Rocket League Community Spotlight: Practice Makes Perfect

Community Spotlight: Practice Makes Perfect

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 09:56 AM PST

We're only two full months into 2018 and Rocket League is just starting to heat up! The Rival Series Play-In[www.rocketleague.com] is right around the corner and we recently gave all of you a sneak peek of what's to come in our Spring Roadmap[www.rocketleague.com], which means now's the time to ramp up your practice regimen! With this in mind, we have the materials you need to prepare for the action in this month's Community Spotlight, so buckle up and hit 'Ready' because we've got a brand new list of Featured Custom Training packs coming your way!

Custom Training

In this month's 'Featured' tab, we've included an abundance of Custom Training codes so that no matter what your skill level, you will have something new to try. If you're a beginner, start by practicing air rolls followed by backboard shots or even aerial dribbles! If you fancy yourself more experienced behind the wheel, aim for the higher difficulty packs so that you can refine your abilities on the ground and in the air. But don't let the ranks deter you, because no matter how difficult the shots are, there's always something to learn from your attempts to incorporate into your play style.

From power shots to goalie training to air drags, you will have plenty of packs to refresh your skills -- and maybe learn some new skills while you're at it!

Rocket League WWE Items Coming to Rocket League this Spring

WWE Items Coming to Rocket League this Spring

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 10:15 AM PST

WWE and Rocket League are forming one of the greatest partnership teams in Soccar history once again!

Throughout 2018, you can expect to see Rocket League all over the WWE universe, from regular appearances on UpUpDownDown, WWE's YouTube gaming channel (that has more than 1.4 million subscribers) with Austin Creed a.k.a. WWE Superstar Xavier Woods to sponsorships at live WWE events -- you may have even seen us on Elimination Chamber just last night! We're also very excited to be a partner of WrestleMania 34, where we'll have Rocket League playable for attendees at one of the biggest sports and entertainment events in the world in New Orleans the weekend of April 8!

Along with regular appearances at WWE events, we will also bring WWE into Rocket League later this year! We'll have more info regarding what in-game customization items we'll be offering in April, but we believe WWE fans will be happy all year long.

See you soon!

Rocket League Tournaments Beta on Steam: What You Need to Know

Tournaments Beta on Steam: What You Need to Know

Posted: 21 Feb 2018 09:54 AM PST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pESqfUKaBb8

We can't wait for you all to check out our Tournaments Beta[www.rocketleague.com] on Steam this week. Before you hop into Rocket League's 'February Madness,' however, we have some additional details and tips for you to keep in mind while enjoying the new feature.

We will be gathering feedback on the /r/RocketLeague subreddit all throughout the beta -- please drop by and let us know about any issues that you run into. You can also use #RLTournamentsBeta on Twitter to talk about your experience in the beta, call out issues, and more!

Reminder: This Tournaments Beta is only available on Steam. Players on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will not be able to access the Tournaments Beta.

Beta start time: Wednesday February 21 (today!), 10am PST (1pm EST/7pm CET)
Beta end time: Friday February 23, 5pm PST (8pm EST/2am CET on February 24)

How to Access the Beta
  • Go to your Steam Library on your computer and right-click Rocket League
  • Choose 'Properties,'
  • Click the 'BETAS' tab in the pop-up window
  • Select 'Tournaments Beta' from the drop-down list
  • After closing the pop-up window, your Steam client will update Rocket League to the beta.
  • If you don't see the Tournaments Beta option under the 'BETAS' tab at the start time, try restarting Steam or your PC after the beta begins.
Note: If you want to disable the beta, go back to the 'BETAS' tab, and select 'NONE - Opt out of the beta program,' and Steam will then update Rocket League back to your normal 'live' version of the game.

'Beta' Rocket League vs 'Live' Rocket League
As you're hopping into your first tournament, remember that the Tournaments Beta has limited functionality outside of the new Tournaments feature compared to the 'live' version of Rocket League that you normally play on PC. Some of the differences and limitations you should keep in mind are:
  • The Tournaments Beta has no online matchmaking outside of the Tournaments environment
  • You cannot trade with other players, trade up items, or use Crates and Keys in the Tournaments Beta build
  • You will have access to most of your item inventory, but some newer items (e.g.: some items from the Velocity Crate) may not appear. This is normal, and those items are still in your inventory in the 'live' version of Rocket League
  • Some of your settings may not carry over to the Tournaments Beta
  • You may see a preview of some new content or features (like expanded color options) in the Tournaments Beta
If you plan on switching back and forth between 'Live" Rocket League and the Tournaments Beta, you may want to backup your save data files just in case. You can do this by going to the following folders:
  • Windows
    • Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\SaveData\DBE_Production
  • macOS:
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Rocket League/TAGame/SaveData/DBE_Production/
  • SteamOS/Linux:
    • ~/.local/share/Rocket League/TAGame/SaveData/DBE_Production/
Tournaments Beta Known Issues
Like any test, you may encounter some quirks and stability issues during the Tournaments Beta. Some of these include…
  • Crashing if you leave a Tournament early before your series of matches has concluded
  • Occasional crash when you leave a tournament
  • You can run 'Hoops' tournaments, but there may be stability issues throughout
  • Tournament messaging appearing after you 'Unsubscribe' from a Tournament
  • Audio bugs when entering a match or training
  • Issues when multiple party members try to join a tournament at once
  • Join match loops if a user or split-screen user are removed from a tournament team
  • Third-party mods/programs may cause the Tournaments Beta to crash
Last but not least? Thank you to our Steam community for helping us test the Tournaments system, and have fun!

