Posted: 30 Jan 2017 10:37 AM PST Lmao this is the final post about the tournament I promise. I figured that this deserved its own spot. Part 1 - I had to restart OBS due to a fatal error. Also had to delete all scenes and add them during the first game of part 2. Sorry about that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBICLXDlaxI Part 2 - This definitely includes some of my favorite games of the event. If you're not interested in watching the entire show but you want to see some great sets then I'd like to recommend pretty much any one of the sets after the 2 hour mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7oj-0A92Ng The videos are processing so they're not at the best quality yet. They will be soon enough though. okay reddit, I'm done spamming you. Thank you for giving competitive team gameplay in gw2 a chance. Lets hope anet does the same in 2017. Posted: 30 Jan 2017 08:06 AM PST The end result could be gems and a cool obtainable exclusive backitem or something for the 5 winners or even a guild. Guild Wars 1 had them, and if the game was in the era of Twitch, would have been even more great. Since Groucharoo got like 2-3k viewers, there is obviously some merit for them, and I think this game could be easily streamable during tournaments since it doesn't really use fog of war compared to other games. But having a competitive game where the only sources of tournaments is Anet's worlds and seldom third party ones like Groucharoo doesn't sustain itself, and I really want GW2 to do well. Plus it would have a lot easier entry than trying to get into something very official, like Anet's worlds. edit: and if anyone is curious about what this would look like, here is what the tournament style was in Guild Wars 1. One saturday a month would be the playoffs and final match. Each match could be a bo3, while the finals being a best out of 5 or 7 or whatever. With how short games are, this would definitely work. Tourn of groucharoo, the competitive state of teams in GW2; aftermath Posted: 30 Jan 2017 02:44 AM PST Alright everyone, after 8 hours of casting; how did ToG go? In my opinion, it was the best online tournament we've had in GW2 period. I'd like to take the chance again to thank everyone who supported, watched and participated in the event. If you missed out on the live show then don't worry, we are gong to have the entire stream uploaded to youtube. Aside from OBS randomly failing me and me having to restart the stream after the first set (and then the ~15 minutes of me trying to recover the overlays etc while matches were played because I had to delete all scenes to restart OBS) we had no technical issues, extended breaks or intermissions. A huge part of this was because of all the admins who made sure me and sind had all the help we could ever ask for. Aside from that, my stream had around 2k views. Combining the other streamers we were around 2500~ which is absolutely amazing considering that we had the CS:GO finals going on at the same time. Almost all of the games sind and I got the chance to cast were extremely competitive, back and forth with a huge amount of diversity in builds. If you compare the average skill level of teams and players from now to the last tournament of legends I think it's pretty obvious to see that things have gotten infinitely more competitive now. We have seen a great return of competitive veterans and also the newer names have done more than well enough to show their prowness. It's extremely fun to see the competitive scene grow and we had both teams and viewers asking for more tournaments. With that said; I believe this tournament perfectly showed how fun GW2 team gameplay can be. How exciting it can be to compete and also to watch. It also displayed how important it is to have an area where competitive players can emerge and network which the competitive solo/duoq did. I will however not be announcing any followup tournaments as of now. I believe that the ball in now in Arenanets court. We need a proper, competitive outlet in game for these teams to continue to grow without having to commit to a tournament. I'm not talking about a mixed que like before, I'm talking about a proper competitive outlet via in game system which still leave space for people to develop on their own. As of right now we have heard absolutely nothing from arenanet for what's going to happen to teams since they removed solo/duo. I have not competed myself with my team since the lan last year. The competitive teams and players that did not qualify for the lan have not been given a chance to compete for over half a year now with no news whatsoever on when they're gonna be able to do it. I'm not asking for a huge cash prize, esl, and all that jazz (although that is definitely my personal endgame). I'm asking for a chance to our scene to grow and chance for me to get on teamspeak with my team and play some 5on5 GW2 again. I am extremely proud of the GW2 competitive community. You have shown to me the value of our scene and you did a great job showing to the naysayers how fantastic our game can be in 2017. ANYWAY; SOME