As mentioned in this announcement post, screenshot posts are banned from this subreddit for the next 2 weeks and can only be submitted as replies to this daily megathread. Thank you, trainers, for understanding and for helping to keep the subreddit navigable and useful to all members during these thrilling gen 2 times! [link] [comments] |
[Suggestion] Region locked Pokémon should be available to everyone during an Earth Day Event Posted: 21 Feb 2017 05:21 AM PST Like the title says, I'd love to be able to catch a Mr. Mime just for one day. I know there's little chance of me going to Europe, Japan AND Australia so I'd love a way to get all of the original 150. [link] [comments] |
As a Gen 1 player with the Gen 2 update... Posted: 21 Feb 2017 03:15 PM PST As someone who only knows the original 151 Pokémon (and maybe a few others), being able to go out and genuinely not know what Pokémon are out there to catch makes this game so much better for me. Every time I see a silhouette of something new or a new one pop up I can't wait to catch it and read the description. Makes it feel all the more realistic. [link] [comments] |
Please Niantic - either remove the 90 second timer from battles, or weaken Blissey. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 09:00 AM PST The only gyms in my area have MULTIPLE 3K Blissey in them, and I can't beat a single one of them before the time runs out - without dodging at all. (I'm level 33, my only Machamp has bullet punch.) This WILL drive players away from the game. Yes, if you're lucky enough to have people to play with, it's possible to beat it with multiple people attacking at once. But it's MUCH harder to coordinate multiple people to repeatedly take down Blisseys than it is to max revive them and stick them right back in the gym. Why is there even a timer to begin with?! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Feb 2017 12:45 PM PST Pidgeys. Everything is pidgeys. Pidgeys spawn rate is astronomical. Spin a pokestop? You might get a free pidgey. Pidgeys in the morning. Pidgeys in the evening. Pidgeys at supper time. Mildly annoying but inoffensive joke, that allows you to have big evolution parties the next day. (I just wanna hit level thirty already.) [link] [comments] |
[PSA]Quick moves are fast again Posted: 21 Feb 2017 12:59 PM PST I was just taking a gym and quick moves are much faster again, like they were before last update -> bite, water gun, fury cutter. It seems that even Niantic didn't like new changes that much. ENJOY! It seems that they changed damage to quick moves too. Water gun is now 5 damage, dragon breath 6, bite 6,... [link] [comments] |
The Pinap berry and the first catch bonus are the two best additions since the game's release. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 02:48 AM PST (Should read first THROW bonus...) It's apparent that the developers have come to the realization that the game is too grindy even to the most hardcore. After all, it's quite conceivable that someone who plays an hour every day may never attain the highest level nor catch/evolve the rarest pokemon. So even though it's taken a little time, Niantic should be congratulated for implementing the first throw bonus and the pinap berry, two mechanics whose benefits can't be overstated. The pinap berry brings casuals back into the fold by allowing them to boost the production of hard to grind (see: lengthy) evolution lines like dragonite and gyarados, and it also combats (though doesn't defeat completely) the menace known as scanners because it's not as imperative that one cheat to stay on even terms. The first throw bonus makes even the most trivial pokemon worthy of the effort. Take a random pidgey for example. Previously, assuming one threw a great ball and curve ball 25% of the team, one could expect to see a return of 3 candy and 115 experience on average per pokemon. Now, with the first catch bonus, let's say one gets a first throw bonus 50% of the time. One can expect to see a return of 140 experience per catch, which is a passive 22% boost in experience over time. If one were to try to exploit this new bonus by now catching even more small fry pokemon than they might otherwise, then you begin to realize an even greater benefit. As a level 33 player myself, I've seen a very nice boost to the rate of my experience gain, even when