Our latest licensed premium DLC is bringing a league of your favorite superheroes to the Rocket League universe! The DC Super Heroes DLC Pack[www.rocketleague.com] comes with TWO of your favorite Gotham City rides -- the classic '89 Batmobile AND the roof-cruising The Dark Knight Rises Tumbler made famous in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

But we're bringing more than just the Batmobiles to the game with this DLC pack, so check out the full list of included customization items (sorted by hero) below!
  • Aquaman -- Decal (Breakout), and Player Banner
  • Batman -- Decal (Paladin), and Player Banner
  • Cyborg -- Decal (Roadhog), and Player Banner

  • DC Comics -- Player Banner
The DC Super Heroes DLC Pack arrives on March 5 for USD $3.99 or regional equivalent. The DLC requires a copy of Rocket League to use and game is sold separately, so make sure you have what you need before you pick the new pack up!

NOTE: If three of these items look familiar, The Flash Wheels, Player Banner, and DC Comics Player Banner were previously available in the re-released "Collector's Edition" of Rocket League distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive earlier this year.

Let us know which DC hero you're most excited to represent on Twitter, Facebook, and our subreddit!

Community Spotlight: Back to Basics

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:25 PM PST

In a month packed with Rocket League history, we saw the first-ever player to claim back-to-back RLCS World Championships (that would be Turbopolsa, btw, congratulations to him!) and our official release on Nintendo Switch! While our last Community Spotlight[www.rocketleague.com] put Rocket League pro players center-stage, we're shifting gears this month to focus on giving new Rocket League players, particularly those playing on the Switch, a solid 'Custom Training' foundation for practice.

CUSTOM TRAINING

Just in time for the holiday season, Nintendo Switch owners got their hands on Rocket League for the first time earlier this month. While there will be some familiar faces playing on the Switch, we want to offer the true Rookies out there a top-tier list of community-sourced 'Custom Training' packs consisting of ground shots, wall shots, goalie packs and even aerial shots. New players can practice using this 'Custom Training' list to get a head-start against the Switch competition, while experienced players coming over from other platforms can use the new packs to hone their skills on the new hardware.

Rocket League Incoming: Adjustments to Competitive Matchmaking Bans

Incoming: Adjustments to Competitive Matchmaking Bans
Posted: 20 Nov 2017 10:37 AM PST

Nothing beats the thrill of Competitive play in Rocket League! Whether you're putting in the time to hit your Rank goal, grinding out Season Reward Level wins[www.rocketleague.com], or jumping into high-level play for the first time[www.rocketleague.com], you always want a fair experience going into a Competitive match -- and so do we!

Starting today, we're making some changes to the competitive matchmaking ban system. The goal of these changes is to discourage players from disconnecting from Competitive Playlist matches early; nobody likes to lose, but it's always important to finish out a match if a forfeit vote fails, no matter what side of the score you're on.

Currently, players who leave Competitive matches early are subject to a 15-minute ban from Competitive Playlists. Our new system will have seven ban levels, starting with a new, shorter five-minute ban at Level 1. See below for the full breakdown.
  • Level 1: 5 Minutes
  • Level 2: 10 Minutes
  • Level 3: 20 Minutes
  • Level 4: 40 Minutes
  • Level 5: 60 Minutes
  • Level 6: 120 Minutes
  • Level 7: 24 Hours
Once a ban expires you will stay at that ban level for 12 hours, but if you leave another Competitive Playlist match during the same window, you will go up one level. If you don't leave any Competitive matches early during the same 12-hour window, you will go down one level, eventually going back down to Level 0. You'll still see the same kind of notifications with the new system, so active bans will appear at the bottom of the Playlist window.

If you reach Level 7 (Wow!) and consistently leave Competitive matches before a match concludes, we may take additional actions against your account, including timed or permanent bans from all online matches.

We hope these changes will cut down on the number of players who duck out of Competitive matches early. Who knows, by sticking around until the timer hits 0:00 instead of making for the Main Menu, you might just get a few Reddit-worthy comeback wins under your belt.
