Lane Investment, Killing, Waves & Creep aggro in mid Posted: 05 Sep 2018 01:09 PM PDT I have three issues when I mid lately. The first is a strategic question, the second is tactical. Legend 5 bracket. 1) I see some high MMR players (rawdota/henry for example) invest heavily into the lane. At 10min, playing invoker, his inventory can be 2x nulls, wand, aquila, boots, and building drums or having regen/tp in last slot. Do I invest this way only when stomping the lane, do i invest this way when it would ALLOW me to stomp the lane, does stomping the lane mean being 3-0 or is it sufficient to win the CS war and have a two level advantage on the enemy mid? Do i invest this way when losing to recover? What does losing mean,ie do i invest this way when i'm being pushed out of lane by harass/kills? Or just when i'm being out cs'd? 2) Particularly when playing mirror matchups in mid practice, but also in real games, I have a tendency to just hard commit for kills when ahead frequently to throwy results. How do I learn to condition kills better? This is obviously hero matchup specific, but what factors am I looking for? Cooldowns, regen availablity, enemy support TP cds? I often feel like I NEED to get kills on the enemy mid on heros like Storm or QOP. Is it sufficient to outlevel them, take their tower and then gank the midgame, or do I need to be killing my lane opponent to succeed with these heros? 3) Blocking and Creep Aggro Should I even block mid? When i block and the enemy doesnt, all their creeps die under my tower, which is harder to CS at level one, they get one of my creeps under my tower and then three under theirs, and then the wave bounces back and forth for a while. Should i be just running at them once I have 4 creeps alive and they have 3, CS be dammed? I watch players like Noone manipulate creep aggro to get CS, but I feel as though when I aggro for every CS or for reasons other than to draw aggro to my ranged creep, I end up pushing the wave and giving my enemy safer farm. Why do high MMR players aggro back as opposed to just letting the wave push into safety for them? Surely there is a secondary step after triggering aggro for CS that I'm not doing - what is that? Is there a more countered hero than Outworld Devourer? Posted: 04 Sep 2018 11:28 PM PDT Its actually quite ridiculous just how many counters OD has. Apart from the regular stuns and cc that every hero has to deal with, OD is the only hero who is also directly countered the 4 psuedo- disables namely Silence, BKB, Evasion, Disarm. No wonder OD is sitting at an abysmal 39% winrate right now [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2018 04:19 AM PDT Hello everyone, I have decided to learn Earthshaker and I am analysing top players so far. He is a great support in pubs, scales well into late game, can adapt to most metas. But I have very seldom played this hero in the past, so I am looking for your thoughts:
The way I saw "very good" players build: Q>W>E as 3/4, and then max E - if early ganks/map control/ towers fail, you simply can't farm without E maxed (or atleast 3 levels in it). The considerable difference is FY - he always maxes Q with 1 lvl in E (q>w>e> then max Q>E>W in that order). But I don't know if FY is the prime example in this current meta, he seriously roams a LOT - therefore maxing Q (4-1-1-1) is only wise when you will do these things a lot. I see cr1t going the standard q>w>e then maxing E>Q>W, with a possible bonus level in Q, but never more than 2 (sometimes he goes qweqree, probably in a more active game). Getting ult at 6,12,18 is obvious and shouldn't be discussed. But I heard Khezu speaking how 3 levels in E is enough. On core shaker (position 3) I see q>w>e then maxing E>W>Q, unless the offlane shaker will roam a LOT, then Q>W>E? I have zero idea how to build mid shaker, but probably even more accent on E for farming purposes? The last build is 2-1-2 (I see synderen doing it), kind of a jack of all trades, master of none one, even going for 3-1-3 often? Again, I am not saying this is the way to build shaker - this is what I have observed from the top players so far - so how do you build shaker for each position/playstyle? (possibly if you answer for 1,2,5 too, though those positions for shaker are bad, 3 being alright and 4 being ideal tbh)
With the stout shield buff, it is possible to get a starting stout vs lanes where he has to trade a lot (VS+venge, trilanes). I see the classic boots first (mostly for roaming with clarities, securing runes at 2:00,4:00 and getting kills with them), and the windlance/mango/tango/clarity build. What are your thoughts on starting items as Earthshaker? Now, mid game and beyond, blink dagger is a no brainer, but when is soulring/aghanim/tranuil or mana boots considered? Other items are kinda obvious, like force staff vs clock/riki/LS and so on...