I discount all the 'first time catch' bonuses I've received. While I don't like that all the changes were made sort of whimsically and all at once without any warning, It's certainly better late than never. I would just say that hope that Niantic opens up the communication a little bit and gives us some insight as far as where they want to take the game and what they do/don't like about the current metagame. EDIT May I just add one small little bit to the above post since it's been brought up several times- I never meant to suggest that the berry is absolutely perfect or that it suddenly solves all of the game's problems. It is absolutely true that if you are unlucky as a player (or if you live in an exceptionally rural area) that you can't use the berries on pokemon which you don't ever encounter. This is true. However that does not mean that they can't be used on the 200+ other pokemon which exist and who might benefit from have berries thrown at them. Perhaps they will have evolutionary lines introduced at some point that you can grind towards, perhaps you simply want to throw them all at pidgeys for the sake of experience... the Pinap berry has so many different uses that everyone can find a great use for them. On the other hand the buddy pokemon is sort of one dimensional and a really slow mechanic in my opinion, so I am not sure that the two (berries vs buddy system) can be compared the way I have seen several people try to compare them. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 12:59 PM PST I audibly screamed when I saw the Lapras on my screen. It's taken forever, but I'm so close to finishing my gen 1 US dex! I just wanted to share my joy (: [link] [comments] |
[Meta] Stop making excuses for regionals every day Posted: 21 Feb 2017 03:16 PM PST "ITS EARTH DAY I WANT REGIONALS" "ZOO? GIVE ME REGIONALS" "WHILE YOURE AT IT, AIRPORTS SHOULD ALSO GIVE ME REGIONALS" "VALENTINES DAY, WE SHOULD GET REGIONALS CAUSE EVERYONE LOVES" "NATIONAL WAFFLE DAY WE SHOULD GET REGIONALS BECAUSE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD EAT WAFFLES" "MLK LOVED EVERYONE FROM EVERY RACE SO WE SHOULD GET REGIONALS ON MLK DAY" [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Feb 2017 09:47 AM PST I've been playing Pokemon Go on my bike since launch, and came to be known for it in my city. On Saturday I was riding and a motorcycle-like vehicle (Rokon Trailbreaker I believe) got my attention downtown and told me that I taught him how to play last summer. First off, his pokemon go hunting setup is amazing. Complete with a sidecar and a happy brown dog -> http://imgur.com/a/rrSrM Next, he told me that I met him at a common farming spot last summer. I told him about eggs, lucky eggs, IVs, movesets, evolutions, etc. I have to admit I don't really remember much of this. Still, it was awesome to meet him again and find that he was still playing. He was proud showing off some of the cool mons he'd gotten over the past ~6 months. Honestly, I wish I'd done this for more players (especially older ones like me). Maybe the dropoff in players around my city wouldn't have been so dramatic since launch. And really...that's one sweet bike/dog/pokehunting-machine. PS - I know I'm about to get hate from at least a few people because we spin stops and catch while riding. Guys...you don't live here...downtown Lowell has little traffic and cobblestone streets. You can creep at 10mph very easily and it's very safe. It's part of why it's such a great place to play compared to cities like Boston and NYC. [link] [comments] |
I just want to take a moment to say: Thank You for listening Niantic!!! Posted: 21 Feb 2017 02:28 PM PST It's not something you see all too often, but Niantic's response time to our feedback regarding the Fast Move changes was simply amazing. All Fast Moves are now back to the way they were before, I just tested it on a few gyms and I was able to simply stand there and tap without even needing to evade to take down these high level gyms. When Niantic slowed down all the moves, I had to pay too much attention and keep dodging, which was annoying because my phone is so old and I cannot afford a new one yet. The worst thing was looking at how slow it was making me fall asleep. So again, thank you Niantic for not ruining everything we worked so hard on to power up. Now I don't feel like I have to toss out everything I've worked for this half-year-long. [link] [comments] |