RANDOM FUN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TOURN. After 4 months, I think it is time to reassess to price of ascended boxes sold in the Fractals lobby Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:29 AM PST On the 20th of September, when the Rising Flames update hit the game, a new vendor tab was added to BLING-9009 in the Fractals lobby to offer a new way to buy ascended boxes of weapons and armors. On this date, the price of a single Stabilizing Matrix was ~37 silver which added a mere 67 to 92 gold on top of the 56-70 gold base cost of each boxes. Easy maths: 60+74= 134 gold for a weapon and 70+92= 162 gold for a coat, which is way higher than crafting any armor piece and almost 1.5 times the cost of crafting a weapon, even a two handed one. For reference, as of this moment crafting a Zojja weapon costs between 78 and 96 gold (Staff) and crafting a Zojja armor piece costs between 72 and 110 gold (Light Chest). This price issue was pointed out during the Devs AMA following the patch and we were answered that:
(Source - Sorry I could not find the actual comment among the thousand responses, but it's there.) So, the fine economists at ArenaNet expected a demand spike for matrices following this patch but were confident that the price would drop significantly after that to the point where the fractal boxes sold by BLING-9009 would actually reach an appropriate price for the players. Spoiler alert, that did not happen. The price for a single Stabilizing Matrix has been gravitating around 40 silver since the infusion system changes on July 26th and the demand is likely to go up once the Legendary Armor is finally released considering it requires 450 of those. I, as a not fine ArenaNet economist, highly doubt it's going to reach the targeted 15-20 silver per unit price to make these boxes relevant anytime soon if ever. So I would like ArenatNet to adjust the prices of this vendor on the next patch to account for the current cost of the 180-250 matrices needed for each box that has not dropped at all during the last 6 months and also for the ridiculously easy access to ascended armors in sPvP in the meantime. These two acquisition methods for the same gear are very inconsistent and unfair, especially regarding the liquid gold cost. Thank you for reading. TL;DR: the ascended boxes sold in the fractals lobby are way too costly because the devs expected the price of Stabilizing Matrices to drop significantly after when they set the initial vendor prices 4 months ago. The price of Stabilizing Matrices has not dropped and is not likely to do so anytime soon so I think it is time to reassess the vendor prices like they suggested during the AMA. Looking at the GW2 partner program list Posted: 30 Jan 2017 09:34 AM PST Heya, So I heard a few days ago (can't remember where) that quite a few GW2 partners (list here: https://welcome.guildwars2.com/en/partner-program) were either not active at all, or no longer doing GW2 videos. Now it's not my place to judge who is a valid partner or not, but I figured I'd take a look at the entire list and see what's up. There is a surprising amount of dead links (to either dead websites or non-existing YT channels) and a few other things. The table below is what I found. Now, disclaimer that I had to judge content based on recorded videos on YT, twitch, or website updates. If a channel does streams daily but has no recorded videos, my observation of that might be incorrect. I've tried to remain clear with comments such as "No recorded GW2 video since X".

QOL Suggestions: A 'consume all' options for ToK. And speed boost for map completion Posted: 30 Jan 2017 08:53 PM PST 'Consume all' option for Tomes of Knowledge So the first one, a 'consume all' option for Tomes of Knowledge should be put in only because for people who create alts for whatever reason (me specifically), it becomes a little mundane consuming ToK's one by one, opening & closing all panels that show what new skills or attributes you've gained. For someone like me who's been playing the game for 5 years. I wouldn't say it slows me down, but it definitely doesn't need to be this mundane since its a no brainer that in the next Expansion Pack, there will be a levelling up mechanic/progression system (mastery point system or whatever anet decide), so by then it would make sense to make levelling up with ToK's a simpler task. Speed Boost for Map Completion This one may seem a little controversial but, hear me out. The same reason stated above, for alt-alcoholic's like myself I enjoy map completion. Its one of the main reasons I'm still playing GW2 because above all I enjoy the PvE aspect of this game. But again it becomes tedious when I'm completing Kessex Hills, Metrica Province, Cursed Shore, Etc. For the 5th time on a different char. So to speed things up and improve the Map Completion experience so it wont be a monotonous task, I think a reasonable suggestion would be a speed boost. Something along the lines of this. Once completing a map (Kessex Hills for example) you receive a reward chest for completing said map. instead of reworking the rewards, how about adding a guaranteed speed boost specific to map completion. And to take it a bit far, this specific boost increases your movement speed by a reasonable amount (40% like the speed boost mushrooms in HoT maps) for 1 hour? By adding this aspect, it can definitely make speed runs for map completions a simpler task. Although I'm not including XP and rewards when it comes to map completion (unless people think that should be reworked). I think thats fine as it is, since for new players or people only completing maps for the 1st time, you dont want to take away that achievement and exploration experience away from them. thoughts? Metas on Timers: What's the Benefit? