All Mythics bosses explained like you are 5

DISCLAIMER

With World Quests, BOEs, heroic dungeon gear, it's pretty easy to find players that have a decent 335+ ilvl gear but still dont know anything about a lot of Mythic bosses. This is not about M+, i wrote this for people that want to do M0s in public groups, so they have a general base of information about what a boss vaguely does, while keeping the "guide" as simple as possible. There is a lot of more detailed information on the internet about it if you wanna get into the details. If you see something blatantly wrong please specify it I will edit the post (still learning).

  • Atal'Dazar

Priestess Alun'za

Prevent Spirits to absorb blood pools, when she casts Transfusion run into a blood pool so you get tainted, purge / steal Gilded Claws.

Vol'Kaal

Kill all 3 totems around the same time otherwise they'll go back to full hp. Don't stand on green poo. Interrupt his poison cast (called Noxious Stench, thanks u/peenda).

Rezan

Don't walk into the piles of bones, hide behind a wall when he screams, if he runs after you to Devour you, run away, preferably dont make him run into a pile of bone.

Yazma

Interrupt her if you can, dont run into spiders, when you have big purple arrow above your head, run away from boss and (slow/stun)kill the Shadow image that spawns at your location.

  • Freehold

Skycap'n Kragg

Spread from your party members, kick his healing spell. When he dismounts from his bird, the bird will come back from the edge of the arena and charge through. Try to avoid this bird.

Council o' Captains

When friendly has big barrel on his head, kill barrel, don't stand in AOE.

Ring of Booty

Catch pig, avoid turtle shurikens, when the sharknado guy throws sharks, you can kite them into the blood puddles, slowing them significantly (thanks u/boysapunk). Don't go melee range of boss when he does big tornado around him

Harlan Sweete

Don't stand in big orange bombardment, dodge stuff thrown at you. Kill the bomb add or it will chase someone and blow up (thanks u/Talehon).

  • King's Rest

The Golden Serpent

When you have orange DOT on yourself go away from boss it will make a pool appear beneath you at the end of the DOT, try to stack those pools at the same place, important cause thats where the adds will come from, don't let adds reach boss, use your slows and stuns, dont stay melee range when boss is doing tornado around him

Mchbimba the Embalmer

Spread out so eveyrone is in decently close to a crypt, dont stand in big fire, when he entomb someone watch the crypts, if the crypt is shaking and making noise click on it.

The Council of Tribes

Avoid big flying axes, when he starts charging someone, go stand inbetween boss and guy whos being charged, kill totems (explosive totem first), interrupt Poison Nova.

Dazar, the First King

Avoid tornado, spread out so you don't get damaged when he jumps on someone. When stuff starts falling on the ground go counter clock wise fast so you go past it, dont try to outrun it, go the other way.

  • Shrine of the Storm

Aqu'Sirr

Dont stand near edges, you don't wanna get knocked back and die, avoid his charge, avoid blue aoe on the ground. When he splits into 3 water elementals, try to focus fire them one by one, dont spread DPS.

Tidesage Council

Interrupt the woman as much as you can,. If you're tank and the male boss becomes very big either pop defensive CD or kite him so he doesnt hit you. They will make circles appear on the ground : one give lots of haste, other one gives lots of damage reduction when you stand in those. Go stand in those accordingly.

Lord Stormsong

Are you being Mind controlled by the boss ? If yes, go walk in dark orbs that are chasing your friends. If not, don't go walk in dark orbs that are chasing you.

Vol'zith the Whisperer

If ground is all black go away from it. Use the bonus damage / heal from the thing he casts on you to get through the phase where you're separated from team, then dispel it. Separated phase : Tank kite slow mob / heal dps slow mob / DPS interrupt tentacle mobs. Don't let adds reach boss but don't kill all adds at the same time because when they die they do damage to everyone.

  • Siege of Boralus

Sergeant Bainbridge

Don't walk in bombs on the ground. If the boss is chasing after you, make him run through bombs on ground.

Dread Captain Lockwood

On the ground there will be big circles appearing. Don't stay on those circles. Pick up the thing left on the floor and use it to force boss back. Keep her slow / root at all times or she will House of Pain - Jump Around.

Hadal Darkfathom

When big waves appear, hide behind the big statue in the middle of the room. Don't walk on the ice.

Viq'Goth

If you're tank always go melee range of Demolishing tentacle (kill this one first as specified by u/sindeloke). Then help the dwarf get out of his personal anime episode by killing tentacles grabbing him. If you have dot on you go away from friends so you can get dispelled without feeding your friends to sharks.

