This week at Bungie, we're setting the guest list for the Destiny 2 gameplay premiere.

As you might expect, it's a pretty big deal for us. Builds are being deployed and reviewed. Bugs are being identified and squashed. Right beside all the development work being poured into reveal (and beyond), our people are getting prepped to stand on stage and put on what we hope is one hell of a show for you. We're getting butterflies as we count down the days.

Image Link

We'll be live on May 18th. We hope you'll join us.

You might have noticed that we're inviting some special guests from the media and our community to be part of a live audience for this premiere. They'll be among the first players to get some hands-on time with Destiny 2 immediately after the conclusion of the livestream. The PS4 and PC versions of the game will be on display, so you should expect another wave of news, coverage, and content to dig into after the event is over.

We hope you're as excited as we are. Whether you're in attendance at the show in person, represented by a community leader, or simply watching the stream from the comfort of your home, we plan to make it worth your while.

Thanks for all the support and positive energy since the first reveal. It's been incredible to witness and we can't wait to show you more.

All of this happens in 20 days.

Universal Translator

Bungie.net has received a couple of updates to make some aspects of your community experience more diverse and more playful. Let's check 'em out.

Image Link

For starters, our forum has been localized – meaning you can now filter the conversation by various languages there. In the past, we localized the interface for our site, providing prompts in different languages that led to a place where most everyone was speaking English. Given that Destiny 2 is being localized by our own team at Bungie, we can do better than that!

Now, the experience is way more global-friendly.

Image Link

At the top of the forum, in the same place where you filter topics or create your own, you can now select a variety of forms of human communication. This will let you browse topics created by Guardians who speak your language. It's another step in our campaign to bring together the people who play our games.

As our community grows around the world, so will the staff that helps us moderate the conversation. Please join us in welcoming the new community volunteers who will make the quality of the forum their personal responsibility. The following Guardians now carry the rank (and privileges) of Mentors and Ninjas.

Dimitrios
Fuzzle
Ecto1italia
Psyperactive81
Madmax
Seraphim Crypto
Truexadir

Welcome aboard, new people! Thanks for helping us keep the place clean.

Throwing Stickies

The Destiny Companion application also received an update that delivered stickers you can use to pepper your iPhone conversations.

Image Link

They are live right now. If you want to activate this feature on your iPhone, make sure you're using the newest software, and follow the red arrows below to replicate these steps:

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a Destiny sticker will speak volumes to a fellow Guardian.

Shooting at Troublemakers

When trouble finds you, the specialists from Destiny Player Support are the hired guns that rally to your aid.

This is their report.

Eververse Trading Co. Troubleshooting With the release of Destiny Update 2.6.0, the Silver and Eververse Guided Support was updated with information concerning the most common issues players experience when purchasing Silver or in-game items from Eververse Trading Co.

If you encounter an issue where you have purchased Silver but cannot progress your transaction past "Silver Sync Pending", please follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Wait up to 30 seconds: Allow for up to 30 seconds to pass to see if the Silver amount is added to the account.
  2. Re-launch Destiny: If the Silver is not added to the account after the time has passed, log out of Destiny and then log back into any character.
  3. Sign out of console account: If the Silver balance does not reflect the purchased Silver amount, please close Destiny and completely log out of PSN or Xbox account. It may also be advisable to clear the console cache.
  4. Check for successful transaction: Ensure that your transaction shows as successfully completed according to the PSN Store or Xbox Marketplace.
  5. Contact platform support: If the purchase shows as successful, please contact PlayStation Support or Xbox Support to investigate potential issues with your transaction.

If you experience any issues after proceeding through these troubleshooting steps, please see our newly updated contact form. Please Note: Contact forms must be submitted with all requested information for investigation purposes, and a valid e-mail address for further contact by Destiny Player Support.

I'll be at the gameplay reveal, but the real heroes at Bungie – the ones that make the game – will be on the stage. Even more of us will be on hand to help our guests take their first step into this new world. Perhaps someone you follow will be there to tell their version of the tale.

Perhaps you'll be there, too. We're not done filling the seats.

Details about the Gameplay Reveal on the 18th of May

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 08:00 AM PDT

Guardians,

I wanted to share a few details about the upcoming gameplay reveal scheduled for the 18th of May. I've been lucky enough to have been invited to it, so thought I'd share what I've been told. I'll put it here in text, but have also made a video to summarise if that's your poison:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pRENkaW7mA&t=4s

Invitees: this isn't just Deej + 2 or 3 community members. Instead, a VERY large number of community members have been invited to this event, as well as notable youtube/twitch personalities outside of the community. I don't know the exact number, but it's certainly more than a handful.

