What would you want in a DayZ map?

I, like many others, are itching for mapping tools and mod support to make new lands for the apocalypse. I've dipped my toe into the ARMA 3 editor to see what the DayZ editor might be like and have designed a rough concept for a map.

Of course many are looking forward to the already confirmed Namalsk addition coming in beta, and many others would love to revisit Taviana. But what do you like about these maps? What areas, such as a flooded town suggested here, would you like to see in a new map?

I've written down a few of my own:

  • Huge dam, much larger than the northern or Elektro dam. A long fall down one side and other a large lake.
  • Snowy mountain pass. A white valley with a single road through the centre designed to be a fast route between areas but easily turned into a death trap.
  • Island military base. Can be seen in my concept for Trava, an island that requires a boat/heli to get to.
  • City at the foot of a large cliff. Imagine the Novo cliff but by the sea.
  • A flooded town down-river from a dam. This seems like the most logical reason a town would be flooded post-apocalyptically. No upkeep on the dam, it bursts, floods the flats that were once part of a river.

What unique terrain would you like to see in a future map?

I can't get head tracking to work at all. Was support for TrackIR/FreeTrack/Opentrack removed?

Edit: Thanks /u/RAIGPrime for the solution. Now to figure out how to get my head to turn right (It only turns left no matter which way I turn my head).

The game plays well in my Vive (I don't get motion sickness when the framerate drops like some people do), but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get headtracking to work. The option to turn it on is no longer in the game settings, so was support removed entirely?

I still see head tracking controls mapped in the settings ('TrackIR left', 'TrackIR right', etc.), but when I turn my head nothing happens. I tried hitting * numerous times but still nothing. Opentrack shows that it's detecting my head movements (the pink octopus moves when I move my head), but for some reason the game isn't detecting anything.

Could someone with Opentrack/FreeTrack experience chime in? The only YouTube tutorials I've found for getting it to work are years out of date, and Googling/searching reddit posts has turned up with nothing. :(

For a long, long time I always thought, never, never can I get more than 24 frames in a town. After a year of abstinence I decided to hop back on. Character movement is better, great actually, better than Arma, although jumping is still cancer.

I played on the highest pop server I could find, I met a dude, we heard gunshots and decided to run to try to help out.

Then my game freezes and it won't shut down for like 15 minutes, I have a gtx 980ti, i7 4790k, 16gb ram

10/10 would do again.

I just got back into Dayz and so far im not entirely happy. Food is waaaay to scarce and ive been relying on the apple glitch almost entirely for my food because everything else leads to starvation before its ready or im prepared to do it (farming, fishing or hunting). Guns are still stupid hard to find with ammo been playing for 20 hours already never found a single assault rifle best was an MP5.

Lastly is the zombies. I like scary zombies but I dont like Usain bolt zombies...

I like how they path better, jump over walls (which is kinda unfair because we cant and we are supposed to be the ones with coordination and strength on our side because we are not infected) but I do not like the fact that you cant lose them or that they dont start walking after a bit.

The way it was before where they would chase you for about a kilometre was good. if you failed at stealth you could run away and try again if the group was too big and if you were starving/dehydrated that was a killer.

What do you guys think? Also please I don't want a response that boils down to "Dayz iz supposed 2 be supr hard an if u dont liek it go bak 2 cod" I played it back in the mod when dayz rewrote the apocalyptic survival genre and it was no where this difficult.

TLDR: I want Dayz fun not torture

Being pushed and pulled somehow?

My buddy and I went to the top of the rusted warehouse barn thing in stary after killing two very well geared people up top (M4 and AK with drum) we started getting pulled out of nowhere towards the ground. My buddy was pulled off the catwalk and died I was able to make it down but even on solid ground I was still being pulled. Has anyone had this issue and if they have was there a way to fix it?

I had to log out and when I tried to rejoin the server I was not able to find it in the list but my buddy who died was still playing it and after respawning :(

How is CPR supposed to work?

Was checking out a barn with a friend when he fell off one of the higher levels and hit the ground unconscious. We'd been having a decent run so he had full health at the time of the fall. I figured I'd try and repair whatever injuries he may have had then attempted CPR.

I bandaged him, splinted him, and gave him some water and then went at CPR.

But after the first compression his player stood up, while still indicating I had to CPR him, then I would CPR him and his character would fall again, CPR again - stand up again, and on and on until eventually he backed out of the server.

Aside from the buggy behavior, how is CPR supposed to work? Is it an action with a X second animation then you try again? Are you supposed to click in a rhythm or something? With the glitch of his character standing up it was impossible to get any sorta of clarity of how this was supposed to work. What are wake up conditions? Did my first aid help the situation at all?

Any help is welcome, thanks
