The Legend of Zelda - 9 days left! 9 Zelda games remain! Let's discuss: The Wind Waker

9 days left! 9 Zelda games remain! Let's discuss: The Wind Waker

Posted: 21 Feb 2017 09:39 PM PST

At Spaceworld 2001 Nintendo showed a cel-shaded Zelda title very different from the realistically-styled demo they had showed one year before, causing the disaproval and negative backlash of the fans. Later in 2002, we receive a magical game with a gameplay focused controlling wind with a magical baton and sailing a small boat around a massive, island-filled ocean. We learned two things at the time: the meaning of adventure, and how to trust Nintendo.

In this thread we discuss all the previous Zelda games, one per day until we finally get to explore the world of Breath of the Wild.

5 simple questions about each game!

  • 1. Your favorite aspect of the game? (Replay value, music, gameplay, characters, the world)

  • 2. Favorite Dungeon.

  • 3. That one song in the game everyone should listen to.

  • 4. The quote, moment or cutscene that stuck in your head.

  • 5. Why should anyone play this game?

Let's go on a journey through the oceans. Let's discuss The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2002)

Previous discussions: Four Swords / Oracle of Ages / Oracle of Seasons / Ocarina of Time / Link's Awakening / A Link to the Past / The Adventure of Link / The Legend of Zelda

Here is the proposed spoiler policy, please give us your feedback.

THIS TOPIC WILL DISCUSS MILD SPOILERS LIKE MAJOR PLACES OR CHARACTERS IN THE GAME

Hello /r/Zelda! Below is what the mods have been discussing on what is and isn't a spoiler once the game is released. We want your feedback. Please take the survey at the end of this post.

Until April 2 /r/Zelda will be spoiler free for BoTW so users have adequate time to finish the game.

All posts discussing the game must begin with [SPOILERS].

The Rule

The spirit of the rule regarding spoilers:

Titles must be vague enough so that users are not spoiled.

You have a very real possibility of being spoiled by visiting /r/Zelda.

Abstinence is the only sure way to not be spoiled. The game is dynamic and fluid and you may encounter something before another user or vice-versa. The below is a guideline we will try to enforce, but cannot account for everything. Browse /r/Zelda at your own risk.

We need slight spoilers to function as a subreddit

If everything is a spoiler nothing can be discussed. Below is what will be allowed to be used in titles so we have some semblance of discussion and framing.

Temples/Dungeons are used for designating where you currently are in the game.

Though titles must be vague we understand users need to know where you are in the game. Because of this, we are using dungeon names as designations as part of the title to help others know where you are in the game. We understand the game can be played in almost any order but there is still a natural progression. We will make an outline of the order of temples as soon as we know them all. Dungeon names are CURRENTLY SPOILERS UNTIL THE RELEASE OF THE GAME ON MARCH 3.

Example:

[Spoilers - Water Temple] Title here

This post would include a discussion that includes the Water Temple.

[Spoilers - Water Temple in progress] Title here

This post would include a discussion that includes the Water Temple but not its completion.

Game completion

If you have beaten the game you may use the "Everything" text to inform users that all aspects of the game will be discussed.

Example:

[Spoilers - everything]

Allowed character names/items in titles

Below is a list of names allowed in titles. This list will expand once we know more common character names.

Link, Zelda, Ganon and Beedle

Below is a list of items allowed in titles.

Master Sword

Weapons you get inside dungeons are not allowed in titles. All weapons are currently spoilers until March 3!

Comments

Based on the title please use spoiler tags in the comments to discuss areas of the game that should not be spoiled based on the title. Try to avoid the discussion of future spoilers all together if possible.

You can use the following [X Kills Y](/spoiler), ex: X Kills Y

Take the survey

Please take this survey so we can see if this is the right approach: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYGF3fTVD4qChcCfeXsr9hEJqygFLDATJTdkrJAriJHuepDQ/viewform

Breath of the Open World (OC, comic, no spoilers!)

Posted: 22 Feb 2017 08:05 AM PST

In late 1998 I bought the Ocarina of Time. I got stuck in the water temple and basically gave up. I picked up where I left off recently. 18 years later and I just entered the spirit temple.

I just sold my 68 year old father on A Link Between Worlds

Posted: 22 Feb 2017 05:27 AM PST

Nothing super heavy here, but after convincing my dad to pick up an N3DS in December, he spent a ton of time playing Steel Diver: Sub Wars and the original Super Mario Bros over the last couple of months.

My dad took me to a Caldoors when the NES finally came into stock and I remember running a mad dash through the aisles back to the end cap and picking it up. I still have this poster from when we got it.

I played a ton of the NES back in the day, but he couldn't keep up with it due to the demands of a career, being a dad, etc. He's always been interested in Zelda, and yesterday he texted me to ask if he should get A Link Between Worlds.

He's downloading it now. I'm so happy for him finally getting his first true Zelda experience. Anyway, I just wanted to share and remember how fantastic this game is... It's making me want to play it again!

tl;dr: 68 year old dad is finally playing his first Zelda game, and I wanted to share with some folks who I thought would appreciate it.

[Spoilers] Just to clarify a few things, I hope

Posted: 22 Feb 2017 03:56 AM PST

With the recent items being leaked there is a lot of new speculation about the timeline, I'd like to point out that any items or leaks do not necessarily affect the timeline, it is highly likely that these are thrown in as Easter eggs for us to find and will not necessarily affect the game play only the aesthetic.

All this talk of "spoilers abound"... Friggin' where?

Posted: 22 Feb 2017 08:46 AM PST

So I'm of the select few that would actually love to see each and every single spoiler that exists right now.

People say, keep your eyes off the subreddits and the 4chan thread and loads of other places... That I have yet to find a trace of?

There's been like a single post I've seen, and it's just datamined icons of some weapons and armor from the game. That one post got X-posted like three times. Aside from that I haven't seen nearly as many spoilers as most of the internet would have you believe.

That is, unless, as I'm just assuming here, I'm a complete idiot and have scrolled right past something super obvious some place and not noticed it.

I have no idea how to navigate 4chan's archaic structure. I haven't seen any other "major" spoiler threads on /r/BreathoftheWild OR /r/Breath_of_the_Wild... Or NintendoSwitch, Nintendo, WiiU, or here for that matter.

In any case, is there anyone else like me out there who could actually hook a fella up with some links?

Like am I just missing something obvious, or do they really not exist as proliferately as the rest of the internet would have you think?

Thanks, y'all.

This is not a drill. Lot's of stuff is starting to get spoiled as the Wii U version is starting to get decrypted. If you don't want to be spoiled BAIL NOW.

Posted: 21 Feb 2017 05:55 PM PST

Pictures are already starting to leak and people on 4chan and other sites are on the verge of uncovering some major spoilers (They already kind of have).

Seriously GTFO of all video game subs if your really want to stay clean of spoilers.

...all the pigs on the islands were secretly Ganondorf's informants. They could have been Moblins under some sort of spell that are reverted to their true forms at a key moment in the plot where Ganondorf decides to hold humanity hostage.

Is Nintendo switch worth it just for this game?

Posted: 22 Feb 2017 07:06 AM PST

I have a preorder, but I am back on forth on whether to keep it or not. I will only play switch for mario, mario kart, and zelda as I play PC for all else. Let me know what you guys think?
