It's not killsteal

Maybe it's about time we stopped the BSJ stuff.

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 06:57 AM PST

OK before this sub loses its collective baskets, hear me out. It may have gone too far.

Memes are funny, and by no account is this the only time a player has been lambasted by this subreddit; EternalEnvy has a very similar kind of reputation, and in general this subreddit has a habit of being very toxic to professional players and teams. Alliance, Na'Vi, and specific players like the aforementioned EternalEnvy, or Loda, or N0tail, all have received a large amount of flak.

Similarly, memes are a lot of fun. They can tie communities together (r/dota2's memes are exceedingly dank) and just generally create a positive attitude for everyone involved; they're not complicated, and they're often hilarious.

So why do I feel that the current wave of BSJ content is different?

Well in terms of pro-players that received a lot of flak:

Loda operated in a team that ran differently to others, which a heavy third core in Admiralbulldog that restricted his farm and impact. People gave him a bunch of shit, but people who understood, and could see he was a good player, still backed him up. He also won TI, which meant he could really just cry into his trophy.

N0tail got so much shit for being the one holding OG back when Miracle- was around. Now he's proven otherwise, but even back then one of the most prevalent memes in the community was also one of the most wholesome, and towards n0tail (you're a fuckin flower mate).

EternalEnvy has a similar backlash, but all I can say about that is no one really ever doubts his ability. They call him an idiot, and right now there's a clip on the front page of him dying from standing in Alch's Q. All the vitriol was pretty much countered with a great deal of love. I feel like the community overall likes him. EE memes are the pinnacle of how one should do this kinda stuff.

So why is BSJ different? Well all the jokes are that he's a bad player, essentially. There is no humor beyond him being bad. Sarcastic remarks highlighting how bad he is. Knocks at his reputation. A cautious evaluation of his play to see just how stupid his actions were. There's no love there. There's nothing witty or endearing about "BananaShitstainJamma".

And worst of all? He's not fighting back. There is no real apparent backlash from him. The community isn't getting a rise out of him. I don't what he did in the past the so royally pissed off so many people, and soured their opinions of him, but when you ruthlessly slander, insult, and prod a person who doesn't respond to you it's just bullying.

So why should you care aside from empathy? Well, for one it's making me really uncomfortable. It might just be me, but it's not pleasant to just watch people rail continuously against a person who didn't seem to ask for it, who isn't trying to defend himself.

But I know you don't care what I think either.

So if you hate BSJ and you hate me, then why should you stop? Well.

It makes our community look really bad.

I love this subreddit, and when prime content is just constant shitposting it's perfectly harmless regardless of how useless the mods arelol but it makes the community look pretty awful to potential newcomers, and to individuals looking into e-sports, if we viciously bully a player who just quietly takes it.

So in summary/TL;DR: We're pretty much bullying BSJ. It makes us look really bad, and it's not a nice thing to do.

Let's take a moment to talk about Windranger and her useless tree.

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 03:26 AM PST

One of my favourite heroes got shit on so hard and OSfrog doesn't care, do we really need a pro to complain about it first? (Ala 6 Treants)

Anyway, let me show you how horrible it is.

Lvl 10 : 15 damage OR 4 mana regen

Okay, this one is alright 4mr is pretty good and the dmg is alright, but the rest tilts me.

Lvl 15 : 150HP OR 13Int 200Hp or 16Int

150 hp, pretty good right? No, fuck you. There are heroes having this on level 10, heroes that are tanky, Timber, Tide get it all on ten, but not WR nono she needs to be 15 to get it. 13 int is also ass, a bit of mana and 13 damage whoowie thanks Valve. Sorry guys used the outdated 7.00 values, they buffed lvl 15 a bit since, but the +Int is still pretty bad. Thanks to u/ExternalPanda and u/Luxon31 for pointing that out!

Lvl 20: 12% spell amp or 12% resistance

Now THIS is proper tilt. 12% spell amp for your ONE nuke so it goes from 420 (xd so funny valve haHAA r/im14andthisisfunny) to 470, before reductions. Wow, really useful. Or, OR you can get the best shit in the entire world, 12% resistance! That is worse than a fucking cloak, a 550 gold item tops your Lvl20 talent. But lets get to the 25 one, that one must be good right?

Edit: Ok so alot of you mention maelstrom, here's some math: Maelstrom does 120 dmg. 120*0,12=14,4. So you have the POTENTIAL to deal 14 more damage with a cooldown of 0,2 seconds, assuming that it procs every time (25% chance). Really good guys I agree /s.

Lvl 25: -5sec Powershot cooldown or +100 attack range

This makes we wanna throw up to be honest, a 4 second nuke thats almost useless when you're 25 or being able to stand one dicksize farther away from your target.

The gingerhate is strong this patch, please stop this abuse Valve.

Amateur tournament applications being ignored by Valve

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 07:33 AM PST

TLDR: Valve randomly leaves amateur tournament ticket applications in limbo, never to be fully activated in game. Official communication channels with Valve are ignored, so to /r/dota2 I go!

I'm one of the lead admins for the Redditors' Dota 2 League (RD2L), and the owner of all our ingame tickets.

RD2L runs an Inhouse League during the signup phase of each regular season. We always get a separate ticket for each in order to accurately track individual performance in the IHL and team performance in the regular league.

I apply for both tickets simultaneously, but about 30% of the time one of the tickets just doesn't go through. Currently our Season 11 IHL ticket is stuck as "Accepted", and has been for 3 months. This is the state before "Live", with live tickets being usable in game. It means they've review the application, imagery, etc. and deemed it ready to go. The only remaining thing is to activate it in game as part of an update so we can actually use the ticket.