Date: 18th May

Times: Keynote begins at 10am (live-stream most likely to start then)

Hands on: all invitees will have the chance to go hands on with Destiny 2 from the conclusion of the keynote livestream until the event finishes in the evening, which is around 6pm I believe. We'll be going hands-on with both the console version (unclear which console) and the PC version. CAPTURE IS PERMITTED, and I have not been informed of any capture restrictions yet, but there will likely be a few of them since it's pretty common at these sort of events.

Embargo details: at this point, no embargo details have been communicated, but I expect there to be a 2-3 day embargo period on captured footage to give everyone an equal chance of cutting it etc. You can expect to see plenty of content hitting YouTube on the 20/21st. Please note that this is me speculating based on prior experience, as no information has been provided yet.

That is all I know. I hope it's useful to you. All the best :)

Destiny streamers are teasing an announcement to occur at 10AM US Central

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:50 AM PDT

UPDATE: Looks like it's an invitation to the Destiny 2 Game play premiere:

https://twitter.com/tripleWRECK/status/857973489340260353

Looks like Bungie sent a box to several Destiny streamers.

The box is from Activision and has "Destiny-PR" as a ref.

Among the streamers to have gotten the box are Dr. Lupo, TripleWreck, and Datto.

What do you think is in the box? Let the speculation begin! I believe this could be the reason what the TWAB was delayed...

UPDATE: Looks like Byf got one as well, credit to /u/black_burn_pt

[Tower Thought] Taniks is the most unlucky guy in destiny.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 03:12 AM PDT

So first - he's homeless. A free man that kneels to no one, but unfortunately being free doesn't pay the rent and he can't afford a house.

And let's not forget he is Tanks "The Scarred". Something traumatic happened early in his life that left a brand on him and his name for everyone to know.

Then The Taken invade the ketch he was squatting in. So some random archon priest that was incompetent enough to get captured in a cell from the prison of elders, is worthy of being ascended by Oryx, but not a powerful and free warleader...

Then he gets a lucky break and is perfected by Siva. But nooooo, we can't have that...

Like, that whole time this dude was just chilling on the moon, fighting the hive, trying to make a home and raise a family. And we went out of our way to get up that ketch and kill him time and time again...

P.S. Bungo, why did you remove the best strike intro in the game. LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE.

Hunters and Warlocks, buy the Legacy Body Armor Engram from Xur this week to have 15 Sleeper Simulant shots!

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 05:36 AM PDT

Hello Guardians!

This week Xur is selling Legacy Body Armor Engram. The year 1 versions of Lucky Raspberry and Heart of the Praxic Fire will always roll with heavy ammo and fusion rifle ammo which means you can hold 15 Sleeper Simulant shots if you pop a Heavy Ammo Synth while one of them are equipped. finally us Hunters can have more heavy ammo than those damn Titans/s.

This is very useful for the Templar, Atheon, Oryx and Vosik fights.

EDIT: For clarification, you don't have the armor piece equipped during the fight. Before the fight you switch to the armor piece, pop a heavy and then switch back to your 400 gear. Even though you have your 400 gear equipped you will still keep those 15 shots.

Has anyone else noticed these "post-cards" on Bungie.net?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 08:56 AM PDT

So I was browsing on the Vendors page and I noticed these cards at the bottom. I'd never seen them before, and when I inspected them it turns out each one has a short little story on the back, written by Fenchurch Everis to Tess.

Just thought it was a cool little detail.

One of them talks about finding a group of survivors in the ruins of Earth who communicate only with hand gestures, another talks about how he is banned from the tower for playing a joke on Zavala, and one talks about how he disguised himself to hang out in an area that he wasn't supposed to be in, and also that he has a ghost named Neville, and that he may be an Exo (get's the old mind-core churning).

Enjoy!

/r/DestinyTheGame Content Gap Bingo!

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 11:28 AM PDT

Well everyone, we've made it. The Age of Triumph has done the full circuit around the raids and we are now faced with "the wait."