  • Temple of Sethraliss

Adderis and Aspix

Hit the one that doesnt have Lightning Shield (it will change so be careful), if you have electricity debuff on you go away from friends, spread out when he is doing ninja electricity charge.

Merektha

Don't stand in green poo, turn your character 180 degrees when he's about to blind you, kill serpents that are imprisoning your friends (or stun the serpent sack, it will remove it, thanks for the heads up u/ElementaryMyDearWut), when he is burrowed avoid him.

Galvazzt

Pillars will appear. Go stand between boss and pillar so he doesnt gain energy. This will stack a debuff on you. If you have more than 10 stacks stop standing between him and pillars and/or use defensive CD to remove stacks (iceblock, maybe cloak for rogue not sure about that).

Avatar of Sethraliss

Dont click on green orb before everything is dead. Kill heart guardian, interrupt Plague doctor, don't stand in blue light on the ground. If Healer, don't touch frogs they will lower your heals (thanks u/Redruddc)

  • The MOTHERLODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coin-Operated Crowd Pummeler

When he drops grenades on the floor, go throw those back at him. You need to be facing him while in front of the grenade. When he turns facing you and starts canalizing a spell, move so you're on his side or back.

Azerokk

Use totems to CC 2 elementals before the fight. If you have big red eyes on you run away from elementals. When they become very shiny they take 150% more damage but they also hit harder, so kill them with range. Don't stand near the boss.

Rixxa Fluxflame

She will throw azerite on the ground. You want to be standing in between the boss and the azerite. She will then push you away, avoid it by going sideways. (thanks to u/Antisceptic)

Mogul Razdunk

If big north korean missile is running to you, go away from your friends. If you have a big red arrow on your head, go near a big rocket.

  • The Underrot

Elder Leaxa

I'm sure there is something this boss does apart from dying fast, but I havent found it yet.

Cragmaw the Infested

Go away from the direction he's facing when he's charging. Go step on red things on ground so it doesnt spawn little adds that will stack a nasty dot on you.

Sporecaller Zancha

He will spawn green shrooms around him. When you have a big arrow above your head, go stand near those shrooms (but not IN it). If you're the tank, make him face a big chunk of shrooms and bring him quite close to it so when he cast shockwave he will clean those shrooms. If you clean enough shrooms you wont die when he makes them explode.

Unbound Abomination

He is immune to damage but that doesnt mean you dont have to do damage to him. Just dps him. Don't stand on grey poo on the ground. When you or someone in your party has a big yellow circle around him, go stand in it. Use the big yellow circle if its around you to cleanse grey poo on the ground (dont stand inside it though, just next to it). When little blood adds spawn, the big titan helping you will stun one. Go kill the other one.

  • Tol'Dagor

The Sand Queen

When you have big arrow on your head, go away from friends. Dont walk into stuff she spawns on the ground. Kill adds quickly.

Jes Howlis

When he starts casting Flashing Daggers go behind a wall. When he runs away follow him and finish him. Use your stuns / slows on adds.

Kingh Captain Valyri

If you have red fire dot on you, dont go near barrels, you will explode them. If you don't have it on you, try to move some barrels so your party has some space to stand when she will make them explode.

Overseer Korgus

When you move, your bar fills up. When your bar is filled up, you are stunned for 10 seconds. Avoid black aoe on the ground. Cannons on the side will charge a shot, don't go in front of it. Move away from allies when you have the orange circle on you so circle doesnt reach them.

  • Waycrest Manor

Heartsbane Triad

One of the 3 bosses will be bigger than the others. Do damage to this one. Then it will change. So change target, you need to hit the one that is bigger than the others always. Keep moving when you have shadow dot on you to avoid stacking it.

Soulbound Goliath

When he imprisons one of your friends kill the thing. Don't stand on the fire. If you're a tank, when boss reaches high stacks you might wanna pop defensive CDs or kite him. If you kite him, make him walk into the fire on the ground.

Raal the Gluttonous

Stand on his side. Slow the servants trying to reach the boss.

Lord and Lady Waycrest

When she drops the bass, move away from things on ground. When you have dot on you, move away from friends because you will leave a pool of poison on the ground. Don't stand on that.

Gorak Tul

Kill adds before they cast Death Lens. Pick up molotovs to burn their bodies so Gorak can't rez them all at once. (thanks u/TheMostStupidest).

This is not supposed to be a super accurate elite guide, but if you follow those simple guidelines you should be fine in any Mythic0 dungeon

Azerite Gear/Traits Are An Absolutely Shit Feature

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:55 AM PDT

I posted this on the Forums, but I'm pretty sure the actual developers spend more time on here than they do on there, so I'll post it here too.

