| An analysis of Skyrim heavy armour sets from a practicality standpoint Posted: 23 Feb 2017 04:55 AM PST (sorry this won't include Dragonborn sets because I'm lazy and overall they're pretty bad, I will also be mentioning only the male sets since a woman would historically never have worn/been able to wear any of this and the lady sets in this game tear off all of the metal and stick their boobs out of the front of the set) Iron Armour: From the neck down it's pretty good, effective protection on the backs of the hands and the feet are impenetrable, however, very poor arm protection unless it is the banded armour and that helmet is just awful - any opponent with a lick of sense would use the horns on that helmet to knock your helmet off your head and you would be dead. Imperial Armour: A favourite of mine out of pure brilliance: "They don't make finer steel anywhere else. If this doesn't keep you from dying, nothing will." The helmet is magical compared to the "horned" Steel and Iron helmets with very good entire head and cheek protection. Your shoulders are completely impenetrable and your chest is very well protected with a combination of what appears to be plate and mail. Hands and feet are, like the shoulders, thick plates of steel, you're not getting through that with a sword. Steel Armour: Now this is very good also, even the armour without the pauldrons has furs for some level of protection, both the Nordic and the Imperial variations of the boots and bracers/gauntlets are quite good with the Imperial steel beating out the Nordic steel due to pure thickness alone. However.... Once again, that fucking horned helmet makes a beastly return and it is even worse. Coolness factor: 10 times higher, Usefulness factor: 10 times lower. They look like handlebars that were made purely for your enemy to grab onto or to chop off but the helmet without them is quite good indeed. Decent nose protection and very good neck protection with what appears to be mail draping down at the neck. Steel Plate Armour: Other than the helmet this is just perfection. There are almost zero weak spots in this armour other than the joints and as you are likely to be using a shield in combination with this armour you are a walking tank. The engravings offer no tactical advantage other than pizzazz and the wings on the helmet are a little bit too fantasy to be useful but other than the helmet and the engravings this is a perfect set with layered steel plates on the stomach, shoulders, and legs, and thick plates of steel for the hands and feet. Bliss. Wolf Armour: Another very good set and it looks like this would provide you with excellent manoeuvrability while still granting you excellent protection. The helmet is like the Imperial helmet with seemingly nothing that could be improved. That's three very good sets already. Dwarven Armour: This one is a little silly. While yes it is another absolutely perfect set if you ignore the unfortunately oversized pauldrons and really fucking jacked boots, this is pure fantasy. I like the layered metal on the stomach and the banded metal covering the upper arms but this isn't something you would wear into battle over a much more functional steel set of armour - those boots would especially make walking a challenge. Ancient... Ugh... Ancient Nord Armour: Bethesda wtf? Why are there so MANY weak spots, especially on the female set which would require a single sword strike to the chest to kill the person wearing it? Shoulders: OK, Feet: OK, Hands: OK. Legs? Arms? "Forget that", said Bethesda, "MORE HORNS!", they cried, killing any "Ancient Nord" wearing this armour with a single blow. Blades Armour: Absolutely fan-fucking-tastic, the layered metal on the breastplate and the shoulders is just heaven to see and since this armour was meant to be used with a shield the gauntlets are permitted to be much thinner and lighter than usual - the legs are also brilliantly protected with draping mail and some very nice boots. The helmet is very similar to the Wolf helmet meaning: excellent. One of my favourite sets because it looks cool and like you could actually wear it and not die. Orcish Armour: Like Dwarven Armour, this is very fantasy, however, if we take a look at how this armour is constructed it is exactly like the guards say: "Ugly and strong", the armour is the antithesis to the Daedric Armour, sacrificing looking "cool" and "edgy" for pure practicality. The layered plates absolutely all over this armour would be impossible to pierce with a blade and the helmet looks like it would be so fucking good at protecting the entire head and especially that neck it reminds me of Samurai helmets in a way, the