If you're on LFG like me, you've already easy marked off your cards for Vault of Glass, Crota's End, King's Fall, and Wrath of the Machine

While Destiny is now waiting for details on Destiny 2, we are in an official content gap. The problem is, Reddit never rests. It goes on and on and on and on. Montages happen and glitches are hilarious. Stuff is broke and people are getting married by a Cayde-6 cosplayer. There is so much to talk about when there's nothing left to talk about! So now we are left with a different kind of Bingo game to play, and that's one every submitter is playing along with even if they don't know it. I present to you /r/DestinyTheGame Content Gap Bingo! If a post hits the front page of the subreddit and matches the card mark it off! Let's face it, you were going to check the site a couple of times between now and September anyway...

Crota's End: Viking Funeral Does Increase Sword Damage

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 07:47 AM PDT

Posting this after seeing some comments recently, sure that any debuffs applied to Crota would not increase sword damage. There's no doubt that the buff from WoL will work. But hear this, Viking Funeral also works. I found a couple of Crota smashing YouTube vids for proof, and the damage numbers show a base WoL buffed damage of ~200k, then ~210k after one grenade, up to a max of ~220k per slam.

Where are the links? Both vids happened to be from channels banned on this sub! If you search for "Crota 390" you should hopefully find the same sources I did. This is my 3rd post, previous two were removed by mods because of the YouTube vids that were linked.

Has anyone actually tested tether and/ or melting point in the 390 version? Maybe a trifecta of damage buffs is possible...

EDIT: Suggestion to test Melting Point. It only takes 3 Gjallerhorns to down Crota anyway. Have 4 staying up top to down Crota and eventually take care of Oversoul. Send two Titans to prep and get to usual spot. One with bubble (Illuminated WoL), other with Insurmountable Skullfort or Thagomizers (Sunbreaker with double melee melting point). When Crota is being downed the Sunbreaker leaves fractionally earlier to apply melting point as sword slams come in. Back to bubble, then do it again. Do super slam while melting point is still burning. It'll be sweet if it works, especially with VF too...

Iron Lords' Legacy Max = 8

If you're like me and inadvertently hoarding Iron Lords' Legacies while waiting for great rolls, the max stack size is 8. If you complete Tyra's quest while already carrying 8, a 9th Legacy is not awarded.

Don't know if this has already been posted. I searched and couldn't find it.

Need Practice with Sword for Crota's End? Check out CoO this Week.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 08:00 AM PDT

I know its been said before but can't hurt to remind people.

For anyone wishing to get better with the dynamics of running sword in the 390 crotas end crota fight, head to court of Oryx and use an antiquated rune and you'll fight against baby crota.

If you are 400 you can easily solo him and practice by yourself so you can feel comfortable in the raid doing it. At LL 400 Titans and Warlocks can easily solo practice here as a single fusion grenade takes away baby crotas shield.

So for practice you take down the sword bearer, pick up sword run towards baby crota throw a fusion grenade keep running towards him as it explodes and he goes down. Give him 3 slams and hes dead. Rinse and repeat for more practice with the timing of the slams and how he stands up.

Massive Breakdown of the Effects of Zoom in Destiny

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:45 AM PDT

Hey Guardians, I thought now might be a good time to discuss some of the more confusing stats and terms in Destiny, where the definitions are well established but not always well known. I was going to talk about several different ones, but then writing this thing about Optics and Zoom got away from me, so that's all I have time for today. Enjoy!

Massive Breakdown Podcast Discussing These Terms and More

Full Disclosure: I am a host of the Massive Breakdown Podcast. The link contains an audio discussion of these terms and more between myself and /u/Mercules904, which I personally really enjoyed. Click it or don't click it, I don't make a dime either way. Now on to the post!

EDIT: Finally, please realize that this is targeted more at newer and less experienced Guardians, as well as those who have been around but are perhaps less into digging through stats and databases. It's going to be old hat for a lot of more experienced Guardians, and I know this.

Optics

Optics is a hidden stat that you can see when you view a weapon through one of the database sites (destinytracker, db.planetdestiny, guardian.gg, etc), but is not shown in the Armory or in-game. It's an integer between 10 and 100 (it could go higher, I suppose), and at first glance might seem a bit opaque to a new player. So let's define it:

Optics converts directly to a weapon's ADS (Aim Down Sights) zoom factor in the game. Simply divide by 10, and you have the zoom factor.

