Posted: 24 Dec 2016 09:09 AM PST This isn't meant to be a rant of any kind, but rather just a question if anyone has any insights. I once played a game where someone was blantantly using an aimbot, completely messing up the game, and naturally everyone was pissed. Amidst the flaming chaos, I asked - why would you do something like this? The response was more or less like this: the aimbotter had built the aimbot himself, and was using it like a badge of honor. He was proud of this monster he had built, and didn't care that he was ruining the game for others. He took everyone else's frustrations and anger as things that fueled his pride, and gave no concern to other player's enjoyment of the game. Any kind of cheating in an online game is deplorable, but each time we don't think much into it other than that they are being jerks... so questions: 1) Has anyone ever been on either side of these situations that could explain this train of thought? 2) Could a better way to deal with cheaters be to not give them the attention, instead of lashing out and giving them the satisfaction? 3) Do you have a favorite way of dealing with cheaters outside of the usual? Multiple games using the same map? Posted: 24 Dec 2016 11:07 AM PST Have you ever played games that share portions of the same explorable space? After I watched the The Flash video on another subreddit, I got to thinking that a single city map might be useful to a multi-studio project a la Marvel's cinematic universe, but for games. This MGU is one idea I'd like to brainstorm about. Example games:
I wouldn't include something like Skyrim or Oblivion even though they have a sort of lore geography that is represented in Daggerfall, I think. Although that is an interesting subject, too, I mean to keep the scope limited to games that literally have you traversing the same gamespace which may or may not be modified in some way. Randomness in turn based RPG combat Posted: 24 Dec 2016 10:35 AM PST I've been thinking about the role of RNG in turned based RPG combat, especially in games with character permadeath like X-Com or Darkest Dungeon, and I'm not sure whether I like it or not. I'm specifically targeting turn based combat in this discussion because it lacks the need for dexterity skills and the outcome for each action (miss, hit, crit) is solely based on a hidden dice roll. In games like these, risk management is a necessary skill, but no matter how high your risk management skill is, you will inevitably be hit with a bad outcome. And if that bad outcome results in the permanent loss of a character, it hurts even more. Conversely, if the player obtains an unexpectedly good outcome, then the player enjoyment goes up. But how vital is this randomness to a good game experience? Would a battle system lacking RNG still be enjoyable or would it be boring? If every attack always hit and hit for the same damage, would players still have more or less fun? What would such a non-random game need to make up for this missing system? Thoughts? 120$ to spend on gaming device? Posted: 24 Dec 2016 08:42 PM PST Hi Guys, My problem is: Looking for some device to play games in bedroom or even travelling by plane/bus. Please keep in mind I like old games, those retro-style and indie games. I love to play Homm3, Doom (and some mods using openGL like Brutal Doom), Fallout2 or Terraria. Recently: I do this using my old laptop Toshiba Equium p200 and also I record some gameplays for yt. I had an old lenovo s5000 tablet but my son broke it (we were play terraria, minecraft and Hearthstone there) I have only 120$(100£ I am living in UK) and I believe it is not enough to replace my old laptop(which is a plan for the future). It will be nice to have a possibillity of recording gameplay (for example: if you advice me an android device or windows 10) by using of some software or display gameplay on my old laptop and capture it there, but it is not a must. What will be the best solution? Gaming Tablet? Windows 10? (Can it allows to play an older windows games I normally play on win7 on my laptop?) Android? Or: am I able to get something(sec hand) better than my Toshiba Equium p200 for 120$/£100? Thanks for your general advice and a spec one (like names of recommended device) :) [link] [comments] |
Hyperdimension Neptunia is a joke. Posted: 24 Dec 2016 05:04 PM PST In order to make a plan for an area that has items i need, I need to first unlock another dungeon that requires me to grind for a hidden item that randomizes each time I reenter the area. Once I unlocked the plan for the dungeon i have to grind in other places so the dungeon can actually exist. I'm doing all this so I can hear characters get sidetracked from the actual plot to about unfunny shit "OMG They broke the forth wall again LOL". Oh and pudding. This is ridiculous [link] [comments] |
