After over 2 years, I'm ready to officially say it... Destiny is my favorite game of all time.

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 06:32 AM PST

I've been gaming since the Atari 2600, grew up on the NES and SNES. Still remember getting that PS1 back in the day, so yeah, I've been around gaming nearly all my life. The Legend of Zelda is still my all time favorite series, and Wind Waker my favorite Zelda game. But all that being said, it's time to move Destiny to that number 1 spot on my list. I've been playing since beta, and no other game has given me what Destiny has. The hours played, the fun I've had, and the friends I've made, even this community here at Reddit. I was forced to take long breaks from Destiny because of "life stuff", but I was still here nearly every day. When I'm not playing, I'm watching others play on Twitch. It's an addiction for many of us, I know. With the games coming soon (BotW, Andromeda, ect.), I know my time with Destiny draws nigh, and although I look forward to Destiny 2 hopefully this Fall, I had to take a moment to share my love for this game with my fellow Guardians here. We're family, and out of all the great things Destiny has to offer, I think it's community is what has me hooked the most. Thank you Bungie, for an amazing game, and thank you brothers and sisters, for just being awesome! Keep letting your light shine, and I'll see you starside!!!

Blacksmith shader giveaway

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 06:44 AM PST

I just found a redeemable code for the Blacksmith shader I got from a promotion event almost a year ago; and I cannot think of a better option than to give it to the community.

Unfortunately I have only one code to give, so there will be only one lucky guardian. To be eligible just post a comment in this thread. Post what ever you like, I will pick a random post reply on Monday lunch time and PM a code.

Some rules:

  • Your account has to be at least a week old

  • You should have some signs of activity on r/DTG (comments, posts) prior this post

  • You should have positive karma

  • Only one reply to post per person (replies to comments are unlimited of course)

PS: Make your comment special, and my decision might not be 100% random

What do you want the Destiny 2 collectors edition to contain?

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 12:57 PM PST

I never got my hands on the ghost edition, so I'm very eager for the D2 announcement just to see what the CE will have this time. I was wondering what you all want it to have?

Tested - Rangefinder vs no Rangefinder in Palindrome and Lord High Fixer beyond ideal range (with video)

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 05:31 AM PST

Hello all,

So I know this is now fairly common knowledge, but I just wanted to put up a video to show the comparison between a Lord High Fixer vs Palindrome in terms of range (as Palindrome has more range but does it make a huge difference?) and also the difference in using Rangefinder and not using Rangefinder on two of the exact same roll handcannons.

So, all of these hand cannons were all rolled with Sureshot and rifled barrel. One of the Palindromes then had Rangefinder, as did one of the LHFs, but the other two did not. This test takes place just outside optimal range for a HC.

https://youtu.be/tVXQxWfxaPc

As you can see, the results are:

Palindrome, sureshot, rifled barrel, rangefinder - 78 crit
Palindrome, sureshot, rifled barrel, no rangefinder - 71 crit

Lord High Fixer, sureshot, rifled barrel, rangefinder - 77 crit
Lord High Fixer, sureshot, rifled barrel, no rangefinder - 70 crit

So, rangefinder is giving a significant boost to damage drop off. The difference between LHF and Palindrome is less significant, with just one damage point between the two.

Therefore, if you're prone to launching into a HC duel outside of the optimal range, Rangefinder is a big plus.

There's also a bonus Icarus vs Non-Icarus test at the end too! Needless to say, Icarus is great for air-based shenanigans.

Just thought I'd pop this here as it's a much more succinct and easy to see guide between HCs with Rangefinders and HCs without than I've seen before.

Cheers all!

If you are carrying someone, don't blame them when you lose. Right?

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 03:57 PM PST

Basically the title. If you are "carrying" someone, it's not their fault when you die. Especially if they are consistently killing the people who killed you.

When you are in the strike playlist, SPLIT UP.

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 06:39 PM PST

I basically only play strikes in Destiny. I love them. I could play them all day. I have 6 imago loops without skeleton keys. This is all I do. I'm going to explain why the fire team should split up because I'm sick of having terrible ransoms in my fire team.

I hate when we are at the boss fight and one and/or both of the randoms in the fire team are right next to me. The boss area is usually very big and is meant to be that way. Splitting up is very beneficial. First it creates a crossfire. And for some bosses, such as the undying mind, is very important. Because when one person can't shoot the mind because of the shield the other 2 guys can shoot it. Or at least one other because there are a lot of shields.

Another reason why splitting up is important is because if a boss hits 2 or 3 players at once with a powerful attack, THEN YOU WIPE. I hate it when the two players in my fire team die at the exact same place in the exact same time. That puts a lot more pressure on the last player alive.