There is theoretically a system in place to communicate with Valve as part of the application, but I've never received a response or seen any actions taken based on my messages.

I submitted a thread to the dev forums, but no response there either.

Since /r/dota2 is the de facto developer forums: Valve please don't ignore amateur league tickets!

Valve, please consider a Spring Cleaning Update!

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 08:13 AM PST

I'll keep it short...

Performance issues and bugs have been rampant since 7.00 was released.

The game is very hard to play/watch when there are big teamfights.

I personally play on a low end laptop and the game runs like shite on Lowest settings.

Guys, please post a list of bugs and issues here (if this post blows up)

Rubick's unnecessary "30th June 2016" Nerf has not been reverted yet!

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 05:36 AM PST

TL;DR:

Valve nerfed Rubick (Rubick's Tempest Double cannot steal spells anymore) instead of properly fixing a bug (permanent black hole). Then they had to properly fix the bug anyways, since the nerf to Rubick did not get rid of the bug (they thought it would, but they forgot about Bu3nyy).

Valve forgot to revert said Rubick nerf. Valve essentially nerfed Rubick for no other reason than being lazy.

First up, I said unnecessary because the one & only reason the nerf got applied in the first place has been fixed by now.

Prior to the 30th June 2016 Rubick's Tempest Double was able to use the Spell Steal ability as well, thus Rubick's Clone was able to steal spells and use them, just like the real Rubick.

This had caused a few problems, if one refreshed the Tempest during a channeled spell, such as Black hole or Death Ward.

Certain spells used to persist on the map and could not be removed anymore, thus permanent black holes & death wards (non-channeled!).

Old buggy interaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op0o9a1jQf8 (spells stayed)

"Current" proper interaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IeT0qubCKk (recorded 22nd Sept. 2016)

Most recent interaction: https://youtu.be/_hnSvKbU-7s (recorded 8th Feb. 2017)

The control Groups for "Only Rubick Tempest" is also broken. It always selects both Heroes.

(I had to 'cheat' by using a custom game and give Rubick/AW the Black Hole spell, so that their Tempests will have that spell as well)

Valve "fixed™" this by making Rubick's Tempest Double unable to steal any spell at all, which essentially got rid of the bug, but nerfed Rubick (and technically buffed Arc Warden) in return.

The funny part is, Rubick did not require the Tempest Double in the first place, thus he was still able to leave permanent spells on the map, regardless of the Double.

This forced Valve to properly fix the bug for good. It should now be impossible to leave a channeled spell permanently on the map.

Now my complaint:

Valve did not un-nerf Rubick. Rubick's Tempest Double is still unable to steal any spell, despite it being able to do so for around 7 whole months (Dec 2015 - June 2016), without any complaints or saying that it was "a bug".

Valve should enable a Rubick Double to fully use Spell steal again. The only spell that a Rubick Double should be prohibited from stealing is the "Tempest Double" spell itself, to prevent infinite Doubles.

I know that this would technically nerf Arc Warden and re-buff Rubick, but this is just not right that Rubick got nerfed for a bug that Valve was initially too lazy to properly fix, until they got forced to do so.

Make it Mandatory for new accounts to do tutorial (I have Reasons)

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 08:26 AM PST

Reason #1 : So that they learn the basics

Reason #2 : Discourage existing players from making multiple accounts.

Now why reason 2 is valid:

A) Most of the players who quit after dying in the start simply abandon. When i check them up, they are level 1. So new accounts. What they do is that they simply make a new account and play. If they get LP, they make a new account again. If they quit and create a new account, they have to grind through the tutorials which will be more punishing than actually completing the game they left.

B) It falsely inflates the number of registered users.

I've lost 2181 MMR in a little more than three years. Ask me anything.

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 09:14 AM PST

So, there's that. I've managed to lose more than 2K MMR in three years. I don't really know how, but it happened. Picture here.

Don't hold back, ask me anything.

Edit: To the people who are downvoting this thread. Not everyone can climb. If you are climbing, someone has to lose the points in return. It's a two sided coin.

Your life at 4.5k: Vitamin D deficiency symptoms.

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 01:41 AM PST

4.5k is hell, pain, sorrow and everything in between. It will get into your bones. Once it takes hold of you, you will never see sunlight again.

You wake up to play some dotes, only to find yourself in a dual mid situation.

It's ok, you'll win next game.

Fight for 50 minutes and woops your carry bought a daedalus and he's dead without buyback.

It's ok, you'll win next game.

You are godlike on invoker 20 minutes in, oh wait the enemy slark is 15-0.

It's ok, you'll win next game.

Time to support. Oh Dazzle my friend, let us win this together. Bad luck, your mid qop solo died 3 times against SF.

It's ok, you'll win next game.

Pick your offlane slardar, don't let a bunch of losses kill our dream. Hehe, your rubick just abandoned (3 min) versus a lich dual lane.

It's not ok.

Rubick I will rip your guts if I find you and

Should Morphling Aghs Hybrid on Invoker copy across Invoked Spells?

Posted: 08 Feb 2017 12:17 AM PST

I ask because this spell is pretty trash on Invoker, you get a 20 second illusion that can literally only right-click and change his Orbs.

Would it be too strong to have the option for dual-sunstrike strats (sounds fun as shit) or a double meteor/deafening blast combo in team fights?