For almost all Exotics as well as other weapons with fixed scopes (many Raid weapons, Fusion Rifles, etc) this stat is fixed and unchanging - their zoom factor when aiming down sights is always the same. However, for many legendary weapons, this stat will vary up and down based on the Sight/Scope selected from the Perk tree. Generally they'll give you an idea if they're higher or lower zoom, and in many cases you may not care too much what the exact value of a particular scope is.

How to Find the Zoom Factor In-Game for Any Sight/Scope

However, there are situations where it is useful to know which scopes have more or less zoom. Snipers are the prime example, where lower zoom scopes are generally favored for their wider fields of view, but preferences abound.

[DestinyScopes.com](destinyscopes.com) has this info for most if not all weapons, but maybe browsing the internet is too much work, or maybe you want to double check them in-game. Good news! About a year ago, /u/Mercules904 figured out a really simple way to calculate the zoom factor of any scope. Here it is:

You'll need:

  • A weapon with the desired scope
  • A Patrol Beacon
  • A long sightline to said Patrol Beacon

Head to Patrol, find an area that will work for you, and then find the farthest possible distance from that Patrol Beacon where it will still display a distance number to you in meters while you're aiming down sights. Keep backing up until you can see the beacon, but the numbers disappear, and write down the last distance it gave you. Got that?

Okay, now divide that number by 15 (the default max distance in meters at which Patrol Beacons tell you how far away they are while not aiming down sights), and you have your scope's zoom factor.

Simply put:

  1. Find the farthest distance from which you can see a numerical distance displayed on a Patrol Beacon.
  2. Divide that number by 15 to get your current Zoom Factor.

It's really pretty neat!

NOTE: This method is not foolproof, and at the very least seems to be inaccurate on Stillpiercer. It is possible that the Self Spotter perk is affecting that calculation, but please comment below if you're aware of other weapons where this doesn't match up.

ADS Effects on Damage Drop Off and Aim Assist Drop Off

One of the more commonly known effects of Zoom is that it extends the point at which your Damage starts to drop off - that is, the point at which your gun is no longer inflicting max damage. By extension, it also pushes out the distance before your gun starts doing its minimum damage.

The distance at which damage falloff starts is directly multiplied by the zoom stat. If a 2x zoom pulse rifle has damage falloff that starts at 30 meters, changing its scope to a 4x scope will have damage falloff that starts at 60 meters. - /u/gintellectual

Here's a clip showing how significant this difference can be.

But did you know that it also pushes out the distance before your Aim Assist drops off, as well? Aim Assist is the effect in the game that causes your reticle to slow down near and stick to enemy targets in motion. It also angles bullet paths toward enemies when your shooting is just a little off. It's distinct from Accuracy, but I'm not getting into those complexities here - Merc's got that handled. If you don't feel like reading that article now, just know that having more Range and more Zoom (or Optics) will help you land shots at greater distances thanks in part to the drop-off points getting pushed out farther away from you.

ADS Effects on Accuracy

So I mentioned Accuracy, right? Turns out that when Aiming Down Sights, you get greater accuracy based on your zoom factor, too. This is another item confirmed by Bungie in last year's June Update. While I've not tested it thoroughly in-game, it is intuitive knowledge for most of us that aiming down sights in Destiny makes our shots more likely to go where we want them. Especially with Hand Cannons...

Of course, the benefits of this increased accuracy would be less valuable without the final effect of zoom, below.

ADS Effects on Recoil

That's right, your Zoom Factor affects the recoil of your weapon while Aiming Down Sights. This effect is probably less well-known, or at least less-talked about, but is thoroughly established and even confirmed by Bungie. The idea is that Bungie wants our weapons to feel consistent across not only all game modes, but all zoom levels - basically, the guns should feel about the same no matter how we're using them.

So here's how it works: the actual and visual recoil of your weapon are reduced based on your zoom factor. Simply put: higher zoom means less recoil. It doesn't seem to be directly proportional, but it does scale up and down.

So why doesn't it always feel that way when you're shooting your gun? Actually, it does, but it's hard to notice if you're not looking for it. First, here's a quick test you can do to spot a dramatic version of this change (it works as a thought experiment, too):

I recorded myself doing this in the second part of that video.

Go into a Private Match with a high impact Sniper Rifle (lots of recoil, right?). Find a wall somewhere to stand in front of. Hipfire into it a few times consecutively, noting how high you bounce and where the subsequent shots end up. Got it?

Okay, time for step 2. Now Aim Down Sights at the same wall and fire the same number of shots consecutively. See the difference? It's pretty dramatic on Snipers, thanks to high zoom.