Another minor reason why splitting up is better is because of heavy weapons. I don't know how many times I have killed myself because of other ransoms walking in front of me right as I fire my rocket launcher. Its not on purpose but it's annoying and can be avoided.

Please when you are striking, don't stay right next to other players. Split up and be a more effective fire team.

SIVA Ghost Phone Wallpapers

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 10:23 AM PST

Greetings Guardians!

A while ago I posted a 3D render wallpaper I created: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/5ar3lr/siva_3d_render_wallpaper/

I promised to make wallpapers using my ghost model so I've finally got around to doing them! Here we are:

Behance link

Imgur Album with various crops

The reason for the large gap in time is I've been learning much more about 3D design and also acquired a new render engine, Octane. This is the same ghost model used in the previous render but with much better textures and realism.

Hope everyone enjoys these, as always I appreciate all feedback on these and any of my other work on my behance account.

The first time you fought Randal in Year One

One of the reasons I'm so average at crucible is I'm always aiming for the head

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 08:35 AM PST

I typically run a hand cannon, and those are predominately either 1 critical, 2 body or 1 body, 2 critical for the optimal kill.

But I just can't force my brain to remember that. I'm always going for 3 headshots. With hand cannon bloom, there's a good chance that I whiff at least one bullet.

I think this stems from excessive pve, where every shot is aimed at the dome.

I also can't figure out if I should try to get body shots first and finish with a headshot or vice versa.

Does anyone else do this? How did you stop?

Faction Allegiances, is it just me?

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 04:33 PM PST

My Warlock is here to eradicate the darkness, he will pledge allegiance with whichever faction has the best weapons to get his job done. My Hunter tends to flirt with DO and NM, depending on the meta, playing them against each other, but had a bad experience with FWC once, and vowed he would never go back, probably. My Titan is loyal to FWC, although in extreme circumstances, he has done some work for DO, when it helped the cause, but he will never, ever, lift a fucking finger for those NM bastards. Funny thing is, I don't remember deciding any of this, they just kind of did it by themselves.

What if the vault of glass served as the forge mode/world for destiny.

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 11:00 AM PST

[discussion] The vault of glass gifts the vex the power to manipulate reality and change the future, but the effects can only happen inside the vault. I have also heard the fwc have made attempts to use the vault of glass as well.

I believe this would be a fantastic opportunity to introduce a forge-like mode (similar to halo) where the gaurdians are experimenting with vex technology.

Imagine summoning hive and then deleting them from reality just like the raid. I would personally like to make Atheon and Crota fight as well. It could be pretty spectacular.

All 14 Prison of Elders bosses ranked on how big of a pain in the ass they are

Posted: 27 Jan 2017 10:20 PM PST

So my Pain In The Ass rankings of Strike Bosses was a success. The only post I've made to make it to the front page for more than 5 minutes. I had some people requesting to do a ranking of the Raid bosses, so I'm pulling a Bungie and disappointing you all with Prison of Elders instead:

14) Noru'usk- I'm going to be basing most of the bosses in this list off of the updated Challenge of the Elders versions with actual mechanics. And because of this, Noru'usk comes in last. Like Aksor, he has no real unique mechanics- while his constant Axion Darts are definitely a pain in the ass, Taken Centurions are hardly the most infuriating enemies out there. It's the same as Sho'oulth out on Mars, who I'm pretty sure I've struggled with more, so he gets this spot.

13) Seditious Mind- While Hydra bosses have a history of being a pain in the ass, the Seditious Mind is probably the least threatening of all of them. His special attack- targeted mortars- doesn't really hit all that often with it's huge indicator and long windup comparable to a Dragonball Z episode. His regular attack is more likely to kill you, but the arena provides plenty of cover, and Taken Vex aren't very annoying (which is a completely relative statement, btw)

12) Valus Trau'ug- Likely the first PoE boss many of us faced, he really didn't set a very high bar. Rotating shields can be a pain in the ass if you don't have your elemental bases covered, but I'm pretty sure Epic was never a modifier in PoE, and Match Game was introduced in TTK, so his shields would never be resistant. This led to him falling victim to the ever-present "Nuke it with Gjallarhorn" strategy (what didn't?), but even that wasn't necessary on Trau'ug. All you had to do was FOLLOW THE DAMN TRAIN wear down his shields and put as much damage in him as possible before they recalibrated. Though not being able to continue damage to keep his shields down was a pain in the ass, I suppose. The Cabal Arena actually could be a pain in the ass, but Trau'ug wasn't the best to show it off.

