Halo Wars 2 FAQ and Spoiler Policy Posted: 15 Feb 2017 09:04 AM PST Hello all,
On February 21st (or early access on the 17th for those of you with the digital Ultimate Edition), we will finally see the sequel to 2009's Halo Wars. Halo Wars 2.
Below, you'll find the answers to many of the questions you may have about the upcoming release.
As a general reminder of our spoiler policy: spoilers will not be tolerated here. Any spoilers posted outside of the official spoiler threads or not properly tagged will be removed with great prejudice and foaming at the mouths of us nerds. If you need a reminder of how to properly tag spoilers, see our sidebar. Halo Wars 2 will be under spoiler embargo for three months after its release, per usual.
Now, for an overview of Halo Wars 2.
So what's the story?
At the end of the original Halo Wars, in 2531, the crew of the Spirit of Fire had achieved a major victory over the Covenant, destroying Shield World 0459 and the Forerunner Armada that the High Prophet of Regret had planned to use to wipe out humanity. However, this was at the cost of Sergeant John Forge as well as many of the Spirit of Fire's forces, as well as the ship's Shaw-Fujikawa Slipspace drive. With no way home, the Spirit of Fire was forced to begin the long voyage home at relativistic speed, ensuring they would not rendezvous with the UNSC for many long years. Captain James Gregory Cutter ordered the crew into cryo sleep as the ship made its long voyage home. Besides Captain Cutter, the crew also included the civilian xenoarchaeologist Ellen Anders, the ship's AI Serina, and Spartan-II Red Team, comprised of Jerome-092 Cable, Alice-130 Tresske, and Douglas-042 Rutland.
The year is now 2559. The Spirit of Fire has emerged above Forerunner Installation 00, better known as the Ark. Knowing that there is no way they could have arrived there at the speed they traveled, Captain Cutter and the crew begin to investigate the structure. They find that the UNSC has established a research outpost there, but learn from an AI named Isabel that the Ark was attacked by a military faction named the Banished. Old enemies of the Covenant, the faction of Brutes, Elites, Grunts, and Hunters are led by a brilliant and savagely strong Brute named Atriox. This formidable enemy will engage Captain Cutter and the Spirit of Fire for control over the Ark, in a battle that will no doubt have a profound impact on the state of the galaxy.
What do I have to have played or read to get the most out of the story?
The game that started it all. Obviously you need to play the first game to understand the second. Join Captain Cutter, Sergeant Forge, and Professor Anders as the Spirit of Fire is deployed to the human Colony of Harvest to investigate the machinations of the High Prophet of Regret and Arbiter Ripa 'Moramee. See this story set near the dawn of the Human-Covenant War and learn of the sacrifices made by the Spirit of Fire to save humanity.
A comic prequel to Halo Wars 1. Originally only included in the first game's Limited Edition, 343 Industries have recently made the comic a free, downloadable PDF. You can find it here.
Halo: Hunters in the Dark
Set in the years following the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC and the Arbiter's Swords of Sanghelios are forced to send a joint expeditionary force to the Ark. What dangers still lurk on the Installation? Read to see humanity and the Elites' return to the Ark since the conclusion of Halo 3.
Smart A.I. are created by scanning and replicating the neural pathways of a human brain. Because this destroys the neural tissue, a Smart AI is only created from the brain of a deceased human. This short story details the process the UNSC must go through to acquire an appropriate donor to create an AI that may have great influence on future events in the galaxy.
No one among humanity truly knows the legacy of the Spirit of Fire, even those closest to its crew. Read about Rion Forge as she scavenges the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War for any trace she can find of her father's ship.
"Captain. Something has happened." These words immediately teased us of a sequel to the original Halo Wars. Discover the meaning of Serina's words in this short comic.
The Silent Shadow are a renowned assassination group of Elites. Responsible for many great accomplishments in the Covenant, including the deaths of Spartan-III Headhunters Jonah and Roland, the group is now dedicated to taking out key Brute remnants after the Human-Covenant War. Their mission will take them on the path to their most formidable opponent yet: the leader of the Banished, Atriox.
What kind of editions does the game have?
Halo Wars 2 has a standard physical release for the Xbox One and digital releases for both the Xbox One and Windows 10 (the digital PC version can be purchased via the Windows Store). While a physical release was planned for the PC version of the game, this has now been cancelled for much of the world, and is now only available in Europe.
There is also the Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition, which is available as a physical release for the Xbox One and a digital release for the Xbox One and Windows 10. This edition includes the season pass for the game (detailed below) as well as a digital code for Halo Wars Definitive Edition. The digital version also allows you early access to Halo Wars 2, letting you play the game four days before release.
What's included in the season pass?
The season pass for Halo Wars 2 includes new content that will be rolled out over the six months after the game's release. This will include new Leaders, new units, new Blitz cards, and new campaign missions. Specifics on these haven't been revealed yet, though it has been revealed that Sergeant Forge will be one of the DLC Leaders.
What about mutliplayer?
Halo Wars 2 will include the following multiplayer modes at launch.
Test your skills against an array of AI enemies at a variety of difficulty levels.
In this game mode, you will vie with an opponent to control more bases than them by the time the timer runs out.
Fight opponents for control points on the map to reduce their ticket counts.
Build your bases and fight your enemy until only one side is left.
This new game mode is a fast-paced battle for control over designated points on the map. Instead of building units, you have a deck of Blitz Cards that you will draw units from, and an energy pool that determines what units you can play. You draw four cards at a time, and can play them from your hand as you gather the energy that periodically gets deployed on the map. You can utilize a pre-made deck for each Leader, or build and/or modify your own from cards earned from Blitz Packs.
Utilize the new Blitz mechanics as you fight wave after wave of AI enemies, either alone or with partners.
How can I get new Blitz Cards?
You earn Blitz cards from Blitz Packs. Each pack awards you five cards. You can acquire Blitz Packs with in-game currency, or with real money. In-game currency can be earned via playing multiplayer, or by completing the game's Daily and Weekly Challenges.
Who are the Leaders?
There are six Leaders available in the game at launch: three UNSC and three Banished. More Leaders will be added via DLC, and will be revealed later. Sergeant Forge has already been announced.
Captain James Gregory Cutter
The Captain of the Spirit of Fire, Cutter leads his forces in the campaign on the Ark against the Banished.
Professor Ellen Anders
A civilian xenoarchaeologist recruited to help the Spirit of Fire understand Forerunner technology.
Isabel
A UNSC logistical AI stationed on the Ark. Rescued by Spartan Red Team, Isabel is determined to avenge her fallen friends, slain by Atriox and the Banished.
Atriox
The brilliant, brutal leader of the Banished, a faction that has been fighting the Covenant since the Human-Covenant War.
Decimus
One of Atriox's lieutenants, Decimus is known for being bloodthirsty, and exceptionally strong, even for a Brute.
Shipmaster Let 'Volir
An Elite that found himself unable to ally with either the Arbiter's Swords of Sanghelios or Jul 'Mdama's New Covenant, 'Volir decided to ally himself with the Banished for the sake of his crew, despite his animosity towards the Brutes.
Conclusion
If you don't see your question answered here, feel free to ask it below. Hopefully we'll see you on the battlefield, Spartans.

