Posted: 06 Feb 2017 03:02 AM PST

Hey folks,

Welcome to Mages Guild Monday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread on the subreddit!

Mages Guild Monday is a thread aimed at sharing tips, tricks, knowledge and information about the game.

Know of a place that yields a particularly good reward? Got a tip about how to most efficiently accomplish quests? Have some good intel on good ways to serve your alliance in PvP? Let the community know!

In addition, if you're new to following the game, this thread is your chance to ask questions and get help from veteran players.

Please keep in mind the "no personal attacks" rule in our sidebar, disagree respectfully with others, and know that a repeated or seemingly obvious bit of knowledge may not be obvious to everyone.

We look forward to your contributions!

Is This Game Any Good?

Yes. But admittedly we're biased. If you check out reviews of ESO, make sure they are current. The game has come a long way since launch and you should base your decision on its current state. Here are a few unbiased recent reviews that weigh the game's strong and weak points.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

We're glad The Elder Scrolls Online's first expansion, Morrowind, has caught your attention and brought you to our little corner of the internet. The expansion to the game launches June 6, 2017 and we know you might have questions. Below are some links to some of the more common ones you might have.

Want to play ESO: Morrowind but start playing ESO today?

It's important to know that when you pre-order ESO: Morrowind, it comes with the base game too but you won't be able to start playing until ESO: Morrowind is released in June. Instead, you are better off grabbing a cheap copy of ESO: Tamriel Unlimited for around $20 and purchasing the ESO: Morrowind upgrade for only $40. You end up spending roughly the same amount of money and get to start your ESO adventure now! Note: Beware purchasing from non-approved retailers.

So sick of people bashing ESO for not being ES 6.

Posted: 05 Feb 2017 04:40 PM PST

Every single time I see a video trailer or an article about the game, the top comments are all the same. "We get this pile of shit instead of ES 6." "Quit wasting time with this pile of garbage and give us ES 6 already!" And more comments similar to the above.

I don't know if people are truly ignorant that ZOS and Bethesda are different or are just wanting to cause problems, or what but it is getting really old. I called out one commenter asking if he had tried the game and his response was "I will never play this pile of crap, it is a stain on the Elder Scrolls name and should never have been made." I'm just completely disgusted with the way such an amazing game is being treated. The sad thing is I know people who won't play because they read these comments and assume the game is crap because of all the negativity.

Elder Scrolls Online: Red Diamond

Can we have a time travel adventure DLC? One where we have to go back in time and kill the grandfather of the breton bastard that wrote that bloody song!

I must have sang the chorus in my head for nearly two hours this morning and it shows no sign of abatement, despite listening to other tunes to try and block the signal.

There is some powerful daedric magic going on...

Who else thinks the Morrowind expansion should introduce a new weapon skill line?

Posted: 05 Feb 2017 03:22 PM PST

Particularly Spears. They were available in Morrowind and not since, making them pretty iconic to that game. They could focus on heavy single target damage and bleeds, with maybe some utility like a stun.

I feel like there are too few options for weapon skills, and adding a new one adds a new dynamic to all classes unlike a new class altogether.

Ice Staff Taunting...

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 01:06 AM PST

ONLY happens if you've invested skill points in the passive for it. Seriously, the sky is not falling, ice staves are not completely ruined and impossible to use for DPS characters, and you won't be stealing aggro from your tank unless you want to. Stop commenting that shit on every single post about destro changes. It's not true.

Tales of Tamriel Episode 133: Return To Morrowind

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 04:00 AM PST

After returning to ESO (Again), I made a short video to summarize my thoughts. I hope this helps any potential players who are still on the fence.

My findings on crafting writ drop rates; "temper"=bervez juice/frost mirriam for provisioning, gold level mats for all others; "fragment"=psijic ambrisia fragment for provisioning, glass motif for all others

Are there any benefits to housing?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 03:31 AM PST

I couldn't possibly be less interested in the upcoming homestead update but I am curious whether there are any passives to owning something like a training dummy in my house. I might just fill up my starter with things that give me benefits if there are any such items.

What's the PvE endgame like, including upcoming features with the new expansion?

Posted: 06 Feb 2017 12:49 AM PST

So I've stopped playing World of Warcraft for a few months now and am looking to try out ESO again (tried it at launch and quit). As someone who has absolutely 0 interest in PvP, what can I expect from the game in regards to endgame from a purely PvE based perspective?
