Regarding Grand Finals being full Eastern
Besides the
intense happiness and circlejerking fuelled by patriotism, there is recognition that the grand finals may not sport the same level of spectator entertainment compared to having
Na'Vi or
Alliance in it.
Na'Vi and
Alliance both have very large followings in the chinese scene -
Dendi and
Loda are extremely popular amongst the
chinese and many players respect
Alliance's superb map awareness and
Na'Vi's unpredictable drafting. Nonetheless, both
VG and
NewBee are very well-respected in the chinese scene and it is a very anticipated matchup.
Regarding DK getting ousted
Extremely similar reactions to the english scene, many were sad to see
DK go but cannot deny the fact that
DK has severely underperformed - with most criticism centered around
BurNing's slew of mistakes across the games. Fans are also constantly expressing their undying support to
DK's players and begging them to stay together for another run.
Similarly,
DK fans pinned their hopes on rOtk (known affectionately as the Roaring-god, famous for his tendency to be extremely verbose when playing) to carry the will of
BurNing to the championships.
Regarding EG getting eliminated by VG
Individual criticism aside, the general consensus is that the Western teams underestimated the "pace" of Chinese dota, leading to their defeat.
A bit of explanation may be needed on this: the chinese perspective towards the "5man deathball" strat is that its strength lies in the ability to dictate the pace of the game, or "momentum". It is not necessary to pick hard pushers, rather the strategy revolves around high impact toolkits offered by heroes such as
Shadow Shaman,
Dragon Knight,
Doom,
Brewmaster. Essentially by building on early game momentum, you can abuse your team's draft advantage to take control of the game's flow by forcing enemy rotations and forcing favorable fights. If you can force unfavorable reactions from the opponent you have effectively "taken control" of their pace. One direct way of achieving this is by taking early initiative in rotations and throwing the game into an extremely fast pace of sieging ala
VG style. Obviously this strat also has its
drawbacks and weaknesses as demonstrated by
NewBee. The general opinion is that Western teams may still harbor the notion that Chinese teams still lean heavily towards a safe, stable meta, which is why they didn't adapt well towards the fast "pace" of
VG /
NewBee .
Regarding the short games in the Grand Finals
2 main sides to forum opinion - those that dislike it (thinking it would be more professional to play to the end), and those who liked it (thinking it's pointless to drag out a lost match, particularly when both teams have practiced against each other many times).
Regarding the drafts in the Grand Finals
Poor drafting by
VG - especially their choice of cores, however credit was given to
NewBee's huge hero pool that was difficult to outdraft(almost every player on
NewBee has at least 6-7 highly competent
heroes)
Bonus: The shitposting that the chinese also revel in! Translated off recent post list.
On the Grand Final drafts: "
Nature's Prophet draft = autolose, f--king learn" , "too many squishies on team? Need lockdown? BETTER PICK
Venomancer AMIRITE"
On the #productionvalue "Wow, cussing on the camera, real professional guys" (in response to
NewBee players saying "fucking fucking awesome" in mandarin when asked about their initial feelings)
And a flood of "shoutout to the winners of The International 4"
Not that much different eh?
