/r/leagueoflegends Monthly Meta Discussion - September 2018

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 07:00 AM PDT

Welcome back /r/leagueoflegends - The second Monthly Meta discussion thread is here.

The original one was a bit of a mixed bag so there's going to be a far more structured discussion in this one with a new project.

This thread will be used to discuss, vote in, and suggest any rule change / tweak from our ruleset.

What does this mean?

  • The topics discussed in this thread will be collected, evaluated and discussed by the moderation team based on popularity.

  • Rule changes, additions, or tweaks suggested here that are feasible (For instance, "Change everyone's flair to TSM" is not a very useful suggestion and wouldn't be considered) will go into a full moderation discussion.

  • In the NEXT monthly meta thread, one of the changes the community suggested will be put up for vote for you the community to vote on including into the ruleset. For instance, if you voted for a change to the Short Duration Content rule to allow Videos under 30 seconds to be posted in link form instead of Self post form, that could become a new rule.

  • If the community votes 60% in favour of the new rule, it will be added as a fully enforced rule, and the next meta thread will have the same process repeat.

If this goes well and people take it seriously, this can be a repeating process - We will review the rule and future rules to make sure this is actually good for the subreddit with each version.

Ok, how do I help with this?

  • If you want to to participate, simply take a look at The ruleset and make a suggestion that says exactly what needs to be changed, added, or removed. Try to be as detailed as possible, because a suggestion that says "Remove the relevance rule" isn't entirely helpful and doesn't explain how this is supposed to help.

  • Try to be realistic with the suggestions - We still can't break reddit rules, and we're likely not going to just remove entire rule sections - The stuff suggested will still be discussed by the mod team to be put into a vote, so make a good argument over a rule change that would benefit the subreddit.

As always, if you don't want to participate in this experiment, this thread is for talking about anything about /r/leagueoflegends - Not game meta discussion. Off topic stuff will be removed. Thanks!

League doesnt encourage players to reconnect.

i had some several issues with my internet lately. i dced from minute 3 to minutes 5 . i came back tried my hard dealt the most damage in the game with a perfect kda. as a result i got a defeat with a promotion loss. and a 5 matchs ban. i asked the support in twitter and here is their answer ''The reason you lost LP was that there was not promise you were going to come back.'' which means that the system will not detect whether you came back or not. so if you cross the 2 minutes leaving mark you will immediately get the leaverbuster to trigger.

Bwipo: “We’re not a team that has the intention of only getting out of Groups at Worlds. We will do everything to push ourselves and win Worlds. And sure, everyone can laugh at us if we fail.”

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 06:59 AM PDT

NA and EU at worlds. If this is your region, don't hide in shame. Start to believe right now!

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 08:17 AM PDT

The typical mindset of this sub towards worlds predictions is pretty clear. It's LCK>=LPL >> The Rest.

NA have been hit especially hard, since Top teams and especially TSM couldn't find the success NA teams wanted them to have.

But not only NA also EU is seen as a 0 chance region to ever claim the title again. Even when MSF nearly took down SKT it was just a sloppy performance from SKT and FNCs 0-4 miracle run ended 1-3 against RNG.

And here starts the misery. Not only do we have a bad history but also the mindset that shitting on NA or EU (while most reddit user are from this regions) is completely cool and fine bogs me a bit. Not only does no one really start to hype his team for worlds, no you will also get called delusional or talked down a lot if you even think that NA or EU teams could win a single game against LPL or LCK teams. While these comments are a bit justified, the competitive spirit gets lost in this environment.

Let's compare this to football (soccer) and the World cup. In nearly every country around the glob it's fine to believe in your team even if the chance is super low. Instead of seeing only the things that prevent them from winning it, they highlight the things that might allow them to succeed even against the odds. For example Portugal, always held up their star player Ronaldo. In the end they were able to win the football-EM and Ronaldo couldn't even play the whole final. Croatia (while only making it to the second place) would not even gotten in the semi finals if you would have listened to the analysts.

One thing in common for those teams was that fans believed in them and if you want to succeed you may start put faith in your team.