I see shakers blocking waves for every lane and that being great, but would you ever block the mid lane? If the enemy doesn't block themselves, since most midlaners right now contest runes, then tp, block for a few seconds, that means that you'll (or your mid laner) will be double waved because your tower is hitting the first enemy creep wave, which is rough. In lanes as a 4, I see generally sitting behind the offlaner/carry, trading harass here and there and using opportunities to block an enemy hero in lane with a good fissure, securing 2:00, 4:00 runes and trying kills if the rune is right (haste, invis, DD mostly). Roaming and other stuff aswell, and after the laning stage, mostly being prepared to counter-initiate during a fight while farming the dagger with E (unless the max Q build where there's constant fighting because max Q can't farm well, similar to QW invoker). My biggest question is, when do you start farming jungle camps to get your dagger?
Watching a certain pro player, some website, discussion, whatever - what'd you recommend? Thanks :) [link] [comments] |

What heros should I be playing as a new player? Posted: 04 Sep 2018 11:23 PM PDT New to Dota 2, I've been looking for a moba to play besides League of Legends. I'm a fairly high elo in LoL, as with playing any moba that's been out for a while the huge amount of characters is making it tough to figure out what's worth playing. I've been playing with a friend and his general opinion is that I can play what ever I want because in dota every character is strong. As for my playstyle- in league I usually play brusiers but I've been playing it safe, just supporting a carry- poking when I can and sneaking deep wards. I've been enjoying Winter Wyvern and actually started winning with a positive KDA. Looking online though, it seems she's supposed to be hard to play and I screw up team fights. Any support heros that have a similar playstyle? Edit: There are a lot of comments to reply to, but I've read through all of them, and your advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2018 08:38 PM PDT Please don't say that this is an "easy" matchup that is QoP favored, maybe back when regen was less abundant and the towers were further away and invoker was weaker. Nothing I've tried seems to work, I'm at 800+ games on QoP and I'd like to imagine that I can deal with any hero mid quite easily, but Invoker is the only hero for which there is no "solution". I've tried everything and here's the best summary of what I think works 1) get a good block 2) immediately dagger and throw right clicks 3) get the ranged creep deny 4) do my best to keep the creeps on my high ground for first 3 minutes (hard to impossible considering I'm also trying to harass and he's pulling) 5) max scream after 1 point in dagger at this point it all starts to fall apart, i can't trade with him, dagger is worthless, scream is only good for shoving waves at him to free farm with forge spirits, and he has actual kill potential if i try to play aggressively This matchup used to be an autowin for me and it has become an automatic loss everytime now. Arc warden situatuonal building Posted: 05 Sep 2018 09:56 AM PDT Specifically Midas, but I'll take any advice in general on the hero. If you're a little behind in lane, you could argue a Midas pickup to catch up. If you're ahead, you could get it to keep snowballing. Even so, I see people all the time skipping it for a faster SB. Is it just if you know you need to get active on the map? If you lose mid tower? What helps you make that decision? Source:2.7k player trying to learn arc warden [link] [comments] |
Did they recently change how MMR gets calculated? Posted: 05 Sep 2018 05:47 AM PDT First of all, this is not a complaint thread. I just wanted some info. 6 months ago, I was 3550~ MMR. I stopped playing and I started playing last week and the client requested me to do 10 calibration matches. I won 8/10 games, I ended up with 3.2k mmr. I'll just have to work hard to get back to my old MMR Did they squish everyone's MMRs? [link] [comments] |
My ping sucks boys!(Powerline adaptor advice) Posted: 05 Sep 2018 05:45 AM PDT Alright boys, my battlestation is pretty far from the router, with a good 3-4 walls in between. Routing an ethernet cable would probably need 50m at the minimum. I'm currently using wireless, my ping is 6-7 but spikes to 100-200 randomly. Was thinking of getting a power line adaptor, what speed rating for the adaptor should I get? [link] [comments] |
Theorycrafting Wex Exort invoker Posted: 05 Sep 2018 02:33 AM PDT Hey guys was just looking thru some invoker stuffs and noticed that most people seem to focus on the level 10 +1.25s lift talent as an enabler for meme hammer and/or 5 spell combo I think it's more than that imho.. u can actually go with a 1 4 4 build and get that talent at 10. This enables u to still pull off a full combo at lv10 without any lift time issues as u get a full 2.05s lift with lv 1 quas in return u get become a glass cannon but at the expense of control such as a longer cold snap and lack of hp regen. However u get a 4s disarm duration, which seems pretty good in this meta given that a lot of cores are right clickers and at lv 10 is just about where most cores get an early peak. Can't figure out some itemizations for early game tho anyone good in itemizing able to give some thoughts bout it? [link] [comments] |
Bloodseeker's Bloodrite damage doesn't pierce spell immunity despite being pure damage AOE spell. Posted: 05 Sep 2018 02:06 AM PDT Bloodrite doesn't go through bladefury, repel, bkb etc. Shouldn't it apply the damage without silence debuff if target is spell immune. [link] [comments] |