Azerite Traits Suck.

None of the traits are even remotely numerically balanced, and despite this, we have no control over which traits we use. We essentially have to pray for the right pieces to drop, and if they don't our performance suffers DRAMATICALLY. Some of these traits offer power gains so far out from everything else that the people that DO get them are massively more powerful than everyone who doesn't.

And that's not even to mention the fact that it muddys the waters of what's good and what isn't, causing us to rely even more on simulations to determine whether the gear we obtain is good at all. Considering that Blizzard squashed the hell out of secondary stats - destroying part of the game's role playing aspect and build management aspect in the process - to make item level a better indicator of gear's strength, makes this even worse. Why sabotage secondary stats, making many classes slow as hell in the process because they have essentially no haste, etc, if Azerite Traits are going to be so unbalanced that item level is essentially irrelevant?

Then, moving balance and convienence out of the way, why are so many of these traits so boring and unfulfilling? Very few modify my gameplay in any way whatsoever - most of them are just buffs to my basic rotation, and the ones that DO modify my rotation are usually the weaker traits! How can you justify replacing both the Legendary system and Tier Sets with this stuff, when it's so unfulfilling and so boring in comparison? (Also, I find it funny that everyone says "Legendaries were fine, it was the acquisition method that sucks, considering that's pretty much the only part they carried forward. Azerite gear acquisition is entirely random.) And no, this isn't "subjective", because I severely doubt ANYONE cares about "oh wow! i got a little bit of mastery (a stat that might actually be compeltely useless to you) when I did my rotation properly!"

This entire system feels half-baked, just like many pieces of this expansion do. The entire thing was rushed to market before it was ready. Class design is an abomination for half the specs in the game, 70% if not more of the Azerite Traits are abysmal and make the gear they're on useless, secondary stats have been crushed making character progression feel utterly boring and pointless. When raids launch, and people realize the gear that drops is actually a downgrade compared to the gear they're wearing right now, we're going to have a really, really bad situation on our hands. And yeah, you can get pieces from your Mythic+ cache, but that's also completely random and you have no control over whether you'll get a dead piece of loot or a decent one.

I cannot see this expansion being looked at favourably if this system isn't dramatically overhauled, and soon.

You're allowed to enjoy the game.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:53 AM PDT

TL;DR: World of Warcraft is a game, and you're allowed to enjoy it. You don't need to be jaded or forced to do it one way or another, and if you aren't enjoying the game either change the way you play it so you can enjoy it or move on. Don't make it a time-sink if you aren't enjoying the fucking time-sink.

This isn't an attack on some people on this Subreddit - or anyone that enjoys the play-style of min-maxing. This is a MMO afterall and the beauty is that you can play it anyway you want and how you want... but I want to just give a rant I suppose mixed with a story about the health of enjoying World of Warcraft.

I have someone added on my friends list who's essentially an old friend of mine. Met during late Cata, been good friends with them... but there's always one big problem.

Whenever a massive expansion comes out, they rush to max level and gear as fast as possible, and always complains throughout the first leg of the expansion - and usually it carry's to the end of it as well.

They power to the new cap, they max out their gear the best way they can, and they prepare for raiding and then DO that raid the day it comes out. They go as hard as they can until they're holding all this godly gear that no one can match. Now, you're probably saying 'okay, what's the problem, is this a playstyle and you're allowed to do this'.

You're correct, expect you aren't allowed to bitch if you don't embrace what Blizzard gives you and you ignore 80% of it.

After BfA came out, they hit 120 in day one with a leveling group, they started doing heroics and mythics, and they began to bitch. At me, in broadcasts, in their guild they're in. 'There's nothing to do', 'How is this game so bad', 'There's no heart in WoW anymore'.

No, there is heart in WoW, there IS stuff to do, and while there are problems with BfA [Every expansion has problems, and none of them are perfect] it's fitting it's theme well. There is a heart to the story - which you properly ignored and didn't care about to rush to 120 - that you genuinely don't care about because you lost all interest in the game. There is content to do; be it the Rep grind or the World Quests or the heroic and mythic achievements, but it just doesn't fit your idea of a perfect WoW because you lost what it means to enjoy WoW.

You rush to 120, you get the best gear, but you are sick of WoW as a game and have grown bitter toward it, but you want it to fill a void. If you're not enjoying WoW, stop playing, if you only play because it's something you look forward too for the rush of the first week, you should genuinely move on or take a year break.

