Holy shit civ V is beautiful!

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 04:07 PM PDT

I've been playing this game on my 2011 MBAir. I've always played in minimum everything and lower resolution because of my HD3000 and macOS and the game doesn't exactly run fast.

After disabling some animations related with combat and movement, turn ending times speed up a lot, and now it's alright to play in standard map size.

Then I got the revelation. The major limiting for Civ (up to 5) performance is the CPU, so why don't I give it a go to play with better graphic settings now that those animations are disabled and I know the limits of map size?

I bumped things up as much as I could... And oh god, this game is so, so beautiful! I imagine how great it must be to play Civ 5 or 6 on a 4k gigantic TV using a 7700k and a 1080XP and gigantic maps with everything on max. It's such a beautiful game.

After playing as a lime scout in tf2 for 1500h and seeing gaming as a "poor" disease that needs to be fixed, I can now imagine myself teaching my future kids how to play Civ, playing with them and so on. And then backstab them, take their cities and make them my puppets if they want to survive!

Don't upvote; Quick Q about refusing trades [VI]

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:08 PM PDT

If another leader comes to me offering a trade, and I refuse the deal, is there a diplo hit to that? Or is it diplo neutral?

Thx!

I have never seen the AI go for a Conquest Victory.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:53 AM PDT

The AI in Civ VI never actually seems to try and conquer more than maybe one of its direct neighbors' capitals - I have never actually seen the AI really start to try and steamroll multiple other Civs on its continent, the way that a player going for a conquest victory might. I wonder how the AI is programmed to actually SEEK a conquest victory.

How do you make the end run of a dom victory more interesting?

When it looks inevitable, especially after you've nuked everybody and are just making your way to each capital. Seems to be a chore regardless of which difficulty you play.

I would like to be able to trade specific tiles with other players / the AIs. Or propose open borders for only a certain set of tiles. Generally, more options than war or everywhere-open-borders for access to tiles.

This sort of diplomacy happens a lot IRL. State A needs ocean access, State B owns a valuable canal but is otherwise isolationist, etc.

@FRAXIS: Please institute a temp ban for quitting in the early game on CIV VI multiplayer!

I think a temp ban for quitters, kind of like the one in Overwatch for example, would vastly improve the multiplayer experience.

Edit: FIRAXIS*

Change Civ5 language to Russian?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 03:57 PM PDT

Hello, a few days ago I've started to learn russian. I was wondering if I could change the language to russian, I think it will help me to familiarize with some words. But when I check in the Steam language tab it only lets me select english, french spanish, german and I think the other one is italian.

Is there a way to play the russian version if I'm not from russia?

What's the best way to learn Civ VI?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 06:45 PM PDT

I have around 500 hours playing Civ V, and more for Civ IV, but I'm still really confused watching Civ VI LPs. I just don't understand all the new mechanisms such as districts, campuses?, civics, etc.

How did all the current Civ VI players learn the new mechanisms in the game? Any resources to point to such as YouTube videos that ELI5?

AI too aggressive (Civ 5)

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 02:19 PM PDT

Is there a mod that can make the AI less aggressive? All I could find was an eternal peace mod, which is not what I want. I still want there to be conflicts in the game, just not every 5 minutes for no good reason.

Besides the basically mandatory UI mod, what are your other "must have" mods?

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 05:49 PM PDT

Civ 6 is a good but flawed game, and while Vanilla Civ 6 is certainly acceptable, it certainly has a ton of room to improve from both a balance and fun standpoint. To that end, I've been experimenting with a bunch of different mods to change up the game, but there's no need for me to do all the searching alone. Which mods do you guys most find to be indispensable?