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 08:44 PM PST I thoroughly enjoy TD, AB, and VB metas, but I agree with many others in that the perfect meta event system is found in the Silverwastes, where decent rewards are distributed throughout the process of contributing to the meta activation. With that said, why does Anet keep making events on timers? Is there a benefit to it (e.g. performance-wise or reward-rationing)? For me, the additional hassle with this is that I have limited time to "play how I want," and can't spend a half hour in the wrong instance waiting to get into the right one to fight Gerent (which I still might not get into after clicking for 30 minutes). Then I have to wait another 2 hours to try again. Please, Anet, consider reviving the SW system! I just experienced scribing at its finest Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:48 PM PST I crafted a gold wall. Took a bit longer than 15 minutes. Half if the time I tried to find all the mats I need from the tp. Took me 1 minute to lose the overview (this might be caused by the fact that i have to search through recipes of recipes of recipes and so on). I wonder if there is any way to improve this. Are Nightmare Courtiers serving, or even possessed by, demons? Posted: 31 Jan 2017 12:08 AM PST Are Nightmare Courtiers serving, or even possessed by, demons? It's the question that hasn't been asked but should've been. In this post, I will outline the reasons why I believe that this possibility is more likely a positivity. But before I do that, let me begin with the following excerpt from the Guild Wars Nightfall Manuscripts, which introduces us to demons:
From the above extract we learn two important things about demons. 1) They rely on the suffering, despair, and vital energy of intelligent creatures to survive; and 2) they prefer to prey on "living" beings, such as humans, rather than, say, ghosts/souls. Although we're told that demons exist in "realms beyond what we can see and experience", it seems that they can appear in the physical realm as "monstrous humanoids, bestial abominations, or radically inhuman horrors". How they achieve physical form is difficult to determine from the scant information provided by the manuscripts, but it may have something to do with the kind of victims they feast upon. Demons feasting upon souls, for example, may not be able to take physical form if said souls have passed into the Mists. Souls that haven't passed into the Mists, however – such as ghosts or fleshly beings – may be anchored to physical reality in a way that allows demons who feed upon them to take advantage of their tether. One such example of this phenomenon may be found at Godlost Swamp, where tortured spirits – souls that haven't passed into the Mists yet and retain some form of physicality, in this case taking aether-form – identify what would otherwise be unseen: an entity (a shade) behind their pain. Other instances of demons entering the physical realm aren't as subtly concealed, though not for want of trying. Fleshreavers, note, clothe themselves with the flesh of their victims and doubtless feed on their souls too. Like other demons, they try to hide themselves from sight, residing in forgotten places like the caves of Lornar's Pass) and the gullies of the Brisban Wildlands.
A momentary reflection on the bigger picture We need to take a moment here to try and understand why demonic life forms might feast on souls or even try to enter the physical realm. I theorize that demons represent the residual consciousnesses of beings that have been shattered into pieces and scattered throughout the multiverse. Hence, when a demon, such as a shade, chooses to prey upon a soul or souls in Godlost Swamp, it is in fact attempting to assimilate a long-lost part or parts of itself. However, the process of reintegration isn't without incident. Thus, the "tortured spirits" of Godlost represent an inner conflict that arises within a damaged psyche when one part of itself (represented by, say, a demon) struggles to reconcile with another (represented by, say, a spirit). From this perspective, consider that the physical realms of the multiverse are nothing more than barriers or prisons preventing higher beings from repairing the damage that was done to themselves when their forms were shattered into pieces and scattered throughout the many layers of existence.