I farmed a whole Dragonite in half a day. Pinap Awesomeness confirmed. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 04:44 AM PST Dratini: http://imgur.com/a/pDwG4 I organise hunts in the local area which isn't overwhelmingly great except for it's large river frontage which means a lot of water spawns which in turns means decent amount of Dratini. Normal rates vary from 1 per hour to 2 per hour on extremely RNG happy days. I've known for a while it would be possible to farm a whole Dragonite if you were crazy enough to go all day on a good day but this day we got 6 in the first hour. We kept trying to leave this one location and every time we got 5 minutes back to base someone would yell out a new spawn. Craziness. Anyways, with Pinap berries and such a crazy headstart I thought it would be the day it would finally be possible. A few of us were on bikes and we split up and scoured separate banks of the river for several hours. Unfortunately the returns weren't great on that as we'd used a lot of our luck in the first hour and I had to take my daughter home for dinner and bed time. I had to duck out for nappies and someone reported a spawn that I drove to and walked along a break wall to get. After finally putting her to bed I set out again and caught two on the way to meet my fellow hunters about 50m apart from each other. Things slowed down and I got a couple more over the next couple of hours and people started heading home like normal humans. However I was on a mission and I was close to breaking my record. 2 months ago it was 11 when I found two double Dratinis. A few weeks ago it was 15 when I stayed out for a similar amount of time and greeted the early morning 5am hunters who later informed me 4 more spawned in the hour after I went home. Knowing I had a good start and knowing I could hit a good patch at any time kept me going. At about 3am I hit a bad patch and was getting a bit delirious and ended up riding for 2 hours all around town with NOTHING coming up but I simply couldn't give up because I was literally one away from finishing. Finally I rode to a place we'd struck out twice that night and there were two but I missed one because it despawned, which is fine. I had finally done it and know anytime I want to get a crazy amount of dust (90k) and a Dragonite at the expense of sleep and my family it's there to be done. Yay Pinap, please don't nerf! It's the only way i'll get a Machamp (which was the last farmable mon in my dex during Halloween) with good moves! (My post was disappeared from TSR, I think I didn't flair it correctly but I feel weird reposting there just in case.) edit - this was a relatively small town near Byron Bay Australia, I can walk for a couple of minutes and pat a cow. I'm not in a city using maps or something. [link] [comments] |
Blissey isn't the problem, the shoddy STAMINA formula is. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 09:30 AM PST This has been a recurring theme from the very beginning of the game. The Stamina formula completely ignores aspects of Pokemon, which has resulted in completely inflating the dueling power of pokemon with high HP. In the Pokemon games, there is a base 1 HP per level for every pokemon which is equivalent to 50 base HP, that isn't recorded in the statistics. Additionally, there is another +10 modifier. The proper formula currently is: STAMINA = 2*(HP) but should be STAMINA = 65 + HP Blissey, having the highest HP at 255, is the one most severely impacted by this change, but before her, Snorlax, Vaporeon, and Lapras were big offenders. This hasn't changed. What this change would do is treat Pokemon with mediocre HP(say Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon) is nothing, they would have roughly the same as they currently have. The biggest Stamina abusers would get nerfed severely. Blissey goes from 510 to 320, a loss of about 37% of her HP. Even Vaporeon would lose about 25% of her HP. This is the change that needs to happen in order to balance Pokemon. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Feb 2017 07:51 AM PST I have a love-hate relationship with the Nearby feature, mostly hate TBH; I love it when it shows me Pokemon I would go out of my way to get, yet I hate it when it shows me common trash.