11) Overmind Minotaur- Maybe I'm being a bit unfair ranking him this low, but face it- this chump and his peek-a-boo mechanic isn't as bad as it could be. All you have to do is break line of sight, and there's tons of cover in the arena. Sometimes you'll be caught off guard and detained, but unlike Qodron, the shields were pretty easily destroyed, and could only detain one person at a time. The Vex were probably the easiest arena anyways.

10) Kaliks- Servitor bosses have never been a pain in the ass. They're big, slow, their attacks are easy to dodge, their crit spot is easy to hit. But Kaliks takes the cake for lamest Servitor boss. His special mechanic is killing a bunch of Dregs. C'mon Bungie. Far from the smallest pain in the ass, but still. Come on.

9) Wretched Knight- I hate Taken Mines. I really do. I don't think I've ever actually been killed by one, but their ridiculous radius chipping your shields at any range is a pain in the ass, especially with Exposure (the second-worst PITA mod after f*cking Trickle). And they're everywhere. Some men just want to watch the world be minorly inconvenienced. And there's his "push enemies back" thing that I'm pretty sure doesn't actually do anything but waste precious HUD space.

8) Pilot Servitor- So the guy himself isn't too much of a pain in the ass. He's just a giant Servitor that occasionally lobs grenades. So what makes him such a PITA? When those grenades actually hit you which is surprisingly often. The way they sporadically bounce around makes it seem like you couldn't possibly be hit by one, but when they do, you're dead instantly in likely the most infuriating death possible in PoE. They're rare enough to still put Pilot Servitor pretty low, but painful enough to not put him last.

7) Gulrot- I really don't like slowing mechanics. I really don't. One of the biggest pains in the ass possible is being turned into a heavily armed space snail. You could hold it down by killing Major Wizards, but they were easily some of the biggest pain in the ass enemies of Y1 (remember this was before the Taken began their reign of controllers-in-TVs frustration). This fugly ogre can GulROT (yeah, I'm out of ideas)

6) KEKSIS THE BETRAYED- You know what makes Destiny fun? Super special awesome space magic superpowers. You know what makes Destiny lame? Trickle. But also Keksis, both of which take away your space magic (theres a myriad of other things that make Destiny lame, but this isn't that kind of thread). If Trickle was on with Keksis, you would never throw a grenade again. Unless you exposed yourself long enough to defuse the bombs, which was nothing if not consistent, you'd lose those abilities, which made Challenge of the Elders that much harder if you needed them for points that week. And throw in Captain Darkness Blasts for good measure. Pain in the ass. NEXT.

5) SYLOK THE DEFILED- Okay, so he's basically the same as Noru'usk in that he's just an upscaled Taken enemy with no major changes. But unlike Noru'usk, it actually made him a pain in the ass. The flame walls he constantly vomits out like a bulimic dragon (sounds like a new OP weapon) leave a massive field that deals a ton of damage. I've had times where someone dies in it, gets revived, then dies again before they can get out. You can at least shoot down Axion Darts. And dammit Variks, use your indoor voice. You're not Shaxx.

4) Urrox- Bungie has a history of turning children's playground games into game modes. Halo gave us King of the Hill, Juggernaut is basically a backwards tag, Oddball is keepaway, so on and so forth. But they finally reached the pinnacle with Urrox, and made us play "The Floor Is Lava: The Video Game." Every minute on the minute it was suddenly Happy Hopping Moron Day. Serious pain in the ass, especially if Solar Burn or Grounded were on that week (Solar Burn was his modifier on the first week of House of Wolves, btw, and we were all underleveled for it). Also, Hallowed Wizards. God. Damn.

3) Val Aru'un- Also known as Psion Flayers 2: Electric Boogaloo. Val Aru'un heard us laughing behind his back, and came back a year later with his alien sax trio in tow. With him and the inactive Psions being invincible, he can become a real pain in the ass. The active Flayer can take a beating himself, and you'll be mobbed by Phalanxes in the meantime. And remember how I said the arena is a pain in the ass? This is where it shines. You're surrounded from pretty much everywhere. Any good vantage point is easily flanked. Have I mentioned the Phalanxes? Yeah, screw this barbershop quartet of space turtles.

2) Qodron- This guy was such a pain in the ass, he earned a place with Skolas, Ta'aurc, and the Flayers in the Nerfed Bosses Club. This guy was easily the hardest of the original PoE rotation bosses. Like Gulrot, he has his slowing mechanic, which I hate. The whole "Qodron's Eye" mechanic is what really makes it a pain in the ass. Miss him? Wipe. Kill him too early and lose the buff? Wipe. Person with the buff doesn't have a powerful enough weapon? Wipe. He was pretty much the only PoE boss who could force a wipe, besides our predictable number one...