shoulder "spikes" also look like they would end up catching an enemy blade which could mean you are thrown off your feet or it could give you the control of their weapon. There appears to be absolutely no weak spots in this armour as well - it's just a shame that it's fantasy. Ebony Armour: By Ysmir, 'tis a wondrous sight. This is probably the best set in the entire game. It's a little bit fantasy but for pure protective potential? Just look at it, I mean holy shit. The shoulders? DENIED. Hands? DENIED. Legs? DOUBLE DENIED. The smaller wings on the helmet I'll let them get away with because of the rest of this armour being pure tank majesty. Where are the weak spots exactly? Fuck if I know, I'm off to smith another set of Ebony. Dragonplate Armour: Good and bad. From the neck down? This is perfect. Dragon bones? Allegedly unbreakable, not even a blunt object can hurt you when you wear this armour - the only chance an opponent would have is if they could poke you in your upper arms where the armour for some reason just stops. However, nothing is perfect. That fucking helmet returns, with the nasty ass horns, the rest of it is really quite good but those horns just make it completely useless because you're going to be dragged to the ground and then stabbed in the head. Daedric Armour: No. You want a longer answer? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (It's ugly and impractical and it looks like it was designed purely for edgy kids to wear) [link] [comments] | ||

| Am I the only one who thinks Daedrick looks like shit? Posted: 22 Feb 2017 10:13 PM PST I just think the armor is super ugly. Some of the weapons look cool, but that's it. Ebony looks way cooler, or dragon plate. Probably going to be down voted to hell, but everyone seems to deck out their PCs with it, and I don't get it. Any armor can get to the armor cap, so there is no reason to wear it, if you don't like the aesthetic. Anyways: Am I alone? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 23 Feb 2017 06:00 AM PST Recently I started my first ever evil playthrough. I'm a vampire lord, I kill innocent hunters for fun, I eat people, doing all the Daedric Lord quests, intimidating whenever I have the option in speech, pretty standard stuff, and I've been having a lot of fun, definitely something different from my usual Nord hero builds, But I feel like I might be missing certain things I could do as an evil character. So I ask, what are some of your favorite evil things to do in skyrim that would fit in my evil playthrough? [link] [comments] | ||
| Something I've noticed about the Stormcloak jarls Posted: 23 Feb 2017 02:14 AM PST I've noticed that all four original Stormcloak-supporting jarls seem to be completely incompetent. Laila, the jarl of Riften seems completely oblivious to all the shady shit that is going on right under her nose, Skald, the jarl of Dawnstar is delusional and thinks Ulfric is some kind of god and Korir, the jarl of Winterhold does nothing but whine about the college all the time. Even Ulfric himself: under his rule, Windhelm has become a complete shithole and it is the only city in Skyrim with an actual ghetto. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 23 Feb 2017 02:45 AM PST This has to be some sort of record. I fancied a jaunt East from Whiterun so grabbed Lydia to come along for the ride, first time I'd used her (in current game). We got over the bridge next to the Brewery and up the hill towards whichever guardian stone that's up there, at which point I noticed a Sabre Cat on the opposite bank of the the river. I jumped down a short cliff face to engage, knowing that she wouldn't follow me but expecting her to backtrack as an alternative route or get stuck. As I did the Sabre Cat departed, but on returning I couldn't find Lydia and after two days she hadn't reappeared. I teleported to her via the console and low and behold I'm in her multi-coloured hell/purgatory/alternative dimension next to her grave and with some Elf whose name I forget but all he would say was hello. It was a bit Twin Peaksy. Anyway she must have been with me for five minutes, I didn't give her any commands and we didn't engage any enemies or enter any locations, and she still managed to get herself killed. Who will carry my burdens now? [link] [comments] | ||
| If you feel like you've got too many septims . . . Posted: 23 Feb 2017 01:52 AM PST Why not give your followers a share of the loot? What if every time you finish a quest it means dividing the share into several parts? You get one-and-a-half shares, your current followers each get a share, and your housecarls and stewards each get a half-share. [link] [comments] | ||