I don't mean you should start and say things like TL will crush worlds this year or Schalke04 will teach KT to rotate, but instead look at what things your team has going for it and highlight those good points. Don't let LPL, KT or RNG flairs talk you down just because they cheer for the Overcat.

Just to make the start, I think FNC has a chance to win worlds this year, since their coach Youngbuck made the team way stronger at closing out games, Hyli is the best Pyke in the West, Broxah is rock solid and Bwipo might sub into the botlane if his style is needed. They also have Caps the best western toplaner at the moment and even if reddit doesn't like him, Rekkles is the most consistent ADC in the EU.

TLDR: Just because the chance is slim you should not down talk your region. Instead focus on their strength and why they might win like other sports support their team/region.

Since the recent nerfs, Yorick has lost over 20% of his player-base while still dominating the low ELO brackets

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 10:48 PM PDT

Thanks to the nerfs, a few things resulted:

  1. Yorick's overall playrate fell from 4.8% to 3.9% in all elo ranges, and from 3.6% to 2.8% in platinum and above. He effectively lost over 21% of his player-base thanks to the nerfs, and a large amount of that resides in the high elo Yorick players. In elo ranges above diamond, he lost 30% of his player-base.
  2. Despite the above effects, Yorick is still the highest winrate top laner in both bronze and silver games, followed closely behind by Garen. Both of these champions were nerfed last patch to dethrone them from their position as overly strong champions in low elo. Here is the Lolalytics page showing he is top 2 winrates, often trading places with Garen daily.
  3. Yorick Jungle is effectively dead. A while ago I posted my Jungle Yorick guide to the subreddit, and thanks to the recent nerfs, it's pretty gone. Losing the damage on the Mist Walkers ruined any potential to be a play-maker at level 6-7 as well as throughout the entire early game.

Minor Changes:

  1. Yorick's winrate has fallen over 1% where it currently sits at 50.41% (Another OP.GG Source) in Platinum and above elo ranges. His winrate has also fallen 14 positions on OP.GG.

A large portion of High elo Yorick players have now either hung up their shovels and have quit playing Yorick for the time being or are not playing him as much anymore. It was hard enough to outperform your opponent bruiser in the top lane last patch, but after the nerfs, top yorick feels helpless throughout the laning phase.

It feels like he has had a complete identity change from being a minion necromancer that could look for opportunities to throw Mist Walkers at your opponent during the laning phase (levels 3-9) to get some sort of lane advantage, and now he is more like Nasus where you sit back and farm and wait for your opponent to misplay, get ganked or leave lane so you can finally pressure something.

The purpose of this post is to point out the loss of playerbase alongside his low elo winrates. If more nerfs occur, i'm concerned how many more players will give up playing Yorick.

I have removed an incorrect information source as pointed out by a commentor below, apologies for that.

Going to link the two previously discussed Yorick posts on this subreddit for those who haven't seen them, both include ideas and general thoughts of potential fixes.

[AMA] We are your EU LCS Summer Finals on-air team. Ask us anything!

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 06:49 AM PDT

Hello Everyone,

We've had an absolutely awesome EU LCS Season this year and are a few days away from the Summer Split Finals in Madrid. Once we know our champion, EU LCS wraps up with the Regional Qualifiers back in Berlin from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th September. Before we finish the season, the EU LCS caster team wanted to step back and reflect on how epic this year has been.

This past year, Post Game Lobby grew into an awesome end of day talk show focused on player guests. Ready Check was introduced in Summer with all the crazy, fun and analytical segments. The league itself was really competitive all year long with all 10 teams capable of making playoffs in Spring until the last day of regular season. This Summer many teams have risen and fallen but the playoffs Super Six kicked off our potentially most competitive and exciting playoffs ever, culminating this weekend in Madrid.

FNC defend their title against a new finalist in S04 on Sunday. Saturday features VIT and MSF for 3rd place with huge implications for Worlds. Once we find out EU's 1st and 2nd Worlds seed, the 3rd seed is decided in Regional Qualifiers. G2 and SPY are waiting in the RQ bracket to see which 2 teams from Madrid will join them and we can't wait to see which 3 teams represent EU in South Korea.