A lot of people tend to forget that World of Warcraft is a video game - one that has taken hold of the hearts of it's community and created something special. BUT IT IS STILL a video game, and it is still just that - a form of enjoyment. Don't let it infect and fester you as a person in attitude and mindset towards it, don't let the drive to be best take you over to a point where you don't enjoy. Just play the game the way you want it and enjoy it the way you want it, and if you aren't enjoying it that way then maybe it's time you moved on.

I pretty much told them this as I was getting sick and tired of seeing them spam the broadcast and they explained that WoW isn't as enjoyable as it was before; which is why I told them to pretty much take a break or stop playing, because spending a week on WoW hating yourself and the game your playing isn't healthy, and pretty much is a straight waste of time.

WoW has captured a lot of our hearts over the years and has been a staple in enjoyment. There's nothing like seeing a reveal trailer for a new expansion or taking off work for a day or two to explore the World of Warcraft, but it's not healthy to genuinely keep going if you aren't having fun.

Edit: A lot of people are taking this post as an attack to them or the way that type of playstyle - WHICH I STATED was not the purpose. The only reason for this post was just to rant and explain to people that the game is meant to be enjoyed no matter what you do. Either it be by having fun going as far as you can and being #1 on the charts on your server or taking a break. Just don't scream and yell when you don't try and experience the game fully for what it is. WoW is a video game, and the point is to have fun, not to be a chore and sink your time into just because you can. When it gets to the point that it's a chore you should rethink why you used to play World of Warcraft so that you can find enjoyment in the game you once had before.

Phasing has got to be a joke.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:13 AM PDT

I don't exactly know when it got so bad but this is actually ridiculous.

Yesterday I was chilling outside the gates of Stormind in Elwynn Forest as a raid of hordies came. Sure thing, they killed some of us, we killed some of them. They grouped right outside the gates. Due to how phasing works me being at the actual gates and looking through them couldn't see the horde raid, even though they were literally 30 yards infront of me. As soon as I stepped from the gates they just appear.

Couple of hours after we are still chilling at same spot, outside the gates and dueling. I've met a few people I'm talking to and we all have different duels, observation etc. I quickly say I need to go check my mail. By the time I'm back everyone is gone. The thing is though, they are still there and its just phased me in an empty shard.

Today, a horde raid comes. Same old at the gate and can't see them outside BS. They proceed to go inside Stormwind as our newly made small raid proceeds to follow them. They go in, we go in - they aren't there. Phasing.

A couple of days ago I'm at the same old place dueling. It seemed to be quite that night with only a few people there to duel as well. 10 minutes down the line, randomly we all get phased into a bigger shard where there's 20 times more players.

The list goes on and on. And don't get me started on actual wPvP in BFA where people phase in and out all the bloody time. I don't know what blizzard was thinking when they implemented this mechanic but the fact that nearly 15 years ago you could sit on the gates of Stormwind and observe the horde raid right ahead and now you can't is just mind-boggling.

The Current State of Horde Characters

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:22 AM PDT

So I've seen this float around a bit in comments, but rarely gets any true discussion and I wanted to toss my 2 cents into the arena.

A quick Wowpedia search will give you a list of both Alliance leaders/characters and the Horde equivalents and the difference is immediately visible. Horde has not just a few less than the Alliance, they have WAY less. The biggest note is the Sylvanas is now the only remaining Vanilla Horde leader remaining, with Thrall in limbo and Vol'jin and Cairne receiving deaths ill-befitting of their characters, all of which were the core of 'Thrall's Horde' which many Horde players joined to be a part of. Alliance meanwhile is still toting Anduin, Tyrande, and Mekkatorque (Gnomes, as a Darkspear player NEVER let your leader become relevant or he'll be offed faster than you can blink.)

I believe this deficit is what brings us to the current issue in the Horde narrative where everything is revolving around Sylvanas and everyone not named Nathanos Blightcaller or Gallywix seems either OOC (Rexxar, Lilian Voss) or an absolute pushover (Baine).

The Horde has an issue with keeping their characters, those that are enjoyed are usually shoved into a box and never allowed to see the light of day again or forced to be cannon fodder. There is no growth, no injection of new blood that really keeps the story going. When one is taken there is rarely a clear successor (Saurfang Racial leader tweet, Current Darkspear dilemma).

Someone once described the Horde as being run by the B team and in the Horde war campaign. Oh yeah. High Warlord Cromush hasn't been seen since Cata, Garona isn't even Horde, Lilian is completely out of character, Rexxar is spouting utter nonsense, and Ty'jin is a literal who that sat in Thrallmar and the WoD garrison doling out quests.