Solution? Give us two separate tabs, one for Nearby and one for Sightings. Otherwise just give us the option to toggle Nearby on and off. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Feb 2017 08:29 AM PST We were both regretful that we've been evolving and transferring Poliwags, Slowpokes, and Zubats all year, only to find out that we could have been saving them for Politoeds, Slowkings, and Crobats. Never Again! If it's on the list, hold on to those candies for future generations! [link] [comments] |
[Story] My wife and I were heading to our 10th gym... Posted: 21 Feb 2017 11:43 AM PST We started with two gyms when we left the apartment last night, and over the course of an hour, we had gotten up to nine each. Driving around from neighborhood to neighborhood, classic rock on the radio, hitting all the gyms we could park at, we were running low on supplies. As we pulled into the parking lot of the Starbucks near our apartment, all we needed to do was train up the gym two levels and we'd be 100 coins richer. A familiar rhythm guitar started coming through the speakers and a heavenly voice sang out... "...Rising up, back on the streets. Did my time, took my chances." At once, we both knew we would succeed in getting our first 10 gym collection. A few agonizing minutes later, we had completed our mission and celebrated with grocery shopping. ....then we woke up this morning to being in 4 gyms. Back to the grind! [link] [comments] |
[Discussion] In regard to shinies Posted: 21 Feb 2017 02:01 PM PST It just donned on me today that with the popularity of third party tracking websites and their ability to show hidden information such as IVs and movesets, Niantic is in a dangerous spot. If Niantic rolls out shinies with the criteria to determine if a pokémon is shiny being held server-side, then it can likely be read by trackers and players (namely spoofers) who will be able to drive/teleport straight to those glittering prizes and saturate the game. Niantic absolutely MUST impliment shiny[y/n] in a way that calculates it uniquely for each client in a similar manner to calculating CP (level really). How do you think Niantic should go about implimenting this feature which is likely to retain hard/mediumcore players far longer than the current gym system will? [link] [comments] |
Current Stardust upgrade costs are absolutely insane. Posted: 21 Feb 2017 04:26 PM PST The amount of Stardust it takes to upgrade a Pokemon is ridiculous. To upgrade just one of my Eeveelutions is almost a quarter million stardust. A quarter million. To upgrade just one Pokemon. And if I'm really lucky, Niantic won't change the base stats / attack power / animation time / movesets by the time I catch the Two thousand five hundred Pokemon needed to upgrade my ONE Eevee. There are so many Pokemon to catch and power up, and unless you're studying Pokemon stats from day 1, Stardust is easily wasted. It really shouldn't be so critically dire to figure out which Pokemon to upgrade. Something needs to change here. [link] [comments] |
[Discussion] Niantic, please eradicate same team gym sniping :( Posted: 21 Feb 2017 07:58 PM PST First off, I want to thank Niantic for the wonderful job it did with the Generation 2 release and Valentine's Day event. Nothing can take those successes away from you! I'm absolutely loving the game right now! However, and I'm sure many players can attest to this, there has been one infuriating problem that has plagued the game since its inception. I'm talking about, of course, gym sniping. I'm tired of spending 20 minutes and 10s of potions to prestige a gym from 40k to 50k and find that someone on my same team (ironic) has taken the last spot without helping to prestige it. You fixed that issue with opposing team gym sniping after a gym has been completely defeated, and that has been much appreciated. Now, I implore you to simply add what I'm guessing should be very similar code to stop same team gym sniping. With the addition of the Blissey meta, prestiging gyms has become an absolute nightmare when multiple 3k+ Blisseys are defending. After spending half an hour, no one should have to endure the pain of getting gym sniped. I can't count the number of times I've been gym sniped. In my area where gyms are completely dominated by one team, not having rightful access to a gym that can be held for a week is very punishing. Gym sniping is not only annoying and detrimental to the game, but also ethically questionable. Please stop this practice from continuing. I can see that you guys obviously implement fan/player suggestions, and I hope that you can take this one seriously as well. Thank you so much! Yours truly, a very exasperated long-term Pokemon Go player TLDR - Please stop allowing same team gym sniping. It ruins the gym aspect of your otherwise lovely game. [link] [comments] |
[Idea] Only 1 of each Pokemon in a gym Posted: 21 Feb 2017 09:52 PM PST We all know the gym system is screwy. Basically encounter Blissey's, Nite's, Gyarados, Snorlax and Vape's and not much else. I think a great way to even this out is to have a policy of only 1 of each pokemon per gym. So the ideal gym will look like: Dragonite 3500 CP Snorlax 3100 Arcanine 2950 Lapras 2900 Exeggutor 2850 Vaporeon 2800 Gyarados 2750 Flareon 2600 Muk 2600 Etc. you get the point. It would be more fun to take on this gym, than 10 Dragonites. [link] [comments] |
