10k Wintersday drink giveaway starts in 10 minutes!

(This is for NA players, sorry EU!)

Since it's the season for giving, I've decided to give away 10,000 drinks that can be used for the Festive Imbiber achievement, which is part of the Winter's Presence collection.

For the next half hour or so I'll be hanging out in Divinity's Reach... there'll be some GW2 trivia questions and some random winners as well. There will also be 5 bonus prizes of 1,000 drinks and a couple of Frostforged weapons.

/squadjoin Lostris Fenn to get into the same DR instance.

EDIT: We ended up going for 2 hours as I had a couple of people donate prizes. In the end we gave away what I listed, plus 4 more frostforged weapons and a stack of mystic coins! Thanks to everyone for hanging out with us!

NA PVP Leaderboard, #1&2 with a staggering total of 10 games played

So at first I saw this forum post titled "Proof that God of PvP is a joke" by Jeff (one of the pro league players, formerly team Never Lucky I think?) and I thought nah that can't be... but then I log into the game today and I see this???

Does this make sense to anyone? Maybe I'm not as experienced in gaming competitive scene as others but I've never seen anything like this before, just finished "placement" matches and immediately #1 & #2 (with #4 not far behind with a total of 11 games played...)?

Again, I'm not an expert but shouldn't there be a little more discrepancy between those who merely played their placement matches and those who played a substantial amount of games? shouldn't there be at least a hard cap on how high can you place right of the bat?

[Suggestion] Change all Obsidian Shard in WvW/PvP reward track to Mystic Coin or Mystic Clover. Or at least some of them.

Reason : Obsidian Shard is almost have no value now since it is so much easy to get in other way. ( SW chest train, exchange store in 4 newest maps and other currency exchange such as karma, Lauriel)

I haven't been going through the easiest of times lately, (daddy issues) and so I decided to pick up the game. I stopped playing around the time P/P thief was in PvP, so within a week I got bored again.

Then yesterday it all changed. I read that thread about someone asking about thief builds, and how S/P is good. It's so much more than good, its so much fucking fun! I legit have been playing for hours non-stop now! (Winter break ftw). I had even signed up for Secret Santa, and farmed for a few hours to get enough gold to gift my secret santa buddy a skin and boy did clicking that send button feel good :3

The overwhelming positivity in this community is surreal, and I just wanted to say thanks!

Idea for a new Guild Challenge mission: repeat the Guild Hall Claim event

Hello,

I have very fond memories of one-time mission: guild hall claiming. I'm sad that I can't experience the thrill it brought to my guild and the cheers that followed once we claimed our guild hall. Wouldn't it be great to recycle this event and use it as Guild mission challenge? Anet could add an NPC that starts that mission inside guild hall.

There are several problems though. The very first one that comes to mind is - guild decorations that could break the event and mobs somehow. In that case Anet could spawn a different instance of guild hall that has no decorations.

New mini foostivoo the merry recipe

Last year you could craft foostivoo using 3 mini snowmen that started dropping from presents. This year they added mini festive golems to the present drop list and you can do it with 3 of them too. This new way is considerably cheaper, and who doesn't want a quaggan with a santa hat?

Is it worth to start play as f2p with my friends ?

Hello, me and my 2 friends are looking for new MMO and we really started to like Guild Wars 2 but we don't know if it's worth to fully get into GW2 without buying expansion since it's kinda expensive for us... We want to expierence PVE and PVP but all those f2p limitations sounds really weird and we don'T know anyone who plays it to answer us...

since no one duoed him yet(as far as we know) we wanted to try him. We started with double Tempest but since he teleports so much and we cant really CC him we swapped to Necro since they have everything you need for the fight.

Secret Toymaker 2016 matches are live!

The sign-up time has ended and time for gifts is now upon us!

How to gift

Get your API key, the same one you registered with, and head to the [match-page]. If you have the right key it will display the person you will be gifting and their notes of what could be a good present for them.

Next step is hard for some, it is to figure out what to gift the match. Reminder, the minimum price on the trading post should be 10 gold and should fit to one mail (no 20 stacks of coal, but you send more than one mail if you have real things to give).

