play documentary basically set Chinese teams up as villains. At TI2 the whole western crowd chants USA for any team playing against China. You call our crowd racist, but you kept making jokes on our culture in the English panel. I guess that's OK, we can live with that.

But I can't really bear it anymore, when you call out the Chinese crowd for supporting their team playing at their hometown. I understand maybe you are not that attached to your favorite player or favorite team. But please don't complain about other people who love the game as much as you do. It hurts very very hard.

Honestly I don't really think I need to stay up to 4am to write this post. I'm sure it's just the reddit being stupid as usual. I've met many nice people at LANs that made me believe all dota fans over the world are a single family. I hope that continues to be true in the future.

You guys really make the recent dota2 events stand out by a lightyear, compared to all other esport and sport events. Excellent HUDs, super smooth handling of all situations, adapting to the audience with slacks bullshit, super nice additions to the streams such as courier cam, rune cam, roshan cam, nice and well made replays.

Also thanks to the observers, mods and casters - excellent as always.

I'd tip my dota 2 hats if i had some.

GG WP.

MONTHLY BUG PSA: Pugna's Decrepify STILL not working on Tombstone!!!

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 02:52 AM PDT

*6.78: Decrepify can now target Tombstone. *

Ever since 6.85 this HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY!!! It puts Decrepify on cooldown, but DOES NOT make the Tombstone immune to rightclicks like it should! Posting this now on a workday so maybe Valve will notice. I WILL keep doing this every month until it is fixed! This is an undeniably cool interaction, with no reason to be removed from the game. Please fix Valve!

IG Post DAC Interview Excerpts [Translated]

Posted: 04 Apr 2017 07:24 AM PDT

Interview Title: IG DAC Interview: Better Than Any Empire I Built Before; BurNing No Plans for Retirement

Original Link: http://www.toutiao.com/i6405120108762497538/

Note: This is an amateur translation, and I take no responsibility for any mistakes or misinterpretations, this translation does not necessarily represent the views of the players or original author etc. etc. I only hope to share a little bit of insight into the Chinese dota scene and also because I'm a BurNIng fangay. Credit to original source containing full interview linked above.

Q: Lifting the trophy after so long, how do you [BurNIng] feel?

BurNIng: It hasn't been that long right (laughs)? From VG to IG, no body thought we could do well. Taking the championship with my little bros felt really great. It's better than any empire I built before (referring to BurNIng's glorious career, most notable in Ehome).

Q: What does this DAC mean for your professional career?

BurNIng: Means I can browse some forums now (laughs), and its also a encouragement to us. We can be very strong.

Q: You were knocked to the lower bracket by OG, and you beat them 3-0 today. What changes did you make?

BurNing: I think they only had a few lineups, all we had to do was ban them.

Q: Before xxs was in DKS, and at that time you were already a star player in DK. Now you are in the same team as BurNIng, after being teammates for so long, how do you feel?

xxs: Usually in scrims he is quite serious, carrying us to victory. In real life he is really funny. Usually he's quite deep, on stream he tricks viewers for gifts, and sells our friend slots.

Q: You (Boboka) and BurNing, who is the one and only B-god?

Boboka: Your question, don't stir trouble in our team.

BurNIng: It's him, it's him.

Q: BurNIng said in a previos interview, no matter what happens in TI7 you will retire. Your performance has been so good latelt, wouldn't it be a shame if you retired? Will you continue playing?

BurNIng: This question is too scary, I don't want to answer. If I answer I will get memed. Depends on luck, maybe I'll toss a coin after TI7.

Q: What do you have to say to your old team mate ROTK?

BurNIng: I'll spam him with some stream gifts, yesterday after the all stars match we talked a lot. He's words were a great help to me. I'll spam him with some gifts.

Q: In an interview you've (Op) been asked why you are so good at committing suicide (with bloodstone). In your matches, you committed suicide a lot of times to save BurNIng. Did you do it yourself or did BurNIng ask you to?

Op: No No No, I'm BurNIng's idol*, in a team fight I just fight by watching BurNIng's health bar.

*Note: Not sure it is a typo in the original transcript and its meant to be BurNIng is Op's idol.

Q: Do you have anything to say to your fans that are about to praise you?

BurNIng: Thanks to everyone for their support. Don't praise me too much, there was a large element of luck in this tournament for us. We'll train hard, and hope to bring everyone some more exciting games.