Recoil distance in pixels is directly related to Stability, and the recoil in pixels on the screen is unchanged by zoom. This means that zooming in effectively reduces recoil / boosts Stability proportionally. - paraphrased from /u/gintellectual

Why does it work this way? IRL, a gun is going to kick the same amount whether you're looking through a scope or not, although bracing the gun against your arm/shoulder (I don't really shoot while aiming is the analogue we're comparing to here, and would reduce/control that recoil factor. That said, the amount of recoil reduction isn't going to change based on magnification levels, the way it does in Destiny.

But, in-game, think about it like this: If your reticle was bouncing as high in ADS as it does in hipfire, you'd never be able to fire a follow up with a sniper or other high zoom weapon - you wouldn't even know which part of the room you were looking at anymore.

That would be a negative experience which, salt notwithstanding, Bungie does at least try to minimize. Modifying recoil relative to your zoom factor is actually a pretty elegant solution, if you think about it. Like Greg Peng explained back in June of last year, enemies feel closer when you're zoomed in. It just feels natural that your sight should bounce less after each shot.

Okay, that's all for now, Guardians. Thanks for reading, and if you enjoyed this post let me know what other Destiny terms you'd like explained in written form, and maybe I'll be back with something new next week.

The Cryptographic shader is the way to go if you have one random piece of well-rolled Zavala bounty armor.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 08:02 AM PDT

TL;DR: Title.

Been seeing a few posts here in the last few months talking about this armor. The set that comes out of the Zavala strike bounties (the Exultation, Dying Star, and Snowglare sets) looks really cool with all its shine and etchings, but the burnished gold areas aren't affected by shaders. This can be annoying if you have other pieces of armor that aren't from these sets and still want to look stylish. If you're like me, and casually obsessive about this sort of thing, you've probably cycled through a lot of different shaders trying to find something that doesn't make it look like it was laundry day at your Titan's apartment and you're wearing tuxedo pants with your Twilight Garrison hoodie.

Enter the Cryptographic shader, the one that drops from normal mode Crota's End. I hadn't given this thing a look since year 1, but I took it out today to discover that the burnished gold finish it gives various bits of armor is a pretty darn good match for the etched areas of the Zavala armor. Here's what it looks like in action - the helmet and legs are Zavala armor, the arms are another legendary set, and the chest is the Twilight Garrison.

Anyway, give this a shot if you want to use a piece or two from the Zavala sets and also want to look like you know how to dress yourself.

Hunter Knife

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 08:34 AM PDT

Started to make my own Hunter Knife on my spare time cuz why not. The knife is supposed to be 17in long but that's a little much. I cut mine to 12 inches long. Maybe I'll make a 17on one later.

www.imgur.com/a/EcbYR

Next step is to make a program to cut the Hunter symbol in it and the other features and then to grind a blade in.

Edit: So this thing blew up xD thanks guys! I didnt expect this type of response. You all totaly mafe my day. I'm defiantly going to be looking into making many of these for all of you and maybe give you guys a special discount when I finnaly sell them. ;) so here's the jist of it all roght now.

I can make this out of almost any material. The ones I'm going to start with are Alumium, stainless steel, brass, and bronze. If you have others you want let me know.(Or any plastics to, if you don't care about it being a weighted item)

I could make them to order. Like if you want the regular Hunter Knife look with the Hunter Symbol on it or with you name or any other picture almost I could do that. Or however. Might be a special thing though. Not forever because that's alot of extra work.

I was thinking to make the ones for cosplay not super sharp, just do a dull blade so it looks the part, and if you want it to be a real knife. Or just a drop if you want to do the rest your self.

As far as pricing goes I still have i idea. I'm thinking if selling them for about 100. Seems fair for an awesome knife. But price would carry on material, if you want it sharp or not, Hunter logo in it or some other logo, there's alotnof variables I have no idea about but maybe 100 or so.

Shot for 3 on the grenade window in the nightfall.

My joy was matched only by my fireteam's stoic indifference.

Do Crota helmet perks give more damage when using the sword?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:11 AM PDT

A friend was running the sword on Crota and feels he does more damage when wearing the CE raid helmet. The perk on the helmet states weapons do extra damage when the oversoul is active. Thus, the second down of Crota is somewhat under the oversoul (if your team doesn't shoot it until after the second down like we do). Would the sword get this buff in damage from wearing this helmet?