While it is nice to see these characters again, they are pretty much shoved aside immediately for an awkward Lilian and Nathanos adventure instead of receiving any development to make them worth anything. We do get a few more Forsaken characters, I happen to like Zelling, but I doubt they will see much love outside of the War Campaign.

The Horde has a number of characters that could be assets if they were pulled out of the timeline and put to use, some of which I will list:

  1. Jorin Deadeye: The son of Kilrogg and current chief of the Bleeding Hollow. Why has this man been neglected for so long? Last seen in MU Nagrand in TBC.
  2. Nazgrel: One of Thrall's advisors. Wears a wolf-hat, what's not to like? Last seen in Undercity in Legion.
  3. Sassy Hardwrench: The Former Executive Assistant to the Goblin PCs and one of their primary questgivers. Last seen in STV in Cata.
  4. Overlord Agmar: One of the Kor'kron leaders and a Halford Wyrmbane's opposite in the IoC battleground. Never appeared during Garrosh's rebellion. Last seen in IoC in WotLK.
  5. High Overlord Volrath: The Troll in charge of Warspear in Ashran. Last seen in Zuldazar in BFA
  6. Jevan Grimtotem: The Grimtotem who chose loyalty to Baine over Magatha, helping the future Tauren leader escape the assassination attempt on his life. Doesn't even have a model in game.
  7. Rehgar Earthfury: Another one of Thrall's advisors and the former owner of Varian Wrynn in his gladiator days. Last seen in the Shaman class hall in Legion
  8. Halduron Brightwing: Current Ranger General of Silvermoon. Last seen in the Hunter class hall in Legion.
  9. Bwemba: One of the few Darkspear of note, she played a fairly large role against the Gurubashi in Cata. Last seen in Zulduzar in BFA.
  10. Helcular: A Forsaken who has past connection with Kel'thuzad. A very powerful necromancer and used to be able to solo the entirety of Southshore. Last seen in Tarren Mill in Legion.
  11. Sunwalker Dezco: A tragic character who has lost everything. One of the best characters written in the current Horde narrative. Last seen in the Paladin Class hall in Legion.
  12. Ji Firepaw: This man gets an honorary place. Make him do something. Anything. I don't care if it's bringing Vulpera into the Horde. ANYTHING. Last seen in Zulduzar in BFA.

These characters, added with those who are already being dusted off like Eitrigg and Cromush not only need to come back in general, but they need to be used. They need to develop to start fleshing out the current lackluster Horde roster. Hopefully that is what the War Campaign is trying to do.

Filling out the roster is still not enough unfortunately. There's the power gap. Jaina, Alleria, Tyrande, and Malfurion are all active to name a few of the powerhouses Alliance-side. All of them are capable of single handedly turning the tide of a battle…which makes them look incompetent when they get beaten by the side that has none of that. This causes the Alliance to feel robbed of their glory when Malfurion catches an axe to the back instead of getting an actual run for his money from a Horde hero and the Horde to feel deprived of the whole honor thing when relying on backstabs and cheap tricks.

Horde seem to only have Sylvanas at the moment. Talanji will eventually join those ranks, but she doesn't quite supress the issue. There needs to be more one man threats on the Horde to make losses easier to stomach to one side and more hoorah moments to the other. No more of this stupid "We didn't prepare for the Blight when invading Undercity" nonsense. Thrall needs to regain his power and show up to the party every now and then. Justify it? Make Jaina kill Aggra. I think all of us could agree losing Aggra is well worth getting a Horde answer to Malfurion back. Rommath and Thalyssra are both prime candidates for magic users that could be promoted from NPC that put up bubbles to magical heavyweights more on Jaina's level. If you want to get crazy have Helcular finally ascend into a Lich. Hell, let's get crazier and bring back some big WC3 names like Kael'thas or Kel'thuzad and give them a real reason to join the Horde. Now THAT would be fun.

If those two aspects are taken care of I believe this silly faction war can be made more enjoyable by both sides. If the either side has to lose a battle, don't make it to stupidity. Make them actually lose to legitimate reasons. Meanwhile if characters are going to continue being killed off then replacements need to be around. We need a healthy cast on both sides and in a faction war we need characters that can actually stand up to each other. At the moment, the Horde lacks those characters and both sides suffer for it.

TL;DR: Blizzard needs to use the Horde narrative to build up the next generation of Horde heroes and raise existing characters to higher power levels to create a more engaging story for both sides.

Edit: Changed Ji and Nazgrel's last seen position to note their most recent apperance in Zulduzar and Undercity respectively.