Weird glitch in Halo 1 I found as a kid. Posted: 15 Feb 2017 09:58 PM PST It has been years but I remember playing with another person on the second level and I am sure we just murdered every friendly AI up until the last part of the map. In the end the covenant lined up and saluted us and did not do anything when we killed them? This was on Xbox. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there an explanation? I google it every now and then but never find an answer. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Feb 2017 08:41 PM PST I heard that each playable character in the campaign has different attributes to make them each unique. I don't have any friends and have only been able to play as Locke and Master Chief, and I don't notice anything particularly different between them (besides HUDs). So, what are the different attributes each character has? I've searched a bit online, but all I could find is the announcement that they will have different attributes, but nothing about what they are. EDIT: I'm being downvoted. I'm sorry for asking such a stupid question. :( [link] [comments]

Is Halo worth buying an Xbox One? Posted: 15 Feb 2017 05:46 AM PST Should I buy and Xbox just to play all the Halos? I've never played the stories and they seem like classic games. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. [link] [comments]
343 please, what's the status on mouse input lag in PC Posted: 15 Feb 2017 01:05 AM PST You're probably aware of this already, but the aiming with the mouse on Forge PC has horrible input lag. This is the biggest reason why the population is so poor on Halo 5: Forge. Is there any update coming to alleviate/fix this problem? It's also pretty common to hear people complaining about performance issues since the game was updated (back in October I think). I myself have had to turn down the resolution and have talked to others who have had to do the same. All in all, I know the game is free and its primarily intended for creating forge content...but its starting to feel like you guys are wasting an opportunity to build fan support on the PC. There are a good number of potential players who want to like this game but there's so many issues and they end up viewing you guys in a negative way when we're all supposed to be just Halo fans. I'd appreciate it if someone in the know would take a moment to address these concerns. [link] [comments]

Really hoping for a good Halo Wars 2 PC port Posted: 15 Feb 2017 11:52 PM PST Halo 5: Forge worked really well for the first Halo game on PC in a decade but it had issues that never got fixed like a locked 60fps and no adjustable Field of View. I was disappointed with Forza Horizon 3 running so poorly on my high end machine. Gears of War 4 was however a fantastic port which a surplus of graphics and game settings. [link] [comments]