When you receive your gift remember to reply to it and thank the person gifting you!

You have until the 0:00 UTC on 5th of January to send your gift.

More gifts?

As with few other things we wanted, we don't at the moment have a system to automatically give you more people to gift so for now you can send an email to gw2secrettoymaker+more@gmail.com, or PM to one of our social media accounts, with your API key (so I can check you do have a Guild Wars 2 account that can gift) and how many you would like to gift? This will be done manually so it might take some time to get a reply, but we'll check them at least once a day. This option will be available till New Year's eve and you don't need to be signed up for the main event to take part, but don't expect to get a gift unless the person you will be gifting happens give one in return.

Spirit of the event

There seem to be some, different ideas on how to deal with unreasonable notes, but even if you are been given one just give them something nice. Some people struggle to come up with good ideas on what to give as a note and shouldn't be punished for it. Also giving a bad gift is a good way to get yourself on the blacklist

If you don't get a gift by the deadline, January 5th, send a mail to gw2secrettoymaker+nogift@gmail.com with your account name and we'll look into it BUT don't send us mail before the deadline. There are people who are not able to send out gifts till 2017, so don't panic.

Just had a cheater in my team (PvP)

It all started from enemy eles telling the engineer in my team used to teleport from a very long distance ( kinda the same of mesm portal, with no mesm in team tho) . So i started to keep an eye on him and it was true, he truly ported from far to mid just while i was watching ( i was dead so i could pay attention carefully). Please Anet check him , i noted his account name.

[Discussion] Should the PvP penalties for idle be harsher?

I would like your opinion:

3 minutes after the match begins, someone just gives up, says "fuck this" and just waits for the match to be over without doing anything.

This can be reported as "Idle" and maybe as "Match manipulation" as well.

Usually, these salty guys are the ones who are not good, and instead of blaming themselves, they blame their team. The problem is that they completely ruin the game for you.

I am thinking: Should someone that does this (and there's proof) be banned for the whole ranked season? How many games do they need to ruin for other people, before something is done? Another suggestion would be to send them to gulag in Siberia just kidding ,or am I?.

The players need to know that it's NOT OK to do it and that there should be consequences if they do.

The only problem I can think of, is if someone is wrongly accused.

Should the penalties be harsher?

Now, a small rant follows. You can stop reading if you want to:

At the beginning of the season, I didn't do that well and now I'm in silver. I don't have a problem about it, because it's my fault (I used to be better. No pro, but decent). The only problem that I have, is that in silver you come across people that did better when the system was easier to reach higher divisions. These guys tend to be really toxic and salty.

We were losing, but the game wasn't decided yet. That mesmer decided to just stop playing. When I talked to him about it, he said of how noobs we are and that he has the legendary wings and that he is a pro. I said that it doesn't matter that he has the wings. I asked what is his division now, he answered legendary... suuuure and I am the queen of UK. Giving up so easily doesn't make you reach legendary.

This is a game and we are supposed to have fun by playing it. These guys don't have fun and ruin it for the rest.

Edit: A suggestion by /u/MithranArkanere : If someone goes inactive or AFK for more than 1 minute, or gets reported by all other players for non-participation/match manipulation they should get kicked from the match, the match would get paused, and a new player would be fished from those queued for matches. They'll get a message asking them if they want to volunteer to join an ongoing match, and get bonus PvP rank (PvP exp, not rating) and PvP reward track, and a reduction in rating lost if they lose the match.

I play since the first beta, years ago on Gw1. I did it with some friends but now, they wont play more, since 3 month back. I tried to fit on others guilds but I cant, I feel like a hand in a shoe. An issue with my GF's F2P account

I finally convinced my girlfriend to try Guild Wars 2 on a free account. She's been having fun in the starter areas so far, but I haven't been able to play with her. I could not send her mail (even without items), and she could not add me to friend list despite me being able to add her. In addition, she always appears as offline on my game, while on hers, she is unable to change the offline status setting above the friend list. Has anybody else experienced this? At first I thought she was being limited because of the free account, but it seems like other free players don't have this many problems. Any advice?