The caster rotation for finals is locked and I'm really excited to announce Drakos will be casting his first EU LCS final! Drakos kicked ass this year and earned this, his on air performance and off air prep have been stellar and I'm stoked to see him take this spot.

Saturday: VIT vs MSF

AD: Sjokz, Kold, Vedius

Caster desk: Quickshot, Deficio, Ender

Sunday: FNC vs S04

AD: Sjokz, Kold, Ender

Caster desk: Drakos, Deficio, Vedius

What have been some of your favourite EU LCS moments of the year so far? What's the best/worst addition to our broadcast? What Finals or RQ team / player do you wanna know something more about? What mystery do you want Medius and Vedius to solve? And do you have any questions for us? Ask away!

20:30cest The casters have wrapped up answering for now, there may be a few more questions we decide to answer but first its dinner time and solo queue time!

Why do we need to have honor and clash on our profile? It's dead space in the majority of cases.

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 07:40 AM PDT

  1. Honor badges can only be seen by yourself. (not even friends can see them)
  2. Hardly anyone has a clash banner right now.

Why are they even there?

And in the meantime Riot could bring back the feature, that all top 3 mastery champs are visible without hovering the mouse over the icon.

I spent 900 hours in Bronze V 0 LP AMA

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 09:28 AM PDT

Like the title said, I've spent (nearly) 900 hours in Bronze V 0 LP. I started playing League around Season 4 but didn't hit 30 till Season 5, and have been ranked Bronze every season, usually finishing Bronze V 0 LP with lower than average MMR. I've been known by my friends as the eternally cursed player so I thought y'all might find it funny/sad/interesting to see how one of the worst league players in history thinks and hear about the mystical place known as Bronze V 0 LP

Proof: https://wol.gg/stats/na/empyrian/ http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=emPyriaN

Suddenly, something just clicked in my head a couple days ago and for the first time ever I'm storming my way UP through the rankings.

A couple frequently asked:

Have you been on SaltyTeemo? Yes

Have you been coached? Yes, by players from every rank from Gold to Master. Nothing helped till I figured it out myself.

Are you toxic? I've never been issued a single warning, chat restriction, etc. in 900 hours and I'd say I'm not.

Who are your favorite pro players? It would have to be Sneaky or Bunny Fufuu, but I like the latter more. I honestly just really love C9, and I hope to go to one of their games someday. To be honest though, I immensely respect most challenger players.

Ask away! I wouldn't be surprised if this flops, but I wouldn't be surprised if this became a hot meme either. Just bored over lunch break.

players who reach enough mastery points on specific champion should unlock a special chroma for that specific champion

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 11:47 AM PDT

title, mastery level are very useless, they don't say anything about you except "oh look at me i've spend BE to get this xD" you can be mastery level 7 on a champion and still suck with him big time.

now the number of mastery points on a champion doesn't say you are good either but i does say you love that champion enough to get this far, but you don't get rewarded for dedication at all and nothing say i love this champion (MR 7 is a joke you can get it with 20k points or 1M points it will stay the same).

so my suggestion is to give these players who reach a specific amount of mp (say 200k give or take) without breaking riot's business model ($elling $kins for ca$h) the players should be able to unlock a special chroma for the base champion model, similar to paladins' or paragon's (rip) that you need to really play that champ a lot to get a free skin for him that say "i love this champion".

i understand that league is very different and i am not asking for free skin, just a cheap chroma that looks visually appealing.

Hey guys I made a code that changes a picture into k number of colours (I chose 10 for this) and Ahri looked especially great so here she is for you guys to appreciate! League splashes are my favourite to use because they are so vibrant and even with such few colours come out very good. Hope you enjoy the minimalism. edit: someone asked for GP too.

I really hope the current Nexus Blitz will stay until Riot finished the gamemode

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 06:48 AM PDT

Nexus Blitz is the most fun gamemode I've ever played and even if there are some bad things like those stupid Cait ult buffs and the Blitzcrank buffs I still think this gamemode is amazing and I hope that Riot will instead of taking it out entirely until it's finished just update what we have on live servers until we have the "finished product" as it's currently in alpha.
