New (old) rule (re)added to the subreddit Fallout Daily Report

New (old) rule (re)added to the subreddit

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 07:18 PM PST

In the past, we had a rule regarding Fallout 4 rumors and leaks not being allowed to be posted without evidence.

We're bringing that rule back, but with the Fallout 4 caveat removed.

Rule 7:

No dissemination of rumors / leaks without ACTUAL evidence. - Some random blog saying an "unnamed source they trust" told them Obsidian is making Fallout: New Vegas 2 - Nuclear Boogaloo is not acceptable to post. Sharing evidence of some newly discovered webpages hidden on BethSoft.net which make references to potential new Fallout content, however, would be welcome as a post here.

This is in response to a rumor run amok that has not been backed up with evidence, but yet has been assume to be fact by many Fallout fans.

Remember, folks, that we have been deceived before. Let us not forget The Survivor 2299!

How Fallout 4 has actually improved my life & made me more productive.

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 07:43 PM PST

This is a bit of a personal post, but I thought it'd be fun to share my short story here.

Ever since getting this game, all I've done is looked at ways I can improve my home & be more productive.

  • Thanks to the settlement system

  • This past month I've completely changed my backyard from what it used to be, I've started trimming my trees, making literal wire fences & planting vegetables. I was never this kind of guy before, but it's made me realise how awesome it is.

After making my own gardens & farms in Fallout, I've genuinely started studying plant & vegetable growth now, and even have my own vegetable garden going. I'm so passionate about it as well which is crazy, because it used to be so boring to me.

  • Thanks to the scavenging feature

I've started doing a lot of my own DIY projects, which has made me super productive. The other day I actually went out and bought a Soda-stream, some empty coke bottles & blue kool-aid just so I could make my own Nuka Cola Quantum. My next project is finding an old fridge & bringing it back to life by spray painting it bright red & adding some Nuka-cola stickers on there. I've even got eBay open in another tab to hopefully find something.

  • Thanks to the Settlement system, again.

In the game I've been a bit of a perfectionist with lighting & making everything straight because of how OCD I am. Although over the past few years I've completely neglected my house when it comes to these things.

Just yesterday I changed every lightbulb in the house that needed changing, even rearranged my entire loungeroom setup.

My next goal for my house is to remove the drywall & add a nice feature wall that will look good up against the bricks.

  • These are just a few things that I've noticed have actually improved my life.

I honestly never thought a game could have this much impact on me, but somehow this beautiful post-apocalyptic world has really made me value the things we have in this day and age.

The sound design of the NV intro is genius

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 05:29 PM PST

You've just gone through the crazy, action-packed intro and its bitter-sweet Blue Moon, you wake up in Mitchelle's house, and the first thing you hear is this soft, somber, tired sounding old theme that instantly puts you into a more at-ease, safe feeling mood, yet at the same time there's something familiar and sad about it that feels like shaking hands with an old friend.

Then, you step outside, there's the brilliant flash of the utterly bare desert before you, and you (likely) encounter what is one of the best ambient tracks in any openworld game I've played. It's extremely unsettling and tense, with a dry and isolated desert air to the atmosphere. Really such a brilliant introduction to the wasteland compared to the other games, something just feels more authentic about it.

Why did MAD fail in the Fallout Universe?

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 04:25 PM PST

Pardon me if this is something that was easily explained in one of the Fallout titles, but so far with my time in 3, New Vegas, and 4, I've yet to find anything explaining why exactly MAD doctrine failed in the Fallout Universe. Mutually Assured Destruction, nobody will use their nuclear weapons if it means facing nuclear retaliation. Has it ever been explained why this doctrine fell through? Was there some sort of breakthrough in the weeks prior to The Great War that led one side to believe it could intercept the others nukes, only to turn out in practice to fail?

Im really hoping its actual modding for PS4, I haven't touched the game since they released "mods" for PS4 because they were disappointing.

TTW: When will I be getting the stronger weapons from NV in the Capital Wasteland?

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 08:09 PM PST

I'm currently level 18 and recently beat the Fo3 main story and tried to do Stealing Independence. I go down into a narrow corridor and there's a freaking Super Mutant Master with a Missile Launcher. Good luck killing that thing with a Chinese assault rifle- Will the stronger FNV weapons (like anything in .45-70) start dropping in the Capital Wasteland, or am I stuck with Fo3 weapons until I go west?

Hidden Secrets in Dead Money

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 09:20 PM PST

I really, really liked the hidden goodies in Dead Money- it lent a real sense of gratification when you found a stash of ammo or Stimpaks. My favorite of these moments was when I was grabbing a box of abraxo from a kitchen shelf and found a Fixer hidden beneath a horizontal abraxo box. It blew my mind.

What armor should I use/have at level 25 in Fallout New Vegas?

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 11:27 PM PST

I am currently level 25 and the armor that I currently use the most is the Van Graff Combat armor. I do have power armor but it's the brotherhood of steel armor.

What armor should a player like me have and use the most?

Also, about armor repair, Is there a cheaper place to repair armor and items in general or where do I find more of the same armor to repair the ones I already have?

Thanks.

Small strip of screen tearing in FNV

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 06:27 PM PST

Hi All,

I have been playing FNV recently and something has been really driving me nuts.

I am using a Lenovo Y50 - Touch: *Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.6 GHz *8GB RAM *Geforce 860M with 4GB vRam

and using HDMI to play on a 50inch 4k TV.

When I have my resolution set to highest it's about 3840 × 2160 , and I don't notice anything, but it is super choppy (High and Ultra High).

When I have my resolution set to anything below that, it is not choppy at all (Steam FPS reader says ~60fps), but it has a small line of screen tearing that is just noticeable enough to drive me nuts.

Don't notice anything at all on UH on the built in monitor on the Laptop (1920x1080). Is it just that my laptop cannot handle the 4k TV resolution, and anything less than that resolution is subject to this issue?

I have given Veronica dresses in the past but her reaction when I gave her the formal dress was amazing, the scream and speech makes me so happy I have her as a companion.

"I think players should have the freedom to create their own destiny because at the end of the day, their story is the one that’s the most important - despite what you intended. What you should be giving them is a playground for them to roleplay their opportunities." -Chris Avellone

Between all the arguing on this thread, you can't fault Chris for being a bad writer. He's like, the only guy to have his name be on both generations of Fallout games, after all.

Anyone selling the deluxe Pip-Boy tin?

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 10:18 PM PST

I figured I'd try my luck, since I HATE the plastic bin the ps4 special edition came with, even if accurate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
