Posted: 14 Feb 2017 11:16 AM PST This week's topic is... "Custom Maps" and comes to you courtesy of a suggestion by u/576875 Found a cool new map? Looking for a certain map to play? Or are you a map maker wanting some play testers? Any cool tips/tools (for map making) you would like to share? Well this week's thread is where to do it. Some useful related links: Testing: Finished: Finding playtesters: What is this?Every week(-ish) a new thread will be posted and stickied by /u/AutoModerator. Topics will usually cover things that, if posted on their own, would receive little attention and clutter up /new. By bringing these threads together, we hope everybody has a better experience. We've come up with a few topics on our own, but we'd also like feedback from you. Are there any other topics you'd like to see added to the rotation? [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 03:17 PM PST There's this new Terracotta block coming in the new 1.12 update. I had an idea for these. What if they added more banner designs? I mean, following the logic that you can put bricks on banners, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to put these things on them. They'd make for some really cool designs, I feel like. Posted: 14 Feb 2017 04:14 PM PST You can see the bug here in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af9Cgck1zGA The Bugtracker: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-1692 What happens is if you have alot of redstone Lamps flickering on and off on a chunkborder, the check for if the update is within the current chunk takes up >50% of the frame time resulting in huge framedrops and unplayable client stuttering. This bug is reported for years but never got attention by mojang. I think it is time to change that so we can properly work with redstone lamps. How can you help? Leave a vote on the Bugtracker for this bug. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 08:12 AM PST 1.12 is a building update as it so seems, so something to pimp the indoors of whatever we're going to be building is always appreciated. New textures would probably have to be added for the respective lilac and sunflower, but that should be relatively easy. [link] [comments]

PSA: Don't start worlds with a special "biome size" setting if you want ground structures Posted: 14 Feb 2017 07:03 AM PST [edit: sorry, it seems that the /locate command requires that you capitalize things, things DO work with biome size 2 though are very rare, updates incoming] [edit2: here are the results of running /locate on Village, Stronghold, Mineshaft, Monument, Mansion, and confirmed by teleporting to get a visual confirmation (except as otherwise noted with *-- which means I teleported there but couldn't find anything underground). So it seems the bug has since been accidentally fixed, but not for all structures... the smaller the biome size you use, you would normally expect to see less structures because they have less room to spawn, but this appears to affect some structures more than others, and the rate of some structures is very limited to the point they might not even exist. I recall before 1.9, this bug existed and villages would only spawn a well and that was it.] Methodology: I engaged flight mode and did /tp 0 100 0 before every /locate, then did /locate Village or similar. For underground structures, I tunneled straight down and if I found nothing, I would fill the ~60-block deep hole with TNT and light it to get a 'better picture'. ;-) Just to confirm the thing actually existed. Didn't do this all the time though. It seems that the takeaway is as follows: Ocean Monuments and Mansions are very large and don't appear frequently (or at all? for Mansions) in biome sizes 1 and 2. You can use /locate to find the location of Ocean Monuments with these biome sizes, but you are unlikely to find a Mansion unless you maybe search multiple 10000x10000 blocks (maybe with the nether) AND use /locate. The game may crash. It would be nice to see structures sprawl out into other biomes; I don't see this being a problem given how structures are generated, but I'm not a minecraft dev and don't know the internals of their code. (I can certainly imagine that one could make a structure block for an ocean monument that contained lots of water, so wherever it spawned, it would be guaranteed to be surrounded by lots of water.) Meanwhile, if you are setting up a server for friends, especially those who haven't played before, you should maybe check nearby structures to see if they've spawned. I'm not sure if AMIDST still works, but you can maybe use that to get an idea of how things are distributed (but AMIDST has lied to me before), or just teleport to random locations and repeatedly use /locate. The fact that you can use Eyes of Ender to locate strongholds doesn't make the lack of nearby Strongholds to be a total dealbreaker (though some may quite reasonably disagree). I personally find the normal biome sizes too large, especially for small groups of players, so I'm sad that for the past two years, ground structures have either not spawned with small biome sizes, or don't spawn very frequently (as is the case now). And it would be fun to see a village spawn overlap into another biome and get snow or flooding etc. Overall though I just feel quite sad that the world is so empty. [end edit 2] [edit 3] (I have yet to find a Mineshaft with /locate Mineshaft, even on a regular world. Maybe the command is bugged, since I assume people have found mineshafts in their world in chunks generated since 1.11? Or maybe the Mineshaft coordinate is very off-center. An x-ray texture pack may help give more information about whether they really do appear in biome sizes 1 and 2 and 3.) [end edit 3] [original post follows] The devs have marked this bug "working as intended". So don't start playing in a world with your friends with a non-default biome size. It's a trap, and a week or two later when you realize there are no villages, monuments, mansions, mineshafts, etc., you will have to restart your world. Ridiculous for them to mark it "works as intended" when it's clearly a bug. Working as intended would require a warning that the world will not have ground structures. Seems to not work with biome sizes of 1 and 2 (haven't tested 3). This appears to be a bug that you won't discover for a week and destroys a week of progress for everyone, and new users won't even know they're being subject to it; it's really awful from a usability and design perspective. As a developer, this may be one of the most insidious issues I've ever seen, in terms of frustration. https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-60590 https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-103209 (though not good etiquette to open a duplicate bug rather than request a bug is reopened via a comment, this was someone politely pointing out this was ridiculous) (Links for reference; obviously don't spam the bugtracker.) I've had the worst day ever... Posted: 14 Feb 2017 12:55 PM PST TLDR: over a year on survival and today I've made countless noob mistakes. My buddy's and I just finished our Guardian spawner, it burned through a lot of diamond pickaxes. So today I set off with the remaining 3 diamond pickaxes including my baby, efficiency 4, unbreaking 3. I seen a few nice ravines behind the spawner so head for there, not half an hour in I have over a stack of diamonds, 4 Lapis, countless red stone and gold, even a couple of emeralds. I remember thinking it's strange I haven't seen a mob yet but hey ho! I spot another diamond vein over lava so build a cobblestone bridge to it and ping! 360 no scoped by a skeleton! In I go, burn to death and lose it all. I had no idea where I was so no chance of getting it back. I need a break so go hunting for ice to build my railway to the spawner, spend 2 hours building the railway to it with a nice underwater ice motif, but it's dark...I test how far away I can put sea lanterns before it melts ice, don't wait long enough and think I've got it...go and place them all and turn round, my bridge has melted all the rails gone. I'm angry, so build up my XP to 30, get a map and a bucket of water and borrow diamonds to enchant a pickaxe, ready to set off I jump down into my mine, slime patch at the bottom...and bang my head off the top of the door at the bottom and die. I'm taking a breather. [link] [comments] |