[Suggestion] We need a learned attack and TM system Posted: 21 Feb 2017 05:55 AM PST It takes a really long time to evolve some pokemon. Other pokemon take a brief eternity (I have been walking a magikarp basically since the buddy system came out) So when you finally evolve the thing and find it has twister its especially disappointing. I think we need some kind of method for changing attacks. This isn't a problem in the regular games because pokemon learn attacks as they level up, and there is also a TM system. PoGo needs something similar, and it would be pretty easy to implement. How about as you level up a pokemon, at specific levels you can choose to learn a new attack instead of the old one. That would also make lower level pokemon more useful because they would have more chances to learn an attacks. And Implement TMs. Make them rare items like the evolution items. They could teach specific attacks like in the games, or maybe let you select from a list of attacks. Heck, I'd even be happy if they let you roll the dice again and get a random attack. I'm just so tired of every Arcanine having bite and bulldoze, and every Alakazam having shadow ball :/ Its even harder to get a specific attack with gen 2 since they added more attacks for some pokemon. Niantic Responded to My Request! Thank You! Posted: 21 Feb 2017 08:13 AM PST During the lag we experienced on launch day of Gen 2, I was one of the poor saps who accidentally bought too many things from the store due to the server lag. I submitted a ticket right away and they sent an automated response that they were flooded with requests. Last night, I received an email confirming that they refunded me for the seven extra pokemon storage upgrades I bought. Glad they are starting to do things right! [link] [comments] |
[Complaint] Has anyone noticed a sharp increase in "Strong" Pokemon from eggs? Posted: 21 Feb 2017 04:58 PM PST After this last batch, I've decided I'm never buying another Incubator. Something changed recently, as I have never had so many basically worthless Pokemon from eggs. I'm level 33, about halfway to level 34, so I am used to hatching mons that almost always 80% or better. Even when I used an Incubator from a level reward, I would still get good IV's. Maybe 1 mon out of 10 would not be worth keeping. However, this last batch had multiple mediocre IV's, some as low as 68%. Even when I catch "Strong" mons, the only ones I'll even consider keeping are the ones with two stats in the 13-14 range which can be 80%. Has this happened to anyone else? I want to be sure that I'm not crazy or just getting really sh*tty RNJesus! :-) [link] [comments] |
[Idea] An idea for Gen 3 release: Overworld Abilities for Buddy Pokemon Posted: 21 Feb 2017 05:32 PM PST I don't know if this has been discussed before, but with the release of gen 2, I've been thinking about the future generation releases and what could be implemented to make the game more interesting. My immediate thought went to gen 3 since it is the next generation to be released and it was the first generation that pokemon abilities became a part of the main series. In relation to PoGo, I was thinking that the abilities that had over-world effects in RSE and beyond could have a similar functionality. List of Examples: Pickup - Buddy Pokemon has a chance of picking up an item every 1/3/5 km you walk with it. The more distance you accumulate with your buddy, the higher chance it has at picking up a rarer/more useful item (i.e. ultra balls over poke balls). To make up for the discrepancies between the 1/3/5 km pokemon, the 5 km pokemon would be able to find rare items more easily than the 1 km pokemon. Arena Trap - Prevents Pokemon from running away during capture. Cute Charm - Increases encountering a Pokemon of the opposite gender of your Buddy Pokemon. Flame Body/Magma Armor - Halves the distance required to hatch eggs. Illuminate/Swarm - Increases Pokemon spawn rate. Intimidate/Pressure - Decreases encounter rate of low CP Pokemon/Increases encounter rate of high CP Pokemon. Sticky Hold/Suction Cups - Increases capture rate of Pokemon. This is just a preliminary list and doesn't include all over-world abilities, and obviously some could be improved upon. Most of them correlate to the ones in the main series games, but some abilities were altered to fit the playing mechanics of PoGo. Let me know what you guys think! [link] [comments] |
Is Niantic ever going to take pokestops/gyms requests again? Posted: 21 Feb 2017 10:18 AM PST As the title say I live in a rural area and there are no pokestops and gyms nearby, I play with few friends daily and we are missing out on some important content of the game. Nearest pokestop/pokegym is about 150km away. I just want to know if niantic has said anything about taking requests. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