1) Skolas- I, personally, will never be able to appreciate the supreme pain in the ass that Skolas was. I was one of the lucky bastards to get Gjallarhorn fairly early, so the two times I faced him before setting down Destiny for several months, I just went with the "Nuke it with Gjallarhorn" strategy. But I knew all the mechanics of the fight anyways. I heard the stories of people banging their heads against the wall for hours. Kill the Servitors. Pass the random buff with perfect timing. Don't get mobbed by infinite Dregs. And don't forget to dismantle your mines, yessssssssss? I can't appreciate it, but I can understand it. Skolas was one of the hardest challenges the game has ever faced. He forced a nerf to Elemental Burns. He even took a massive hit to his health in a patch a couple months after HoW dropped. He is the ultimate pain in the ass of the Prison of Elders, and in contention for that title in the whole game (unlike Kovic, though, he at least deserves to be a PITA since he's endgame. Kovic should be our bitch)

So I pulled another Bungie in writing this list. I just hastily cobbled it together to put it out to get some cheap attention. Sorry it wasn't funny. I can't even be bothered to proofread it. Here's the truth: I never did OG Prison of Elders much. Like I said, I did Skolas twice before taking a long break, so I missed Gulrot and Kaliks, so I kinda just made assumptions about them. Even after it was updated, I didn't face the bosses nearly as much as Strike bosses, and I never found any of them to be as big of a pain in the ass as the likes of Kovic or the Super Cabal Bros. Anyways, I will be doing Raid Bosses next. That one ought to be slightly less predictable. And slightly more funny, so I'll take more time on it.

If you wanna read more of my lackluster Destiny writings in the meantime, here's some cringeworthy fanfiction.

The problem with strike shaders and emblems…

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 10:47 AM PST

So I've been collecting all the shaders and emblems and I've almost completed my collection. However, my progress has been completely stopped with trying to collect the strike emblem and shaders. This is due to the fact that these can only be obtained through the siva crisis playlist and NOT the siva crisis heroic playlist with a drop rate so low you'd question even trying to collect these.

I ran the siva crisis playlist for 5 hours straight and I only obtained 1 duplicate emblem and shader. I understand that RNG is a large factor in obtaining these but this is still a little much.

This problem could be fixed in a number of ways such as increasing drop rates or simply making it that you can't obtain duplicates. They could also make it so that you can obtain them in the heroic playlist with an increase drop rate over the regular playlist to help incentivise players into playing the playlist more.

Of Eliksni and Ether - The Beginning.

Posted: 28 Jan 2017 09:19 PM PST

Snow falls on the lair as the inhabitants hurriedly pack up their belongings.

It is coming.

A female captain looks over her tiny child. At just a few months old, it sips ether through a tube, from a stationary servitor. She knows that it has come for her - the last baron of House Scar, loyal to her dead kell to the very end. She jerks her head upwards as the roof shakes - a ship.

The fallen dive for cover as the jumpship bombards them with its guns. Its occupant jumps out and lands on the ground, feet first.

It's here.

A few vandals prime their line rifles and slam the beast with molten arc rounds. But the titan just shrugs it off and raises its weapon - slamming the trigger and pounding the vandals with lead as they fall - one by one. The fallen cower in fear as one brave dreg tries to prove herself and lunges at the monster.

It slams the dreg with a punch, and before she even hits the ground, the monster launches a bullet strait through her skull, making Ether hiss from her destroyed mask. The monster moves on, gunning down each fallen meticulously.

The baby cries at the sharp pings of gunfire, as the captain takes a knee. Wondering if there was any way to prevent this, she growls in her mask. Before walking out the door to face the beast, she glances back and whispers in Eliksni: "Be brave, little kell". The baby hiccups, unaware of its importance.

The titan gasps as he removes his helmet. Toros, famed archon slayer, grimaces as he looks at a hole in his shoulder. A few of those vandals did a number on him. He is not worried though - his accelerated healing is already closing the gaps in his flesh. Suddenly, Toros hears the cries of a child. Fallen. He cocked his gun and strode over to what looked like a crib, hooked up to some ball.

The infant confusedly looked up the barrel of the gun, not knowing it was staring death in the face. Toros rested his finger on the trigger - and then they come. Flashbacks, from before the collapse - looking at that baby triggers something within him. Images flash in his brain - a child holding a hand, a crib, a hospital. He pulled the trigger just against the infant's face, making it scream in pain and have a long cut across its face. The titan bellowed and threw his weapon to clank against the wall. He looked at his own hand - what were these feelings? These images?

Holding his head, he sprinted for the door but missed, and crashed through the concrete wall, rending and denting his armor. He stumbled to his feet as his ghost's feed echoed concernedly through his helmet - transmatting out of the ruined lair and into his ship.

End of Prologue. Feel free to leave criticism and feedback!