Why Nightmare sylvari might be in the service of demons Back to Nightmare sylvari. I think that they may be in the service of - indeed, even possessed by - demons because they use various techniques on each other and Dream sylvari to induce fear and suffering – the stuff on which demonic entities thrive. Furthermore, during Living Story Season 1 we were introduced to the Toxic Hybrid – an entity which many observed resembled a Margonite, a demon from the Mists. I mean, come on, if the hybrid wasn't a monstrous humanoid, bestial abomination, or radically inhuman horror, I don't know what is. So then, Nightmare sylvari may be serving, or even possessed by, demons. Which brings us to Dream sylvari: Is it possible that they are simply (incomplete) spirits that have been imprisoned on Tyria, refused passage into the Mists? Is this why demons might take an interest in them? After all, if a demon can latch onto a spirit that is tethered to the physical realm, isn't it one way in which it can experience a fleshly existence? How the hell am I supposed to deal with my inventory? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 11:57 PM PST I have just got to Bitterfrost Frontier after playing through LS2, HoT and the other areas over the last month. Over this time I have accumulated a shit ton of stuff, half of which I don't even know what it's for. I have 120 inventory slots and only get about 20 slots free for loot, the rest is weapons and armour I need, but about half of that filled slots are just crap from other zones. How do you all deal with this mess? It's a complete joke. NA/EU PvP Leaderboards for Guild Wars 2 Armory (See Comments for Details) Posted: 30 Jan 2017 05:54 AM PST

Posted: 30 Jan 2017 04:32 AM PST Regardless of how torn the community is/was about this controversial subject I feel I need to point out that you can do it without a bit of stress or suffering. A bit of backstory. I only started MLing about 3 weeks ago.I started working 14hour shifts most days and i get back from work at 10:30pm each night. This means that on work nights I can get one ML before going to bed. Nearly every single one has had belly-aching of some kind going in within the squad, be it the constant squad broadcast ordering folk to switch, map find, don't bloat lobby and the classic Panicc. I Have tried to keep my eyes open for crew leaders Like Shiro CC etc but Its easy to miss them. Regardless of the loot it always seems so stressful for many. Last night I came home trashed and I'll and out of habit dropped into AB. I found myself unable to settle on one ML group, all had seemed to have the same petty bickering, hell it recent nights its gotten worse as all the super jaded kick happy Squad leaders have come out in force. EG - Night before last I was in one and I'd gotten to the end of the first set of chests and switched to lobby, all subgroup maps I tried to switch to were full and all of a sudden I got kicked. I'd been in lobby about 10 seconds. This was after i had helped show some new players at south how to beat that octovine. Hell, I had a friend in the squad who mentioned that right after I had been kicked a squad organizer invited a guild member of theirs into my spot. Pretty revolting behavior really. So after that vileness I didn't see the point of leading gates or helping with the AB meta anymore. I went to do my dailies and was gonna log off to sleep. Not really caring I tried my luck again and got into and ML squad....it was wonderful, it was different in every way from the normal bullshit. Each subgroup had five players as normal but as each map completed the meta all but and anchor player was moved to group one by the Commander. From there we could just go through each map, switching and looting. There was no kicks, no backtalking or hurt feelings, everyone was happy and relaxed, joking with each other and talking about their days etc. it was a great experience. The commander encouraged 3g donations from each player with the total being divided between the players that anchored each map. I want to thank those that use this style, it was so much faster, more profitable and more hasslefree for all than the other drop in drop out method. All in all it was a great end to the evening. Will be looking for the same group again tonight. With the broken ML era drawing to a close remember that there is a better way. Have fun guys and be excellent to each other. EDIT - Don't get scammed Like anything there are those creeps that do take advantage of Anchored ML and there will likely be more of these turds floating about in the AB LFG so here is some advice. Legit AML leaders will never demand gold or globs etc. They will certainly encourage and ask for donations because #Anchorlivesmatter, these gents give up their time and loot to create a stress free looting environment. donations go towards paying them for their important role. All Scammers want is to make a mint of those who are easy to take in, then when they have their pound of flesh will either kick that person..or, as I experienced tonight will kick the everyone from the squad the moment each complete a map. They want you gone asap so they can get it on LFG t take in more unsuspecting players and demand glod etc from them. If you see a group of players being kicked like this you may as well leave and see fi you can get into another ML because they are going to kick you when your map wins. Keep a close eye on how their squad messages are written this is often a big give away because the turds are lazy af My advice, if you want to support the guild/group of players running Anchored multiloots then donate after the event. Legit groups will have no problem with this at all. In my case I think I and several others who were warning folk what was going on managed to make this one unprofitable for these dicks. The squad leader was Broadcasting, asking why no one was giving him anything. Play safe, play smart and as always have fun. Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:48 PM PST Regularly, I come across a (usually a necro) player with a full complement of minions just killing a group of enemies in a fixed spawn location. The player is obviously AFK and automatically looting anything that these enemies drop as they are just standing there for sometimes hours at a time. Functionally, this is the nearly the same as botting in terms of negative effect on the game and economy, etc. But is it considered botting by Anet? I report them as botting but just trying to get a confirmation from the devs or someone in the know. Thanks. Would it be against ToS to sell a guild name? As I progress more into the Lore of GW2 the more I WANNA PLAY A SALAD. Posted: 30 Jan 2017 11:46 AM PST I have a level 72 Charr Thief and I'm kinda wishing I had created a Sylvari. How are Sylvari as Thieves? Look / animations-wise ( Male ). Now don't get me wrong, I really like the Charr too but I feel like there's so little to them about the main story line. Only the first 30 levels was more about Charr. Question about Rurik's Engagement Ring Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:32 PM PST On the Wiki it says that once the ring has been acquired, strange lumps will drop from enemies (rarely) Does this only apply to a character that has the ring equipped, or is it account wide? [link] [comments] |
